21.(6分)The year 3700, Earth is far too hot for any human to call it home. On this planet at least, man is nothing more than a memory--if there is anything left to remember the "wise man". But what about our wisdom--will any of it survive us?
The conventional answer is no. Knowledge requires a knower, and there will be no knowing minds around then. But if information survives, perhaps in books or hard drives, maybe the knowledge isn't quite dead but dormant(休眠),
ready to become alive with the help of other minds that develop over time or come to visit Earth in the distant future.
At first sight, that seems to be reasonable: after all, we have done similar things with past knowledge. For example, we saved an ancient computer from a ship destroyed at sea off the southern coast of Greece, and succeeded in finding the meaning of Egyptian hieroglyphics(象形文字). Careful work can bring previously lost wisdom back to life.
However, the key point is that there is a certain cultural continuity with those ancient times that allows us to reason and make progress in the dark: we know we are dealing with the legacy(遗产)of other humans. Without that link, the survival of objects and raw data doesn't guarantee the survival of knowledge. And a lack of continuity in language with any future intelligence would be a barrier. Knowledge is closely connected with language. When a language dies out, we can lose systems of reasoning that they contain. If that's lost, then it can't be recovered.
All this means that other minds might not be able to fully make human knowledge alive when we are gone. It is better to concentrate on not dying out in the first place.

(8分)If it were up to me, I’d write this piece next week or even la ter. Let the dust settle a bit. But I have my father’s insistent voice in my head: the story is now, so you write it now. No one wants to read last week’s news.
My father Michael was a journalist. He started at age 16 on his local paper, the Luton News, and after nine years there, he went on to a six-decade career that saw him write more than 40 biographies of Hollywood stars and spend a quarter-century presenting a weekly radio show.
From him I learned about deadlines and accuracy, and absorbed his rule about professional clothing, one he had been taught by his first boss. Even when he was working at home, my father would follow that rule: shirt and tie, every day.
There were other less obvious lessons. The first is about being manly. Driven and competitive, he wasn’t present for the birth of any of his three children, but he was the very model of being loving and faithful. My father never took me to the football or taught me to change a tyre. In a pub, he might manage some drinks, but his main focus would usually be the food menu. He was a model of a different kind of maleness.
But perhaps the biggest lesson I learned from him was about resilience (恢复). He got deep blows, losing both his wife and firstborn child, my sister Fiona, within two years of each other. And yet, somehow, he got back up again. He taught himself to cook and continued to dress neatly, picking out a bright jacket that ensured he stood out in a room. He would meet editors and write stories with the same hunger he had 65 years earlier. Younger colleagues keep using the same word about him: appealing.
I hope I learned his resilience, the way I learned about being a journalist. People keep telling me that my father was proud of me; and the truth is I was proud of him. Raised in a hard-up corner of wartime England, he went off to see the world—and he never stopped looking forward and upward, staring at the stars.

B.He sometimes had a hard time meeting the work deadline.
C.He trained the author to be manly and do the basic things.
D.He was competitive at work and remained a loving Dad.
3、What was the best lesson the author learned from his father?
A.The necessity of keeping good shape.
B.Quick recovery from suffering or blow.
C.The ability to get a content career.
D.The pride one takes in his/her parents.
4、What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Dad Left a Deep Impression on Me for His Work

23.(8分)It has been seen as a hi-tech bike-sharing boom that entrepreneurs hope will make them rich while transforming China's traffic-jammed cities.
But, occasionally, dreams can turn less pleasant. In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, more than 500 bicycles for hire have been found dumped in huge piles on the streets, according to reports. Pictures showed vehicles nearly three metres high, with small parts on the ground. City streets around the country have seen an explosion of the colourful bikes that users can rent on demand with a smartphone app and then park wherever they choose.
The sharing economy is taking off in China, where ride-sharing and Airbnb are increasingly commonplace. From Shanghai to Sichuan province, bike-sharing are being started in an effort to reduce traffic jam and air pollution by putting a country once known as the “Kingdom of Bicycles” back on two wheels.
Companies such as Ofo and Mobike, with their yellow and orange bikes, have been in a cut-throat battle for customers. But problems have arisen when clients have abandoned their cycles. “Some people these days just have really bad character,’’ a man named He,who lives near where the piles appeared, told the Southern Metropolis Daily. When they're done using (the bike) they just throw it away somewhere, because they've already paid. Residents told the paper that hikes had been piling up over the past week, either parked random by careless users or piled by local security guards trying to clear narrow residential alleys and footpaths.
Zhuang Chuangyu, a representative at Shenzhen's municipal people s congress, said the city needed to step up regulation of the bike-sharing industry in order to improve conditions and safety standards, especially since schoolchildren often used the bikes.
In 1980, almost 63% of commuters cycled to work, the Beijing Morning Post reported in 2015, citing government data. But by 2000 that number had decreased to 38% and today it stands at less than 12%. Car use, meanwhile, has rocketed. In 2010 China overtook the US to become the worlds largest car market, with 13.5 m vehicles sold in just 12 months.

A.Ofo and Mobike are yellow and orange bikes.
B.Ofo and Mobike have really bad character.
C.Ofo and Mobike cause the clients to abandon their cycles.
D.Ofo and Mobike are in competition with each other.
4、Which of the following may the author agree with?

25.(10分)Are you a problem shopper? The answer is “Yes”, if you or someone else thinks that you sometimes get carried away with shopping. In other words, do you or does someone else think you are occupied in extreme shopping? If people have regrets later about their shopping, or have an “out-of-control” feeling about the quantities of what they buy or the amount of credit they use, they may be considered to be problem shoppers.
Extreme shopping can lead to a more serious problem — addictive shopping. Addictive shoppers feel driven by the desire to shop and spend money. They experience great tension which drives them to shop and spend money and they
feel a “rush” during the time they are occupied with the shopping activity.
Extreme or addictive shopping may result from long-time unpleasant feelings, of which anxiety, pain and shame are common ones. When we feel bad inside, we often do something to make ourselves feel better. In this case, we often go shopping.
A few people shop to relieve their boredom or emptiness. For some people, the motivation is a desire for status, power, beauty or success. Some love to shop as it makes them feel valued in the eyes of the shop assistants. Others shop simply because it makes them forget, at least temporarily, tension, fear or unhappiness in their life.
Besides, shopping malls are designed to encourage continual shopping. For instance, there are some malls where you can’t see clocks displaying the time because they don’t want you to become too aware of the time you spend there. What’s more, food courts, coffee shops and restrooms are provided, so you don’t have to leave the mall because of your physical needs.
Therefore, once you become aware of how market forces work, you will certainly come to control your shopping behavior. For example, how much time you will spend and what areas you will visit can be decided before you enter the mall. Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. Make a plan for what you are going to buy before you feel the urge to shop and then stick to it. That is vital for gaining self-control.
1、Which of the following people may not be problem shoppers?
A.Those who cannot control the amount of credit they use.
B.Those who just walk around the shopping malls.
C.Those who are occupied in too much shopping.
D.Those who feel sorry for their shopping.
2、According to the passage, what may not result in addictive shopping?
A.The awareness of how market forces work.
B.The desire for status, power, beauty or success.
C.Boredom, emptiness, tension, fear or unhappiness in people’s lif e.
D.Long-time bad feelings of anxiety, pain and shame.
3、What does the author suggest to control our shopping behaviour?
A.Never going to the shopping malls because there are many tricks.
B.Applying for a credit card before we go shopping.
C.Making the shopping time as short as possible.
D.Making a shopping list before we go shopping.
4、The author writes this passage to _______.
A.inform the shopping malls how to attract more shoppers
B.scold the problem shoppers
C.provide solutions to the problem shopping
D.tell a shopping story
