MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Somewhere in my heart, I always find a desire to help others. One that stands out the most is to donate a little money to the beggars. When I go through Guangzhou, I see homeless people on the street and I give money to them. I don’t know what my limited money can do for them. But as a citizen, I think everyone has the obligation to help others. As a citizen, we can not just think of ourselves only, we have to care for other people. Although we are students and spend parents’ money, we can still make a difference.
First of all, we should get ready to help others. Everyday we start with freshness and hope. Compared to the suffered people, how lucky we are! We should be thankful. In the world, so many people who are in big trouble and crying for help are neglected, ignored or even rejected. As citizens, as long as we can help, we should get ready all the time. Only through mutual-help, can people get through difficulties. Besides, to help others is to help ourselves. Those who is much given, much more is expected. Moreover, life is so unpredictable, on one knows what will happen tomorrow. Who can tell next victims , maybe we are!
It is very important for us to keep in mind that the giver and the receiver is equal. While we offer help to the needy, we should also accord our respect to them. I remember one night about 7o’clock, I talked to a beggar near me while I was waiting the bus. Although he was working at the daytime, he had to beg at night. Because of the lower education, the pay was so l ow that he couldn’t make ends meet. He told me he would try every means to live on his own because he couldn’t stand the indifference from the audience. People didn’t respect them at all. However, can people argue that it is a personal choice if a person becomes homeless? In fact, many people become homeless through no fault to them. We can’t just think about homeless people as “bums on the street” because they are not and they are people too. No matter who the receivers are, we should always respect them.
Last but not least, if some people ask for our help, we should be patient. Nowadays, many people believe that Time is Money. They are so practical that they think it wastes their valuable time to listen to others, let alone listen to others patiently. I know even I do it sometimes, but it is wrong and I am making a stand. It is very hard for us to feel the same, especially when we don’t know what exactly the situation is. We can’t do something or think something else when we are listening to others. Otherwise we have nothing to offer if they ask for advice. Even worse, we are not respecting them. In other words, we should listen to them carefully and patiently, put ourselves in their shoes.
Ladies and gentlemen, life does not require all of us make a great contribution to the society. But there are just a few simple things we can do to help make a big difference. If there are something you can help, just go ahead. Your money or your love maybe changes a person’s life.
If someone comes to you for help, ple ase don’t forget your respect.
If someone speaks to you, please be focused; listen to him or her patiently.。
