Objective:
➢To improve students' prehension and usage of plex sentence structures, particularly those expressing contrast (e.g., "although,"
"however").
➢To enhance speaking and listening skills through discussions and roleplays about independence and selfcare.
➢To encourage critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
Materials Needed:
✓Textbook: Foreign Research Series, Grade 9, Module 4, Unit 1.
✓Interactive whiteboard or projector.
✓Handouts with additional exercises and roleplay scenarios.
✓Audio/visual equipment for listening exercises.
Lesson Duration: 45 Minutes
Lesson Plan:
Introduction
(1)Begin with a discussion prompt: “What does it mean to look after
yourself? Is it easy or hard? Why?”
(2)Introduce the theme of the unit: selfcare and independence, with a
focus on language structures for expressing contrast and difficulty.
WarmUp Activity
Play a quick game: “Two Truths and a Lie,”focusing on selfcare habits.
This will engage students and set a personal context for the lesson.
Reading and prehension
1)Have students read the main text in the textbook individually.
2)Conduct a class discussion on the text, asking questions to ensure
understanding and to elicit students’personal connections to the theme.
Grammar Focus
(1)Explicitly teach the use of contrasting conjunctions like "although,"
"however," "but," etc.
(2)Provide examples from the text and have students create their own
sentences using these conjunctions.
Listening Exercise
1)Play an audio clip related to the theme (if available in the textbook
resources).
2)Conduct a listening prehension exercise with questions about the
main ideas and details.
RolePlay Activity
(1)Prepare roleplay scenarios where students must use contrasting
conjunctions. Scenarios might include planning a day where everything goes wrong, but they manage to look after themselves.
(2)Students practice the roleplays in pairs or small groups.
Group Discussion
1)Facilitate a discussion on challenges teenagers face in being more
independent.
2)Encourage students to use the target language structures during the
discussion.
Homework Assignment
❖Assign a reflective essay: “Describe a situation where you had to look after yourself. Was it easy or difficult? Use contrasting conjunctions in your writing.”
Closure
(1)Recap the key points of the lesson.
(2)Briefly introduce the next unit or topic to be covered. Assessment:
✧Participation in discussions and activities.
✧Accuracy and creativity in roleplay scenarios.
✧The quality of grammar usage in the homework essay.。
