去城市公园捡垃圾的经历英语作文
My Fun Day Cleaning Up the Park
Last Saturday was such an awesome day! I got to go with my mom and my class to help clean up Brookside Park. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to go. Picking up litter didn't sound like much fun. But boy was I wrong! It turned out to be one of the coolest days ever.
We all met at the park bright and early at 9am. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful spring day - perfect weather for being outside. My best friend Jake was there too which made it even better.
First, the park ranger named Ms. Jenkins gathered us all together. She talked about why it's so important to keep our parks and public spaces clean. Litter is really bad for nature, she said. It can hurt plants and animals that accidentally eat it or get tangled up in it. Gross!
Ms. Jenkins also told us that litter makes parks look really ugly and messy. Instead of being pretty green spaces for people to enjoy, they turn into wastelands full of trash. No one wants to hang out in a dump! I didn't realize how big of a problem litter was before she explained it.
After her talk, Ms. Jenkins split us all up into teams. Jake and I were on the Red Hawk team. We were pretty excited because red is both of our favorite colors. Ms. Jenkins gave each team a bright neon vest to wear so we would be visible, a grabbing tool to pick up litter, and a big heavy duty trash bag to collect everything.
"Okay team, let's go get that litter!" yelled our team leader who was one of the moms. We all cheered and headed off to get started. Our team decided to start near the playground since that's where kids always seem to drop lots of stuff.
Jake and I had so much fun using the grabbing tool. We turned it into a game to see who could pick up the most pieces of litter the fastest. Every time one of us grabbed something cool or gross we would shout out "Got one!" I think I definitely won overall, but Jake kept trying to cheat by quickly scooping up handfuls of stuff.
We found all kinds of crazy things just lying around the playground - candy wrappers, drink bottles, plastic utensils, even a dirty diaper! That one was definitely the most disgusting thing we picked up all day. We had to use extra gloves and quickly tied up the bag after that one.
As we worked our way around the park, I was amazed by how much litter there was literally everywhere we looked. Under bushes, in ditches, tucked in corners - it seemed to never end! Our bags got heavier and heavier as we filled them up.
Around lunchtime, all the teams took a break and met back at the picnic area. We tallied up how much we had all collected so far. Ms. Jenkins said the total was already over 500 pounds of trash! I couldn't believe that was just from the morning. She seemed really proud of us for working so hard.
My mom had packed us a yummy lunch with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples, potato chips, and chocolate chip cookies. We all ate together and talked about some of the wacky pieces of litter we had found. Jake's team got an old rainboot, and one group even found a tire!
After lunch, I was feeling re-energized to collect even more litter. Ms. Jenkins told us we were going to spread out and clean up different areas of the park for the rest of the day. My team headed towards the pond area where people feed the ducks.
It was really pretty over there with the water and all the willow trees. But there was a ton of litter too, which wasn't so pretty. We picked up handfuls of breadcrusts and crackers
people had left behind after feeding the ducks. We also found a million duck poopy landmines to avoid stepping in!
By late afternoon, our trash bags were totally stuffed. We could hardly carry them, they were so heavy and full. We felt like real life garbage truck workers lugging those things around. It was hard work, but also kind of fun in a weird way.
Finally around 4pm, Ms. Jenkins blew her whistle to let us know it was time to wrap things up. All the teams hauled their bags to the dumpster area and we did one final litter check to make sure we got everything.
At the end, the park looked amazing! It was wild seeing how different it looked once all the litter and trash was gone. The grass looked greener, the trees and flowers prettier, and the whole place just seemed happier. I felt really proud that our hard work had basically given the park a giant cleaning makeover.
Back at the picnic area, Ms. Jenkins high-fived all of us and thanked us for our amazing efforts. She held up a big sign that showed we had collected a grand total of 1,275 pounds of litter! We all cheered and cheered. That was an insane amount!
As a special treat, Ms. Jenkins had litter-shaped cookies for all of us. I thought that was pretty clever and fun. While we ate
our "litter cookies", she went around and gave each kid a pin that said "Park Protector" on it. The pin made me feel like an official member of some cool litter-fighting superhero club.
On the way home in the car, I just stared out the window at Brookside Park feeling so accomplished. I couldn't wait to go back and actually play there sometime without having to worry about sitting or stepping on trash. Thanks to us, it was finally the clean, litter-free park it deserved to be.
I also couldn't wait to tell my dad and brother all about our amazing litter clean-up day when we got home. I'm definitely going to ask if we can make cleaning up parks and outdoor spaces a regular family tradition. Picking up litter is such an easy way to take care of nature and keep our community looking beautiful. And who knows, maybe next time we'll find even crazier pieces of litter! I can't wait to see what kind of weird treasures we'll dig up.。
