专题检测卷(二十九)任务型阅读(建议用时: 30分钟)1(2013·姜堰模拟) Students typically speak of their experiences abroad as “life-changing”and count their international experience as one of the most rewarding features of their college careers. They not only advance themselves academically, but also acquire a mature view of our complex world. The benefits of studying abroad are many. Here are a few:Special academic opportunities. For all students, but especially for those with an interest in area studies, attending a university abroad opens up a lot of academic options: courses not offered at Princeton, access to research materials, and contact with foreign scholars and researchers in particular fields of interest. Foreign environments can also provide a kind of living laboratory for original research that can only be conducted on-site.Foreign language competency. The best way to become fluent in a foreign language is to go to a country where the language is spoken. The ability to read and talk in a foreign language benefits the scholarly work ofall students and is a skill that is increasingly valued in all professions.Preparation for careers with an international dimension. Today’s workplace is increasingly global and requires knowledge and experience that transcends(超出)national boundaries. Students who have studied abroad can prove to possible employers that they can handle themselves in new situations and have experience interacting with people from other backgrounds. Students may also develop professional relationships that continue long after the study abroad experience is over.Cross-cultural competence and understanding.Spending time abroad allows you to test your abilities to cope with the challenges of living in another culture as a participant rather than a tourist. Living in another culture exposes you to different views about world events and your own country—deepening your understanding of your own culture, yourself, and the world.Improve decision-making and problem-solving skills. Students studying abroad find themselves in new situations all the time. When students convey their needs and thoughts using new language skills, they gain confidence. These skills are helpful in other aspects of life, both personal and professional.Test your interests. While studying abroad, especially on a field-based program, students can often take their interests on a more specific, applied direction. For example, they can try field research andinteract with professionals working in fields of interest to them.Make new contacts. Students form a large network of people while studying abroad. Some students may call upon their in-country professional contacts soon after the program’s conclusion; others stay in tou ch with homestay families for decades; still others form lifelong friendships with their peers(同龄人). These relationships can be deeply expanding.2(2013·扬州模拟) By the logic(逻辑)of geography, the continent of Australia should have been populated with Asians. Instead, by an accident of history, Australia has been mainly populated with Westerners.Sadly, no major Australian newspaper or expert commented. This made me aware that Australians are reluctant to face Australia’s painful new geopolitical realities.Against this background, the release of the Asian Century White Paper is timely. It should provide a sharp wake-up call to the Australianpopulation that Australia’s destiny(命运)is now firmly tied to Asia. Julia Gillard is right in saying, “The transformation of the Asian region into the economic powerhouse of the world is not only unstoppable, it is gathering pace. ”One truly impressive part of the paper is the data it provides on Asia’s rise. It notes, for example, that “in the past 20 years, China and India have almost tripled(增三倍)their share of the global economy and increased their economic size almost six times over. By 2025, the region as a whole will account for almost half the world’s output. ”In this Asian century, as Western power gets weak steadily, Australia will be left “beached” alone as the only Western country(together with New Zealand)in Asia. Twenty-two million Australians will have to learn to deal with 3. 5 billion Asians with great care and sensitivity.Ignorance(无知)about Asia could prove to be fatal(致命的)for Australia’s long-term future. This is why the report is right in focusing on Australian misunderstanding of Asia.Sadly, this kind of terrible ignorance may be a result of Australian education. The report says, “Only a small proportion of Year 12 students study anything about Asia in the subjects of history, literature, geography, economics, politics and the arts under existing state-based curriculums. ”Worse, only 5 percent of each Australian groups study any kind of Asian language.Learning Asian languages would open windows to Asian cultural and political sensitivities. The time for Australians to think deeply about their Asian destiny has arrived. The sooner Australia adjusts to its new Asian destiny, the less painful the adjustment will prove to be.3(2013·盐城模拟) In the United States, engineering is a profession that has been dominated historically by men. Even t oday, it’s still true that few women become civil or chemical or mechanical engineers, but that’s something Engineer Girl aims to change. Young women who visit the website can find out about a great career choices they might not have considered.“Women ar e very much underrepresented in engineering and in engineering education programs and then of course, down the road, in the engineering workforce. So only about 20 percent of engineering undergraduate degrees go to women, and then only about nine percent of working engineers are women. ”Mary Mattis in the National Academy of Engineering, says the Engineer Girl website aims to reach young women around ages 11 through 14, when they are just getting old enough to start thinking about their futures.“We know from the research that middle-school girls are at a critical point in their lives, and that it’s a time when we need to reach them, both with an understanding, increasing their awareness of interesting fields in engineering, what a wonderful productive and exciting career you can haveas an engineer. But we also need to reach them at that time because you have to take certain courses, and you can’t start thinking about taking those courses when you’re a junior in high school. ”Engineering is a demanding course of study—there is a lot of science and mathematics, for many girls and even boys, that can be challenging. But Ms. Mattis says that the Engineer Girl website stresses that engineering can also be fun and exciting.“It’s about designing things. It’s a bout changing the world for people. It’s about making a difference. And, in addition, you can make a good living; you can be independent economically by becoming an engineer. All of those things are messages that girls need to get. ”While most engineers go into traditional fields such as mechanical and electrical engineering, the Engineer Girl site also highlights unusual engineering careers in fields such as sports engineering and—believe it or not—chocolate engineering.“There’s a section called‘why be an engineer’, and that talks about the many opportunities and increasingly different opportunities like with bio-engineering and environmental engineering, some fields that might appeal to girls who want to make a difference or have a meaning for their ca reers beyond earning an income. ”Even if you are not a girl in the target age group, there’s a lot of interesting information on the site, including biographies of some notablewomen engineers.答案解析11. 【解析】change。

Have you ever wondered: What drives successful people? Take a look around and talk to your friends and seniors who are very successful, you will see all of them have adopted certain values which have proved vital for their success. It is evident that successful people take initiative(主动性). When they find something needs to be done, they just do it instead of waiting. They believe that responsibility is taken, not given. They weigh immediately what has to be done and then do it with pleasure, thus strengthening their reputation.Successful people are enthusiastic about the things they do, especially when they believe in what they are doing. They are motivated by their own satisfaction and the joy they get from doing their work. They work hardeven when no one is watching and they throw themselves into their work. They do not fear failure. Failures and disappointments in life are unavoidable. It is failure that teaches us much more than success. Successful people pick themselves up after a fall and try again with more determination and commitment and learn from each failure. They associate with those they can learn from and enjoy the company of those who appreciate their achievement.Having good IQ often gets a person what he wants but it’s really the EQ that keeps him there and helps him enjoy a high reputation. Successful people are polite to everyone and treat others with respect. By giving respect to others, they command respect for themselves.Another important quality of successful persons is that they never complain. It’s better to praise others and win favor with them. So instead of complaining about a situation, successful people always try to solve it.To put it shortly, take initiative and be enthusiastic about them. Do not be afraid to fail, but get up and start again. When you do so, success will be just around the corner.2(2013·合肥模拟) 阅读下面短文, 根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。

century urban culture.57.What is unique of SieMatic BeauxArts C?A.Its designs are anti﹣conventional.B.Its designs come from famous structures.C.Its customers can enjoy their own composition.D.Its 推理判断题.根据第三段最后一句"you too can break the conventional rules of style and create something new:your own personal composition of your kitchen. For that,SieMatic BeauxArts offers unique opportunities:A broad range of seemingly conflicting features that you combine to a harmonious design of your own."可知,你也可以打破传统的风格规则,创造一些新的东西,按自己的喜好进行装饰布置,所以SieMatic BeauxArts让顾客有机会显示自己的构思,从而可以分享到自己的成果.故选C.【点评】本文是政治经济类阅读,主要考查学生对细节的理解能力,做题时一定要找到文章中的原句,和题干进行比较,再做出正确选择.28.(6分)However wealthy we may be,we can never find enough hours in the day to do everything we want.Economics deals with this problem through the concept of opportunity cost, which simply refers to whether someone's time or money could be better spent on something else.Every hour of our time has a value. For every hour we work at one job we could quite easily be doing another,or be sleeping or watching a film. Each of these options has a differentopportunity cost﹣namely, what they cost us in missed opportunities.Say you intend to watch a football match but the tickets are expensive and it will take you a couple of hours to get to and from the stadium. Why not,you might reason, watch the game from home and use the leftover money and time to have dinner with friends? This﹣the alternative use of your cash and time﹣is the opportunity cost. For economists, every decision is made by knowledge of what one must forgo﹣in terms of money and enjoyment﹣in order to take it up.By knowing precisely what you are receiving and what you are missing out on,you ought to be able to make better﹣informed, more reasonable decisions.Consider that most famous economic rule of all:there's no such thing as a free lunch.Even if someone offers to take you out to lunch for free, the time you will spend in the restaurant still costs you something in terms of forgone opportunities. Some people find the idea of opportunity cost extremely discouraging:imagine spending your entire life calculating whether your time would be better spent elsewhere doing something more profitable or enjoyable.Yet,in a sense it's human nature to do precisely that﹣we assess the advantages and disadvantages of decisions all the time.In the business world,a popular phrase is"value for money."People want their cash to go as far as possible. However, another is fast obtaining an advantage:"value for time."The biggest restriction on our resources is the number of hours we can devote to something,so we look to maximize the return we get on our investment of time.By reading this passage you are giving over a bit of your time which could be spent doing other activities, such as sleeping and eating. In return, however, this passage will help you to think like an economist, closely considering the opportunity cost of each of your decisions.58.According to the passage, the concept of"opportunity cost"is applied to D.A.making more moneyB.taking more opportunitiesC.reducing missed opportunitiesD.weighing the choice of opportunities59.The"leftover…time"in Paragraph 3probably refers to the time C.A.spared for watching the match at homeB.taken to have dinner with friendsC.spent on the way to and from the matchD.saved from not going to watch the match60.What are forgone opportunities B?A.Opportunities you forget in decision﹣making.B.Opportunities you give up for better ones.C.Opportunities you miss accidentally.D.Opportunities you make up for.【考点】O7:政治经济类阅读.【分析】本文是一篇议论文. Economics deals with this problem through the concept of opportunity cost, which simply refers to whether someone's time or money could be better spent on something else".和第三段的"This﹣the alternative use of your cash and time ﹣is the opportunity cost"可知,opportunity cost(机会成本)是指人们考虑自己的时间和金钱是否可以更好地被利用在其他的事情上,也就是在衡量自己的选择是否合理.所以这个概念应用于衡量机会的选择方面,故选D.59.C 词义推测题.根据第三段的"Say…but the tickets are expensive and it will take you a couple of hours to get to and from the stadium…use the leftover money and time to have dinner with friends?"可知,人们本来是想去看球赛,但是球赛的票太贵了.所以就把本来准备看球赛的金钱和时间用在了别的地方,所以leftover …time所指的是"花在观看比赛(路上)来去的时间".故选C.60.B 推理判断题.根据第四段的"Even if someone offers to take you out to lunch for free, the time you will spend in the restaurant still costs you something in terms of forgone opportunities." 在做推理判断题时不要以个人的主观想象代替文章的事实,要根据文章事实进行合乎逻辑的推理判断.29.(8分)Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behaviour. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger. Not everyone experiences anger in the same way;what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels (决斗)as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behaviour on the part of another.Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes.Under most conditions EEG (脑电图)measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal (额叶前部)areas.Behaviourally this corresponds to the general even ﹣handed disposition (意向)that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and,as a result of this,we're likely to react. And our behavioural response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative. Most positive emotions are associated with approach behaviour:we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions,in contrast, are associated with avoidance behaviour:we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are,the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as of ensive anger:the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approach﹣and﹣confront behaviour is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry (不对称)of EEG activity.Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy (同感)towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensive anger,in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the anger﹣inspiring situation.61.The"duels"example in Paragraph 2proves that the expression of anger C.A.usually has a biological basisB.varies among peopleC.is socially and culturally shapedD.influences one's thinking and evaluation62.What changes can be found in an angry brain B?A.Balanced electrical activity can be spotted.B.Unbalanced patterns are found in prefrontal areas.C.Electrical activity corresponds to one's behaviour.D.Electrical activity agrees with one's disposition.63.Which of the following is typical of offensive anger A?A.Approaching the source of anger.B.Trying to control what is disliked.C.Moving away from what is disliked.D.Feeling helpless in the face of anger.64.What is the key message of the last paragraph D?A.How anger differs from other emotions.B.How anger relates to other emotions.C.Behavioural responses to anger.D.Behavioural patterns of anger.【考点】O5:科教类阅读.【分析】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了一些与愤怒有关的表现以及医学原理和人们生气的时候表现出的行为模式.【解答】61.C 推理判断题.根据文章第二段"In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated." But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced"可知,当我们生气的时候,脑电图在额叶前部会出现不平衡的现象.故B正确.63.A 细节理解题.根据文章第四段3,4,5行"The angrier we are.the more likely we。

高考专题辅导江苏省2014版高考英语专题检测卷(三十)任务型阅读
任务型阅读(建议用时: 20分钟)1(2013·徐州模拟)Simply increasing physical activity levels alone is unlikely to reduce body weight in young children, and therefore will probably not prevent obesity(肥胖), although it may set the stage for a healthier lifestyle, the results of a study conducted in Scotland suggest.Instead, a combination of increased physical activity and other lifestyle changes like sticking to a healthy diet may be needed to stop the trend of obesity.“Many children are obese, even at preschool age, ”Dr John J. Reilly from the University of Glasgow and his colleagues note in the British Medical Journal. Considering the general lack of evidence on proper ways to prevent obesity in this age group, Reilly’s team had 545 children from 36 nursery schools in the “Movement and Activity Glasgow Intervention(干预)in Children”or MAGIC trial. The trial was specifically designed to see if an increase in activity could reduce body mass index(身体质量指数). Each week for 24 weeks roughly half of the preschoolers, who were an average of 4. 2 years old, participated in three 30-minute active workouts while at nursery school and their parents were encouraged to increase the child’s activity levels at home. The other half of the children, serving as contrasts, followed their usual nursery school schedule.According to the researchers, the physical activity intervention had no significant effect on body mass index of the children. However, compared with contrast children, intervention children show greater gains in body movement skills, which, the researchers say, may increase confidence in physical ability, perhaps increasing the opportunities of future participation in physical activity or sports. In a word, Reilly and his colleagues suggest that “successful interventions to preve nt obesity in early childhood may require changes not just at nursery school, and home, but in the wider environment. Changes in other behaviors, including diet, may also be necessary. ”2(2013·南通模拟)Could you believe that the ideal person is never the best at anything? Our heads are so full of ambitions about wealth and power that we spin our wheels until we burn ourselves out and are left hopeless and exhausted. There is great pressure to attain the highest level of achievement. By satisfying our vanity(虚荣)we do ourselves more harm than good. The only way to achieve sustainable happiness is to practice the Golden Mean(中庸之道).The idea of the Golden Mean has existed for thousands of years. It is at the centre of both Eastern and Western philosophy and has more influence than the teachings of Aristotle and Confucius. The idea is simple. Every quality has extremes at both ends. The Golden Mean is the natural balance between these extremes. At this harmonious point goodness and beauty are achieved.Socrates used the example of extreme devotion to athletics versus(与……相比)extreme devotion to music to illustrate this idea. The athlete becomes overly aggressive and cruel, while the musician becomes overly soft and womanish. The ideal is someone who practices both athletics and music and acquires a harmonious mixture of both qualities.Consider an example from modern times that I’m sure everyone has observed. The first person is extremely career driven. Each day he focuses on advancing himself. He spends long hours atthe office, competes mercilessly with his coworkers, and flatters his superiors. As a result he has almost no personal life. The second person’s only pursuit is leisure. He likes to waste time with his friends watching television and playing video games.Which of these persons is superior? Many people would argue for the hard worker. But at second glance his life is rather cold. His obsession(痴迷)with success has conflicted with his coworkers and left him without a family. He may become rich, but how will he enjoy it? The second man is no better. He has wasted his life in laziness. He has refused to develop himself and exists as a lazybones. Both men are worthy of pity.I think we’d all agree the ideal would be somewhere in between these two pe ople. So how do we find the abstract Golden Mean?It all starts with setting the right goals. Whenever you make a goal you need to do it with the right intention. Don’t set goals with the intention to command other people. Instead, try to start with a goal that is in between total selfishness and total selflessness. The next step to reaching the Golden Mean is knowing your limits. You need to know when one more project is going to stress you out. The idea is to maintain balance at all times.Another step to achieving the Golden Mean is being aware of your personal needs. Sure we need money and success, but having good relationships with friends and family is just as important.I know the Golden Mean is hard to live by, but it is the key to finding your inner confidence. Ben Franklin said, “The wise keep learning from the mistakes of others, fools, scarcely from their own. ”Next time you find yourself willing to do anything to be the best of the best, take a moment to reconsider. You may find it is better to be the best “you” you can be.答案解析11. 【解析】prevent。

江苏省2014届高三英语(牛津版)一轮复习攻略训练:任务型阅读(7)
第四部分任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)Made In The USA: An Export BoomIn his State of the Union address two years ago, President Obama argued that in order to recover from the economic recession, one of the few things the U.S. needed to do was to export more goods around the world. That night, the president unveiled a new goal: to double U.S. exports over the next five years. It would be an increase that the president said would “support two million jobs in America.”Most economists dismissed the promise at the time as something unrealistic, but two years later, the U.S. is on pace to meet that goal. American exports are up 34 percent since the president gave that speech, and the number continues to rise.Competitive In A Global MarketMarlin Steel, a metal working business in Baltimore, makes parts that ship all across the world.“We export to 36 countries,” owner Drew Greenblatt tells All Things Considered Host Guy Raz.“We're working around the clock, and we're growing.”It's not just advanced manufacturing exports on the rise, but pork, cattle and all kinds of agricultural exports are up as well. Even American craft beer has found an export market.Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso says that increasingly, people all over the world are trying the beer from the Maryland-based brewery. Caruso says,“Even in those top beer-producing countries, a competitive American product is finding a market.”Services Are Exports, TooAnother place exports are coming from is New York City—in particular, the 30th floor of a Manhattan skyscraper on 5th Avenue and 52nd Street. That's where the consulting firm Kurt Solomon lies. It doesn't actually produce a product for export; it provides management advice and strategy.“Four out of every five Americans is now employed in the service industry,” the nation's top trade official,Ron Kirk says, “Services are a significant part of our exports, and make up about a quarter of our exported goods.” These services can include everything from legal consulting, finance, information technology and even engineering. And There Are Other FactorsSo why has there been an increase of more than 30 percent for exports in almost everything? Part of the increase, at least for the manufacturing side, is due to better technology, says Tyler Cowen, an economist.“A lot of it is being driven by smart machines,” he tells Raz,“The U.S. has high wage rates, which is a disadvantage, but if machines are doing a lot of the work, that doesn't matter.”China factors a lot in America's export economy, too.“Wages in China have been going up as the c ountry becomes more productive. Thus China is losing the cheap labor advantage it has held for some time.” Cowen says. Will Jobs Grow, too?“Companies have become more productive by dismissing workers and lowering costs.”Cowen says.“So I don't view exporti ng as a way of creating a very large number of jobs, but it will create more profits.”So not every business or worker is necessarily benefiting from the export boom in the U.S., and Cowen says that could ultimately lead to a polarization(两极) of economic outcomes.Made In the USA: An Export BoomOutline DetailsThe purpose of increasing exports *To help America make a (71)______ from the economic recession *To help raise the nation's (72)______ rateThe current situation *American exports have risen (73)______ thirty-four percent up to now*There has been an increase in exports in everything*The export boom does not necessarily (74)______ every business or worker(75)______ (76)______Even in those top beer-producing countries, people try craftcontributing to the export boom products beer from Flying Dog, a brewery (77)______ in Maryland VariousproductsA variety of products are provided around the world,services(78)______ for 25%Lowercosts*(79)______ take the place of labor, helping companies reducewages*China, who used to take (80)______ of cheap labor, has givenway to America in exports to some extent because of itsincreasing production任务型阅读71. recovery72. employment73. by74. benefit75. Naturally regulate your sleep-wake cycleMelatonin(褪黑激素)is a naturally occurring hormone(激素)that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle.Melatonin production is controlled by light exposure.Your brain should produce more in the evening, when it's dark, to make you sleepy, and less during the day when it's light and you want to stay awake. However, many aspects of modern life can disturb your body's natural production of melatonin and your sleep-wake cycle.Spending long days in an office away from natural light, for example, can impact your daytime wakefulness and make your brain sleepy. Then bright lights at night—especially from hours spent in front of the TV or computer screen—can hold back your body's production of melatonin and make it harder to sleep, However, there are ways for you to naturally regulate your sleep-wake cycle, improve your body's production of melatonin, and keep your brain on a healthy schedule.Increase light exposure during the day☆Remove your sunglasses in the morning and let light onto your face.☆Spend more time outside during daylight.Try to take your work breaks outside in sun light, exercise outside, or walk your dog during the day instead of at night.☆Let as much light into your home/workspace as possible.Keep curtains and blinds open during the day, move your desk closer to the window.☆If necessary, use a light treatment box.A light treatment box can create sunshine and can be especially useful during short winter days when there's limited daylight.Improve melatonin production at night☆Turn off your television and computer. Many people use the television to fall asleep or relax at the end of the day.Not only does the light hold back melatonin production, but television can actually excite the mind, rather than relaxing it.Try listening to music or audio books, or practicing relaxation exercises. If your favorite TV show is on late at night, record it for viewing earlier in the day.☆Don't read from a backlit device at night (such as an iPad). If you use a portable electronic device to read, use an eReader that is not backlit, i.e.one that requires an additional light source such as a bedside lamp.☆Change your light bulbs.Avoid bright lights before bed, use low-wattage bulbs instead.☆When it's time to sleep, make sure the room is dark. The darker it is, the better you'll sleep.Cover electrical displays, use heavy curtains or shades to block light from windows, or try an eye mask to cover your eyes.☆ Use a flashlight to go to the bathroom at night. As long as it's safe to do so, keep the light to a minimum so it will be easier to go back to sleep.五任务型阅读Do we need an “Ivy League”?China may soon have its own “Ivy League”, with a union of top universities. The term originally referred to an athletic conference of eight top universities in the northeastern US. The Chinese version, which was officially started in mid-October, consists of nine famous universities, including Peking, Tsinghua, Zhejiang and Fudan. The union is supposed to result in student exchange programs, recognition of academic achievements, and other joint programs. The news of this Chinese “Ivy League” has received mixed responses from the public and press. Some negative critics have dismissed it as yet another example of the wishful copying of international practices without fully understanding them. Others say that the “Ivy League” is not necessary but that the union is a good idea, one that could promote academic development. So what’s your opinion on a Chinese “Ivy League”? Do we need one?Yes. Ivy League or not, nine of China’s best universities cooperating is a good thing. These universities combining resources could create a better environment for students and for research. It could also save a lot of time and resources because it would mean fewer unnecessary investments for some of the universities.Allowing students to move to or have exchanges with other universities could broaden their horizons, improve their social skills and create more employment opportunities. The results could be more important than lessons and achievements. The term “Ivy League” carries a sense of academic excellence, tradition and reputation. If borrowing such a term could encourage students’ and professors’ mental state and improve Chinese higher education, then there’s no reason not to do it.No. Universities should do some work on increasing cooperation instead of copying an “Ivy League” model. Many Chinese universities already have such cooperation with each other. If this cooperation were associated with the “Ivy League”, it would just distract (分散) attention and resources and have a negative effect. These Chinese universities are all state-run and most get their funding from the government. They’re quite similar to each other in many ways and more cooperation wouldn’t bring about as much potential ability as between , say, public and private, or Chinese and foreign universities.China should find its own way to develop world-class universities instead of by copying some foreign practices. We have our own unique conditions and foreign lessons often don’t apply well here.五任务型阅读creation6. less7. mentally/spiritually8. Attention9. similarities 10. copying。

专题检测卷(二十八)任务型阅读(建议用时: 30分钟)1In secret, we all talk to ourselves—an inner monologue(自言自语)that might seem rather pointless. As that study and others go on to show, the act of giving ourselves mental messages can help us learn and perform at our best. Researchers have identified the most effective forms of self-talk so that the next time you talk to yourself, you know exactly what you should say.Self-talk isn’t just motivational messag e like “You can do it! ”or “Almost there, ”although this internal(内心的)cheering section can give us confidence. A review of more than two dozen studies, published last year in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, found that there’s another kind of mental message that is even more useful, called “instructional self-talk”. This is the kind of comment we engage in when we’re carrying out a difficult task, especially one that’s unfamiliar to us. Think about when you were first learning to drive. Your self-talk might have gone something like this: “Foot on the gas pedal, hands on the wheel, slow down for the curve here, now put your blinker on. . . ”Over time, of course, giving yourself instructions becomes unnecessary—but while you’re learning, it does three important things. First, it improves our attention, focusing us on the important elements of the task and screening out distractions. Second, it helps us adjust our effort and make decisions about what to do, how to do it, and when. And third, self-talk allows us to control our emotions, steadying us so we stay on task.In a recent study of students learning to throw darts(飞镖)in a gym class, Athansios Koloverlonis and his colleagues found that self-talk is most effective when included into a cycle of thought and action. First comes forethought(筹划), when you set a goal for yourself and make a plan for how to get there. That’s followed by performance, when you work out the plan to the best of your ability. Last comes self-reflection, when you caref ully evaluate what you’ve done and adjust your plan for the next time.Self-talk can play a key part in this cycle. During the forethought period, consider carefully what you’ll say to yourself. You can even write out a script. Repeat these self-instructions during the performance period. With practice, you may find that your self-instructions become shorter; research has found that these so-called “cue words” can become powerful signals. After the action is over, consider how you might change your self-talk to improve your performance next time—so that at the moment it matters, the right words are ringing in your ears.2(2013·苏州模拟) Tired of your old car and want to move on to a new one? Or maybe you just don’t have any use for the car anymore while still covering the expenses? Why not sell it to someone who wants it and will take good care o f it. You’ll get some profit in return, and you won’t have to be burdened with a car that will be more useful to others. The first step to selling your used car would be to prepare the car for the sale. Make sure that it is still in a useful condition. What use is there for the buyer if the car doesn’t even work? You’ll never get buyers if the car is in such a poor state. So it’s best to make your car presentable and competent. Take good pictures of your car, and make a list of its features that you think would appeal to potential buyers. The next course to take would be to get the word out that you’re selling your car. You can do it by making an ad in the newspapers, or you can use the Web and advertise through an Internet auction. Make sure that in your ad, you write down the car’s features and condition as honestly as you can. If you’re not sure on how to make an ad, browse through automotive(汽车的)magazines and issues and take a look at how the other sellers do it.If your car is one of the new models in the automobile industry, youmight be able to attract a lot of buyers. It would be best to make some improvements to your car, at least on its appearance. Make it obvious that it is a new model. If you’re selling an old car, though, it might take more wor k to improve the car’s appearance. You will also have to make sure the car still functions as well as new. There may be instances where you will have to change some things to the car to make it more attractive to buyers. Be careful with the electrical and electronic parts of the car when cleaning it. Check the engine, too, and make sure you have it fully charged and the oil and filter have been changed. When doing the financial transaction for the sale, insist on a cash payment, or cashier’s check. Just ma ke sure that the money has already arrived in your account before signing over the title to your buyer. Never accept a personal check, though. It is not advisable, especially with such an amount. Once you’ve settled these things with your buyer, you can ha nd over the signed title and the key to the car, and move on with your own purchase of a new car.Title: How to Sell a Second-hand Car3(2013·盐城模拟) There are many things that we wish to achieve in life. For some, we set goals and objectives, and for some we don’t. Try to remember the last time you set a goal to achieve a certain task. Were you able to complete the task in an effective manner? The tasks which are done by setting and meeting daily goals will definitely be useful and rewarding experiences. A step-by-step approach towards achieving smaller goals is the key to achieving larger ones. When it comes to the workplace, each and every employee is expected to meet daily responsibilities and expectations. With organizations becoming more and more competitive, the importance of goal-setting for employees is increasing. It helps the employee to perform better and increases his or her efficiency and time management. It’s also important for every student to set high academic goals so as to be able to build a good career.Setting goals for completing the daily schedule helps an employee to finish the assigned tasks and targets in a timely manner. If an employee is performing the way he or she is expected to, then this will automatically increase the performance, output and productivity of both the employee and the organization. Daily study targets are the same. This helps you completeyour assignments within the set time, thus putting less pressure on you during exams and increasing your chances of performing well. How many times you have to be at work on a weekend just to complete your work? How many times you have had to stay up all night to complete your homework or study for your exams? Had you followed your set goals and targets right from the beginning, you would have spent the time relaxing rather than being busy working or studying! Setting up goals and objectives helps you organize your time and efforts in an efficient manner. In performing your work diligently, you are likely to keep a steady pace when it comes to fulfilling your set targets. Because you are already on track, there will be no unnecessary workload and time limits over your head. Therefore, another benefit of effective goal-setting is lack of stress and a more calm and relaxed mind. Only a stress-free and calm mind can house progressive and productive thoughts. A calm mind causes positivity, which goes a long way towards increasing your ability to achieve the personal goals you have set for yourself. Each and every human being aims to achieve two things: to fulfill desires and to enjoy life. This is possible only through proper discipline and time management. Goal-setting leads to not only professional growth but also personal growth and development. You are expected to know that every step counts and that setting up goals is easy, but following them on aconsistent basis is difficult. Therefore, if you want to be successful and also harvest the fruits of your hard work, you need to stick to your set goals and be focused towards achieving them. Realize the significant role that goal-setting plays in your life, make sure that you do all you can to achieve what you want, set your goals, work towards achieving them and celebrate your success!答案解析11. 【解析】Title/Topic。

Did you know that falling down is the leading cause of injury death for Americans aged 65 and older? Each year 35 to 40 percent of older adult Americans fall at least once.Falling down is not just the result of getting older. Falling can be caused by a variety of circumstances, and many falls can be prevented. Here are 4 simple steps you can take to significantly reduce your risk of injury from falling down.Improve Your Body Balance with Exercise to Prevent Falling●If you don’t have a regular exercise program, start one. Lack of exercise leads to weakness, and that increases your chances of falling.●Exercises can improve your body balance and flexibility at any age. Try exercises like Yoga and Tai Chi.●If you are over 50 and haven’t exercised regularly, check with your health care provider about the best type of exercise program for you.Increase Your Home’s Accessibility and Safety to Reduce Falling RisksAbout half of all falls happen at home. To increase accessibility and make your home safer:●Remove items you might trip over from stairs and places where you walk.●Remove small throw rugs(易滑地垫)or use double-sided tape to keep rugs from slipping.●Have grab bars installed next to your toilet, and install grab bars in your tub or shower.●Improve the lighting in your home.●Make sure all stairways have handrails and sufficient lighting.●Wear shoes that give good support and have thin non-slip soles. You might also consider avoiding lightweight slippers ( especially backless styles), which can reduce your feeling of control.Prevent Falling : Watch Out for Medication Side EffectsAge can effect the way some medications work in your body, so if you have been taking any over-the-counter medications for a while, it’s important to tell your health care provider. These side effects can increase your risk of falling . this especially important with over-the-conter cold and flu medications, which can often increase drowsiness.●And don’t forget herbal remedies(草药). Some remedies increase sleepiness and many react with other types of medication, which could increase your risk of falling down. Be sure to check with your health care provider before trying new medication.Want to Prevent Falling? Have Your Vision Checked RegularlyVision problems can increase your chances of falling.●You may be wearing the wrong glasses that cause vision problems or limit your vision.●To reduce your risk of falling , have your vision checked by an eye doctor every nyear for early detection and correction of vision problems. 专题检测卷(三十一)任务型阅读(建议用时: 20分钟)1(原创)Nearly half(47%)of US teens say their social life would end or be worsened without their cell phone, and nearly six in ten(57%)believe their mobile device can improve their life, according to a national survey from CTIA and Harris Interactive.A majority(57%)of teens view their cell phone as the key to their social life.Second only to clothing, teens say, a person’s cell phone tells the most about their social status or popularity, outranking jewelry, watches and shoes.More than half of the respondents(52%)agree that the cell phone has become a new form of entertainment.One-third of teens play games on their phone.80% say their cell phone provides a sense of security while on the go, confirming that the cell phone has become their mobile safety net when needing a ride(79%), getting important information(51%), or just helping out someone in trouble(35%).Teens carry cell phones to have access to friends, family and current events.Though only about one in five(18%)teens care to pinpoint the location of their family and friends via their cell phone, 36% hate the idea of a cell phone feature that allows others to know their exact location. The study also confirmed that texting is replacing talking among teens. Teens admitted spending nearly an equal amount of time talking as they do texting each month. The feature is so important to them that if texting were no longer an option 47% of teens say their social life would end or be worsened—that’s esp ecially so among females(54% vs. 40%).Teens say texting has advantages over talking because it offers more options, including multitasking, speed, the option to avoid verbal(口头的)communication, and because it is fun, according to the study. With more than 1 billion text messages sent each day, it is no surprise that 42% of teens say they can text blindfolded, the study found. The survey asked teens what future changes they’d like to see in wireless services and devices and found that respondents want cell phones that break boundaries(界线)and are personalized to fit their lifestyles.Teens remain excited and openminded about the wireless possibilities and their ideal future mobile devices would feature five applications—phone, MP3 player, GPS, laptop computer and video player, according to Harris.“In the future, mobility for teens means mobile banking, mobile voting, location based services, personal entertainment—the sky is the limit for how mobile our lifestyles can be, ”said Steve Largent, president an d CEO, CTIA-The Wireless Association. “We’ve certainly come a long way in 25 years and expect teens to be a growth driver for the industry and have a major impact on the wireless landscape for years to come. ”2(原创)High School Activities & Good GradesGrades really begin to have meaning to students when high school arrives. A student’s grades can help determine scholarship money for college and even help or hurt the chances of getting into the best post-secondary schools. For students who wish to improve their grades as much as possible, it’s a good idea to make a habit out of activities that tend to increase the grade point average(GPA平均分)in high school. Some students may not know about the benefits of these activities, and should be encouraged by parents and friends.Note Taking HabitsTaking notes is invaluable for students who are trying to raise their grades. There are several reasons why note taking is important. First, teachers tend to talk about what they plan to test on. This is whether the information is in the textbook or not. Of course it is important to read the texts, but pay special attention to what the teacher says in class and you’ll have a greater idea of what he thinks is important in the lecture—which is likely what he’ll expect you to know on test day. Keeping notes also keeps your mind busy on the subject and discourages daydreaming during important lectures.SportsForget about the “dum b jock(四肢发达)”stereotype(老一套). It’s simply not true in most cases. According to the California Interscholastic Federation website, multiple studies showed that students who participate in high school athletics tend to have a higher overall GPA than non-athletes and miss fewer days of school. One study on the site reveals nearly a full point higher GPA, half as many absences, 10 percent fewer disciplinary actions, nearly eight times lower dropout rate and five percent higher graduation rate for student athletes.Study GroupsStudy groups are an excellent activity for students who wish to better their grades. Getting a small group of students together regularly to discuss and work on a particularly difficult subject will help all the students involved better understand the concepts. The activity helps the students learn the material, but it also teaches them to work cooperatively, learn different ways to approach problems and alternative thinking processes and builds self-confidence. There is a big relief for k ids who realize they aren’t the only ones who don’t understand a concept in class.Seek Extra Credit(额外学分)Extra credit can mean the difference in Bs and As for a student. The problem is, not every teacher will allow extra credit—but many do. Sometimes all it takes is a request. If a student shows that he is reallyinterested in learning, wants desperately to make higher grades and is willing to work for it, then often a teacher is more than happy to send extra assignments along to help increase grades. Make a habit out of asking for extra credit any time your grades can possibly be higher. Your final GPA won’t reflect whether it required extra credit work, and that number could get you into a college you wouldn’t have otherwise been accepted into.答案解析11. 【解析】result/outcome。
