➢Thomas Arkle Clark (1862-1932) : instructor and Professor of English (1893-99), and dean of undergraduate (1901-09) and men (1909-31) at the University of Illinois. Clark was head of the University of Illinois Department of Rhetoric in 1895 when he helped organize Alpha Tau Omega's (ATO) Gamma Zeta chapter and was its first initiate. Seven years later, he was named dean of men, the first in America to have that title. "Unofficially, he won the title of Keeper of the University's Conscience through his insistence on high ethical and moral standards," records the ATO Story. He did likewise for ATO as Worthy Grand Chief, High Council member, Educational Advisor, and Brother. Brother Clark was nationally known in the early part of the century for his efforts developing the modern Greek system. He served the national fraternity as "Worthy Grand Chief" for several terms. To this day, the highest honor a graduating senior can achieve is the Thomas Arkle Clark Award. The Thomas Arkle Clark Award annually recognizes Alpha Tau Omega's most outstanding senior candidates for undergraduate degrees. It was established as an incentive for young brothers to seek excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and the personal qualities of character, integrity, and responsibility. Clark’s publications include Facts for Freshmen (1911, 1914, 1916, 1927), The Fraternity and the College (1915), Sunday Eight O'Clock (1916), and many magazine articles on fraternities and college life.

关键词:说明文, 人与社会, 棉花糖测试, 心理测试, 信息轰炸, 抵御诱惑The Stanford marshmallow (棉花糖) test was originally conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the late 1960s. Children aged four to six at a nursery school were placed in a room. A single sugary treat, selected by the child, was placed on a table. Each child was told if they waited for 15 minutes before eating the treat, they would be given a second treat. Then they were left alone in the room. Follow-up studies with the children later in life showed a connect ion between an ability to wait long enough to obtain a second treat and various forms of success. As adults we face a version of the marshmallow test every day. We’ re not tempted (诱惑) by sugary treats, but by our computers, phones, and tablets — all the devices that connect us to the global delivery system for various types of information that do to us what marshmallows do to preschoolers. We are tempted by sugary treats because our ancestors lived in a calorie-poor world, and our brains developed a response mechanism to these treats that reflected their value —a feeling of reward and satisfaction. But as we’ve reshaped the world around us, dramatically reducing the cost and effort involved in obtaining calories, we still have the same brains we had thousands of years ago, and this mismatch is at the heart of why so many of us struggle to resist tempting foods that we know we shouldn’t eat.A similar process is at work in our response to information. Our formative environment as a species was information-poor, so our brains developed a mechanism that prized new information. But global connectivity has greatly changed our information environment. We are now ceaselessly bombarded (轰炸) with new information. Therefore, just as we need to be more thoughtful about our caloric consumption, we also need to be more thoughtful about our information consumption, resisting the temptation of the mental “junk food” in order to manage our time most effectively.32. What did the children need to do to get a second treat in Mischel’s test?A. Take an examination alone.B. Show respect for the researchers.C. Share their treats with others.D. Delay eating for fifteen minutes.33. According to paragraph 3, there is a mismatch between_______.A. the calorie-poor world and our good appetitesB. the shortage of sugar and our nutritional needsC. the rich food supply and our unchanged brainsD. the tempting foods and our efforts to keep fit34. What does the author suggest readers do?A. Absorb new information readily.B. Be selective information consumers.C. Use diverse information sources.D. Protect the information environment.35. It is promoted as an exclusive product for people who love ground coffee. Its image is of an Italian-style coffee. It has a strong and slightly bitter taste, and costs more than almost every other ground coffee product on the market.ProblemsIn the last two years, Caferoma's share of the quality ground coffee market has declined by almost 30%. There are several reasons for this:A) Brand loyalty: Consumers have become less loyal to brands and more price conscious. They are willing to buy lower-priced coffee products.B) Price: Supermarkets are selling, under their own label, similar products to Caferoma at much lower prices.C) "Copycat" products: Competing products of Italian-style ground coffee are selling at prices 30 to 40% lower than Caferoma.D) Brand image: the Caferoma brand no longer seems to be exciting and up-to-date.Market share European quality ground coffee Top fiveEuropean coffeebrandsOther brands Supermarket ownlabel brandsCaferomaTop fiveEuropean coffeebrandsOther brands Supermarket ownlabel brandsCaferomaSales outlets as a (%) percentage of Caferoma sales 0102030405060H o t e l sR e s t a u r a n t s S u p e r m a r k e t s S p e c i a l i s t s h o p s 2 years ago last year2 years agoLast yearFocus group resultsDo you think Caferoma is ... % of people answering "yes" Expensive? 60Value for money? 43Good quality? 70Old-fashioned? 80Exciting? 23Exclusive? 55Possible solutions1.Repositioning the productChange Caferoma's image to appeal to a different market segment. The time came for the annual “hearing tests” given at our school. I was barely able to hear anything out of one ear, and was not about to show yet another problem that would single me out as different. So I cheated. Each child would go to the door of the classroom, turn sideways, close one ear with a finger, and the teacher would whisper something from her desk, which the child would repeat. Then the same thing was done for the other ear.

你对改善学校食堂餐饮的建议英语作文
你对改善学校食堂餐饮的建议英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Making Our School Cafeteria BetterHello everyone! My name is Lily, and I'm a student at Sunshine Elementary School. Today, I want to talk about something important: our school cafeteria. I believe that we can make it even better! Let's explore some ideas together.Firstly, we should have more variety in our school meals. Sometimes, the food in the cafeteria gets a little boring, and we end up eating the same things over and over again. It would be great if we could have different options each day, like sandwiches, salads, or even some international dishes. This way, we can try new things and have a more exciting lunchtime!Secondly, we should focus on making our meals healthier. It's important to eat nutritious food to keep our bodies strong and our minds sharp. I think we should have more fruits and vegetables available, as well as whole grains. Maybe we could even have a salad bar where we can choose our own fresh ingredients. This would make eating healthy fun and enjoyable!Another suggestion is to involve students in the cafeteria planning. After all, we are the ones who eat there every day! It would be great if the cafeteria staff could ask us for feedback and ideas. They could even have a suggestion box where we can share our thoughts on the food and the overall experience. This way, we can work together to make the cafeteria a place we all love.Furthermore, I think it would be nice to have some cozy and inviting spaces in the cafeteria. Sometimes, it can be a bit noisy and crowded, making it hard to relax and enjoy our meals. By creating different seating areas, like a reading corner or a quiet zone, we can have a more pleasant dining environment. It's important to feel comfortable while we eat!Lastly, let's not forget about reducing waste. We can all do our part by using reusable containers and utensils instead of disposable ones. This way, we can help protect our environment and make our school more eco-friendly. It would be great if the cafeteria could provide recycling bins and educate us about the importance of reducing waste. In conclusion, there are many ways we can improve our school cafeteria. By adding more variety, focusing on healthy options, involving students in the planning process, creatinginviting spaces, and reducing waste, we can make our cafeteria a better place for everyone. Let's work together to make our lunchtime experience even more enjoyable and delicious!Remember, small changes can make a big difference. So let's start making our voices heard and make our school cafeteria the best it can be! Thank you for listening.Word Count: 339 words篇2Improving School Cafeteria FoodHi everyone! Well, I have some suggestions on how we can make our school cafeteria food even better!First of all, we should have more variety in our cafeteria menu. Eating the same food every day can get boring, right? I think it would be great if we could have a different menu each week. This way, we can try new things and discover new favorite foods. It would be amazing to have different options like pasta, stir-fry, or even sushi. Including more fruits and vegetables in ourmeals is also important. They are not only tasty but also good for our health!Next, let's talk about the importance of freshness. Have you ever had a sandwich with stale bread or a salad with wilted vegetables? It's not very appetizing, is it? I believe that fresh ingredients make a big difference in the taste and quality of our meals. It would be wonderful if our school could source fresh and locally grown produce. This way, we can enjoy meals that are not only delicious but also support local farmers.Another idea to improve our cafeteria food is to involve students in the decision-making process. After all, we are the ones eating the food, so our opinions matter! How about having a suggestion box where we can share our ideas and feedback? We can suggest new dishes, request our favorite foods, or even provide feedback on the current menu. This way, the cafeteria staff can understand our preferences and make changes accordingly. In addition to that, it would be great if we could have themed days in our cafeteria. For example, we can have a Mexican food day, a Chinese food day, or even a healthy food day. This would make lunchtime more exciting and give us a chance to learn about different cultures through food. Plus, itwould be a great opportunity for us to try new and interesting dishes!Lastly, let's not forget about the importance of presentation. We all know that we eat with our eyes first, right? So, it would be fantastic if our cafeteria could make the food look more appealing. Simple things like arranging fruits in an attractive way or adding colorful garnishes can make a big difference. When the food looks appetizing, we will be more excited to eat it!In conclusion, there are many ways we can improve our school cafeteria food. By offering more variety, ensuring freshness, involving students in decision-making, introducing themed days, and paying attention to presentation, we can make our cafeteria meals more enjoyable and nutritious. Let's work together to make our school cafeteria a place where we can look forward to having a tasty and healthy lunch every day!篇3My Suggestions for a Better School CafeteriaHi there! My name is Emma, and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I love a lot of things about my school, like my amazing teachers, all my cool friends, and getting to learn new things every day. However, there's one area where Ithink our school could really use some improvements: the cafeteria food! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm really grateful that our cafeteria ladies work hard to make meals for all of us kids every single day. That's a huge job, and I appreciate their effort. But to be honest, the food isn't always the tastiest or healthiest. A lot of times, it's kind of bland, mushy, or just plain weird. And there's not a lot of variety from one day to the next.I think having a better cafeteria with yummier, fresher, more nutritious food could make a really big difference for me and my classmates. After all, we're growing kids, and we need good fuel to keep our bodies and brains going throughout the long school day. The proper nutrients help us learn, grow, and have energy for all our activities. So, I've thought a lot about ways to improve our cafeteria, and here are my top suggestions:More fresh fruits and veggiesI'd love to see a bigger salad bar with lots of fresh greens, juicy tomatoes, crunchy carrots and cucumbers, berries, melon, and other yummy fruits and veggies. That would make it easier and more appealing for us kids to get our daily servings ofproduce. The salad bar could have plenty of healthy toppings too, like beans, nuts, seeds, and low-fat dressings.Fewer processed foodsA lot of the meals seem to come from cans, boxes, or plastic bags - stuff like chicken nuggets, corn dogs, tater tots, canned pasta, etc. While those items can be okay once in a while, I think the cafeteria relies on them too much. It would be awesome to have more freshly made entrées prepared right in the cafeteria kitchen, using whole foods and healthy ingredients.More variety and ethnic cuisinesIt seems like we have a lot of the same basic dishes recycled over and over - burgers, pizza, pasta, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love those foods, but I'd love to see more variety. Maybe we could have dishes from different cultures and cuisines? Mexican food one day, Italian the next, then Indian or Japanese or Soul Food. That would make lunchtime so much more interesting and exciting!Kid-friendly but elevated recipesI know the cafeteria has to make foods that kids will generally like and eat. But a lot of the dishes seem quite bland and boring, like plain chicken smothered in bland sauces. Whynot liven things up with some more flavor and seasoning? Maybe chefs could make elevated, gourmet-ish versions of kid favorites that are still familiar but have more pizazz.A salad or yogurt parfait barFor those times when the hot entree doesn't look appealing, it would be great to have a couple of fresh, tasty alternatives. Maybe a yogurt parfait bar with yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, nuts, honey, etc. Or a big salad bar as I mentioned before. That would give us the option to build our own light, healthy lunch.Vegetarian and vegan optionsSome of my friends have diets with no meat or animal products. They tell me the veggie options in the cafeteria aren't always that great. Couldn't we have some heartier plant-based main dishes more often, like veggie stir-fries, bean burgers, falafel, etc? That would make lunchtimes much easier for those kids."Taste-Test Tuesdays"This could be a fun way to get kids' input and feedback! Maybe once a month, the cafeteria could let us sample new menu items or recipes and vote on which ones we'd like to seemore often. That would ensure the foods are kid-approved and get us invested in healthier eating.Student advisory committeeAnother idea - why not form a student committee to work with the cafeteria staff? We could share our thoughts, make suggestions, and come up with creative ideas together. The cafeteria workers could bounce ideas off us to see what we think would be successful with students before rolling things out.Education about nutritionFinally, I think it would be great if the school could use the cafeteria as a way to educate us about nutrition and healthy eating habits. Maybe there could be signs or handouts explaining why certain foods are good for us and full of important nutrients. Or taste tests where we learn about where ingredients come from. The more we understand about what we're eating, the more inspired we'll be to make wise choices. So those are my ideas! I really think transforming our cafeteria into a place with fresher, tastier, more nutritious offerings could benefit all of us students tremendously. It would give us energy, regulate our moods, nourish our growing bodies, and even get us excited about meal times instead of dreading them. Lunchtime at school would be so much more fun if we had篇4Improving School Cafeteria FoodHi everyone! 学校食堂故事的作文英语
The school cafeteria has always been a place of bustling activity, a melting pot of flavors, and a hub of social interaction for students. Its not just a place to grab a quick bite its a part of our daily routine, a place where we share experiences, and sometimes, even witness or become part of stories that we carry with us long after graduation. My story with the school cafeteria began on the first day of high school. Stepping into the large, noisy hall filled with the chatter of new faces, the aroma of various dishes wafting through the air, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. The cafeteria was a maze of tables and queues, each with its own unique story waiting to unfold. One of the most memorable experiences was during my sophomore year when I decided to try out for the schools cooking club, which held its meetings right next to the cafeteria. This was not just about learning to cook it was about understanding the art of creating something from scratch, something that could bring joy to others through taste. The cafeteria became a second home, a place where I honed my culinary skills under the guidance of our enthusiastic teacher, Mrs. Patel. The club was a small, tightknit group, and we bonded over shared meals and laughter. One day, we decided to host a Cookoff event in the cafeteria, inviting students to taste our creations and vote for their favorite dish. It was a nervewracking experience, but also incredibly rewarding. The cafeteria was transformed into a lively food festival, with each of us showcasing our culinary prowess. The event was a hit, and it not only boosted our confidence but also brought the school community closertogether.Another unforgettable story was during a particularly cold winter day. The cafeteria staff, known for their warmth and kindness, decided to surprise us with a special treat. As we entered the cafeteria, we were greeted by the sight of a large pot of hot, steaming soup. It was a simple gesture, but it touched our hearts. The warmth of the soup spread through our bodies, and the cafeteria buzzed with grateful chatter. It was moments like these that made the cafeteria feel less like a feeding ground and more like a sanctuary of shared warmth and care. The cafeteria was also the backdrop for many impromptu study sessions. With its long tables and ample space, it became a favorite spot for groups of students to gather, share notes, and prepare for exams. The hum of conversation, the rustle of papers, and the occasional laughter made the study sessions less daunting and more enjoyable. As the years passed, the cafeteria continued to be a constant in my school life. It was where I celebrated birthdays with friends, where I had my first date, and where I shared countless meals with my classmates. The cafeteria was a canvas of memories, each day adding a new stroke to the painting of my high school experience. In the end, the school cafeteria was more than just a place to eat it was a place where stories were born, friendships were forged, and life lessons were learned. It was a place that, despite its simple purpose, played asignificant role in shaping the person I am today. As I look back, I realize that the cafeteria was not just a part of my school it was a part of my story.。
