一、考试目的
《翻译硕士英语》作为全日制翻译硕士专业学位(MTI)入学考试的外国语考试,其
目的是考察考生是否具备进行MTI学习所要求的英语水平。
二、考试性质与范围
本考试是一种测试应试者单项和综合语言能力的尺度参照性水平考试。
考试范围包括MTI考生应具备的英语词汇量、语法知识以及英语阅读与写作等方面的技能。
考试3小时。
三、考试基本要求
1. 具有良好的英语基本功,认知词汇量在10, 000以上,掌握6, 000个以上(以英语为例)的积极词汇,即能正确而熟练地运用常用词汇及其常用搭配。
2. 能熟练掌握正确的英语语法、结构、修辞等语言规范知识。
3.具有较强的阅读理解能力和英语写作能力。
四、考试形式
本考试采取客观试题与主观试题相结合,单项技能测试与综合技能测试相结合的方法。
各项试题的分布情况见“考试内容一览表”。
五、考试内容
本考试包括以下部分:词汇语法、阅读理解、英语写作。
总分为100分。

考生的认知词汇量应在10, 000以上,其中积极词汇量为6, 000以上,即能正确而熟练地运用常用词汇及其常用搭配。

titanium and titanium al-loys have led to a diversified range of successful applications for the demanding performance and reliability requirements of the medical,aerospace,automotive,petrochemical,nuclear and power generation industries [1–3].Titanium exhibits hexagonal crystal structure (a )at room temperature and undergoes allotropic trans-formation above 882°C to body centered cubic structure (b ).Hex-agonal crystal structure is favorable in creep critical applications owing to its low diffusivity.By appropriate alloying additions,the room temperature phase can be retained above the b transus and vice versa.The compositions of the alloys that are used in engi-neering applications are tailored to meet specific application requirement and contain different proportions of a and b phases.Alloys that contain 2–3%b phase are classified as near a alloys and exhibit superior creep properties among all the titanium al-loys.The microstructure of the titanium alloys is manipulated by thermo mechanical working and heat treatment.When near a and a +b titanium alloys with sufficient retained strain energy from the thermo mechanical working are heat treated below the b transus,a portion of a re-crystallizes as equiaxed a and the remaining b undergoes transformation to acicular/lath a with re-tained b in between.Such bi-modal microstructures exhibit best combination of creep,fatigue and toughness properties,[4].Theproportion of a and b phases at a temperature is dictated by com-position.For fruitful exploitation the heat treatment window over which the proportion of the phases remains constant (microstruc-ture stability)should be wide.Research in this direction has led to the development of TIMET 834.Near-a titanium alloy,TIMET 834was developed to meet the need for the high temperature,weld-able,Ti alloy with improved creep strength,fatigue performance and fine defect tolerant microstructure for compressor stage of jet engines both as disc and blade component [5,6].The design of aeroengine disc requires amongst other things,that it does not undergo excessive creep strain or approach creep failure.Though IMI 829(b processing alloy)has the highest tem-perature capability among the other Ti alloys by solution treatment in the b phase field,there are a number of disadvantages associated with it,firstly processing difficulty inherent in working close to b transus and secondly the lower tensile and fatigue strength.The main requirement was therefore to improve the temperature capa-bility and tensile fatigue situation which could be achieved through an alloy which is a /b processable.This resulted in the development of IMI 834[7].It has a wide range of microstructures depending upon the solu-tion treatment [5].The addition of carbon which,whilst being an a stabilizer and strengthening element,also has a second important function in widening the heat treatment window over which the transition from a to b phase occurs by virtue of shallow slope of b approach curve [8].A bi-modal microstructure fulfills the need of optimum combination of properties at service temperature of about 600°C [9].The ideal infine grained lamellar transformed b matrix which is expected to meet best compromise of properties[6,7].Primary a volume fraction is controlled by solution heat treatment in two phase(a+b)region and lamellar spacing is governed by quenching rate[10].Joining of Ti-alloys is mainly confined to fusion welding pro-cesses like gas tungsten arc welding(GTAW),gas metal arc weld-ing(GMAW),plasma arc welding,Laser beam welding(LBW)and electron beam welding(EBW)[1].Fusion welds of titanium are re-ported to be prone to gas related micro-porosity[11–15]that has an adverse impact on fatigue properties[15,16].Solid state weld-ing processes like friction welding is reported to be free from such problems[15]and it is used to achieve high performance joints of titanium alloy with(a+b)or b processed microstructure[17]. Keeping aforementioned in view a comparative evaluation of elec-tron beam welding and friction welding has been taken up.2.Experimental method2.1.Parent metalRods of22mm diameter hot rolled in the sub-transus region were employed for friction welding studies.The material used for electron beam welding was in the form of15mm thick plate obtained by hot rolling at1000°C of forged billet of30mm thick-ness that was forged at1000°position of the parent metal is shown in Table1.The b transus of the material was1055°C.The material in the as forged and rolled condition consists of unstabi-lized microstructure.To stabilize the microstructure,the material is subjected to a solutionizing treatment at1020°C followed by ageing at700°C(STA).After this heat treatment microstructure contains equiaxed primary a+transformed b.Heat treatments at different temperatures were carried out to have the optimum vol-ume fraction of primary a(20–22%)as shown in Fig.1a.Properties of parent metal with this microstructure are presented in Table2.The parent metal was also subjected to b heat treatment details of which is shown in Table3and its microstructure is shown in Fig.1b.2.2.WeldingFriction welding was carried out on a continuous drive friction welding machine of150kN capacity at10mm burn off(length loss)and at constant friction and forge forces of7.9kN and 38kN,respectively,at1200rpm speed.Electron beam welding was carried out on a low kV electron beam welding machine of60kV and80kW capacity of Techno-mate make.Fifteen millimeter thick plates were butt-welded at a constant beam voltage of55kV and105mA beam current at three speeds namely,0.75,1.00and1.25m/min.2.3.Post-weld heat treatmentThe heat treatments consisted of two types namely(I)solution-izing followed by ageing(STA)(II)post-weld ageing(PWA).The ef-fect of cooling after solutionizing was also studied.Nomenclature of heat treatments and its details are provided in Table3.Each weld is identified by the parent metal processing history followed by post-weld treatment.2.4.Metallography and mechanical propertiesMacro and microstructural examinations were carried out after conventional metallographic sample preparation.The welds were examined by TEM to investigate the microstructural changes that occur during STA and ageing treatments.Notch tensile testing was carried out as plain tensile specimens failed outside the weld [18].Testing was performed employing standard specimen config-urations with a gauge length of25mm and notch located at weld center.Charpy‘V’notch specimen of10mmÂ10mmÂ55mm were employed with the notch located at the weld center.Testing was carried out at room temperature.Creep and stress rupture tests were performed at constant load with a single arm ratio of50:1.Creep test was conducted at a stress of150MPa at873K while stress rupture was carried out at a stress of220MPa and at a temperature of923K.In creep test the per-centage creep strain was Fig.2.The weld region contains very fine prior b grains and transformed b structure with lath martensite.Prior b grain size is coarser in the peripheral region of the weld as a consequence of higher tempera-tures that prevail in the peripheral region.More heat generation at the peripheral region results in the wedge shape of the weld.Adja-cent to the weld primary equiaxed a experienced deformation that is predominant in the peripheral region possibly due to higher velocity in that region Fig.3.Post-weld ageing did not show micro-structure changes at optical level.3.1.2.Mechanical propertiesThe effect of starting parent metal processing history and post-weld heat treatments on notch tensile strength,impact toughness,creep and stress rupture properties is provided in Table 4.Influ-ence of cooling rate after solutionizing at 1020°C on the mechan-ical properties forms part of the data provided in Table 4.3.1.2.1.Notch tensile strength.Notch tensile strength (NTS)of the welds in the as welded condition matches with that of parent me-tal in solution treated and aged condition taking into account the scatter in the parent metal NTS (Table 2).Post-weld ageing led to reduction in NTS.Fractograhic examination revealed that the frac-ture was ductile in the as welded condition and PWA resulted in cleavage like fracture (Fig.4a and b).3.1.2.2.Impact condition shear lips are evident and the same are absent in post-weld aged condition.This difference in the behavior is possibly due to ductility reduction as a result of ageing.3.1.2.3.Creep and stress rupture.Creep and stress rupture properties improved when the welds were subjected to ageing treatment.It is observed that air cooling after solution treatment results in better creep and stress rupture properties as compared to that after oil quenching.Cooling rate effects on creep properties are as per trends reported in near a [19]and a +b alloys [16].3.2.Electron beam welding3.2.1.MetallographyFrom the microstructures shown in Fig.5,it is observed that the welds contain microspores.The occurrence of these pores is pre-dominant in the root portion of the weld.The weld microstructure consists of lath martensite.3.2.2.Mechanical propertiesThe influence of prior processing history of the parent metal and welding speed and post-weld ageing on the mechanical prop-erties of electron beam welds is presented in Table 5.3.2.2.1.Notch tensile strength.In general the tensile strength is mar-ginally higher at high welding speeds.Post-weld ageing of low speed welds led to reduction in strength while an increase in the strength is observed in respect of high speed welds.Fracture fea-tures are ductile in as-welded condition while,brittle fracture is observed after PWA (Fig.6a and b).Welding speed showed mar-ginal influence on fracture behavior.3.2.2.2.Impact toughness.As-welded welds do not show much var-iation in impact toughness at different welding speeds.However,PWA results in drop in impact toughness (Table 5).The failure mode changes from ductile in the as-welded condition to brittle after post-weld ageing (Fig.6c and d).Shear lips,an aged condition.Welding speed exhibited very little influence on fracture features.3.2.2.3.Creep and stress rupture.At low welding speed as-welded joints showed poor creep property compared to PWA joints.At higher welding speed the trend gets reversed,i.e.as-welded joints have lower creep strain than those of the PWA joints (Table 5).From Table 5it can be seen that in general stress rupture life de-creases at higher welding speed.Wide scatter is noted in the as welded condition at low welding speed that gets reduced after post-weld ageing.4.DiscussionFriction welds contain very fine major problems in fusion welding of titanium alloy.The fine b grain size coupled with freedom from porosity is likely to impart better fatigue prop-erties as has been reported in some of the near a and a +b alloys [14,16]as compared to electron beam welds.A comparison of mechanical properties of electron beam and friction welds is given in Table 6.The notch tensile strength of elec-tron beam welds is higher than friction welds.Post-weld ageing leads to reduction in strength values of both electron beam welds and friction welds.The higher strength of electron beam welds could be due to the fine transformed b microstructure of electron beam welds.Another possibility for the lower strength of friction weld is the aligned microstructure in friction welds due to unidi-rectional flow of material.This aligned microstructure provides easy crack path along the direction of alignment which is perpen-dicular to the applied load during notch tensile testing.Charpy impact toughness of the welds is around 50%higher then that of the parent metal.The significant improvement in im-pact toughness of welds as compared to parent metal can be attrib-uted to much reduced amount of primary a grains in the weld metal.Boundaries of primary a grains are observed to be the pref-erential site for microcrack nucleation and provides easy path for fracture propagation [20].Impact toughness of electron beam and friction welds are com-parable taking into account the scatter that can be expected in im-pact properties.Post-weld ageing has resulted in drastic reduction in impact toughness and the same is reflected in brittle fracture features of post-weld aged joints.This behavior is attributed to possible aligned micro precipitation of b [16,21–23]coupled with silicides along the martensite lath boundaries [19,24]as reported in some of the titanium alloys and observed in this study (Fig.7a and b)These precipitates undergo coarsening after ageing treat-ment (Fig.8a and b).Reduction in impact toughness is more pro-nounced than that in notch tensile strength.The parent metal in solutionized condition when subjected to PWA does not result in drastic reduction of impact toughness.However,welds of same parent metal resulted in drastic reduction in impact toughness after post-weld ageing.To understand this behavior parent metal was subjected to b treatment (b -ST)which resulted in microstructure similar to the weld,i.e.transformed b structure comprising acicular/lath a .It was then subjected to ageing treatment (b -STA)and impact tough-ness properties of b treated and aged (b -STA)and a +b treated and aged materials were compared.b treated and aged material shows sharp reduction in impact toughness as compared to a +b treated and aged material (Table 7).This difference in the behavior could be attributed to the differ-ence in the microstructure of the two in that,base metal contains bi-modal microstructure while,welds contain transformed b struc-ture comprising acicular/lath a .In the event of precipitation along the lath interfaces,such a microstructure is likely to provide easy crack path (Fig.9a and b).In general the low toughness of welds is in conformity with the toughness of the parent metal [8]as it contains a stabilizers to a maximum permissible limit and such compositions exhibit low toughness [25].Friction welds exhibit lower creep and stress rupture properties in the as-welded and post-weld aged condition as compared to electron beam welds because of its very fine prior b grains.5.ConclusionsFriction welds exhibited very fine prior b grains with equiaxed morphology and the intergranular microstructure was coarser as compared to electron beam welds.Electron beam welds com-prised of columnar grain structure with fine transformed b intergranular microstructure.The notch tensile strength of electron beam welds was margin-ally higher as compared to friction welds as a result of fine trans-formed b microstructure.The creep properties of electron beam welds were superior to friction welds owing to coarser prior b grains present in these welds.The impact toughness of both electron beam and friction weld was comparable.Toughness degradation was observed when the welds were sub-jected to post-weld ageing due to interlath precipitation of silicides.A comparison of toughness trends of parent metal in b condition with the welds revealed that reduction in impact toughness due to post-weld ageing is predominant if the microstructure is entirely transformed b .AcknowledgementsThe authors express their
