阅读理解CD一I didn’t want to be a bodybuilding(健美) champion. I wanted to be the best bodybuilder of all time.Deep, deep down ask myself, “Who do you want to be?” Not what, but who. I’m talking about thinking it out for yourself, “What makes you happy?”Y ou have to think outside the box. That’s what I believe, after all. What’s the point of being on this Earth if all you want to be is be killed and avoid trouble? We have so many rules in life about everything. I say break the rules. Don’t break the law, but break the rules.I remember that after I had finished with my bodybuilding career I wanted to act. I wanted to be a star in films. Everyone had the same thought that I couldn’t be done. They said, “Look at this body, you have this huge monstrous(巨大的)body, you’re overly developed.” They thought I wouldn’t fit into movies. But I didn’t listen to them. Those were their rules. I was completely certain that I could do it.Then I got my big break(重大转机)in Conan the Barbarian. That shows you should trust yourself no matter what anyone else thinks. On that movie, the director said, “If we didn’t have Schwarzenegger, we would have to build one.” Then when I did The Terminator(终结者), I said, “I’ll be back…” One of the famous lines in movie history, all because of my crazy accent(腔调). It just shows that you should never listen to those who say you can’t do something.Don’t be afraid to fail. In everything that I have tried, I’ve always been willing to fail. Don’t be afraid of making decisions. You can’t be paralyzed(吓倒) with the fear of failure or you will never push yourself. You can push because you believe in yourself and your imagination. You know it’s the right thing to do and success will come. Don’t be afraid to fail.---By Arbold Schwarzenegger1. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): (12分)Super SingersImagine yourself singing in front of an audience, performing in other countries, and having your music put on a CD! All this excitement isn’t just for rock stars. Joining a children’s chorus gives kids the chance to do these exciting activities. What does it take to get into a children’s chorus? You don’t need years of singing lessons. You just need to have a love for singing and be willing to learn and follow directions. It all starts at the audition(试唱). The choirmaster, or conductor, will have you sing with a group of kids. As the group sings, the conductor listens to how your voice comes together. You’ll also probably be asked to sing by yourself. The conductor wants to figure out what type of voice you have. A girl with a high voice is a soprano while a girl with a low voice is an alto. A boy with a high voice is a tenor, while a boy with a low voice is a bass. When the whole chorus sings together, the different types of voices sing different notes to the same song. This is called “singing parts”.Once you pass the audition, you might be assigned to a specific group. Beginning singers are often grouped together in a “Treble Chorus”. More advanced singers might be in a “Concert Chorus”. Different choirs have different names for these groups. No matter which group you’re in, you’ll need to go to rehearsals. Most children’s choirs rehearse once a week.93. What do you need to join a children’s chorus?_____________________________________________________.94. How to wash your skinWhenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from themountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience(耐力).Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging(挑战性的)for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing. In fact, I hated it at that moment, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there at the top, can you see all of the nice things, which is just like your life.”At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got new hope and confidence. I found myself standing at the top of the sky, which was as clear as crystal(水晶).1. Why couldn't the writer and his father have enough time to spend together?A. Because the writer was very busy.B. You meet them every day on the sidewalk. They walk slowly, with their heads down and they will not look at you. They are living in a different world, a world of the mobile phone! Many people are complaining(抱怨) about these mobile phone zombies because they walk slowly, making it difficult for other people to use the sidewalk. Chongqing and a few other cities have come up with an idea to try to solve the prob lem. They’ve divided up sidewalks into lanes(线路):one lane for mobile zombies and one lane for everyone else. The experiment hasn’t worked out too well, since most mobile-zombies don’t even notice the lanes.I have another suggestion for the problem. In Shanghai, we have blind paths. They are made of small raised tiles(凸起的瓷砖) that help blind people follow a straight line. Perhaps the same way could be used for mobile zombies. A lane with a rough surface would allow people to concentrate on their mobile phones and still know they are walking in a straight line. Of course, I have a further suggestion. At the end of the lane would be a large hole where all the mobile-zombies would disappear into the center of the earth!Well, I don’t think my suggestion is going to be taken, but I don’t think special lanes for mobile zombies will work either. I think it’s just a better idea to remind(提醒) people that sidewalks are shared space and they should think of others when they are using their mobile phones.1. According to the passage, who are mobile phone zombies?A. The people who always look here and there on the road.B. The people who always play with mobile phones on the road.C. The people who hate using mobile phones when they are walking on the road.2. Why has not the lane for mobile-zombies in Chongqing worked out well?A. Because it is too expensive to walk on the lanes.B. Because there are so few lanes in Chongqing.C. Because few mobile-zombies notice the lanes in fact.3. The underlined word “rough" in Paragraph 3 means “_____”in Chinese.A.粗糙的B.光滑的C.漂亮的4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. Shanghai has also built lanes for the mobile-zombiesB. The writer’s suggestion for the mobile zombies was taken.C. 北京中考英语阅读理解D篇专项训练(附解析)

北京中考英语阅读理解D篇专项训练(附解析)

一、阅读单选Some high school students think it useless to receive higher education. Therefore, they choose not to go to college. If you’re one of them, think again. Here are some reasons why you should go to college and receive a good education there.Schools and universities are the first places to get knowledge. We take that knowledge later on to build our careers after graduation. More knowledge will be gained (获得) after you start working, but without education, that job will not be within easy reach. Knowledge leads to knowledge. While limited within the walls of the educational places, we openly explore other cultures of the world! We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable things to share, enriching our own. Education also makes us want to travel and exchange with various cultures, getting more experience. When there’s a recession in the economy (经济), those who attended college will be more likely to find a new job than those who only finished high school and have a limited skills set. The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn a higher salary. When you’re skillful and knowledgeable, you gain access (通道) to people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.A good education makes you a more interesting person. You can talk about ideas and events instead of just other people and what’s on sale in stores. An educated person doesn’t gossip (说闲话), having a preference to discuss ideas and listen to what other people have to say.1.What can we learn about college education from Paragraph 2?A.It offers you a chance to study abroad.B.It can allow you to gain more knowledge.C.It can improve the quality of your daily life.D.It encourages you to travel around the world.2.What does the underlined word “recession” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A.change.B.drop.C.growth.D.support.3.How can one benefit from a good education?A.You can gossip about others’ affairs.B.You are likely to study well at school. C.You can work well with your coworkers.D.You can get to know excellent people. 4.What is the main idea of the passage?A.The benefits of attending college.B.The exchange with other cultures.C.The access to good networking.D.The ways of college education. As digital devices (数字设备) have taken over society, keyboard activity is now often taken to replace early handwriting. The idea is that typing may be easier for young children. But a new study has found that using a pen or pencil activates (激活) more areas of your brain than a keyboard does.Audrey van der Meer, the study’s leader from the Norwegian University, believes that young children should learn to write by hand successfully. This is because writing “gives the brain more chances than typing to hang your memories on”, she explains. Think about it. When we write, our brain needs to think about and get back memories of the shape of each letter. We also need to use our eyes to watch what shapes we’re writing. And we need to control our hands to press a pen or pencil to shape the different letters. All of this uses and connects more areas of the brain.Along the way, these processes appear to “open the brain up for learning”, says Van der Meer. So learning through only one way — digital — could be harmful, she worries.Van der Meer also points out that taking notes by hand encourages “visual(视觉的) notetaking”. Rather than typing blindly, the visual notetaker has to think about what is important to write down. Then, key words can be “connected with boxes, arrows, and small drawings”. Drawing images and writing also turn on parts of the brain involved with learning. Writing even activates language areas. This suggests, Van der Meer says, that when we write by hand, “we both learn better and remember better”. So it’s important for children to learn handwriting in school from an early age. This study does not suggest giving up digital devices. In fact, it points out, computers and other devices with keyboards have become essential in many modern classrooms. Keyboarding also can be helpful for students with certain special needs (such as if they have trouble using their hands). But nearly all students will benefit from learning handwriting at an early age.Van der Meer agrees that learning to write by hand is a slower process and requires fine motor skills. But, she adds, that’s good: “If we don’t challenge our brain, we can’t make full use ofit.”5.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A.How writing and printing activate the brain.B.How typing involves more brain movements.C.Why people prefer keyboarding to handwriting.D.Why handwriting is important to young children.6.The word “essential” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?A.Famous.B.Expensive.C.Important.D.Traditional. 7.According to the study, which of the following about taking notes is TRUE?A.It can develop drawing skills.B.It’s good for language learning.C.It can stop people typing blindly.D.It’s a must for remembering letters.8.Van der Meer might agree that ________.A.learning through digital devices is harmfulB.taking notes by hand will be more popularC.schools will limit time of using computersD.children should learn handwriting earlyHuman activity is changing the surface and temperature of our planet. But new research shows it is also changing the sound of oceans and seas. Scientists say these changes affect (影响)many sea animals—from very small fish to huge whales.Sound travels very far underwater. For fish, sound is a better way to sense their environment than light. They use sounds to communicate with each other. Sounds also help some ocean animals find food and avoid their hunters. Sounds help fish and other sea animals survive(生存).However, increased noise from humans is making it harder for these animals to hear each other. The noise comes from shipping traffic, underwater oil and gas exploration, and other noisy human activity. For many sea animals, their efforts to communicate are being masked (被掩盖)by sounds that humans have introduced. Experts explain the term masking, which happens when one or more noises in the water block sound important to an ocean animal’s life. The Red Sea is one of the world’s most important shipping passages. It is full of large shipstraveling to Asia, Europe, and Africa. Some fish and other animals now avoid the noisiest areas. Also, the overall number of sea animals has gone down by about half since 1970. In some parts of the ocean, scientists now record fewer animals singing and calling than in the past.Experts say that effects of noise on sea animals are not well understood. However, some studies suggest that noise may cause hearing loss. The stress from human noise might also affect the immune(免疫)system-an animal’s natural defense system. Many sea animals are showing higher levels of stress because of noise. When people think of threats(威胁)facing the ocean, we often think of climate change, plastics, and overfishing. But noise pollution is another necessary thing we need to be monitoring. When it comes to something humans can do for the ocean, we need to think about how to make it quieter. Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than other ocean threats. You can reduce or turn off sound immediately. It’s not like plastics or climate change, which are much harder to undo.9.According to the passage, sounds can help sea animals in many ways except ________. A.blocking the sunshine outside B.searching for something to eatC.getting away from their hunters D.communicating with each other 10.What can you know from the passage?A.Noise does more harm to sea animals than humans realize.B.Plastic pollution is the biggest threat facing oceans and seas.C.Fish sense their environment better through light than sound.D.The Red Sea is one of the most popular fishing areas in the world.11.The underlined words “to undo” in Paragraph 6 probably mean “________”.A.to involve the effort B.to promise the result C.to cancel the effects D.to forget the influences12.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.Why Are Ocean Animals So Noisy?B.Helpful Ways to Save Ocean Animals. C.Humans Are Making Oceans Too Noisy.D.Which Threat to Oceans Is the Biggest?Do you know the proverb “no pains, no gains”? It gives the impression that we ought to be suffering while we study. It seems that the only way to know if we’re putting in enough work is how much hardship we bear. We are totally taken up with study, shutting ourselves away for a big exam. Is that necessarily true? When we haven’t taken the time to come up with another idea, we just shut ourselves in a room with a book. It’s no surprise that we find revision boring and difficult. Just as children learn from playing, we can learn from doing, or at least from study techniques that interest us, rather than make us switch off. Shutting ourselves away can make us learn to hate studying, leading to a situation where, instead of being able to concentrate on our work, we are troubled by how unfair it is that we must study. This can be part of a vicious(恶性的) cycle that traps us into ineffective revision, or poor progress fueling(增加) further annoyance.Thankfully, working in the company of other people really helps fight against that. We just need to learn how to deal with distractions(分心). It’s not necessary to avoid all company, just lazy company. They constantly try to keep others in conversation. While studying in the same room with someone who is ironing or working out is perfectly possible. Of course, it’s also a good idea to avoid the company of people involved in activities where you would rather be playing than studying. Working while sitting next to someone playing video games is most likely to end with a new high score game rather than productive revision. If being around others means working in a noisy environment, a pair of headphones and some background music can block out noises. They also act as a psychological barrier, so that people think twice before interrupting you. Besides, we should know friends and family can lessen feelings of isolation. And connecting with other people makes us happy, so it’s important not to give that up and to make sure that we take the time to socialize.13.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?A.Good ideas are needed in terms of progress.B.Ways that interest us can lead to effective revision.C.Shutting ourselves away can help concentrate on work.D.Revision is interesting and easy with study techniques for certain.14.According to Paragraph 3, the writer probably agrees that ________.A.one should learn from certain activities that interest usB.playing video games is helpful for an effective studyC.one shouldn’t study with the company of a video playerD.the more time one spends in playing games, the higher test scores one will get15.In the writer’s opinion, if you study in a noisy environment, you should ________. A.spend no time socializing B.give up others’ company at onceC.give signs of not wanting to be interrupted D.force yourself to be used to the environment 16.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?A.To introduce an effective studying means.B.To encourage us to work as hard as possible. C.To remind us to balance activities and study.D.To discuss the importance of family company. It is never too late to develop great study habits. If you’re starting a new school year, or you just want to improve your grades and school performance, proper study habits will help you. You’ll find that it does not take that long to form study habits and you may study differently from your friends, but your study habits are not wrong!Kelly and Maria are best friends with a lot of identical interests. They love doing things together, such as going to movies and concerts, shopping, or just sitting at a small cafe. Since they take a lot of the same school subjects, they would love to study together, but they find this impossible. Their working styles are so completely different that they can’t be in the same room while they are studying!Kelly would like to study in a clean, open space, while Maria works best with books, papers and other things around her. Kelly prefers to study in a totally silent room, but Maria loves to play music or even have the TV on. Kelly can sit for hours without moving, and often gets all her homework done in one sitting. Maria, however, is always getting up, and says that she thinks best when she’s on the move. You might be asking yourself: which way of studying gets better results? Many people believe that a silent, tidy setting is the way to go, but that doesn’t necessarily seem true. Someresearch has even shown that outside noise and untidiness help some people focus theirattention, because it makes them form a “wall” in their mind around what they are doing and improves their focus. So, if you’re a student who chooses to study while sitting at a table in a busy shopping center, don’t worry about it. If you work in total silence, that’s OK, too. Judging from Kelly’s and Maria’s study habits, the best way to study is the way that works for you. In their very different ways, both of them do well in school, and both finish their work within the required time as well. 17.What do we know from Kelly’s and Maria’s study habits?A.The students who like to study in silence can study well.B.Different students have different habits in their studies.C.We can form good study habits by finishing homework.D.People with different study habits can’t become friends.18.The word “identical” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.A.secret B.special C.same D.simple 19.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.Ways to Improve Your Study Habits.B.Are You Studying the “Right” Way?C.Is It Good to Study with Your Friends?D.Advice to Help You Make More Friends. 20.According to the passage, the writer believes that ________.A.we can have a wall to avoid the outside noise to improve the focus B.successful students should practice a lot to improve their study skillsC.proper study habits can help students make progress in their studies D.study together can help both of the friends get better grades in school参考答案:1.B2.B3.D4.A【解析】【导语】本文是篇说明文。

They were hitting him in the face with chestnut shells. And he, sitting on the ground became quite pale, begging them to leave him in peace. But they didn’t stop. They pulled Crossi upon a bench. All at once, Franti jumped upon the bench. Pretending that he was carrying a basket on each arm, he imitated Crossis mother when she used to come to wait for her son at the door. Many began to laugh loudly and Crossi was shaking slightly and turning red with anger.Suddenly Crossi took hold of an inkstand and threw it at the other’s head with all his strength, but Franti moved aside, and the inkstand hit the master who entered at the moment, full in the breast. All flew to their places and became silent with great fear. The master, quite pale, went to his table, and said in a controlled voice:“Who did it?”No one replied. The master cried out once more, raising his voice louder. “Who is it?”Then Garrone, moved to pity for poor Crossi, stood up and said firmly, “It was I.”The master looked at him and the confused students, then said in a calm voice. “It was not you.”And after a moment, he said, “The culprit will not be punished. Let him rise!”Crossi rose and cried. “They were striking me and insulting me, and I lost my head and threw it.”“Sit down,” said the master. “Let those who angered him rise.”Four rose and hung their heads. “You,” said the master, “have bullied an unfortunate companion you’ve hit a weak person who could not protect himself. You’ve done one of the most shameful acts!”Having said this, the master came down among the benches and went over to Garrone. He put his hand under Garrone’s chin and looked him straight in the eye, and said to him, “You are a noble soul.”Garrone caught the chance to murmur some words in the car of the master. “That’s a good idea, Garrone. She isn’t a girl I am fond of!”“Madison, you are being unreasonable. If every girl in your class is invited to a party but you, you’llfeel left out. It would be a big mistake to not invite Lucy to the party.”“She never talks to me!”Dad sighed and moved down the aisle. “Lucy is a new girl in class. She doesn’t know one single person in the school. Your party will be a great chance for her to get to know everyone.”“No, it won’t. She will probably sit in the corner and not talk to anyone. Every day at lunch she sits all by herself. She wants to eat alone!” Madison shrugged and rolled her eyes.“Madison, I’m done discussing this. You will invite every girl in your class, including Lucy Gilbert!”On Saturday morning, the family blew up balloons, hung them and the flags, decorating the house cheerfully. Madison was dressed beautifully for the day, wearing her new blue dress. It was not typical of her to dress herself like this. She usually wore sports clothes because she loved to be outside riding her horse Star with a lead rope.Madison greeted her friends in the doorway, picturing various presents her friends would bring her. As I put myself into cooking, some of the deep sadness I was experiencing at this one-year mark moved through me. I love my mom’s turkey soup and how she cooked the egg noodles right in it.While the noodles boiled in the soup in my kitchen, I realized that I was reconnecting with my mother through food. I suddenly felt my mother at hand and was filled with her presence. I was so uplifted and excited that I began talking to her, imagining she were there.“What else should we make?” I asked of us two, wanting to keep the talking from ending.“Irish potato pancakes,” was the reply.I hesitated. The thought of these brought up another loss. The last time I made potato pancakes was two and a half years ago. I had taken off my engagement ring to make the dough, and never found it again. Since then, I refused using that recipe even though I really liked those pancakes. It’s a bit silly. My mom should have known better than to suggest these, I thought. She knew how upset I was about losing my ring. I had always called her when I lost something, even when I was away at college, even from across the country, even when I traveled abroad. She had abilities for helping me find my lost things, except this time. But despite these hesitations, I found myself caught up in the happiness and celebration of the moment, and I reached for the cookbook without another thought of the ring. My mom did love Irish things, and these were delicious. I opened the large coffee-table cookbook and turned to the pancake recipe. Immediately, something at the bottom of the page caught my eye… It sparkled! I gasped in utter amazement! There, pressed into the pages of this book, was my diamond ring!Cold and fear ran up and down my body as my mind raced to consider how this was at all possible. Hadn’t I used the book for other recipes in the course of almost three years? Wouldn’t the ring have slipped out during the packing and unpacking of two household moves? Hadn’t I checked the book for the ring when I had lost it?My heart was filled with thankfulness and wonder. I slipped my ring onto my shaking finger, and a smile filled my spirit as I whispered, “Thanks, Mom.”That day, I made potato pancakes in the shape of hearts.9.The author _________ on the first anniversary of her mother’s death.A.traveled abroad with her friendsB.asked her mother to boil noodlesC.cooked some of her mother’s favorite dishesD.thought about how to make potato pancakes10.It can be inferred from the passage that the author’s mother_________.A.liked Irish food a lot B.often used the cookbookC.found the ring for her daughter D.actually still lived with the author11.Which of the following can be the best title for the story?A.A Diamond Ring B.Mum’s Turkey SoupC.Heart-shaped Pancakes D.Sad One-year Anniversary12.Why did the author whisper “Thanks, Mom” as she slipped the ring on her hand?____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________(请用约40词回答)(2022·浙江·温州市南浦实验中学二模)About three years ago, something terrible happened to me. That was the day when it took only six hours to break my body and soul. One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands, our boat full of fish. All at once, the sky was covered with dark clouds and in less than a minute we were in a terrible storm: A huge wave covered our boat and my younger brother fell into the sea. My elder brother cried out “Moskoe-strom!” The moment I heard the word I became very frightened. I knew what he meant. With the wind and waves, we were going in the direction of the whirlpool. We were hopeless. Nothing could save us. I felt sick, as if I was falling from a mountain top in a dream. We went round and round, nearer and nearer to the horrible edge of the whirlpool, but at that moment, I felt calmer than when we were moving towards it. I began to think how amazing a thing it was to die in such a way, and how wonderful it was to see the power of nature. Suddenly, we went over the edge. The boat was on the inside of the huge whirlpool and we were going round in circles at great speed I saw clearly that there were other objects in the whirlpool—trees and barrels. After a while, I became curious about the whirlpool itself. I then made three important observations. The first, the larger the bodies were, the more rapidly they fell; the second, between two objects of equal extent, round objects fell down less rapidly, and the third, between two objects of the same size, objects shaped like a tube fell down more slowly. So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. I tried to make my brother understand, but he was too frightened and stayed in the heavy boat. Without waiting, I jumped into the sea to try and escape. As you can see, the reason why I’m here to tell the story is that I made the right decision. Some time after I left the boat, with my brother in it, it was pulled into the bottom of the whirlpool. Soon after that, the whirlpool became less wild. Then the sky was clear, the wind was calmer, and the moon was shining. I wasstill tied to the barrel and the waves soon carried me to an area. Finally, a fishing boat picked me up and I survived the disaster.13.Which is the correct order of the event?①The boat was covered by the strong wave.②I was going round very fast in the whirlpool.③I tied myself to the barrel and got out of the boat.④I felt hopeless near the edge of the whirlpool.A.①③④②B.③④②①C.①④②③D.②④③①14.If the following things are of equal extent, which falls down most slowly in the whirlpool?A.B.C.D.15.The writer wants to tell us humans need to ________.A.be better prepared before a natural disasterB.have a strong will to fight against the natureC.team up with others to deal with difficultiesD.observe the laws of nature to survive a disaster16.What lesson can you learn from the passage? Mrs. Liscom, looking pale and worn, was trying to clear away the breakfast she had hardly tasted. She smiled, and said, “You, Fred, you wash dishes?” “Yes, mother,” replied Fred, “Just try me.”A look of relief came over his mother’s face as she sat in her chair. Fred washed the dishes, and put them in the closet. He then swept the kitchen, kissed his mother goodbye and set out for school. After school, Fred hurried home from school quickly, set the table, and again washed the dishes. He kept on in this way for two weeks, till his mother was able to do her usual work, and he felt quite rewarded when the doctor, who happened in one day, said, “Well, madam, it’s my opinion that you would have been very sick if you had not kept quiet. They turned around and tried to pretend there was nothing out of the ordinary.I was there with my father when the woman arrived. She sat directly across from my dad, smiling at him. He smiled back.I was interested in how he would react to the woman who suddenly got into his space. He was 77 at the time and had been living with Alzheimer’s for several years. When he was healthy, he tolerated people’s strange behaviors, even though he considered it wholly bad mannered. Since Alzheimer’s takes his patience away slowly, I couldn’t help thinking that the woman was playing with fire. Her singing began softly, like a quiet hum. I glanced over at Dad. His smile was gone, and he was staring right at her. She was staring back. I couldn’t read his expression, but it seemed to be something like confusion. This wasn’t an unusual state for him, and I wondered whether he was actually seeing her at all or if he was lost somewhere deep in his mind. Or maybe he was trying to tell whether this was someone he should know. Her singing slowly got louder. By the time she got to “Near, far, wherever you are... ” , this woman was lost deeply in her own singing with eyes closed.I tried not to laugh. Anyway, serious Dad being serenaded in a packed waiting room was just too delicious. Still, I watched if there would be an outburst of anger. Instead, his face softened. DSay you’re sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. "Oh, that game's easy. So not worth the time," one of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd. You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure(同伴压力),also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your “peers”. As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas. We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away &om home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life. /According to Dr. Casey from Cornell University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own Hnd in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry.Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends oftenencourage each other to study, or try out for sports. While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.30.According to the passage, Dr. Casey probably agrees that teens______.A.like to play driving games with their friendsB.prefer situations where they have time to thinkC.may take more risks when their friends are aroundD.are slow in making decisions when they are on their own31.The words “in the heat of the moment" in Paragraph 4 probably mean"______”A.when teens avoid possible risksB.when teens trust their judgmentC.when teens lose control over their angerD.when teens give consideration to situations32.What can we learn from the passage?A.Teens are eager to be different from their peersB.Peer pressure has effects on both teens and adultsC.Peer pressure does more harm than good to teens.D.Teens think it challenging to get good grades at school.33.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.Peer Pressure: Is It Necessary to Deal with It?B.Peer Pressure: Is It Possible to Get Away from It?C.Peer Pressure: Its Benefits to Teens and Friend MakingD.Peer Pressure: Its Influence on Teens and Decision Making .。
