21.(6分)From Antigua to Zanzibar, these spots promise an incredible trip for 2019.
Antigua, Guatemala
“Antigua is worth every penny, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to empty your wallet,” says Hudson. There are plenty of budget-conscious activities. It won’t cost you a coin to visit Santo Domingo del Cerro, an outdoor sculpture park. Wanting something sweet? Head to ChocoMuseo. Admission is free and so are the samples!
Odessa, Ukraine
Odessa is having a bit of a tourism boom nationwide-not that we’re surprised, given its sandy beaches and pastel-colored buildings-but it’s still fairly under the order for international audiences. You can also count on this port city for affordable fun. Tickets to the Odessa Opera House start at a mere $ 2!
Bogotá, Colombia
“Travelers on budget will find Colombia’s vast capital. far more of a bargain and every bit as fascinating,” says Hudson. “It’s free to visit Museo de Oro and on Sundays many of the big roads are closed to accommodate food carts, street entertainers, and pedestrians.”
Zanzibar
Zanzibar attracts vacationers with its white sand beaches, greenish-blue tides, colorful coral reefs, and oceanfront seaside. Of course, wandering in historic Stone Town is pretty appealing too. Either way, you needn’t spend a penny in this amazing place. It’s also worth noting that Jozani Forest is the only place in the world you can see endangered red colobus monkeys.
1、Which of the following requires admission fee?
A.ChocoMuseo. B.Stone Town.
C.Museo de Oro. D.Odessa Opera House.
2、What is special to Zanzibar?
A.White sand beaches. B.Colorful coral reefs.
C.Red colobus monkeys. D.Historic Stone Town.
3、What do the four destinations have in common?
A.They are coastal cities. B.They are inexpensive to visit. C.They welcome street entertainers. D.They will make your wallet empty.
22.(8分)With more large solar farms being developed in the sunny southwestern United States, researchers and conservationists alike are beginning to notice surprising environmental effects. While solar energy is known for its positive environmental impacts, officials at the National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory have come to recognize one of its significant downsides: Some specks of birds that live close to large solar plants (太阳能板) are dying off, including endangered birds.
A recent federal investigation recovered 233 birds that had been killed as a direct result of solar plants. Researchers believe that some of the affected birds have mistaken the large, reflective areas of the solar panels for bodies of water. This is a phenomenon referred to by scientists as “lake effect.” The birds are drawn to what they assume to be water. They aim for the area and slam into the panels with great force. It is thought that the insects that birds cat fall victim to “lake effect” as well, leading the birds into the panels.
Researchers figure that between 1,000 and 28,000 birds are killed as a result of harvesting solar energy. The number of birds affected by wind farming is much greater, ranging from 140,000 to 328,000. Coal-fired electricity has the largest negative effect on birds, killing nearly 8 million a year. These numbers make solar farming seem like the best option. However, conservationists are quick to point out that areas where solar is expected to boom between 2015 and 2020 are home to some of the rarest birds in the United States. This could put specific bird species at risk of extinction.
There exists a state order in California that 20 percent of all electricity of all energy sold should be renewable by the year 2017. This has been one driving force behind the rapid development of huge solar farms. The industry, which is expected to boom as a
result of this change to renewable energy, is facing newly filed lawsuits (起诉) by conservationist groups. These lawsuits could slow down the approval process for the planned solar development across the Southwest.
1、What can we infer from paragraph 1?
A.Solar farms require a long development period.
B.Most people would be shocked by the size of solar farms.
C.Solar energy equipment looks strange to most people.
D.Most people think that solar energy is very beneficial.
2、The underlined word “slam” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to . A.dash B.break
C.move D.slide
3、Which of the following best reflects the author’s viewpoint?
A.Using solar farms is the most practical way to create energy.
B.More birds are endangered by solar farms than wind farming.
C.Solar farms may not be as friendly to the environment as expected.
D.Ways should be found to reduce “lake effect” caused by solar farms.

24.(8分) A new study has discovered that meditation(冥想)and oxygen sport together reduce depression. The Rutgers University study found that this mind and body combination, done twice a week for only two months, reduced the symptoms for a group of students by 40 percent.
“We are excited by the findings because we saw such a meaningful improvement in both clinically depressed and non-depressed students,” said lead author Dr. Brandon
Alderman. “It is the first time that both of these two behavioral ways have been looked at together for dealing with depression.”
Researchers believe the two activities have an interactive effect on combating depression. Alderman and Dr. Tracey Shors discovered that a combination of mental and physical training (MAP) enabled students with major depressive disorder not to let problems or negative thoughts defeat them.
Rutgers researchers say those who participated in the study began with 30 minutes of focused attention meditation followed by 30 minutes of oxygen sport. They were told that if their thoughts drifted to the past or the future they should refocus on their breathing, enabling those with depression to accept moment-to-moment changes in attention.
Shors, who studies the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus—part of the brain involved in memory and learning—says scientists have shown in animal models that oxygen sport exercise keeps a large number of certain cells alive.
The idea for the human intervention(干预)came from her laboratory studies, she says, with the main goal of helping individuals acquire new skills so that they can learn to recover from stressful life events.
By learning to focus their attention and exercise, people who are fighting depression can acquire new learning skills that can help them process information and reduce the overwhelming recollection of memories from the past, Shors says.
“We know these treatments can b e practiced over a lifetime and that they will be effective in improving mental health.” said Alderman. “The good news is that this intervention can be practiced by anyone at any time and at no cost.”
1、What made the research so different?
A.Adopting a way of meaningful talk.
B.Combining the two behavioral ways to treat depression.
C.Treating depression with special medicine.
D.Comparing the depressed with the non-depressed.
2、The underlined word “combating” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by ______. A.fighting B.identifying
C.distinguishing D.examining
3、What did the participants do in the research?
A.They did oxygen sport half an hour before thinking.
B.They thought quietly and then took exercise.
C.They took exercise longer than they thought.
D.They took exercise while thinking quietly.
4、What is Shors’ main purpose of her studies?
A.To find out certain brain cells of humans.
B.To study the production of new brain cells.
C.To offer people a new method to treat stress.
D.To decide the links between stress and exercise.
25.(10分)After nearly half a century behind the wheel, Hisao Matsumoto, 85, is not ready to stop driving. “I’m not that old yet,” he says. “I still have 15 more years to go till I reach 100.” Mr. Matsumoto is one of more than 5 million drivers aged 75 or older. A million more will be on the roads by 2021. Worried, the police are trying to persuade many of them out of driving, because over-75s are twice as likely to cause a fatal accident as younger drivers, according to the National Police Agency (NPA).
Nearly half of older drivers who caused fatal accidents had signs of cognitive impairment (认知障碍). Hundreds of older drivers turn the wrong way into motor ways every year. In January an 85-year-old man steered his vehicle into oncoming traffic on a country road, hitting a car and two schoolgirls. Police believe he mistook the accelerator for the brake. The man’s family said he had rejected their requests to hand over his keys many times.
Such stubbornness is common, notes Kazunori Iwakoshi, who heads an NGO that supports elderly drivers. Many drivers argue that they have never had an accident and it is unfair to do that, so they resent themselves being cast aside.
Since last March over-75s renewing their licenses must take cognitive tests to screen for dementia (老年痴呆). The NPA expects these changes to take 15,000 drivers off the road each year. Last year more than 250,000 over-75s gave up their licenses after their families’ constant stream of persuasion, sa ys Mr. Iwakoshi. His organization publishes a check list for elderly drivers, aimed at getting them to assess their responses themselves.
Mr. Matsumoto is lucky. His city gives pensioners unlimited access to public transport. However, thousands of elderly people are stuck in rural communities with no buses.
1、Why do the police try to persuade elderly drivers to stop driving?
A.To encourage younger drivers to drive safely.
B.To reduce the number of deadly accidents.
C.To introduce the National Police Agency.
D.To stress the significance of safe driving.
2、Which word is closest in meaning to the underlined word “resent” in paragraph 3? A.resemble B.support
C.injure D.dislike
3、What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.Tests to assess elderly drivers’ re sponses.
B.Families’ contributions to traffic safety.
C.Ways to renew licenses for elderly drivers.
D.Measures to control the number of elderly drivers.
4、What is implied about the restriction to elderly drivers in the last paragraph?
A.It can cause some new problems.
B.It is popular among elderly drivers.
C.It will do elderly drivers more harm than good.
D.It brings about easy access to public transport.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29.(25分)阅读下面短文,然后用60个单词左右概括短文的要点。

Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.
In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out
skin and let ills in. A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths. By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 1546. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman should not go out.
Though the belief in the advantage of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18th century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War Ⅱ. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea; clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?
Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist (免疫学家), encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter position is gaining some reason.
