Will Traditional TV Ever Be Replaced by Streaming?
For a long time, people had to listen to the radio to get news, drama, and music at home. This all changed with the development of the television in the early 20th century. 36 Since then, British TV viewers have enjoyed the launch of commercial TV, the addition of Channel 4, and then Channel 5, and finally the birth of paid services through satellite and cable.
A Slow Decline
While the uptake of TV ownership exploded, the decline of television's dominance has been slow and has been going on for the past decade. 37 Streaming services have given us access to more content than was ever possible, including back catalogues of classic shows and blockbuster movies.
Changing Viewing Habits
In the UK, adults are spending more time watching content on YouTube and streaming services than ever before. In 2018, these figures were 30 minutes and 26 minutes per day respectively. 38
Still the King
39 For example, in 2018 UK adults continued to watch BBC One for an average of 41 minutes per day, more than any streaming service.
Average viewing time for all traditional TV channels continues to decline though, despite much larger quantities of original content being produced by these organisations. 40 While the traditional TV networks have seen a decline, the television set itself doesn't look like it's going anywhere any time soon.
A. This has been the trend for the last couple of decades.
B. The original content has included massively popular shows.
C. Suddenly, we were able to see what was going on, not just listen along.
D. The traditional TV channels are taking away audiences from streaming services.
E. Most major TV channels have their own catch up streaming service.
Fe While demand for streaming services is up, TV continues to be the most watched overall. G. Today, we have the power to watch whatever, whenever, wherever we want.

You can run pretty much anywhere, with pretty much no equipment. So it must be easy to start-just put one foot in front of the other, right?
Not quite.
Starting a new training program, like most things, is stepping into unfamiliar area. 36 . Most people start out too hard, which leads to unnecessary tiredness and possible injury; or they just bum out, feeling that the last thing they want to do is go out for another heavy, painful run. Getting past that early period is the key to both running's benefits and pleasures.
37 You may want to start running to make your heart stronger, to up your endurance for other sports, or even just to fit into your tux(晚礼服,)again. Those are all worthy goals and setting them is a valuable aid to getting where you want to go.
If you like a challenge, your goal might be running the local 5K, or something more ambitious, like finishing a Tough Mudder obstacle run or qualifying for the Boston Marathon. A typical beginner who trains properly—without overdoing it — can safely finish a 5K after about three months. 38
Whatever you decide to aim for, committing to it will help your progress greatly. 39 . While a short, easy run a few times a week is better than nothing, it's not nearly as exciting as looking up at — then reaching — the next level.
Then don't get ahead of yourself. 40 . And gradually you can become a good run beginner.
A. Figure out why you're running.
B. The new training program will pay off.
C. And it is possible for a marathon after a year.
D. Otherwise you tend to make no further progress.
E. That is a remarkable achievement for a run beginner.
F. You should resist the urge to run too hard, too much, or too often.
G. You're eager but unsure, excited but potentially easy to make errors.

You probably know that exercise is good for you. Studies show that it can prevent many major health conditions, including cognitive decline, diabetes, certain cancers and more.
36
"Our lives are completely full. We may have children, aging parents, jobs, partners, and community,"says Barbara Hannah Grufferman, author of The Best of Everything After 50.
If you don't have a regular exercise plan, don't worry! There are simple things you can do to get more exercise, no gym membership or hours of commitment required.
Walk-and make it count
Even if you're not in shape, you can likely walk. And that's good news, because many studies illustrate that it's one of the best things we can do for our bodies. Grufferman suggests getting a pedometer(计步器),whether it's a simple mechanical one, or a FitBit or Jawbone. 37 And then, start walking faster and longer-most experts recommend walking 10,000 steps a day.

Run if you can
It might seem out of reach, but if you can add some light running into your daily walk, you'll be better for it. Running can make you happier, strengthen your joints, improve heart health, and improve your memory! 39 Then,go for longer distances gradually.
Make it a habit
To truly make exercise-even the basics-a part of your life you'll need to make it a habit. "The good news is that it's never too late to start," says Grufferman. 40

Americans use many expressions with the word “dog”. People in the United States love their dogs and treat them well. 36 However, dogs without owners to care for them lead a different kind of life. The expression, to lead a dog's life, describes a person who has an unhappy existence.
Some people say we live in a dog-eat-dog world. 37 They say that to be successful, a person has to work like a dog. This means they have to work very, very hard. Such hard work can make people dog-tired. And, the situation would be even worse if they became sick as a dog.
38 This means that every person enjoys a successful period during his or her life. To be successful, people often have to learn new skills. Yet, some people say that you can never teach an old dog new tricks. They believe that older people do not like to learn new things and will not change the way they do things.
39 People who are unkind or uncaring can be described as meaner than a junkyard dog. Junkyard dogs live in places where people throw away things they do not want. Mean dogs are often used to guard this property. They bark or attack people who try to enter the property. However, sometimes a person who appears to be mean and threatening is really not so bad. We say his bark is worse than his bite.
Dog expressions are also used to describe the weather. The dog days of summer are the
hottest days of the year. A rainstorm may cool the weather. But we do not want it to rain too hard.
40
A. Some people are compared to dogs in bad ways.
B. Dogs are people’s loyal friends all the time.
C. Still, people say every dog has its day.
D. They take their dogs for walks, let them play outside and give them nice meals.
E. That means many people are competing for the same things, like good jobs.
F. Sometimes, morning rain can light up the day.
G. We do not want it to rain cats and dogs.
