Millions of Chinese have been playing a mobile game called Travel Frog recently.
You play as the “mother” of a frog who lives alone and enjoys traveling. You need to prepare food and tools for his trips. The frog will send you postcards while he is away.
The game’s popularity may have something to do with how lonely people are these days, according to the Xinhua News Agency. Many players have said that the lonely frog is just like them. But playing with the frog helps them forget their loneliness for a short time.
Loneliness seems to be a common problem today. According to the Guardian, about 40 percent of American adults say they’re lonely. And in the UK, about one in five people in the country are “always or often lonely”, the Telegraph reported.
This might be why the UK government announced the country’s very first“Minister of loneliness”in January. The minister’s job is to find ways to help UK citizens feel less lonely. The minister’s office will provide more mo ney for activities that connect people together.
This loneliness problem may be partly due to social media. When we see pictures of friends having fun or posting selfies(自拍) without us, we may compare their“perfect” lives with our own and feel worse and lonely.
But we should remember that no one is destined to be lonely. As UK poet John Donne once wrote, “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the land, a part of the main.”
Tips to get rid of loneliness
Sing your favorite songs.
Connect with a friend.
Do something creative, such as drawing a picture.
Imagine some place you’d like to visit, like a fun gathering or a sporting event.

B. P repare food and tools for their frog’s trips.

35. According to the story, why is the game so popular?
A. Because it is well-designed.
B. Because it can be played on mobile phones.
C. Because people often feel lonely.
D. Because people have more spare time these days.

A. designed the game Travel Frog

C. held parties for people to get together
D. stopped people’s use of social media
37. What can we infer from John Donne’s words?

D. No one should live alone.

Liquid Paper (修正液) was invented by Bette Nesmith Graham. She was 17 when she got a job at a Texas bank as a secretary, even though she didn’t know how to type. The company she worked for sent her to a secretary school, and she was typing in no time at all.
The 1950s had seen the widespread use of the electric typewriter, which typed faster but also meant more mistakes. Also, mistakes made by early electric typewriters were very hard to erase, which caused problems for Bette.
In order to make extra money she used her talent to paint holiday windows at the bank. Then one day, it suddenly happened to her that she could create a paint to cover up type-writing mistakes.
It worked! In 1956, Bette sold her first bottles of the new product, which she called “Mistake Out”. She made it in her kitchen, and her son Michael and his friends bottled it in the family garage.
By 1957, she was selling 100 bottles a month and had gotten a patent (专利) for her product, which she now called “Liquid Paper”. Sales continued to grow, as more and more people heard about Liquid Paper, through word-of-mouth and by reading about it in magazines.
In the 1960s, Bette bought a machine to help her produce Liquid Paper in large quantities. In 1971, she sold 2 million bottles. In 1979, she sold the company for 47.5 million dollars. She didn’t live to see the end of the contract (合同), dying in 1980, at the age of 56, in Texas.
Bette’s inv ention continues to be used every day by secretaries and other people in the office and wherever typewriters are used.

The Chinese director Feng Xiaogang is not quite the Asian Steven Spielberg, but like the American director, he’s achieved great successes in a number of movies.
His new film Youth based on the novel by Yan Geling, is about a People’s Liberation Army dance troupe (人民解放军歌舞团) in the early 1970s. It’s a film about the youth of our parents’generation (一代).
Set in the 1970s, the story begins in an arts troupe, in which the soldiers’ duties are to sing, dance and promote culture. He Xiaoping is a newcomer and a talented dancer. With a painful childhood, she wants to make a fresh start in the troupe, yet her family’s background makes her the laughing stock among the other girls. The only person who’s nice to her is Liu Feng, a kind and selfless man.
In most youth films, the characters’ life paths are only influenced by their personal choices. However, the young people in Youth are also a part of the “historical change”, as film critic Justin wrote in the Los Angeles Times. In a span (跨度) of more than 30 years, they have to experience a lot. They all have to “make peace with the past and make the most of the present”, wrote reporter Giovanna Fulvi on the website Tiff. Net.
But there’s still something that never changes about youth. No matter what time of history it is, people share the same longing for love and beauty. Sunshine, laughter and swimming pools—these special images of youth are all well kept by Feng in his new film.
According to Ifeng News, Youth is actually a nostalgic (怀旧的) and personal work in which Feng wants to show his own experiences of working in a troupe.
“When I look back in time, everything else in my life seems to be black and white,” he said. “The days in the troupe are the only part of my memory that always remains colorful.”
42. The underlined word “promote” in Paragraph 3 may mean ▲.
A. refuse
B. spread
C. produce
D. accept

C. Feng Xiaogang plays the lead role in the film
D. the film Youth is a black-and-white film

A. Feng Xiaogang wants to share with us his own experiences in a troupe
B. the film shows us what happened during a long period of time
C. some foreigners are also interested in this film
