The reality of autonomous cars may still be a way off, whereas they do seem to be an inevitable factor in our future transport systems. So far, we have already been exposed to partial autonomous driving with autopilot and automatic modes in many new vehicles, which enables cars to park themselves, steer down a motorway, change lanes and adjust speed to oncoming traffic. In my opinion, (despite some slight flaws如果文章出现让步段，可以加上该句话，本文并未写让步段，所以可以去掉), vehicular automation will be a positive development for both individuals and society as a whole.
Once widely implemented, automated driving systems could prevent a sheer number of severe accidents and save countless lives through their ability to reduce the single largest cause of road accidents – human error. A majority of road fatalities are attributed to human errors such as speeding, drink driving and distractions occurring within and outside the vehicle, causing millions of people either killed or fatally injured worldwide annually. By removing manual driving controls from humans, autonomous vehicles would eradicate all fatalities involving human error.
It is also possible for driverless cars to allow for disabled and those less mobile to get around easier and comfortably. There are a great number of people worldwide who have restricted mobility as a result of age or disability, which means with fully automated cars, there will be no need for drivers’ licenses or tests for them, meaning that people who have been considered a driving risk in the past will have access to driving technology without putting themselves or others in danger.
With autonomous cars able to sense other cars around them and communicate with them, bumper to bumper traffic jams should be a thing of the past. Automatic braking
functions will not only prevent nose-to-tail crashes but will also allow driverless cars to travel at consistent distances from one another, which means speed limits will also be increased as the likelihood of vehicles crashing will be greatly reduced.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that automated driving is highly advantageous for both individuals and society.。
