I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. know more about Beijing and Guilin;
2. say something about Beijing or Guilin in their own words;
3. use different reading skills to make the reading process more efficient.
II. Teaching contents

1. To know more about Beijing and Guilin.
2. To use proper expressions to talk about Chinese places.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Free talk
1.Show a map of China ,and ask :
T: Where would you like to go in China if you are free ? What can you see there ? What can you do there ?
Give Ss some time to discuss and choose two Ss to present .
2.I would like to go to Beijing if I am free ,and say out the things I can see and do there , during the process ,learn the new words “landscape” and “wonder”.
Step 2 Presentation
Part of Beijing : Task 1 Skimming
T: Go through the articles as quickly as possible and answer: Who is the guide ?
How many attractions does the writer mention ? What are they ?
Task 2 Scanning
1.Read paragraph 2 ,and answer two questions :
(1)Who used to live there ?
(2)What is the Forbidden City also called?
2. Read paragraph 3-5 ,and answer two questions :
(1)Is Tian’anmen Square the biggest city square in the world ?
(2)How long is the Great Wall ?
Task 3 Read and fill in the blanks
1. Read and fill in the blanks in the form .
T: Pay attention to some key words, such as in the middle of, next to, in the north-west and across northern China
2.Read again and find out what tourists can see and what they can do in these attractions .
Find out the important phrases : enjoy wonderful buildings and art treasures ; watching the raising of the national flag ; enjoy the large Chinese garden set in a natural landscape
