The statue has survived damage caused by time, travelers and the weather. It stood firmly (稳固地)during the Hurricane Sandy in 2012. But Liberty Island suffered damage, requiring major repairs.
“Lady Liberty”,as many people called the statue, was a gift from the people of France. Its full name is “Liberty Enlightening the World”.
The United States and France have been friends since the war. France helped the American colonial armies defeat (击败)British forces. How is everything going? I came in England for an educational exchange last week. Everything here is new for me and I’m suffering from the culture shock. First, it’s hard for me to understand their words totally because they speak very quickly. Second, I really miss the food in my hometown.
