I never had an enemy until Jeremy moved into our neighborhood. He moved here last week and lived next door to my best friend Stanley. I did not like Jeremy. He had a party and he didn't invite me. But he invited my best friend Stanley.
Dad told me that when he was my age, he had enemies too. But he knew of a way to make them go away. “The Enemy Pie,” he said.
Dad made the pie for me. It smelled really good, and it looked good enough to eat. “What exactly does it do to enemies? Can it make their hair fall out?” I asked.
D ad said, “In order for it to work, you need to spend a day with your enemy. Even worse, you have to be nice to him. It's not easy. But that's the only way that the enemy pie can work. Are you sure you want to do this?” Of course I was.
I rode my bike to J eremy’s house and knocked at the door. When Jeremy opened the door, he seemed surprised.
I invited him to come out and play. We rode bikes for a while. And then ate lunch together. After lunch, we went over to my house. It was strange but I was having fun with enemy.
We played games until my dad called us for dinner. Dad had made my favorite food. It was Jeremy's favorite too. Maybe the enemy wasn't so bad after all. When dad took out the enemy pie I didn't want Jeremy to have it! “Don't worry,” dad said. “Now it has become a friend pie!

Disasters happen all the time somewhere in the world. Are you ready if one hits your neighborhood next week? Find out what you need to do now before it is too late. Let’s take an earthquake for example.
During an earthquake, get under a strong object like the kitchen table. Don’t leav e the building during the shaking, or you might be hurt by falling objects from the outside of the building.
When you are in bed during the night and an earthquake happens, simply roll off the bed. There will be a safe void around the bed.
If you are watching TV and you cannot easily run away by getting out through the door or window, then lie down and curl up(蜷伏) next to a sofa, or a large chair.
Never go to the stairs. The stairs are likely part of the building to be broken. Even if the stairs are not destroyed by the earthquake, they may fall down later when people run down.
Try to get into an open area away from trees, buildings, walls, advertisement boards and power lines if you are outdoors.
If you are driving when an earthquake suddenly happens, just stay in your car until the shaking ends. However, if the footbridge falls and breaks your car,get out of it and sit or lie next to it. All the broken cars have voids 3 feet high next to it.
47. What should you do if you are in a building when an earthquake happens?

VII.任务型阅读:阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。

(共5小题,计10分) Wild ducks often fly in a V shape when they travel in groups. It's a pretty common sight.
But why do they do this, is there a scientific reason behind it?
There are actually a few reasons for such a flying way. The first is that it helps ducks to save energy during long migrations(迁徙). Except the duck leading the group, each bird traveling behind the other meets less wind resistance(阻碍). It's why the best driver usually drives close behind the one in front of him during the driving competition.
The next time you see wild ducks flying in a V, watch them for a bit to see if the birds of-ten change positions. When the first bird feels tired, they will change their places. The leader will drop back-usually all the way back, and a rested duck will come to the front. While there is no single, unchanging leader for a V of birds on the move, it is the oldest, experienced birds that can use the sun and the stars at night to lead themselves to the right direction.
The second reason for birds to fly in this way is that it is helpful for the birds to communicate more easily. Because the birds can see each other to keep the group together. This communication keeps the group together and prevent from losing birds along the way.
