Dear Lily,
How are you? I'm so excited to tell you all about my city! I live in a big, bustling place called Shanghai. It's one of the biggest cities in China and probably one of the biggest in the whole world! There are over 24 million people living here. Can you imagine? That's like having 24 Disney Worlds all squished together!
The first thing you'd notice about Shanghai is how tall all the buildings are. We have so many skyscrapers here, it looks like a forest made out of glass and steel instead of trees. At night, they're all lit up in different colors - pinks, blues, greens, yellows. It's like the whole city is having a dance party! The tallest building is called the Shanghai Tower. It has 128 floors and is over 2,000 feet tall! That's almost as tall as four Burj Khalifas stacked on top of each other. Isn't that crazy?
Shanghai is right on the coast, so it has this huge, twisty river called the Huangpu running through the middle of it. There are
so many bridges crisscrossing over the water. Some are old and classic looking, while others are modern and funky shaped. My favorite is the Nanpu Bridge because it's bright blue and has awesome skylights that make it glow at night. You can take a boat tour along the river and see the whole city from the water. It's beautiful!
Of course, Shanghai has tons of incredible places to visit too. There's the Bund, which is this long waterfront area with grand old European-style buildings. It's right across the river from the skyscraper district, so the view is stunning. The Yu Gardens are these ancient gardens and temples surrounded by bizarre zigzag bridges and colorful walls. It's like being transported back in time! And then there are the modern attractions like the Shanghai Museum, with its spiral ramp design, and the Shanghai Circus World, where you can see amazing acrobatic shows.
One thing I love about Shanghai is how it mixes the traditional with the brand new. You'll see old ladies sweeping the sidewalks with bamboo brooms while people hustle by talking on their smartphones. There are little hole-in-the-wall dumpling shops nestled between towering shopping malls. Street food vendors selling steaming soup dumplings share the street with
fancy restaurants serving molecular gastronomy dishes. It's a big jumble of old and new, East and West, all mashed together.
And the food...oh my god, the food here is AMAZING! We have everything from humble noodle joints to extravagant Michelin-starred restaurants. You've got to try xiaolongbao (those awesome soup dumplings I mentioned), shengjianbao (pan-fried buns), jianbing (crispy crepes with eggs and veggies), and gualaguan (sweet deep-fried dough twists). The street food scene is mind-blowing too - you can get skewered scorpions, stinky tofu, candied strawberries, quail eggs...you name it!
I could go on and on about Shanghai's incredible skylines, vibrant neighborhoods, bustling streets, and melting pot culture. But I think you get the idea - it's a fascinating, fast-paced, larger-than-life city. Nowhere else combines tradition and modernity quite like Shanghai.
You've got to come visit sometime, Lily! I'll show you all the coolest spots and we can stuff ourselves silly with dumplings and noodles. Just don't forget to pack some comfy walking shoes, because this is a city that requires a ton of exploring on foot!
Talk to you soon,

Dear Foreign Friend,
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming, and I'm a 10-year-old boy from the amazing city of Yingyu. I'm so excited to tell you all about my hometown because it's such a special place. Get ready for an adventure!
Yingyu is a bustling metropolis located in the heart of our country. It's a city that never sleeps, with tall skyscrapers reaching for the clouds and busy streets filled with people going about their daily lives. But don't worry, it's not all concrete and chaos. We have plenty of beautiful parks and green spaces where you can escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy nature.
One of my favorite places in Yingyu is the Old Town. It's like stepping back in time! The streets are lined with traditional buildings, each one more colorful and intricate than the next. You'll find all sorts of fascinating shops and restaurants tucked away in the winding alleys. My favorite is a little dumpling shop run by an old couple who makes the most delicious dumplings you've ever tasted. Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
If you're a history buff, you'll love the Yingyu Museum. It's huge and has all kinds of cool exhibits about our city's past. From ancient artifacts to interactive displays, you can learn so much about how Yingyu grew from a small village into the thriving metropolis it is today. My favorite part is the dinosaur exhibit –they even have a real fossil of a dinosaur that used to roam our lands millions of years ago!
For those who love the great outdoors, Yingyu has plenty to offer. Just outside the city limits, you'll find breathtaking mountains and forests perfect for hiking, camping, and exploring. One of my most cherished memories is when my family and I went on a camping trip to Misty Lake. We spent the weekend fishing, telling stories around the campfire, and gazing up at the star-filled sky. It was magical!
Of course, no city would be complete without its cultural attractions. Yingyu is home to some of the most impressive theaters and concert halls in the country. Whether you're into classical music, modern dance, or experimental performance art, there's always something exciting happening. My favorite is the annual Yingyu Arts Festival, where artists from all over the world come to showcase their talents.
But perhaps the best part of Yingyu is the people. We're a friendly and welcoming bunch, always ready to share a smile or lend a helping hand. From the cheerful shopkeepers to the hardworking office workers, everyone contributes to the vibrant energy that makes our city so special.
I could go on and on about all the wonderful things Yingyu has to offer, but I think you get the idea. It's a truly amazing place, and I feel so lucky to call it home. I hope you'll have the chance to visit one day and experience the magic for yourself.
Well, that's about all for now. I can't wait to hear back from you and learn all about your hometown. Until then, take care and keep exploring!
Your friend,
Xiaoming

Here's a letter to a foreign friend introducing a city, written from the perspective of an elementary school student, in English, with a length of around 2000 words.
Dear John,
How are you doing? I hope you and your family are all well. I'm writing to tell you about my amazing city, Greenville. It's a fantastic place, and I can't wait to share all the exciting things about it with you!
Greenville is a big, bustling city with tall buildings that seem to touch the sky. But don't worry, it's not just a concrete jungle. We have lots of parks and green spaces too, which is why it's called Greenville. My favorite is Central Park, where you can find beautiful gardens, playgrounds, and even a little lake where you can go boating.
Speaking of lakes, we have a huge one right in the heart of the city called Lake Greenville. It's so big that you can't even see the other side! People love to go swimming, fishing, and having picnics by the lake, especially during the summer. There's also a boardwalk along the shore where you can go for a nice stroll or grab some delicious ice cream.
One of the coolest things about Greenville is all the different neighborhoods. Each one has its own unique vibe and exciting things to do. Downtown is the heart of the city, with tall skyscrapers, fancy restaurants, and lots of shops. It's always bustling with people and full of energy. My favorite part is the outdoor market where you can find all sorts of cool stuff like
handmade jewelry, fresh fruits and veggies, and even live music performances.
Then there's the historic district, which is like stepping back in time. The buildings are all old and have beautiful architecture from hundreds of years ago. There are also lots of museums and art galleries where you can learn about the city's rich history and culture.
But my absolute favorite neighborhood is the one I live in –Riverdale. It's a quiet, suburban area with lots of parks, playgrounds, and tree-lined streets. Our house has a big backyard where I love to play with my friends and my dog, Rufus. We have the best ice cream shop in the whole city too, called Scoop's. They have so many flavors, it's hard to choose!
Greenville is also famous for its amazing food. We have restaurants from all over the world, so you can try dishes from places like Italy, Mexico, India, and China. One of my favorite spots is a little hole-in-the-wall taco place called El Taquito. Their tacos are out of this world! For dessert, you have to try the chocolate cake at Betty's Bakery. It's so rich and delicious, it'll blow your mind.
Of course, no city would be complete without awesome attractions and events. One of the coolest things we have is the
Greenville Science Museum. They have all sorts of interactive exhibits where you can learn about things like dinosaurs, outer space, and even how your body works. It's so much fun, and you learn a ton too.
Every summer, we also have a huge festival called Greenville Fest. There are rides, games, live music, and more food than you can imagine. My favorite part is the fireworks show at the end. It's an explosion of colors in the night sky that's simply breathtaking.
Greenville is also a great place for sports fans. We have teams for pretty much every sport you can think of – football, baseball, basketball, hockey, you name it. My favorite is the Greenville Grizzlies, our baseball team. Going to their games is always a blast, with lots of cheering, singing, and eating hot dogs and popcorn.
I could go on and on about all the amazing things in my city, but I think you get the idea. Greenville is a vibrant, exciting place with something for everyone. Whether you're into arts and culture, food, sports, or just hanging out in the great outdoors, you'll find plenty to keep you entertained.
I really hope you and your family can come visit sometime soon. I'd love to show you around and introduce you to all my
favorite spots. Maybe we could even catch a Grizzlies game together!
Well, that's all for now. I can't wait to hear back from you and learn about your city too. Take care, and happy exploring!
Your friend,
[Your Name]。
