My Unforgettable Trip to Beijing
This past summer, I got to go on the most amazing trip with my parents - we went to Beijing, the capital of China! I had been looking forward to this vacation for months and it ended up being even better than I imagined. Let me tell you all about the incredible sights, fascinating culture, and delicious food I experienced in this remarkable city.
Our journey began with a long flight from America all the way to Beijing Capital International Airport. Even though it was tiring being on a plane for so many hours, I could barely contain my excitement as we descended and I caught my first glimpses of Beijing through the window. The first thing that struck me was the sprawling size of the city - it seemed to go on forever in every direction with buildings and roads as far as the eye could see.
After retrieving our luggage and going through customs, we met up with a tour guide named Mei-Ling who would be
showing us around for the next week. She was so friendly and knowledgeable about Beijing's history and culture. Our first stop was at our hotel right in the heart of downtown where we'd be staying. I loved how modern and sleek it was compared to the hotels back home.
The next morning bright and early, we headed to one of the most famous sites not just in Beijing but in all of China - the Forbidden City. I had learned about this incredible palace complex in school but nothing could have prepared me for how magnificent it was in person. The scale of it was mind-boggling with what felt like hundreds of beautifully decorated buildings and gates connected by sprawling courtyards and gardens. Our tour guide Mei-Ling regaled us with fascinating stories about the emperors and their families who had lived there over the centuries. We spent half a day wandering around in awe, feeling like we had stepped back in time.
The following day was one I had been desperately looking forward to - a visit to the Great Wall of China! We took a bus ride about an hour outside of Beijing and I could barely sit still with anticipation. When we finally arrived at the section of the Great Wall we would be exploring, I was stunned into silence. There it was - one of the true wonders of the ancient world, snaking over
the mountainous terrain as far as I could see in both directions. The view was breathtaking. We started our hike up the steep steps which proved to be quite a workout, but I didn't care one bit. I was actually walking along this iconic 2,000 year old structure! Every few minutes I had to stop just to take it all in. On our descent, we saw some fun souvenirs being sold by local vendors and my parents let me pick out a little ceramic warrior figurine to remember the day.
Another morning we got up at the crack of dawn and made our way to Tiananmen Square. This was another site I had learned about but seeing it in person was incredible. The square itself is one of the largest public plazas in the world and walking across its vast open space was a daunting experience with the arches and monuments towering all around. Mei-Ling told us many stories about the significance of this square in China's history. We then went inside the Forbidden City once more to tour some of the halls and exhibits we didn't get to see on our first visit.
Of course, no trip to Beijing would be complete without trying as much of the local cuisine as possible! While I'm a pretty picky eater back home, I made an effort to be adventurous and sample all sorts of new flavors. We had dumplings and noodle
dishes, hot pot (which was my favorite with all the different broths and sauces to cook your ingredients in), and even some more exotic things like century eggs and chicken feet which were a bit too weird for my tastes. But the food was just out of this world - so fresh and bursting with flavors I had never experienced before. I also got to sample some interesting drinks like sour plum juice and warm soybean milk. My parents joked that by the end of the trip I was going to turn into a little Beijing snack.
We also got to experience a night at the Beijing opera, which was quite the cultural experience. The singing was like nothing I had ever heard, with very high-pitched theatrical voices. The intricate costumes and makeup were incredible crafted and we learned about the symbolism and meaning of all the different styles used. While I'll admit my restless kid brain had a hard time sitting through the entire three hour performance, it gave me a newfound appreciation for this ancient art form that has been part of Chinese culture for centuries.
On our final night in Beijing, we took an exhilarating ride

My Amazing Trip to Beijing
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to tell you all about my incredible trip to Beijing over the spring break. My parents surprised me by saying we were going to visit the capital of China, and I could hardly contain my enthusiasm! I had learned about Beijing in my history and geography classes, but being able to see it in person was a dream come true.
The first stop on our adventure was the Forbidden City. As we approached the massive grounds, I was in awe of the grand architecture and vibrant colors. Our tour guide explained that this was the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Can you believe it was built in 1406 and wasn't opened to the public until 1925?
Walking through the Outer Court, I marveled at the intricate details carved into the wooden pillars and the glazed tiles on the roofs. Everything seemed so majestic and regal. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the emperors who lived there and all the ceremonies that took place within those walls. I felt like I had traveled back in time!
The Forbidden City was absolutely massive, with 9,999 rooms! My favorite part was the Imperial Garden with its elaborate rockeries, pavilions and the gorgeous Kunming Lake. I
could have spent hours exploring every nook and cranny of that serene oasis in the heart of Beijing.
The next day, we visited Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Talk about huge! Our guide mentioned it can hold over a million people. I have never seen such an immense open space surrounded by impressive buildings and monuments. The most striking was definitely the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong with its grand granite structure and ceramic portrait of the former leader.
Crossing through the Gate of Heavenly Peace brought us to the Imperial Palace and Temple of Heaven, another magnificent site. The blue-tiled cone-shaped temples were breathtaking against the bright sky. I learned they were built in the 1400s for annual ceremonies and rituals performed by the emperors. Walking in the parklands around the temples was so peaceful and serene.
One of the biggest highlights was our visit to the Great Wall of China! I couldn't wait to climb this iconic landmark that I had only seen in pictures. The winding stone pathways up the steep hills were challenging, but the incredible views made it all worthwhile. From the watchtowers, you could see the Wall twisting through the mountains as far as the eye could see. It was
mind-blowing to think this massive fortification was built over 2,000 years ago, by nearly one million workers. No wonder it's considered one of the greatest wonders of the world!
Hiking along the Great Wall was an unforgettable experience. The crumbling ramparts, lookout towers and all the historical relics really brought the ancient past to life. Our guide's stories about the wars, invasions and sacrifices that took place there gave me a profound appreciation for China's rich heritage.
Speaking of heritage, no trip to Beijing would be complete without trying the amazing cuisine! We ate at tiny
hole-in-the-wall restaurants as well as fancier palace-style places. Everything was absolutely delicious, from the classic Peking duck and noodle dishes to the unique street foods. I loved the candied strawberries, caramelized sweet potatoes, meat pastries and fried sesame balls. My taste buds were doing a happy dance with every bite of those savory and sugary treats.
We also got to experience some traditional Chinese cultural performances like an acrobatics show and Peking Opera. The vibrant costumes, music and incredible athletic feats left me stunned. I have so much respect for the intense training and discipline it takes to master those arts. It was a mesmerizing glimpse into China's ancient traditions.
On our final day in Beijing, we wandered through the lively Wangfujing Street market. The sights, sounds and smells were an absolute sensory overload! Vendors selling everything from quirky keychains and t-shirts to fresh seafood, candies and roasted meats on skewers. I practiced my bargaining skills (with some help from my parents) and picked up lots of neat souvenirs for my friends and family back home.
This trip to Beijing was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Visiting those iconic landmarks that I had only read about really brought history to life in a tangible way. More than just seeing the sights though, I truly absorbed the rich culture, mouthwatering cuisine and warm hospitality of the people. Beijing left an indelible impression on my heart that will stay with me forever.
I'm so grateful to my parents for this incredible adventure, and can't wait to put everything I learned into my school projects. Beijing - what an amazing, ancient and modern city rolled into one! If you ever get the chance to travel there, take it! You'll come home with your eyes opened to a fascinating world.

My Awesome Trip to Beijing!
Wow, where do I even start? My family's trip to Beijing this past summer was just incredible. I had been looking forward to it for months and months, and it ended up being even better than I imagined!
We took the high-speed train from Shanghai, which was a really cool experience in itself. The train went so fast - over 300 km/hr! I loved watching the countryside whiz by through the window. It took us only about 4.5 hours to get to Beijing, which seems crazy when you think about how far apart those two cities are.
As soon as we arrived at Beijing West Railway Station, I could tell this city was going to be different than anywhere else I'd been before. It's just massive - the biggest city in China with over 21 million people! The station itself was huge and modern looking, with giant glass walls and ceilings. And there were people everywhere, all hurriedly walking in different directions with their suitcases.
We took a taxi to our hotel, which was located just off of Wangfujing Street, one of the most famous shopping areas in Beijing. I'll never forget my first glimpse out the taxi window of the Forbidden City - that iconic palace with the bright yellow
tiled roofs. It looked just like in the pictures, except even grander and more spectacular in person. I couldn't wait to go explore it.
After settling into our hotel, we headed straight for Tiananmen Square. I had learned all about this famous plaza in my history classes, but actually being there was surreal. The square itself is absolutely enormous - big enough to park over 700 vehicles! There were tour groups everywhere taking pictures in front of the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the main entrance to the Forbidden City.
Speaking of the Forbidden City, that was definitely one of the highlights of the whole trip. We spent nearly an entire day wandering through the various temples, palaces, gardens, and throne rooms. Everything was built on such a massive scale and with the most intricate details. I couldn't believe how big it was - spread out over 180 acres with 9,999 rooms! My favorite part was definitely the Treasure Gallery filled with amazing jade sculptures and ceramics from past dynasties.
Another can't-miss sight in Beijing is the Great Wall. On our day trip out to the Mutianyu section, I just remember being blown away by how immense it was, snaking over mountain ridges as far as the eye could see. The watch towers and crenellated walls looked just as formidable as they must have
centuries ago. It was such a thrill to finally set foot on this incredible world wonder that I had read so much about. Even though it was a super hot summer day, my friends and I had a blast hiking along the wall and taking goofy pictures. Definitely a memory I'll never forget!
Besides all the historic sites, we also got to experience some other fun and unique things in Beijing. One afternoon we wandered through the old hutong neighborhood alleys, which felt like stepping back in time. There were little courtyard homes, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and friendly locals going about their day. We even attended a traditional tea ceremony at one of the hutongs. It was incredibly peaceful sipping different exotic teas while watching the tea master's intricate brewing methods.
Another evening we caught an amazing acrobatic show at the Chaoyang Theatre. I've never seen such jaw-dropping feats of balance, strength and flexibility! There were contortionists folding themselves into impossible positions, plate spinners keeping dozens of plates simultaneously spinning on poles, and high-flying trapeze artists performing heart-stopping stunts. The grand finale was this huge bowling ball act where they rolled giant bowling balls attached to chains just inches away from each other - insane!
Of course, you can't go to Beijing without sampling some delicious local cuisine. We ate so much amazing food - dumplings, noodles, roast duck, hot pot, and more. One of my favorite meals was from a little hole-in-the-wall joint specializing in donkey burgers and donkey sandwiches. I know it may sound a little strange, but the seasoned donkey meat was so tender and delicious! We also hit up Wangfujing Snack Street one night, which was basically an entire pedestrian street lined with food stalls selling all types of crazy snacks and street food. I tried everything from spicy rabbit head to candied strawberries to fried scorpions on a stick!
I could keep going on and on about our amazing Beijing adventures, but I'll stop here. Let's just say it was the trip of a lifetime filled with incredible sights, activities, food, and experiences. Beijing is such a fascinating city blending the modern and ancient in one vibrant, bustling metropolis. I had the time of my life exploring this epic capital with my family. I know we all came home with so many unforgettable memories that will last forever. Beijing, I'll definitely be back someday!。
