Yuan Longping, known as the Father of Hybrid Rice, was born in Beijing in 1930. He traced his ancestral roots to Dean, Jiangxi. After completing his education at Southwest Agriculture College, he became a teacher at Anjiang Agriculture College. In 1964, he married Deng Zhe. Yuan's illustrious career includes being an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center, and Chief Adviser to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
