Module 4 Unit 12 Visiting Britain 说课稿Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,I'm greatly honored to have the opportunity to share my teaching ideas with you. My,module 4. My presentation consists of 5topic is “Visiting Britain” taken from Unit12parts: The Analysis of Teaching Material; Teaching Objectives; Important and Difficult Points; Teaching and Learning Methods and Teaching Procedures.Part1: The Analysis of the Teaching Materiale students toThis unit is about Culture Shock. By studying this unit, we’ll enable thknow the difference between Chinese culture and English culture, which is verylearning English and understanding some strange rules in beneficial to our students’their conversation. And this lesson is the first lesson of this unit, which takes the formof the letter from Xiaojin to Aunt Mei to introduce the difference between the two cultures. Every aspect of the difference is very important to students’understanding ofthe English culture exactly. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. If the Ss can learn this lesson well, it will be helpful to make theSs learn the rest of this unit.Part 2: Teaching objectives:Knowledge and skills:Students come to know some typical and famous buildings, figures and the location of London.Students learn to guess the new words according to the content.Students get to know the culture shock between China and England from 4 aspects. Students acquire right information to answer the questions and fill out the table.Ability objectives:Meanwhile, students will be encouraged to express their own opinions using the language they have learned in the class and in the process their ability will be cultivated to cooperate with others.Emotion and Attitude:Students develop the right attitude towards culture shock: when in Rome, do as Romans do. There is no good or bad among various cultures and we should keep the variety of cultures.Part 3: Important points & difficult points:The important point: Students learn to guess the meaning of new words and try to get4 kinds of different culture shocks. But how to use these 4 different culture shocks to make the dialogue is the real difficult point.Teaching and learning methods:background information about Britain1. Brainstorming activates the students’ quickly.2. Situational approach enables the students to guess the words easily.3. Task-based teaching method enables the students to read and learn more efficientlyand with more curiosity.interest, curiosity and desire for4. Multi-media assistance arouses the students’ learning.Part 4 Teaching procedures:According to the teaching aims, I divide the teaching procedures into 4 steps, that is warming-up, pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading.Step1 Warming-up (It includes 2 tasks)Task 1 students will challenge themselves to see how many pictures they can remember in a short time about Britain. They are Oxford University, The Queen, Harry Potter, Buckingham Palace, London Tower Bridge, Beckham, and the Union Flag.(The main purpose of warming-up part is to arouse students’ interest towards the topic of this lesson.Task 2: students will be informed of the general knowledge about London, where Xiao Jin, the writer of the text, stays. The knowledge includes the location, function, the important position in England and in the world, ect. After acquiring the common sense about it, students will volunteer to have a brief introduction about it accordingto what they just get to test whether they have really know this city.(When we refer to a city, we always want to get more background information about it, especially students at this age, they are eager to know everything. So after this step students will read the text, happy and interested.)Step II: pre-reading (including 2 tasks)Task 1: guessing the wordsIn this step students will guess the words according to the picture and the sentences given. And after this, a short text will be presented to sum up.(They are many new words in the text, which causes too much difficulty and misunderstanding of the text. So here I design this step to solve this problem. In the process, students will try to guess the meaning of the words according to the content, including sentences and pictures. And also guessing the meaning of the new words is a very important ability that is tested in the college entrance examination. So this step is designed to train them this kind of ability. )Task2: Here I will ask students a question: what do you expect of London? And they will have 1 minute to discuss it with their partners, and then the result of the discussion will be collected on the blackboard. After this a concept will be offered, that is culture. All they said is part of culture.(The title of this unit is Culture Shock. With this discussion, students will have a concrete concept about culture and in turn have a better understanding of Culture shock. And this step works as a lead-in of next step.)Step 3: While-reading (including 3 tasks)Task1: SkimmingAfter the task above, students will read the text quickly to find out the different culture shocks mentioned in the letter. They are food, tipping system, weather and traveling, and sense of humor.(Through this task, students will come to know the differences between Chinese culture and English culture from 4 aspects in 5 paragraphs. This step can also be usedto train students’ ability of getting the main idea in a short time.)Task 2: Students listen to the tape about paragraph 1and 2 and answer the questions related.1. What is XiaoJin’s shock?Culture shock sth new and different from home2. What has Xiao Jin been busy doing? … absorb …3. What is the purpose of writing this letter? The purpose of writing this letter is to tell Aunt Mei who is going to visit London what she expects to find.(This step is designed to tell students what culture shock is and train s tudents’ability to find the detailed information and enable students to get familiar with the content of the text.)Task3: Listen to the tape about paragraph 3 to 6 to finish the table. While doing, two students will work together to cooperate with each other.problems suggestionsfood get used to _______________for breakfasttips (money) check…leave ______of the bill…exchange_________________accommodations stay…take…humor don’t be __________ if…(Reading to find the needy information to fill out the table is a good way to train their reading skills of skimming and get them trained to have enough ability of doing the task- based reading comprehension in the exam.)Step 4: Post-readingTwo students a group to discuss and make up a dialogue between Aunt Mei and her friend Aunt Lee who is preparing her travel to Britain. She hopes Aunt Mei can give her some suggestions. Please try to offer the suggestions as many as possible. The dialogue begins like this:Lee: Hello, Mei. I am planning a travel to Britain. Can you give me some suggestions?Mei: Yeah. What do you want to know?Lee:…Mei:…(This step can not only consolidate what students have learned in the text, but also can practise their speaking, and while doing , two students have to cooperate with each other, this is also a step to train their teamwork spirit. It can also achieve the goal that to learn is to use.)Step 5.Homework:1. Remember the words and expressions we have learned today.2 Write a letter to introduce the difference between English culture and Chinese culture.(Homework is a natural strengthening part of the lesson. And students have learnt the culture shock between China and England, so they will take this step to review the content of the text after class and consolidate what they have learnt. )Step6. Where is Great Britain?
Is Great Britain the same as Britain?
Sometimes people use the shorten name Britain instead of Great Britain, to mean the same thing, but really Britain only refers to England and Wales. The name Britain goes back to Roman times when they called England and Wales “Britannia”. The Roman province of Britannia only covered the areas of modern England and Wales. The area of modern Scotland was never finally conquered.
