They can do many things al the fair. They can watching the judging of the price cows, pigs, and other animals; they can see sheep getting their wool cut, and they can learn how that wool is made into clothing; they can watch cows giving birth. In fact, people can learn about the animals they would see except at the fair. The fair provides a chance for the famp3ing communities to show its skills and famp3ing products. For example, visitors might see the world' s largest apple, or the tallest sunflower plant. Today, children and adults at the fair can play new computer games, or attend more traditional games of skill. They can watchperfomp3ances perfomp3ed by famous entertainers. Expertssay such fairs are important, because people need to remember that they' re connected to the earth and its products, and they depend on animals for many things.33. What were the main goals of the Indiana' s state fair when it started?34. How did some famp3ers gain the entrance to the fair in the early 1930's?35. Why state fairs are important events in the America?复合式听写原文Students' pressure sometimes comes from their parents. Most parents are well meaning, but some of them aren' i very helpful with the problems their sons and daughters have in adjusting to college. And a few of them seem to go out of their way to add to their children' s difficulties. For one thing, parents are often not aware of the kinds of problems their children face. They don' t realize that the competition is keener, that the required standards of work are higher, and that their children may not be prepared for the change. Accustomed to seeing A' sandB' s on the high school report cards, they may be upset when their children' s first semester college grades are below that level. At their kindest, they may gently inquire why John or Mary isn' t doing better, whether he or she is trying as hard as he or she should, and so on. At their worst, they may threaten to take their children out of college, or cut off funds. Sometimes parents regard their children as extensions of themselves, and think it only right and natural that they determine what their children do with their lives. In their involvement and identification with their children, they forget that everyone is different, and that each person must develop in his or her own way. They forget that their children, who are now young adults, must be the onesresponsible for what they do and what they are.大学英语四级听力07年试卷试题Part III Listing Comprehension (35 minutes)Section ADirections: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. You should decide on the best choice andmark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.Passage1 Questions 31 to 35 are based on the following passage:Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are abook-lover or only there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to find shelter from a sudden shower. Whatever the reason, you can soon become totally unaware of your surroundings. The desire to pick up a book with an attractive design is irresistible, although this method of selection ought not to be followed, as you might end up with a rather uninteresting book. You soon become lost in some book or other, and usually it is only much later that you realise you have spent far too much time there and must hurry to keep some forgotten appointment --without buying a book, of course. This opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is, I think, the main attraction of a bookshop. There are not many places where it is possible to do this. A music shop is very much like a bookshop. You can go to such places as much as you wish. If it is a good shop, no assistant will approach you with the greeting:"Can I help you, sir?" You needn't buy anything you don't want. In a bookshop, an assistant should remain in the background until you have finished reading. You may want to find out where a particular section is. Then, and only then, are his services necessary. But when he has led you there, the assistant should leave politely and look as if he is not interested in selling a single book.31. The best title for this passage may be.A. The Attraction of BookshopsB. How To Spend Your TimeC. Bookshops and Their assistantsD. Buying Books32. According to the author, the best way to escape the realities of everyday life is.A. to chat with assistants in a bookshopB. to take a walk in the streetsC. to make some appointment in a bookshopD. to stay reading books of various kinds in a bookshop33. In a good bookshop,______.A.all the books there are interestingB.you are satisfiedC.you can find shelter from a showerD.you need to buy something you don’t want34.An assistant in a bookshop helps you_____.A.on your entering the shopB.just before you finish readingC.only when you want to find out where q particular section isD.when you are reading35.According to the passage, which of the following statements is true?A.Time spent in a bookshop can be enjoyable only for book-lovers.B.There are only a few places where it is possible to escape the realities of life.C.People go to bookshops only to buy books.D.A book with an attractive design must be an interesting one.Passage 2 Questions 36 to 40 are based on the following passage:In the second half of each year, many powerful storms are born in the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean seas.(of these, only about half a dozen generate the strong, circling winds of 75miles per hour or more that give them hurricane(飓风) status, and several usually make their way to the coast.) There they cause millions of dollars of damage, and bring death to large numbers of people. The great storms that hit the coast start as innocent circling disturbances hundreds——even thousands——of miles out to sea. As they travel aimlessly over water warmed by the summer sun, they are carried westward by the trade winds. When conditions are just right, warm, moist air flows in at the bottom of such a disturbance, moves upward it and comes out at the top. In the process, the moisture in this warm air produces rain, and with it the heat that is converted to energy in the form of strong winds. As the heat increases the young hurricane begins to turn in a counter-clockwise motion. The average life of a hurricane is only about nine days, but it contains almost more power than we can imagine. The energy in the heat released by a hurricane’s rainfall in a single day would satisfy the entire electrical needs of the United States for more than six months. Water, not wind, is the main source of death and destruction in a hurricane. A typical hurricane brings 6 to 12-inch downpours resulting in sudden floods. Worst of all is the powerful movement of the sea——the mountains of water moving toward thelow-pressure hurricane center. The water level rises as much as 15 feet above normal as it moves toward shore.36.When is a storm considered to be a hurricane?A.When it is accompanied by wind.B.When it is accompanied by both wind and rain.C.When its circling winds move at 75 miles per hour or even more.D.When the circling winds bring damages.37.The underlined “innocent aircling disturbances” in Paragraph 2 meansA.innocent people causing small disturbances.B.innocent people causing big disturbancesC.damaging circling windsD.harmless circling winds.38.The underlined “it” in “moves upward through it “ in Paragraph2 refers toA. a disturbanceB.moist airC.trade windD. water39.Srong winds are produced becaused ofA.the young hurricaneB. the heat generated along with rainC.a disturbanceD.moist air40.Which of the following best summarizes the passage?A.The Hurricane – its harms and benefitsB.The origin and effects of hurricaneC.The hurricane and its great energyD.The disasters caused by hurricanesPassage 3 Trees are useful to man in three very important ways:they procide him with wood and other products;they give him shade; and they help to prevent droughts and floods. Unfortunaterly, in many parts of the world, man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important. In his eagemess to draw quick profit from the trees, he has cut them down in large numbers ,only to find that without them he has lost the best friends he had. Two thousand years ago a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build warships, with which to gain itself an empire.(I gained the empire but, without its tree, its soil became hard and poor. When the empire fell to pieces, the home country found itself faced by floods and starvation.) Even though a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees, it is difficult for it to persuade the cillager to see this. The villager wants wood to cook his food with;and he can earn money by making charcoal or selling wood to the townsman. He is usually too lazy or too careless to plant and look after new trees. So, unless the govermment has a good system of control,or can deucate the people, the forests will slowly disappear. This does not only mean that the villagers’ sons and grandsons have fewer trees. The results are even more serious: for where there are trees their roots break thesoil up------allowing the rain to sink in------and also bind the soil, thus preventing its being washed away easily; but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away from the surface, causing floods and carrying away with it the rich topsoil, in which crops grow so well. When all the top-soil is gone, nothing remains but a worthless desert.41. What is the most important function of trees?A. Providing fuel.B. Offering shade.C. Preventing natural disasters.D. Providing charcoal.42. What eventually happened to the rich, powerful country 2000years ago?A. Its people died of hanger.B. It fell to pieces.C. It became a giant empire.D. It built many ships with wood.43. It is implied in the passage that the villager__________.A. wants a plentiful supply of trees for their lifeB. wants fire wood to cook their meals and warm themselvesC. wants to get money so that they can be richD. is not aware of the importance of environmental protection44. One of the roles of trees is to , according to the passage.A. decorate natureB. destroy an empireC. harden soilD. keep soil in position45. What is the passage mainly concerned with?A. The three benefits provided by trees.B. Trees and soil conservation.C. The various uses of trees.D. The different attitudes of the government and the villagers toward trees.Passage 4 Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage:Our boat floated on, between walls of forest too thick to allow us a view of the land we were passing through, though we knew from the map that our river must from time to time be passing through chains of hills which crossed the jungle plains. Nowhere did we find a place where we could have landed, where the jungle did not actually spread right down into the river, banks of soft mud prevented us going ashore. In any case, what would we have gained by landing? The country was full of snakes and other dangerous creatures, and the jungle was so thick that one would be able to advance only slowly, cutting one’s way with knives the whole way. So we stayed in the boat, hoping that when we reach the sea, a friendly fisherman would pick us up and take us to civilization. We lived on fish, caught with a home-made net of string (we had no hooks), and any fruit and nuts we could pick up out of the water. As we had no fire, we had to eat everything, including the fish, raw.I had never tasted raw fish before, and I must say I did not much enjoy the experience:perhaps sea-fish which do not live in the mud are less tasteless. After rating my raw fish,I lay back and dreamed of such things as fried chicken and rice, and ice-cream.In the never ending damp heat of the jungle,ice-cream was aparticularly frequent dream. As for water, there was a choice:we could drink the muddy river water,or die of thirst. We drank the water.(Men who have just escaped what had appreared to be certain death lose all worries about such small things as diseases caused by dirty water.)In fact, none of us suffered from any illness as a result. One day we passed another village, but fortunately nobody saw us.We did not wish to risk being taken prisoners a second time:we might not be so lucky as to escape in a stolen boat again.46.It can be inferred from the passage that they had been in.A.an untnhabited areaB.an enemy countryC.a primitive areaD.a hunting ground47.According to the passage, they would Not go ashore where .A.trees reached the riverB.the river side was covered with soft mudC.they could not find human helpD.they might meet enemies48.What did they do on the river bankA.They killed snakesB.They had to cut their way forward.C.They found a boatD.They did not go ashore49.According to the author,__________.A.Sea fish tasted better than fish in muddy waterB.Sea fish tasted worse than fish in muddy waterC.Sea fish in muddy water were tastelessD.Sea fish in muddy water were less tasteless50.Why did the author drink the river water ?A.Because the water was free from germs.B.Because they had experienced something worse.C.Because they were not likely to be affected by disease.D.Because they were too healthy fo fall ill.Part 3 Vocabulary and Structure (35%)Section A (1%,30%)Directions:There are a number of incomplete sentences in this part. For each sentence there are four choices marked A,B,Cand D.Choose the ONE answer that best completes the sentence. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.51.There is ______resemblance between Jane and Mary, who are just in the same class. It is hard to tell one from the other.A. inspiringB.strikingC. excitingD.overwelming52. During the holidays, more and more students choose to be the volunteers, take part-time jobs, or take part in other practical activities alike. It’s obvious that social practice is p aying a more and more important role in China’s college e ducation.Undoubtedly, college students have benefited a lot from social practice. Above all, they are provided with more opportunities to contact the real world outside the campus. Moreover, in social practice activities, students can apply their knowledge to the solution to the practical problems. So, their practical skills are improved greatly. Besides, social practice helps strengthen students’ sense of social responsibility. Considering the above-mentioned, I think, it is necessary for college students to participate in social practice. However, social practice may bring some problems. For example, some students spend too much time in taking part-time jobs so as to ignore their study. Therefore, we should try to balance the relationship between social practice and study. As is indicated in the diagram, in the decades to come, the proportion of people over 60 years old in China will rise from 12.5 percent to 30 percent. That's to say, ageing population will increase by three times. The degree of aging is growing severely. There are two reasons for it. One is our longer life, and another is family planning policy. These brought about the decline of newly born population and the increase of aging population. The aging population brings a serious challenge to families and the society. On the one hand, the family's living pressure will be increased. On the other hand, to society, it isn't conducive to the development of China's economy and the rise of public happiness. As for me, the aging population is unavoidable, but we can reduce its negative impact. Our government is supposed to constitute relevant policies to adjust the times. What's more, we should take more care of the elderly and let them live a harmonious and nice life.Part IIPart Ⅱ Listening Comprehension (25 minutes)Section ADirections: In this section, you will hear three news reports.

I’ve seen rice terraces elsewhere in Asia, but nothing compared with the beauty of the Longji Rice Terraces. To go to Guangxi and skip these rice terraces would be a loss. These over 600-year-old terraces are still very much in use and feed the local Yao and Zhuang communities; you can find many guesthouses throughout the various rice terraces, and while accommodations ( 住宿) are very basic, I would strongly suggest spending a night in the peaceful terraces, surrounded by nothing but rice.My friends and I had arrived in Guangxi on harvest day and we were told by our local guide it was too late to see Longji in its autumnal beauty. But we were super lucky because the 2021 harvest had been put off, and when we arrived in Longsheng a couple of days later, it was the last day before the harvest began. It’s quite risky to time your visit this way, but it is amazing to see the Longji Rice Terraces both before harvest and after, when it takes on a completely new character. The two main terraced areas are the Ping’an Terraced Fields and the Jinkeng Terraced Fields. The former is home to the local Zhuang people and has more visitors as it’s easier to reach. Jinkeng, on the other hand, is less visited. The Red Yao people live here, and should you need a hand with your suitcase, their women are happy to help you. We chose Jinkeng because it’s home to the highest point of the Longji Rice Terraces. The viewpoint is nearly 4,000 feet high. We had to go up there as our hotel was up there, but you should anyway as it’s the most wonderful viewpoint. The Longji Rice Terraces are supposed to be beautiful in the spring and summer as well, though I much prefer its autumnal beauty. Winter, I’d skip, as it was already cold enough at night in October, but I’d return and visit again in the spring or summer.1.What is the author’s advice for people visiting the Longji Rice Terraces?A.Staying a night at a guesthouse among the terraces.B.Going to the local Yao and Zhuang communities.C.Choosing good accommodations.D.Eating the local rice.2.Why did the author feel very lucky when he arrived in Longsheng?A.He could enjoy the terraces’ autumnal beauty.B.He found a time-saving way to the terraces.C.He came across one of his friends.D.He had a professional local guide.3.What made the author choose the Jinkeng Terraced Fields?A.The affordable hotel.B.The friendly people.C.The great viewpoint.D.The light traffic.4.Where can the text be found?A.In a short novel.B.In a news report.C.In a history book.D.In a travel magazine.BGoing to work on a couple of eggs might be the way forward if you want to lose weight. According to research from the Rochester Centre for Obesity in America, eating eggs for breakfast can help to limit your calorie intake throughout the rest of the day, by more than 400 calories. In the study, 30 overweight women were asked to eat an egg-based breakfast (2 eggs) and 30 overweight women were asked to eat a bread-based breakfast. Two kinds of breakfast contain the same amount of calories and almost the same levels of protein (蛋白质). The researchers recorded the women’s eating habits and found that just before lunch, the women who had eaten eggs for breakfast felt less hungry and ate a smaller lunch as a result.Researchers pointed out that certain foods lead to a greater sense of being full. An egg is an example of such food that has a 50% greater satiety index (指数) compared to white bread or ready-to-eat breakfast porridge. This study suggests that eating eggs for breakfast makes you feel fuller for longer so that you eat less at your next few meals. Therefore, if you’re trying to lose weight as it means, you may find it easier to cut calories without feeling hungry.Eggs are packed with all kinds of nutrients (营养) but contain just 85 calories each. Old advice to limit eggs to just a few each week has also been given up. According to the Food Standards Agency, there’s now no limit to the number of eggs you can eat in a week as part of a healthy balanced diet. If you feel like starting the day with eggs, we suggest you avoid frying them and eat them with wholemeal toast and a small glass of vitamin C-rich unsweetened orange juice, which will help the body make the best use of the iron in the eggs.5.What breakfast can lead to eating less for lunch?A.Bread.B.Eggs.C.Juice. D.Porridge6.What does the underlined word“satiety”probably mean in paragraph 3?A.A taste of food.B.A feeling of pride.C.A state of hunger.D.A sense of being full.7.What does the Food Standards Agency suggest we do?A.Avoid eating fried eggs.B.Take in as much protein as possible.C.Drink sweetened orange juice each day.D.Eat nothing between breakfast and lunch.8.What is the proper title for the text?A.Mind Your Calorie Intake B.Have a Big BreakfastC.Eat Eggs for Weight Loss D.Keep a Balanced DietCOne of the greatest sources of unhappiness, in my experience, is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are. When we see something we don’t like, we wish it could be different. We cry out for something better. That may be human nature, or perhaps it’s something rooted in our culture. The root of the unhappiness isn’t necessarily that we want things to be different. However, it’s that we decided we didn’t like it in the first place. We’ve judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It’s not bad or good, and it just is it.”In one of my books, I said “You should expect people to mess up and expect things to go differently than you planned”. Some readers said it’s too sorrowful to expect things to go wrong. However, it’s only negative if you see it as negative and judge it as bad. Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works and try to understand why that is.This can be applied to whatever you do: how other people act at work, how politics works and how depressing the news media can be. Accept these things as they are, and try to understand why they’re that way. It will save you a lot of sadness, because you’ll no longer say, “Oh. I wish bad things didn’t happen.”Does it mean you can never change things? Not at all. But change things not because you can’t accept things as they are, but because you enjoy the process of changing, learning and growing. Can we make this world a better place? You can say that you’ll continue to try to do things to help others, to grow as a person, to make a difference in this world. That’s the correct path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path. Therefore, when you find yourself judging and wishing for difference, try a different approach: accept and understand. It might lead to some interesting results.9.The author believes that we feel unhappy maybe because ________.A.it is our natural emotion in the life B.culture asks us to be different from others C.everyone has their own opinions on things D.we dislike something in the beginning10.Some readers think the words in the author’s book is too ________.A.depressing B.frightening C.encouraging D.unreal11.In paragraph 4, the underlined word “it” refers to ________.A.acting well at work and in politicsB.feeling depressed for the news mediaC.accepting and understanding what has happenedD.saying something negative when bad things come12.What is the main idea of the passage?A.Expecting things to be different gives us hope.B.Accepting can make our life happier and better.C.Traditional culture becomes the root of unhappiness.D.Judging good or bad is important for our world.五、阅读表达阅读下列短文,按照要求用英文回答问题。

You should decide on the best choiceand mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.Passage1 Questions 31 to 35 are based on the following passage:Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are a book-lover or only there to buy a book as a present. Worst of all is the powerful movement of the sea——the mountains of water moving toward the low-pressure hurricane center. This does not only mean that the villagers’ sons and grandsons have fewertrees. The results are even more serious: for where there are trees their roots break the soil up------allowing the rain to sink in------and also bind the soil, thus preventing its being washed away easily; but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away from the surface, causing floods and carrying away with it the rich topsoil, in which crops grow so well. Nowhere did we find a place where we couldhave landed, where the jungle did not actually spread right down into the river, banks of soft mud prevented us going ashore. After rating my raw fish,I lay back and dreamed of such things as fried chicken and rice,andice-cream.In the never ending damp heat of the jungle,ice-cream was aparticularly frequent dream.
