My First Week at Harvard
The day a freshman Harvard Yard is said to always be a one and this was certainly true of my first day at Harvard. As my parents and I the main gate and entered the Yard, the sun was through the trees, the historic brick buildings and causing the green grass to in the early morning dew. I gazed out the window at this scene and myself “No freshman should be so lucky!”
We arrived at my dorm —it’s called Canaday. I’m a suite four other girls that has four single bedrooms and a large common room. We live on the top floor, which has really high and skylights. Canaday is only a two-minute walk from the dining hall and most of my classes. I my roommates. We’re all completely different of background, ethnicity, religion, and interests — we the that Harvard is so proud of. During this first week, it’s a relief to have four girls I can call friends and that can help me through this process which is quite difficult at times. There are a lot of important decisions I have to make, and I’m finding it without the aid of my parents or best friends.
Deciding what classes to take is the first step. At Harvard, the only class for freshmen is an expository writing class —I’m actually able to take any classes I this year and the class variety is amazing! How do I decide? Thankfully, Harvard allows freshmen to classes during “Shopping Week”. Classes meet at their times, and we’re able to attend as many (or as few) as we want. I f I decide to take a course, I’ll be held for any work done during the Shopping Week. On the other hand, if I visit a class that sounds great in the catalog only to find that the class doesn’t me or the professor is boring, I can decide not to take it! Equally is choosing from amongst the number of sports teams, publications, musical groups, theater productions and clubs. Which to get in?
Eating is definitely one of the of being a freshman at Harvard. It’s not so much the food that makes the meal —the cuisine is tasty, but it’s where we eat that’s truly . Our dining hall is more like a church or a museum a cafeteria. The tables, chairs, floors, walls, and lofty ceilings are all made of gorgeous, dark wood that is so impeccably that it shines. Moreover, the hall is hung with chandeliers, has colored stained glass windows and is filled with statues and portraits of famous from Harvard’s past.
All of these first-week experiences will great life-time memories but the best Harvard has me thus far have been the other students I’ve met. Everyone I’ve here has been so down-to-earth that every time I see someone either singing an moving song at an A Capella Concert, performing an amazing violin solo at a show, or saying something extremely in one of my classes, I’m blown away! Appreciating and being surrounded by so many people is what has made my first week at Harvard a truly experience. One week down, four more years to go —I can’t wait!。
