So where there is financial connection, we see that rapid improvements in quality of life can quickly follow. In our modern context, there are several important channels to achieving this greater financial connectivity. I want to highlight two today: increased capital mobility and increased financial inclusion.First, enabling capital to flow more freely. Allowing capital to flow across borders can help support inclusive growth. Right now, foreign direct investment —FDI — is only 1.9 percent of GDP in developing countries. Before the global financial crisis, it was at 2.5 percent. Making progress on major infrastructure needs will require capital flows to rise again and to be managed safely.Greater openness to capital flows can also bring down the cost of finance, improve the efficiency of the financial sector, and allow capital to support productive investments and new jobs.Challenges that come with opening up capital markets. Thankfully, we know from experience the elements that are required for success. These include sound financial regulation, transparent rules for investment, and attention to fiscal sustainability. We also need increased financial inclusion. A few numbers: close to half of the adult population in low and middle-income Asia-Pacific economies do not have a bank account. Less than 10 percent have ever borrowed from a financial institution. And yet, we know that closing the finance gap is an “economic must-have” for nations to thrive in the 21st century. IMF analysis shows that if the least financially inclusive countries in Asia narrowed the finance gap to the level of Thailand — an emerging market economy — the poverty rate in those countries could be reduced by nearly 4 percent. How can we get there? In part, through policies that enable more women and rural citizens to access financial services. The financial gender gap for women in developing countries is about 9 percent and has remained largely unchanged since 2011.There is no silver bullet, but we know that fintech can play a catalyzing role.In Cambodia, for example, strong public-private partnerships in supporting mobile finance has led to a tripling in the number of micro-financial institutions since 2011. These institutions have now provided loans to over 2 million new borrowers, representing nearly 20 percent of the adult population. Many of these citizens had never had a bank account. Now they can save for the future and perhaps even start a business of their own. These are ideas that can work everywhere. But countries have to be willing to partner and learn from each other. That is one of the major reasons why last October, the IMF and World Bank launched the Bali Fintech Agenda. The agenda lays out key principles — from developing financial markets to safeguarding financial integrity — that can help each nation as it strives for greater financial inclusion.【第一篇参考答案】哪里形成了金融联系,当地的生活质量就会很快改善。

Translate the following passage into Chinese随着社会主义市场经济的逐步完善,中国大多数企业的社会责任意识也在不断增强。

As the socialist market economy gradually improves, there is also a growing sense of social responsibility among the vast majority of Chinese companies. They abide by the code of ethics and lawful operation andare committed to providing high-quality products for domestic and foreign consumers. They pay attention to conservation, environmental protection and CSR fulfillment. Some companies go even further by publishing their CSR reports to disclose their CSR performance and to voluntarily subject themselves to public scrutiny. Of course, constrained by the level and stage of its economic development, China still practices a rough-edged economic growth model, featuring high energy and resources consumption and high environmental costs. A handful of companies are still single-mindedly seeking profits and turning a blind eye to their social responsibilities.Since the 1980s, CSR has become to a global trend. Putting emphasis on CSR means companies not only have to be responsible to their investors, but also to their employees, customers, business partners, and to the environment and society. International success stories also show that CSR is part of a company's brand image and its core competitiveness. It is a vital source of sustained prosperity for business. So in order to survive and grow, it is imperative that companies should raise their CSR awareness and actively fulfill their social responsibilities. We have every reason to believe that future business competition will diversify from specific products, technology and talents toward CSR performance. As the proverb goes, "The rose is in her hand and thefragrance in mine". Companies benefit from their efforts to honor CSR and promote social harmony.Translate the following passage into Chinese.Born in 1451, the son of an Italian weaver, Christopher Columbus took to the sea at an early age, making up for his lack of formal education by teaching himself geography, navigation, and Latin. By the 1480s Columbus - a tall, red-haired, long-faced man with a ruddy complexion, oval eyes, and a prominent nose - was an experienced seaman. Dazzled by the prospect of Asian riches, he hatched a scheme to reach the Indies (India, China, the East Indies, or Japan) by sailing west. After the courts of Portugal, England, and France showed little interest in his plan, Columbus turned to Spain for backing. He won the support of Ferdinand and Isabella, the Spanish monarchs, and himself raised much of the money needed to finance the voyage. The legend that the queen had to hock the crown jewels is as spurious as the fable that Columbus set out to prove the earth was round.Columbus chartered one seventy-five-foot ship, the Santa Maria, and the Spanish city of Palos supplied two smaller caravels, the Pinta and Nina. From Palos this little squadron, with eighty-seven officers and men, set sail westward for what Columbus thought was Asia. The first leg of the journey went well, thanks to a strong trade wind. But then the breeze lagged, the days passed, and the crew began to grumble abouttheir captain's farfetched plan. To rally flagging morale, he reminded the crew of the dazzling riches awaiting them. Yet skepticism remained rife, and he finally promised that the expedition would turn back if land were not sighted in three days.Early on October 12, 1492, after thirty-three days at sea, a lookout on the Santa Maria yelled "Tierra! Tierra ! [Land! Land! ] " It was an island in the Bahamas that Columbus named San Salvador ( Blessed Savior), According to Columbus's own reckoning he was near the Indies, so he called the island people los Indios. He described the Indians as naked people, "very well made, of very handsome bodies and very good faces." The Arawak Indians paddled out in dugout logs, which they called canoes, and offered gifts to the strangers. Their warm generosity and docile temperament led Columbus to write in his journal that "they invite you to share anything that they possess, and show as much love as if their hearts went with it." Yet he added that "with fifty men they could all be subjugated and compelled to do anything one wishes."

Over the next three days we will consider the ways the Belt and Road Initiative —the BRI—can help better connect the world physically and financially for years to come.

The Love Song of J.Alfred PrufrockLong Day Journey Into the NightThe AmbassadorThe Fall of the House of Usher填空:马克吐温:Gilded Age给了句诗"petal on a wet, black bough"问是什么诗歌运动,说实话我没认出来,但是诗歌运动想来想去也就ImagismLetter A:红字Rip van Winkle作者:Washing IrvingJohn Milton: Paradise LostJames Joyce: Ulysses (又是原题,大家一定要注意拼写)美学代表人物: Oscar WildeEmily Bronte:Wuthering Height托马斯哈代的最后一部作品,一开始看到哈代想当然就写了苔丝,后来检查的时候又看了一遍才发现应该是无名的裘德,但是只有一个模糊的印象写错成Jude of Obscurity应该是Jude the Obscure【名词解释】(大家一定要信考纲,不要有偏重)Metaphysical poetryByronic heroTheatre of absrdMetaphorStream of conscious【简答题】Jane AustenーPride and Prejudice分析她的写作(去年考过sense and sensibility今年就考这篇,虽然猜到可能会这样考,但是还是把复习重点放在了其他女作家)American Naturalism 社会背景,举例作家来说明(还好考前一个晚上看了Dreiser的Sister Carrie)Lake poet是?feature?

第四题英译汉共60分(一反常态的,好长好长的,一篇文章)Every family has its own holiday traditions. In the Brown household, Christmas was always a time of delicious food, sing-alongs, colorful gifts, and mysterious codes.Yes, codes. When I was a kid, no Christmas morning was complete without the annual treasure hunt. When the last present under the Christmas tree had been opened, my siblings and I knew that there still remained one "big" present hidden somewhere in the house for us to find. Our only hope of locating it was a cryptic clue that traditionally resided in a lone envelope perched high on the tree, out of our reach. One year the envelope contained a particularly mind-boggling treasure hunt that my brother, sister and I still recall as The "TOCEP" Christmas Mystery. (In fact, this treasure hunt directly inspired the scene on page 111 of The Da Vinci Code.) That was the year we had a foreign exchange student living with us. Bea was South African and understandably was somewhat overwhelmed by the frenzied anticipation that led up to an American Christmas. Nonetheless, she embraced the decorating, singing, and cooking with a zeal that made the holidays doubly special for us that year. So it was with great happiness, on Christmas morning, after all the presents were opened, that my parents handed Bea the mysterious envelope and explained to her the Brown tradition of a Christmas Quest.Looking amazed that such a tradition could exist, Bea excitedly opened the envelope. The poem inside announced that this year'squest involved locating five letters of the alphabet, which had been hidden around the house. According to the poem’s final stanza, the first letter we needed to find was "T."You seek a letter in a nook(It's very hard to see). But of the places you might look,There’s just one spot for "T."Only one spot for T?My little brother Greg was the first to figure it out. He leapt up and dashed into the kitchen. We all ran after him as he retrieved a stool, dragged it into the breakfast nook, climbed up onto the counter, and grabbed the canister in which my mother kept her tea bags. Sure enough, inside was a note card emblazoned with the letter "T."Brilliant!Along with the letter "T" we found another clue, which ingeniously guided us down to the basement where we found the letter "O" taped to an O-shaped Hoola Hoop.Again, fiendishly clever! From there more clues led us all over the house. In the kitchen we found the letter "C" stuffed in a Vitamin C container. In the mud-room, the letter "E" was hidden inside my Exeterbaseball cap (bearing that same letter).By then, we had located four letters (T-O-C-E), and still we felt no closer to understanding our mysterious prize. We hoped the fifth and final letter would make it all come clear. The final clue, however, was baffling. The final letter in your quest,Is simple as can be.It's hidden in a special roomQuite natural for a "P."A special room quite natural for a P?I looked in the pantry around the canned peas. Nothing. My little brother checked his bedroom for his Phillies cap. Nothing.A natural place for "P"?It was Beatrice, our exchange student (having learned a good amount of American slang), who suddenly gasped, jumped to her feet, and dashed up the stairs. For a moment, my siblings and I thought she was ill... but then we heard her shriek with joy. We raced upstairs to find Bea in the bathroom, laughing hysterically and pointing into the toilet. We peered inside, and there, to our enormous delight, we found the letter "P" taped inside the toilet bowl."P" in the toilet! The joke left all four of us kids rolling on the floor in hysterics. Surely my parents had to be the two funniest people alive. Finally, when we all could breathe again, we hurried back to the living room to decipher the meaning of these five mysterious lettersT-O-C-E-P?We spread the letters out on the living room floor and stared at them.T...O...C...E...P?They meant nothing to us.It was my younger sister Valerie who saw it first. She drew a startled breath and spun to my parents in disbelief. "No!" she exclaimed. "Really?"My parents were beaming. "Really. We leave tomorrow morning." The rest of us kids watched in rapt animation as little Valerie victoriously rearranged the five letters TOCEP.... to spell one magical word: EPCOT. Instantly, all four kids were dancing around the room, whooping for joy, chanting "Epcot! Epcot!" Even our exchange student Bea had heard of Walt Disney World's Epcot Center, and she joined in the dance. It was a dream cometrue. The very next morning, we all boarded a plane for Epcot. It was the best Christmas ever.

Globalization for Change in Higher Education What is globalization and how does it affect higher education policy and academic institutions? The answer is deceivingly simple and the implications are surprisingly complex. 1 For higher education, globalization implies the social, economic, and technological forces that shape the realities of the 21st century. These elements include advanced information technology, new ways of thinking about financing higher education and a concomitant acceptance of market forces and commercialization, unprecedented mobility for students and professors, and other developments. Significantly, the idea of mass access to higher education has meant unprecedented expansion of higher education everywhere - there are about 134 million students in postsecondary education 2 worldwide, and many countries have seen unprecedented and sustained expansion in the past several decades. These global trends are for the most part inevitable. Nations, and academic institutions, must constructively cope with the implications. 3Massificationmassification 4 is without question the most ubiquitous global influence of the past half century or more. 5 The United States had thefirst mass higher education system, beginning as early as the 1920s. Europe followed in the 1960s, and parts of Asia a decade or so later. The developing countries were the last to expand. Most of the growth of the 21st century is taking place in developing and middle-income countries. North America, Europe, and a number of Pacific Rim nations now enroll 60 percent or more of the relevant age group 6 in higher education. What has massification brought?Public good vs. private good. 7 Stimulated in part by the financial pressures of massification and also by broader changes in economic thinking, including the neoliberal agenda, 8 higher education is increasingly considered in economic terms a private good - a benefit accruing mainly to individuals who should pay for it rather than a public good that contributes benefits to society and thus should be financially supported by the state. 9Varied funding patterns. For most countries, the state has traditionally been the main funder of higher education. Massification has placed great strains on state funding, and in all cases governments no longer believe they can adequately fund mass higher education. Other sources of funding need to be found - including student tuition and fees ( typically the largest source) , a variety of government-sponsored and private loan programs, university income generating programs ( such as industry collaboration or consulting) , and philanthropic support.Decline in quality vs. conditions of study. 10 On average in most countries, the quality of higher education has declined. In a mass system, top quality cannot be provided to all students. 11 It is not affordable, and the ability levels of both students and professors necessarily become more diverse.University study and teaching are no longer a preserve for the elite - both in terms of ability and wealth. While the top of a diversified academic system may maintain its quality 12 (although in some countries the top sector has also suffered), the system as a whole declines.Globalization of the Academic MarketplaceMore than 2 million students are studying abroad, and it is estimated that this number will increase to 8 million in a few years. Many others are enrolled in branch campuses and twinning programs. 13 There are many thousands of visiting scholars and postdocs studying internationally. Most significantly, there is a global circulation of academics. Ease of transportation, IT, the use of English, and the globalization of the curriculum have tremendously increased the international circulation of academic talent. Flows of students and scholars move largely from South to North - from the developing countries to North America and Europe. And while the "brain drain" of the past has become more of a "brain exchange", with flows of bothpeople and knowledge back and forth across borders and among societies, the great advantage still accrues to the traditional academic centers at the expense of the peripheries. Even China, and to some extent India, with both large and increasingly sophisticated academic systems, find themselves at a significant disadvantage in the global academic marketplace. For much of Africa, the traditional brain drain remains largely a reality.

I wish you ---me yesterday.A. could tell B.had tell C.tell D.would tell二阅读理解:(一)To understand the marketing concept, it is only necessary to understand the difference between marketing and selling. Not too many years ago, most industries concentrated primarily on the efficient production of goods, and then relied on \\\"persuasive salesmanship\\\" to move as much of these goods as possible. Such production and selling focuses on the needs of the seller to produce goods and then convert them into money.Marketing, on the other hand, focuses on the wants of consumers. It begins with first analyzing the preferences and demands of consumers and then producing goods that will satisfy them. This eye- on-the-consumer approach is known as the marketing concept, which simply means that instead of trying to sell whatever is easiest to produce or buy for resale, the makers and dealers first endeavor to find out what the consumer wants to buy and then go about making it available for purchase. This concept does not imply that business is benevolent or that consumer satisfaction is given priority over profit in a company. There are always two sides to every business transaction--thefirm and the customer—and each must be satisfied before trade occurs. Successful merchants and producers, however, recognize that the surest route to profit is through understanding and catering to customers. A striking example of the importance of catering to the consumer presented itself in mid-1985, when Coca Cola changed the flavor of its drink. The non-acceptance of the new flavor by a significant portion of the public brought about a prompt restoration of the Classic Coke, which was then marketed alongside the new. King Customer ruled!1.The marketing concept discussed in the passage is, in essence, ______.A.the practice of turning goods into moneyB.making goods available for purchaseC.the customer-centred approachD.a form. of persuasive salesmanship2.What was the main concern of industrialists before the marketing concept was widely accepted? ______A.The needs of the market.B.The efficiency of production.C.The satisfaction of the user.D.The preferences of the dealer.3.According to the passage, \\\"to move as much of these goods as possible\\\" (Lines 3-4, Para. 1) means \\\"______\\\".A.to sell the largest possible amount of goodsB.to transport goods as efficiently as possibleC.to dispose of these goods in large quantitiesD.to redesign these goods for large-scale production4.What does the restoration of the Classic Coke best illustrate? ______A.Traditional goods have a stronger appeal to the majority of people.B.It takes time for a new product to be accepted by the public.C.Consumers with conservative tastes are often difficult to please,D.Products must be designed to suit the taste of the consumer.5.没找到原题(二)Most people think of a camel as an obedient beast of burden, because it isbest known for its ability to carry heavy loads across vast stretch of desert without requiring water. In reality, the camel is considerably more than just the Arabian equivalent of the mule. It also possesses a great amount of intelligence and sensitivity. The Arabs assert that the camels are so acutely aware of injustice and ill treatment that a camel owner who punishes one of the beasts too harshly finds it difficult to escape the camel’s vengeance. Apparently, the animal will remember an injury and wait for an opportunity to get revenge. In order to protect themselves from the vengeful beasts, Arabian camel drivers have learned to trick their camels into believing they have achieved revenge. When an Arab realizes that he has excited a camel’s rage, he places his own garments on the ground in the animal’s path. He arranges the clothing so that it appears to cover a man’s body. When the camel recognizes its master’s clothing on the ground, it seizes the pile with its teeth, shakes the garment violently and tramples on them in a rage. Eventually, after its anger has died away, the camel departs, assuming its revenge is complete. Only then does the owner of the garments come out of the hiding, safe for the time being, thanks to this clever ruse.1.. Which of the following is mentioned in this passage?A. The camel never drinks water.B. The camel is always violent.C. The camel is very sensitive .D. The camel is rarely used anymore.2. It is implied in the passage that____.A. the mule is a stupid and insensitive animal.B. the mule is as intelligent as the camel.C. The mule is an animal widely used in the desert.D. The mule is an vengeful animal.3. From the passage we can conclude that ____.A. camels are generally vicious towards their owners.B. camels usually treat their owners well.C.camels don’t see very well.D. camels try to punish people who abuse them.4. The writer makes the camel’s vengeful behavior clearer to the reader by presenting ____.A. a well-planned argumentB. a large variety of examplesC. some eyewitness accountsD. a typical incident5. Is learning foreign languages a waste of time?150词以上,30分。

题目是how for-profit tech firms make turmoil,有生词,但是联系语境可以猜个大概。

As a young adult I read a lot of Virginia Woolf's diaries and again thought that I really should keep a diary. I knew enough about myself by then to know that the retelling of personal feelings in a diary was completely intolerable to me, I was too self-conscious, and too lazy for the daily workload. So I tried to copy the form and style of Woolf's single-volume Writer's Diary and make entries only on days when something literary had happened to me, either something I wrote or something I read, or encounters with other writers. That diary lasted exactly one day. It covered an afternoon spent with Jeff Eugenides and took up twelve pages and half the night. Forget it! At that rate the writing of the life will take longer than the living of it. I think part of the problem was the necessity to write in the first person, a form I have, until recently, found laborious and stressful. I was not able to use it with any confidence except in short, essayistic bursts. When I was younger even the appearance of ‘I’ on the page made me feel a bit ill – that self-consciousness again –and I woul d always try to obscure it with ‘we ’. I notice that once I got to America this began to change, and then snowball; looking up the page right now I see more cases of ‘I’ than a stretch of Walt Whitman. But still I have some mental block when it comes to diaries and journals. The same childish questions get to me. Who is it for? What is this voice? Who am I trying to kid – myself?
