I had never seen a real desert landscape in person before. The rock formations and the twisted Joshua trees looked like they were straight out of a Dr. Seuss book! We went hiking and saw lots of interesting plants and critters. It was crazy hot though, and we were happy to get back in the air-conditioned car.On another day, we went up to Hollywood and saw landmarks like the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Chinese Theatre. We didn't go to any celebrities' houses, since my parents said that would be rude. But we did spot a television actress eating at an outdoor cafe. That was pretty cool!Towards the end of our trip, we visited my aunt and uncle's old neighborhood downtown to go to their favorite taco truck. The tacos were delicious! The neighborhood had a lot of colorful murals painted on the buildings too. I tried to picture my aunt and uncle living there when they were younger.All too soon, it was time to head back home to Ohio. I gave my aunt, uncle and cousins big hugs goodbye, already missing them. The flight home seemed to drag on forever. When we finally landed back in Ohio, the sight of the green trees and rolling hills made me smile though. As much as I had loved California, I was happy to be back home.This summer trip to California was one I'll never forget. I made so many wonderful memories, from the beach to Disneyland to the desert. We all didn't want to go home because the scenery was so beautiful, and there were so many other exciting things to try,but sadly it was time for us to go.
