3.Cohesive devices need to be used well
)Solution:这是⼀个考官给同学们的解决⽅案:‘ Make sure that each paragraph is about one idea. In the planning stage make sure you have enough to say about an idea before you start writing about it. This means that you may choose the ideas that are easiest to write about andnot the ones that are the most intelligent.’

Essay Writing Coherence(2)

In recent years, the popularity of pursuing a graduate degree has been on the rise in China. The national postgraduate entrance examination, also known as the "gaokao," is an important milestone for many students who aspire to continue their education. The English writing section of the exam is particularly challenging, as it requires candidates to demonstrate their ability to think critically and express their ideas effectively. In this article, we will analyze the 2019 English writing test and provide a sample essay as a reference for future test-takers.The 2019 English writing test consisted of two parts: an argumentative essay and a data interpretation task. In the argumentative essay section, candidates were asked to discuss whether it is necessary for individuals to attend graduate school. They were required to present their views and support them with relevant examples and evidence. This topic is highly relevant in today's society, as more and more people are considering pursuing a higher degree for various reasons. To begin with, attending graduate school can provide individuals with advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen field. In today's competitive job market, having a graduate degree can give candidates a competitive edge and increase their chances of landing a desirable job. Furthermore, graduate school offers opportunities for students to engage in research and contribute to the development of their field. By pursuing a higher degree, individuals can deepen their understanding of their subject and make significant contributions to their respective industries. Moreover, attending graduate school can also foster personal growth and development. The rigorous academic environment of graduate school challenges students to think critically and develop their analytical and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the diverse community of scholars and experts in graduate schools allows students to broaden their horizons and gain a global perspective. The interactions with classmates and professors can also cultivate valuable networking opportunities and lifelong friendships. However, it is important to acknowledge that attending graduate school is not suitable for everyone. Some individuals may prefer to enter the workforce immediately after completing their undergraduate studies. For these individuals, gaining practical experience and building a career may be a higher priority. Additionally, the financial burden of graduate school can be a significant deterrent for many students. Tuition fees and living expenses can be substantial, and not everyone has the financial means to support their education. In conclusion, attending graduate school can be a valuable investment for individuals who are seeking advanced knowledge, career advancement, and personal growth. However, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and individuals should carefully consider their goals, financial situation, and personal circumstances before making a decision. Whether to attend graduate school or not is a personal choice that should be based on individual needs and aspirations.。
In my opinion, the most important quality a person should have is resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks, to adapt and overcome challenges, and to keep going despite difficulties. It is a crucialtrait that helps individuals navigate through the ups and downs of life.Resilience is particularly important in today's fast-paced and unpredictable world. We face numerous obstacles and setbacks in our personal and professional lives, and without resilience, it is easy to become overwhelmed and give up. However, with resilience, we are able to facethese challenges head-on and find ways to overcome them. One example of resilience in action is the story of Thomas Edison. He failed thousands of times before successfully inventing the light bulb. Instead of giving upafter each failure, he saw them as learning opportunities and kept trying until he achieved success. His resilience and determination ultimately led to one of the greatest inventions in history.Resilience is also important in personal relationships. We all experience conflicts and disagreements with others, but it is how we handle these situations that defines the strength of our relationships. Resilience allows us to forgive, to compromise, and to find common ground, even in the face of adversity. Without resilience, relationshipscan easily crumble under pressure.

Cohesion refers to the way ideas are connected and is usually managed by using linking words.
于是不少同学都误以为linking words 就是把however, on the other hand 等 transition signals(过渡词)用上就可以了, 这的确是其中一部分。
▼比如在表达对比时写上in comparison,给出例子时写for instance,下结论时写to conclude 等等。
Linking 还包括 referencing by using pronouns(代词指代)和using substitution(同义替换)。
1. transition signals2. referencing by using pronouns3. using substitution下面是剑桥雅思15第135页考官对一篇7分文章的评语,可以得到很好的印证。
Advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it.7分文章▼Advertisements can act as a strong persuasion device to seemingly hypnotize people into buying goods and services. This is so because of the tactics placed in the messages, such as showing people having a good time together when using a particular product, using bandwagen, showing only the upsides of usage, and applying compare and contrast strategies to show the effects of using the product and make it stand out. Even if people do not know it, these messages are repeated several times and soon it may brainwash people to finally go out and get the product. For instance, if a person is watching television and sees a certain advertisement of a snack many times, the repeatedsight of the scrumptious food may result in that person feeling hungry and succumbing to the advertisement at last.In conclusion, advertisements can be successful in persuading people to purchase goods and services, or they can be unsuccessful in many ways. They are very commonly seen nowadays, but not all of them fulfill their purpose. Thus, advertisements must be designed and presented in the correct way to result in the highest effectiveness.
It's been a long time since I last sat down to write a proper essay. I remember the days when I used to struggle with my writing, trying to come up with the perfect introduction and the most convincing arguments. But now, as I sit here thinking about what to write, I realize that I don't need to follow any rules or conventions. I can just let my thoughts flow and see where they take me.One thing that has been on my mind a lot lately is the idea of success. We are constantly bombarded with images and stories of successful people, and it's easy to feellike we are not doing enough. But what is success, really? Is it about money and power, or is it about happiness and fulfillment? I think it's different for everyone, and we shouldn't let society's standards dictate our own definitions of success.Another thing that I've been thinking about is the concept of time. It's such a strange thing, isn't it? Weare always running out of it, yet we never seem to have enough. We are constantly trying to save time, yet we waste so much of it on things that don't really matter. I think we need to slow down and savor the moments that we have, instead of always rushing to the next thing.Speaking of rushing, I've also been considering the idea of balance. We are always trying to find the perfect balance between work and play, between socializing and solitude, between indulgence and restraint. But why do we always feel like we have to choose one over the other? Can't we have it all? I think it's possible to find a balance that works for us, but it takes a lot of trial and error. In conclusion, I think it's important to remember that life is a journey, not a destination. We don't have to have all the answers right now, and we don't have to have everything figured out. It's okay to be uncertain, to be lost, to be searching for meaning. As long as we keep moving forward, I think we'll be okay.。
In the year 2019, the postgraduate entrance examination for English II featured an essay prompt that required examinees to write a composition based on a specific topic. Here is a sample essay that could be considered a model response for that years exam: Title: The Impact of Technology on EducationIn the 21st century, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, and its influence on education is undeniable. The purpose of this essay is to explore the impact of technology on education, highlighting both its advantages and potential drawbacks.IntroductionThe advent of the digital age has brought about significant changes in the way we learn and teach. From online courses to educational apps, technology has transformed the educational landscape. This essay will discuss the positive aspects of technology in education, such as accessibility and interactivity, while also considering the challenges it presents, such as digital divide and overreliance on technology.Body Paragraph 1: AccessibilityOne of the most significant impacts of technology on education is its ability to make learning materials more accessible. Students can now access a wealth of information online, from academic papers to educational videos, which were previously only available through physical libraries. This has democratized education, allowing students from diverse backgrounds to access highquality learning resources.Body Paragraph 2: InteractivityTechnology has also made education more interactive. Learning management systems, such as Moodle and Blackboard, enable students to engage with their coursework in a more dynamic way. Through these platforms, students can participate in online discussions, submit assignments, and receive feedback from their instructors in real time. This interactive approach to learning can enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes.Body Paragraph 3: The Digital DivideDespite the many benefits of technology in education, there are also challenges that needto be addressed. One such challenge is the digital divide, which refers to the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not. Students in rural areas or from lowincome families may not have the same access to technology as their urban counterparts, which can limit their educational opportunities.Body Paragraph 4: OverReliance on TechnologyAnother concern is the potential overreliance on technology in education. While technology can be a valuable tool, it should not replace the need for critical thinking and problemsolving skills. There is a risk that students may become overly dependent on technology, neglecting the development of these essential skills.ConclusionIn conclusion, technology has had a profound impact on education, offering increased accessibility and interactivity. However, it is crucial to address the challenges of the digital divide and the potential overreliance on technology. By striking a balance between traditional and technological approaches to education, we can ensure that all students benefit from the advantages that technology has to offer. This essay provides a balanced view of the topic, discussing both the positive and negative aspects of technology in education. It is structured with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that explore different facets of the issue, and a conclusion that summarizes the main points. This structure is typical of a wellorganized essay and is a good example for students preparing for the English II portion of the postgraduate entrance examination.。

Some people believe the aim of university education is to help graduates get better jobs. Others believe there are much wider benefits of university education for both individuals and society.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
These days, more and more people are making the choice to go to university. While some people are of the opinion that the only purpose of a university education is to improve job prospects, others think that society and the individual benefit in much broader ways.
It is certainly true that one of the main aims of university is to secure a better job. To begin, the majority of people want to improve their future career prospects. Attending university is one of the best ways to do this as it increases your marketable skills and your attractiveness to potential employers. For example, in Europe, further education is very expensive for many people, so most would not consider it if it would not provide them with a more secure future and a higher standard of living. Also, universities have their reputation to consider. They
definitely want to ensure that their students are going to get the best jobs as this will affect future funding and university applications.
However, there are other benefits for individuals and society. Firstly, the independence of living away from home
is a benefit because it helps the students develop better social skills and improve as a person. Many students, for instance, will have to leave their families, live in halls of residence and meet new friends. As a result, their maturity and confidence will grow enabling them to live more
fulfilling lives. Secondly, society will gain from the contribution that the graduates can make to the economy. We are living in a very competitive world, so countries, especially developing countries, need educated people in order to compete and prosper.
To conclude, I believe that although a main aim of university education is to get the best job, there are
clearly further benefits. If we continue to promote and encourage university attendance, it will lead to a better future for everyone.
There are many ways to improve congestion. For example, some cities in The Netherlands have pedestrian only city centres.
Many countries have now reduced their CO2 emissions. As a result, there is now less pollution.
There are many ways to improve congestion; for example, some cities in The Netherlands have pedestrian only city centres.
Many countries have now reduced their CO2 emissions;as a result, there is now less pollution.
There are many ways to improve congestion. Some cities in The Netherlands, for instance, have pedestrian only city centres.
或者:
There are many ways to improve congestion. Some cities in The Netherlands have, for instance, pedestrian only city centres.
Tokyo now has a Sky Train. Traffic problems, as a
result/therefore/as a consequence,have decreased significantly.
或者:
Tokyo now has a Sky Train, and, as a result/therefore/as a consequence, traffic problems have decreased significantly.
INCORRECT
Tokyo now has a Sky Train, as a result, traffic problems have decreased significantly.
