The drops act like tiny prisms and break up the light into its colors. The colors of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The order of the colors is always the same. The red is on the outside and the violet is on the inside. Sometimes there is a second, fainter rainbow outside the first one. This is called a double rainbow. 2. We always assume that villagers in remote places are friendly and hospitable. But people who are cut off not only from foreign tourists, but even from their own countrymen can be hostile to travellers. Visits to really remote villages are seldom enjoyable--as my wife and I discovered during a tour through the Balkans. We had spent several days in a small town and visited a number of old churches in the vicinity. These attracted many visitors for they were not only of great architectural interest, but contained alarge number of beautifully preserved frescoes as well. On the day before our departure, several bus loads of tourists descended on the town. This was more than we could bear, so we decided to spend our last day exploring the countryside. Taking a path which led out of the town, we crossed a few fields until we came to a dense wood. We expected the path to end abruptly, but we found that it traced its way through the trees. We tramped through the wood for over two hours until we arrived at a deep stream. We could see that the path continued on the other side, but we had no idea how we could get across the stream. Suddenly my wife spotted a boat moored to the bank. In it there was a boatman fast asleep. We gently woke him upand asked him to ferry us to the other side. Though he was reluctant to do so at first, we eventually persuaded him to take us. The path led to a tiny village perched on the steep sides of a mountain. The place consisted of a straggling unmade road which was lined on either side by small houses. Even under a clear blue sky, the village looked forbidding, as all the houses were built of grey mud bricks. The village seemed deserted, the only sign of life being an ugly-looking black goat tied to a tree on a short length ofrope in a field nearby. Sitting down on a dilapidated wooden fence near the field, we opened a couple of tins of sardines and had a picnic lunch. All at once, I noticed that my wife seemed to be filled with alarm. Looking up I saw that we were surrounded by children in rags who were looking at us silently as we ate. We offered them food and spoke to them kindly, but they remained motionless. I concluded that they were simply shy of strangers. When we later walked down the main street of the village, we were followed by a silent procession of children. The village which had seemed deserted, immediately came to life. Faces appeared at windows. Men in shirt sleeves stood outside their houses and glared at us. Old women in black shawls peered at us from door-ways. The most frightening thing of all was that not a sound could be heard. There was no doubt that we were unwelcome visitors. We needed no further warning. Turning back down the main street, we quickened our pace and made our way rapidly towards the stream where we hoped the boatman was waiting.在这个旅游频繁的世界上,仍有成千上万个游人足迹未至的地方。

英语美文朗读1The Happy DoorHappiness is like a pebbledropped into a pool to set in motion an ever-wideningcircle of ripples. As Stevenson has said, being happy is a duty. There is no exact definition of the word happiness.Happy people are happy for all sorts of reasons. The key is not wealth or physical well-being,since we find beggars, invalids and so-called failures, who are extremely happy.Being happy is a sort of unexpected dividend. But staying happy is an accomplishment,a triumph of soul and character. It is not selfish to strive for it.It is, indeed, a duty to ourselves and others.Being unhappy is like an infectious disease. It causes people to shrink away from the sufferer. He soon finds himself alone, miserable and embittered. There is, however, a cure so simple as to seem,at first glance, ridiculous;if you don't feel happy, pretend to be! It works. Before long you will find that instead of repelling people, you attract them. Y ou discoverhow deeply rewarding it is to be the centerof wider and wider circles of good will. Then the make-believe becomes a reality.Y ou possess the secret of peace of mind, and can forget yourself in being of service to others.Being happy, once it is realized as a duty and establishedas a habit, opens doors into unimaginable gardens thronged withgrateful friends2Abundance Is a Life StyleAbundance is a life style, a way of living your life.It isn't something you buy now and then or pull down from the cupboard, dust off and use once or twice, and then return to the cupboard. Abundance is a philosophy;it appears in your physiology, your value system, and carries its own set of beliefs. You walk with it, sleep with it, bath with it,feel with it, and need to maintain and take care of it as well. Abundance doesn't always require money. Many people live with all that money can buy yet live empty inside. Abundance begins inside with some main self-ingredients,like love, care, kindness and gentleness, thoughtfulness and compassion.Abundance is a state of being. It radiates outward. It shines like the sun among the many moons in the world.Being from the brightness of abundance doesn't allow the darkness to appearor being in the path unless a choice to allow it to.The true state of abundance doesn't have roomfor lies or games normally played. The space is too full of abundance. This may be a challengebecause we still need to shine for others to see.Abundance is seeing people for their giftsand not what they lack or could be.Seeing all things for their gifts and not what they lack.Start by knowing what your abundances are, fill that space with you,and be fully present from that state of being.Your profession of choice is telling you this already.Examples: coaches have an abundance of knowing and possibilities. That is their gift.Consultants and customer service professionals have the abundance of success, practicality, in common.Administrative assistants and virtual assistantshave an abundance of coordination and time management. Abundance is all around you, and all within.See what it is; love yourself for what it is,not what you're missing, or what that can be better. But for what is, at this present moment.Be in a state of abundance of what you already have.I guarantee they are there; it always is buried but there.Breathe them in as if they are the air you breathebecause they are yours.Let go of anything that isn't abundant for the time being.Name the shoe boxes in your closet with your gifts of abundance; pull from them every morning if needed. Know they are there. Learning to trust in your own abundance is required. When you begin to be within your own space of abundance, whatever you need will appear whenever you need it.That's just the way the higher powers set this universe up to work. Trust the universal energy. The knowing of it all will humble you to its poweryet let the brightness of you shine everywhere it needs to.Just by being from a state of abundance, it is being you.3Get a Thorough Understanding of OneselfIn all one's life time it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with. But it is precisely oneself that one has the least understanding of.When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate yourself. It seems that everything you seek for is within your reach; luck and opportunities will come your way and you are overjoyed that they constitute part of your worth. When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself, mistaking difficulties and adversities for your own incompetence. It's likely that you think it wise for yourself to know your place and stay aloof from worldly wearing a mask of cowardice, behind which the flow of sap in your life will be retarded. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober realist—aware of both one's strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much, for ideals can never be fully realized. You may be courageous to meet challenges but it should be clear to you where to direct your efforts. That's to say so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there won't be difficulties you can't overcome, nor obstacles you can't surmount. To get a thorough understanding of oneself needs self-appreciation.Whether you liken yourself to a towering tree or a blade of grass, whether you think you are a high mountain or a small stone, you represent a state of nature that has its own raison deter. If you earnestly admire yourself you'll have a real sense of self-appreciation, which will give you confidence. As soon as you gain full confidence in yourself you'll be enabled to fight and overcome any adversity. To get a thorough understanding of oneself also requires doing oneself a favor when it's needed. In time of anger, do yourself a favor by giving vent to it in a quiet place so that you won't be hurt by its flames; in time of sadness, do yourself a favor by sharing it with your friends so as to change a gloomy mood into a cheerful one; in time of tiredness, do yourself a favor by getting a good sleep or taking some tonic. Show yourself loving concern about your health and daily life. As you are aware, what a person physically has is but a human body that's vulnerable when exposed to the elements. So if you fall ill, it's up to you to take a good care of yourself. Unless you know perfectly well when and how to do yourself a favor, you won't be confident and ready enough to resist the attack of illness. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to get a full control of one's life. Then one will find one's life full of color and flavor4 Mirror,Mirror—What do I SeeA loving person lives in a loving world.A hostile person lives in a hostile world.Everyone you meet is your mirror.Mirrors have a very particular function. They reflect the image in front of them.Just as a physical mirror serves as the vehicle to reflection,so do all of the people in our lives. When we see something beautiful such as a flower garden, that garden serves as a reflection. In order to see the beauty in front of us,we must be able to see the beauty inside of ourselves. When we love someone, it's a reflection of loving ourselves. We have often heard things like"I love how I am when I'm with that person."That simply translates into "I'm able to love mewhen I love that other person."Oftentimes, when we meet someone new,we feel as though we "click".Sometimes it's as if we've known each other for a long time. That feeling can come from sharing similarities.Just as the "mirror" or other person can be a positive reflection,it is more likely that we'll notice itwhen it has a negative connotation. For example, it's easy to remember timeswhen we have met someone we're not particularly crazy about. We may have some criticism in our mind about the person. This is especially truewhen we get to know someone with whom we would rather spend less time.Frequently, when we dislike qualities in other people, ironically, it's usually the mirror that's speaking to us.I began questioning myself further each time I encountered someone that I didn't particularly like. Each time, I asked myself,"What is it about that person that I don't like?" and then"Is there something similar in me?" in every instance,I could see a piece of that quality in me,and sometimes I had to really get very introspective. So what did that mean?It means that just as I can get annoyed or disturbedwhen I notice that aspect in someone else,I better reexamine my qualities and consider making some changes.Even if I'm not willing to make a drastic change,at least I consider how I might modify some of the things that I'm doing. At times we meet someone new and feel distant, disconnected, or disgusted.Although we don't want to believe it,and it's not easy or desirable to look further,it can be a great learning lesson to figure outwhat part of the person is being reflected in you. It's simply just another way to create more self-awareness.5 Growing RootsWhen I was growing up, I had an old neighbor named Dr. Gibbs. He didn't look like any doctor I'd ever known. He never yelled at us for playing in his yard.I remember him as someonewho was a lot nicer than circumstances warranted. When Dr. Gibbs wasn't saving lives, he was planting trees. His house sat on ten acres, and his life's goal was to make it a forest. The good doctor had some interesting theories concerning plant husbandr He came from the "No pain, no gain" school of horticulture. He never watered his new trees, which flew in the face of conventional wisdom.Once I asked why. He said that watering plants spoiled them, and that if you water them, each successive tree generation will grow weaker and weaker. So you have to make things rough for themand weed out the weenie trees early on.He talked about how watering trees made for shallow roots, and how trees that weren't watered had to grow deep roots in search of I took him to mean that deep roots were to be treasured.I planted a couple of trees a few years back.Carried water to them for a solid summer.Sprayed them. Prayed over them. The whole nine yards. Two years of coddling has resulted in treesthat expect to be waited on hand and foot.Whenever a cold wind blows in,they tremble and chatter their branches. Sissy trees.Funny things about those trees of Dr. Gibbs'.Adversity and deprivation seemed to benefit themin ways comfort and ease never could.Every night before I go to bed,I check on my two sons.I stand over them and watch their little bodies, the rising and falling of life within.I often pray for them.Mostly I pray that their lives will be easy. But lately I've been thinking that it's time to change my prayer. This change has to do with the inevitability of cold windsthat hit us at the core.I know my children are going to encounter hardship, and I'm praying they won't be naive. There's always a cold wind blowing somewhere. So I'm changing my prayer.Because life is tough, whether we want it to be or not.Too many times we pray for ease, but that's a prayer seldom met. What we need to do is pray for roots that reach deep into the Eternal, so when the rains fall and the winds blow,we won't be swept asunder.6 Restraints to SoarOne windy spring day,I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored creations of varying shapesand sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing. As the strong winds gusted against the kites,a string kept them in check.Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind.As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say:"Let me go! Let me go!I want to be free!" They soared beautifullyeven as they fought the restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose."Free at last." it seemed to say. "Free to fly with the wind."Yet freedom from restraintsimply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. It fluttered ungracefully to the groundand landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush."Free at last" free to lie powerless in the dirt,to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction. How much like kites we sometimes are.The Heaven gives us adversity and restrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of us tug at the rules so hard thatwe never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. Let us each rise to the great heights, recognizing thatsome of the restraints thatwe may chafe under are actually the steadying forcethat helps us ascend and achieve.7 On the Road, No BurdenTo a large degree, the measure of our peace of mind is determined byhow much we are able to live in the present moment.Irrespective of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are—always.Without question, many of us have mastered the neurotic art of spending much of our lives worrying about a variety of things—all at once.We allow past problems and future concerns to dominate our present moments,so much so that we end up anxious, frustrated, depressed, and hopeless. On the flip side,we also postpone our gratification, our stated priorities, and our happiness, often convincing ourselves that "someday" will be better than today. Unfortunately, the same mental dynamics that tell us to look toward the futurewill only repeat themselves so that "someday" never actually arrives. John Lennon once said:"Life is what's happening while we're busy making other plans." When we're busy making "other plans",our children are busy growing up,the people we love are moving away and dying, our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away.In short, we miss out on life. Many people live as if life were a dress rehearsal for some later date.It isn't. In fact,no one has a guarantee that he or she will be here tomorrow. Now is the only time we have, and the only time that we have any control over. When our attention is in the present moment,we push fear from our minds.Fear is the concern over eventsthat might happen in the future—we won' t have enough money, our children will get into trouble,we will get old and die, whatever. To combat fear, the best strategy is to learn to bring your attention back to the present. Mark Twain said:"I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened." I don't think I can say it any better.Practice keeping your attention on the here and now.Your efforts will pay great dividends.8 About YouthNo young man believes he will ever die.It was a saying of my brother's, and a fine one. There is a feeling of eternity in youth, which makes us amend for everything. To be young is to be as one of the immortal Gods. One half of time indeed is flown—the other half remains in store for us with all its countless treasures, for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to our hopes and wishes. We make the coming age our own—the vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.Death, old age are words without a meaningthat pass by us like the idea air which we regard not.Others may have undergone,or may still be liable to them—we "bear a charmed life",which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies. As in setting out on delightful journey,we strain our eager gaze forward—bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail! And see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as we advance. So, in the commencement of life,we set no bounds to our inclinations, nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them.We have as yet found no obstacle,no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever. We look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseless progress;and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it, and do not foresee from any present symptomshow we shall be left behind in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. It is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedness of our feelings in youth, that identifies us with nature, and deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it.Our short lives connexion with existence we fondly flatter ourselves is an indissoluble and lasting union—a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar, nor separation. As infants smile and sleep,we are rocked in the cradle of our wayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe around us—we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead of which it only overflows the more objects press around us, filling the mind with their magnitude andwith the strong of desires that wait upon them,so that we have no room for the thoughts of death.9 When Love Beckons YouWhen love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreamsas the north wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,so shall he descend to our roots and shake themin their clinging to the earth. But if, in your fear, you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakednessand pass out of love's threshing floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.Love possesses not,nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must have desires, let these be your desires:To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart andgive thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heartand a song of praise upon your lips.。

小编精心收集了适合朗读的英语文章,供大家欣赏学习!适合朗读的英语文章篇1When The Wind BlowsYears ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc(肆虐) on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. "Are you a good farmhand?" the farmer asked him."Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work. Then one night the wind howled(嚎叫,咆哮) loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!"The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire himon the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins(防水油布). The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops(笼子), and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.MORAL: When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he had secured the farm against the storm.适合朗读的英语文章篇2The Art of Bouncing BackI think the center of my faith is an absolute certainty of good. Like everyone else, I get low and there are times when I feel as if I have my fins backwards and am swimming upstream in heavy boots. But even in these dark times, even though I feel cut off, perhaps, and alone, I am aware - even if distantly - that I am part of a whole and that the whole is true and real and good.I have never had any difficultly in believing in God. I don't believe in a personal God and I don't quite see how it is possible to believe in a God who knows both good and evil and yet to trust in him. I believe in God, Good, in One Mind, and I believe we are all subject to and part of this oneness. It's taken me time to understand words like "tolerance" and "understanding." I have given lip service to "tolerance" and to "understanding" for years but only now do I think I begin to understand a little what they mean. If we are all one of another, and this, though uncomfortably, is probably the case, then sooner or later we have got to come to terms with each other. I believe in the individuality of man, and it is only by individual experience that we can, any of us, make a contribution to understanding.I've always been a bit confused about self and egotism(自负) because I instinctively felt both were barriers to understanding. And so in a sense they are.I used to worry a lot about personality and that sort of egotism. I noticed that certain artists - musicians, for instance - would allow their personalities to get between the music and the listener. But others, greater and therefore humbler, became clear channels through which the music was heard unimpeded(畅通无阻的). And it occurred to me, not very originally, that the good we know in man is from God so it is a good thing to try to keep oneself as clear as possible from the wrong sort of self. And it's not very easy, particularly if you are on the stage!I am one of those naturally happy people even when they get low soon bounce back. In minor things like housekeeping and keeping in sight of letters to be answered I am a Planny-Annie. That is to say I get through the chores in order to enjoy the space beyond. But I do find that, believing in the operation of good as I do, I cannot make plans - important ones, I mean - but I must prepare the ground and then leave the way free as far as possible. This, of course, means being fearless and isn't fatalistic, because you see I believe that when I am faithful enough to be still and to allow things to happen serenely, they do. And this being still isn't a negative state but an awareness of one's true position.Friends are the most important things in my life - that andthe wonder of being necessary to someone. But these things pass and in end one is alone with God. I'm not nearly ready for that yet, but I do see it with my heart's eye.I don't understand it entirely, but I believe there is only now and our job is to recognize and rejoice in this now. Now... Not, of course, the man-measured now of Monday, Friday, or whenever, but the now of certain truth. That doesn't change. Surely everything has been done - is done. Our little problem is to reveal and enjoy.适合朗读的英语文章篇3美国社会学家对大学毕业生的建议1. Don't worry about making your dreams come trueCollege graduates are often told: "follow your passion," do "what you love," what you were "meant to do," or "make your dreams come true." Two-thirds think they're going find a job that allows them to change the world, half within five years. Yikes. This sets young people up to fail. The truth is that the vast majority of us will not be employed in a job that is both our lifelong passion and a world-changer; that's just not the way our global economy is. So it's ok to set your sights just a tad below occupational ecstasy. Just find a job that you like. Use that job to help you have a full life with lots of good things and pleasure and helping others and stuff. A great life is pretty good, even if it's not perfect.2. Make friendsAmericans put far too much emphasis on finding Mr. or Ms. Right and getting married. We think this will bring us happiness. In fact, however, both psychological well-being and health are more strongly related to friendship. If you have good friends, you'll be less likely to get the common cold, less likely to die fromcancer, recover better from the loss of a spouse, and keep your mental acuity as you age. You'll also feel more capable of facing life's challenges, be less likely to feed depressed or commit suicide, and be happier in old age. Having happy friends increases your chance of being happy as much as an extra $145,500 a year does. So, make friends!3. Don't worry about being singleSingle people, especially women, are stigmatized(污辱,指责) in our society: we're all familiar with the image of a sad, lonely woman eating ice cream with her cats in her pajamas(睡衣) on Saturday night. But about 45 percent of US adults aren't married and around one in seven lives alone. This might be you. Research shows that young people's expectations about their marital status (e.g., the desire to be married by 30 and have kids by 32) have little or no relationship to what actually happens to people. So, go with the flow. And, if you're single, you're in good company. Single people spend more time with friends, volunteer more, and are more involved in their communities than married people. Never-married and divorced women are happier, on average, than married women. So, don't buy into the myth of the miserable singleton(独身).4. Don't take your ideas about gender and marriage too seriouslyIf you do get married, keep going with the flow. Relationship satisfaction, financial security, and happy kids are more strongly related to flexibility in the face of life's challenges than any particular way of organizing families. The most functional families are ones that can bend. So partnering with someone who thinks that one partner should support their families and theother should take responsibility for the house and children is a recipe for disaster. So is being equally rigid about non-traditional divisions of labor. It's okay to have ideas about how to organize your family but your best bet for happiness is to be flexible.5. Think hard about whether to buy a houseOur current image of the American Dream revolves around homeownership, and buying a home is often taken for granted as a stage on the path to full-fledge adulthood. But the ideal of universal home ownership was born in the 1950s. It's a rather new idea. With such a short history, it's funny that people often insist that buying a house is a fool-proof investment and the best way to secure retirement. In fact, buying a house may not be the best choice for you. The mortgage may be less than rent, but there are also taxes, insurance, and the increasingly common Home Owners Association (HOA) fees. You may someday sell the house for more than you bought it but, if you paid interest on a mortgage, you also paid far more than the sale price. You have freedom from a landlord, but may discover your HOA is just as controlling, or worse. And then there's the headache: renting relieves you from the stress of being responsible for repairs. It also offers a freedom of movement that you might cherish. So, think carefully about whether buying or renting is a better fit for your finances, lifestyle, and future goals.6. Think even harder about having kidsOne father had this to say about children: "They're a huge source of joy, but they turn every other source of joy to shit." In fact, having children correlates with both an increased sense of purpose in life and a long-lasting decrease in individual and marital happiness. Having kids means spending a lot of yourshort life and limited income on one source of joy. You have only so much time and money and there are lots of ways to find satisfaction, pleasure, and meaning in this life. Consider all your options.。

下⾯是由®⽆忧考⽹带来的适合英语朗读的段落精选,欢迎阅读!【篇⼀】适合英语朗读的段落精选 Love Your Life However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace. The town's poor seem to me often to live the most independent lives of any. May be they are simply great enough to receive without misgiving. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means. Which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends, Turn the old, return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.【篇⼆】适合英语朗读的段落精选 A Smile is A Gift That Anyone Can Give It costs nothing, but saves much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash, and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich that he can get along without it; none so poor that he is not enriched by it. It creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sick, and nature's best antidote for trouble. It cannot be bought, borrowed, or stolen, for it is no earthly good to anyone until it is given away. If you meet someone too burdened with grief or worry to smile, just give him one of yours. For nobody needs a smile so much as he who has none left to give.【篇三】适合英语朗读的段落精选 Nothing succeeds lacks confidence. When you are truly and justifiably confident, it radiates from you like sunlight, and attracts success to you like a magnet. It's important to believe in yourself. Believe that you can do it under any circumstances, because if you believe you can, then you really will. The belief keeps you searching for answers, which means that pretty soon you will get them. Confidence is more than an attitude. It comes from knowing exactly where you are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from acting with integrity and confidence. It comes from a strong sense of purpose. It comes from a strong commitment to take responsibility, rather than just letting life happen. One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get a record of successful experiences behind you. Confidence is compassionate and understanding. It is not arrogant. Arrogance is born out of fear and insecurity, while confidence comes from strength and integrity. Confidence is not just believing you can do it. Confidence is knowing you can do it.Know that you are capable of accomplishing anything you want, and live your life with confidence. Anything can be achieved through focused, determined effort and self-confidence. If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live your priorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment with your priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want.【篇四】适合英语朗读的段落精选 The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it‘s time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.。

一方面,在朗诵的准备阶段能够提高学习者的听力水平,另一方面通过朗诵,能够提高阅读理解能力。

下面是店铺带来的适合朗读的英语文章,欢迎阅读!适合朗读的英语文章1The Elements of SuccessI don’t believe that there is any one recipe for success. Instead, I believe success is the result of a combination of a lot of different factors - and not all of them are needed for success. The more factors you have on your side, the more likely you are to succeed, and positive attitude is just one of those factors. Here are seven additional factors that are also important.Knowledge A strong body of knowledge about the area in which you wish to succeed is often one of the key building blocks of success. You can build this by pushing yourself - read and try out the foundational materials and push yourself into challenging areas to build your knowledge.Natural talent Some people are born with a predisposition to succeed in certain areas. Find this out for yourself by trying a lot of different activities and seeing what comes easy to you. The things you do with little or no effort that genuinely impress others are likely very near your natural talent, and natural talent combined with a lot of hard work leads to greatness.Clear goals and planning Much like a trip, it’s a lot easier to get where you want to go if you know where you’re going and spend the time to plan the route you’ll take to get there. Think about what your definition of success exactly is, then identify some of the things that need to be done to help you move towards it.Passion An intense, burning desire to dig deep into a particular area is often a sign that you’ll find success there. Much as with your natural talent, the way to find your passion is to touch on a lot of different areas and see what resonates for you.Focus/consistent effort Hard work is another key to finding success. You don’t become a champion without practicing every day. If you want to succeed in a certain area, work hard in that area and go beyond what others are doing - deliberate practice is one big key.Luck/opportunity Luck and opportunity also play an important role in success - sometimes things just click due to forces outside your control. You can improve your luck by making as many strong personal contacts as you can and sharing what you have to increase their “luck” and “opportunities.”Cooperation/support Along with luck comes cooperation - the fact that others are working in small ways to help you succeed rather than hinder you. A spouse telling you that you can do this is going to go a lot further than a spouse telling you you’ll never make it.我不认为成功有任何的秘诀.相反,我相信成功是多种因素结合的结果,其中有些因素对于成功是不必要的。

One of them said to Mrs. Brown, “The poor old gentleman lost his way in the park and telephoned us for help, so we sent a car to bring him home.” Mrs. Brown was very surprised, but she thanked the policemen and they left.“But Grandfather,” she then said, “ you have been to that near park every day for twenty years. How did you lose your way there?”The old man smiled, closed one eye and said, “ I didn‟t quite lose my way. I just got tired and I didn‟t want to walk home!”2 Mid-Autumn FestivalMid-Autumn Festival usually comes in September or October. On that day families get together to celebrate(庆祝)the full moon. They usually sit outside in the open air at the table. On the table there‟re moon cakes, frui t, peanuts, water chestnuts (菱角)and so on. Adults tell the young people the story of Chang‟e and that of the moon cake. In China there‟re three main(主要的)traditional(传统的)festivals. Besides Mid-Autumn Festival, they are Dragon Boat Festival and Spring Festival. On every festival we have a big dinner. From January to December there‟s almost(几乎)a festival or holiday in each month.3 When in Rome ,do as ROMANS doBefore you go to another country, it is a great help if you know the language and some of the customs of the country. When people meet each other for the first time in Britain, they say, “How do you do?” and shake hands. Usually they do not shake hands after they haven‟t met for a long time or when they will be away from each other for a long time.Last year a group of German students went to England for a holiday. Their teacher told them that the English people hardly shake hands. So when they met their English friends at the station, they kept their hands behind their backs. The English students hadlearned the Germans shake hands as often as possible, so they put their hands in front and got ready to shake hands with them. It made both of them laugh.4 Such a judge!A judge was working in his room one day when a neighbour ran in and said ,“If one man's cow kills another's ,I s the owner of the first cow responsible?”“It depends”, answered the judge.“Well” ,said the man “your cow has killed mine”.“Oh” ,answered the judge .“Everyone knows that a cow cannot think like a man ,so a cow is not re sponsible ,and that means that its owner is not responsible either.”“I am sorry ,Judge” ,said the man .“I made a mistake .I meant that my cow killed yours.”The judge thought for a few seconds and then said , “When I think about it more carefully ,this c ase is not as easy as I thought at first.” And then he turned to his clerk and said , “Please bring me that big black book from the shelf behind you.”5 The SunThere is nothing more important in life than the sun. Without the sun all living things on Earth would die.The sun is a star. In the sky there are thousands of stars like the sun. They are as large as the sun and as hot as the sun. At night you can see many stars, but in day-time you can only see one star- the sun. The sun is much nearer to us than any other stars. That is why it looks like the biggest and brightest of all the stars. The distance of the sun from the Earth is as much as 150 million kilometers. Most of the stars are thousands of light years away from the Earth. Do you know what a light year is? Nothing in the world travels faster than light. It travels 300,000 kilometers a second. One light year is the distance that light travels in one year.6 PandasPandas are lovely animals. Most of them live in the deep forests of Sichuan Province in China. They have white fur, though their shoulders, legs, ears and eyes are black. Pandas are usually very heavy, some of them can be about 1.5 meters tall and weigh about100 kilograms. However, pandas are very agile, they can climb trees as easily as some other creatures(生物)do. Pandas have big, sharp teeth and live mainly on bamboo leaves. Every day each grown-up panda eats about 15-30 kilograms of bamboo leaves and they usually spend 10-12 hours eating. Pandas also have spare-time hobbies. Two of their hobbies are climbing trees and sleeping. Sadly, there are not many pandas left in the world because some people keep cutting down trees, and badhunters are trying to kill them for money. The Chinese government is doing its best to protect pandas from being harmed or killed.7 The Diet.Mrs. Tan is worried about her weight, so she goes to see a doctor. “Oh, I‟m too fat, I need to lose a lot of weight.” “It isn‟t difficult to lose weight,” the doctor says. “All you need to do is go on a diet. I‟ll give you one.” The doctor takes out a piece of paper and writes “Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Also, eat a lot of lean meat and grains.” The doctor hands the paper to Mrs. Tan. “Eat all those things and you‟ll soon lose weight.”A few weeks later, Mrs. T an‟s friend visits her. Her friend is surprised to see that Mrs. Tan is even fatter than before and she is eating a huge sandwich with chocolate and ice cream. “I thought you were on a diet,” her friend says. “Oh, I am.” Mrs. Tan answers. “I‟ve already had all the food on my diet today. Now I‟m having my dinner.”8 I’m not a poor old manIt was a beautiful spring morning. There wasn‟t a cloud in the sky, and the sun was warm but not too hot, so Mr. Andrews was surprised when he saw an old gentleman at the bus-stop with a big, strong black umbrella in his hand.Mr. Andrews said to him, “Are we going to have rain today, do you think?”“ No,” said the gentleman,” I don‟t think so.”“ Then are you carrying the umbrella to keep the sun off you ?”“No, the sun is not very hot in spring.”Mr. Andrews looked at the big umbrella again, and the gentleman said, “ I am an old man, and my legs are not very strong, so I really need a walking- stick. But when I carry a walking-stick, people say, “Look at that poor old man”, and I don‟t like that. When I carry an umbrella in fine weather, people only say, “Look at that stupid man!”9 Seeing aliens 目击外星人A 13-year-old boy and his younger sister are playing on a farm.
