It evaluates the writer﹣reader relationship.B. Itˈs a window to a whole new world.C. Itˈs a substitute for drinking with a friend.D. It extends the understanding of oneself.5.What do we know about the book A Moveable Feast?A. Itˈs a brief account of a trip.B. Itˈs about Hemingwayˈs life as a young man.C. Itˈs a record of a his toric event.D. Itˈs about Hemingwayˈs friends in Paris.6.What does the underlined word "currency" in paragraph 4 refer toA. Debt.B. Reward.C. Allowance.D. Face value.7.What can we infer about the author from the text?A. He loves poetry.B. Heˈs an edi tor.C. Heˈs very ambitious.D. He teaches reading.(2021·安徽省池州市·模拟题)CRace walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It's this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to mostcalculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,0000 or more calories per hour. However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport's strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.8.Why are race walkers conditioned athletes?A. They must run long distances.B. They are qualified for the marathon.C. They have to follow special rules.D. They are good at swinging their legs.9.What advantage dose race walking have over runningA. It's more popular at the Olympics.B. It's less challenging physically.C. It's more effective in body building.D. It's less likely to cause knee injuries.10.What is Dr. Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking?A. Getting experts' opinions.B. Having a medical checkup.C. Hiring an experienced coach.D. Doing regular exercises.11.Which word best describes the author's attitude to race walkingA. Skeptical.B. Objective.C. Tolerant.D. Conservative. (2021·广东省·单元测试)DThe connection between people and plants has long been the subject of scientific research. Recent studies have found positive effects. A study conducted in Youngstown, Ohio, forexample, discovered that greener areas of the city experienced less crime. In another, employees were shown to be 15% more productive when their workplaces were decorated with houseplants. The engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have taken it a step further—changing the actual composition of plants in order to get them to perform diverse, even unusual functions. These include plants that have sensors printed onto their leaves to show when they're short of water and a plant that can detect harmful chemicals in groundwater. "We're thinking about how we can engineer plants to replace functions of the things that we use every day," explained Michael Strano, a professor of chemical engineering at MIT.One of his latest projects has been to make plants glow (发光) in experiments using some common vegetables. Strano's team found that they could create a faint light for three-and-a-half hours. The light, about one-thousandth of the amount needed to read by, is just a start. The technology, Strano said, could one day be used to light the rooms or even to turn trees into self-powered street lamps. In the future, the team hopes to develop a version of the technology that can be sprayed onto plant leaves in a on-off treatment that would last the plant's lifetime. The engineers are also trying to develop an on and off "switch" where the glow would fade when exposed to daylight. Lighting accounts for about 7% of the total electricity consumed in the US. Since lighting is often far removed from the power source (电源)—such as the distance from a power plant to street lamps on a remote highway—a lot of energy is lost during transmission (传输). Glowing plants could reduce this distance and therefore help save energy.12.What is the first paragraph mainly about?A. A new study of different plants.B. A big fall in crime rates.C. Employees from various workplaces.D. Benefits from green plants.13.What is the function of the sensors printed on plant leaves by MIT engineersA. To detect plants' lack of water.B. To change compositions of plants.C. To make the life of plants longer.D. To test chemicals in plants.14.What can we expect of the glowing plants in the future?A. They will speed up energy production.B. They may transmit electricity to the home.C. They might help reduce energy consumption.D. They could take the place of power plants.15.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Can we grow more glowing plants?B. How do we live with glowing plants?C. Could glowing plants replace lamps?D. How are glowing plants made pollution-free?二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分)(2021·湖北省·单元测试)A Few Tips for Self-AcceptanceWe all want it …to accept and love ourselves. But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach. Worse,it was beginning to sway(晃动).The authorities closed access to the bridge and tens of thousands of peoplemade their way back to land.A disaster was avoided. The story is one of scores in To Forgive Design:Understanding Failure,a book that is at once a love letter to engineering and a paean(赞歌)to its breakdowns. Its author,Dr.Henry Petroski, has long been writing about disasters. In this book,he includes the loss of the space shuttles(航天飞机)Challenger and Columbia, and thesinking of the Titanic.Though he acknowledges that engineering works can fail because the person who thought them up or engineered them simply got things wrong,in this book Dr.Petroski widens his view to consider the larger context in which such failures occur.Sometimes devices fail because a good design is constructed with low quality materials incompetently applied.Or perhaps a design works so well it is adopted elsewhere again and again, with seemingly harmless improvements, until, suddenly,it does not work at all anymore.Readers will encounter not only stories they have heard before, but some new stories and a moving discussion of the responsibility of the engineer to the public and the ways young engineers can be helped to grasp them."Success is success but that is all that it is,"Dr.Petroski writes. It is failure that brings improvement.28.What happened to the Golden Gate Bridge on its50th birthday?()A.It carried more weight than it could.B.It swayed violently in a strong windC.Its roadway was damaged by vehiclesD.Its access was blocked by many people.29.Which of the following is Dr.Petroski's idea according to paragraph3?()A.No design is well received everywhereB.Construction is more important than design.C.Not all disasters are caused by engineering designD.Improvements on engineering works are necessary.30.What does the last paragraph suggest?()A.Failure can lead to progress.B.Success results in overconfidenceC.Failure should be avoided.D.Success comes from joint efforts.31.What is the text?()A.A news reportB.A short story.C.A book reviewD.A research article.DRainforests are home to a rich variety of medicinal plants, food, birds and animals. Can you believe that a single bush(灌木丛)in the Amazon may have more species of ants than the whole of Britain!About480varieties of trees may be found in just one hectare of rainforest.Rainforests are the lungs of the planet-storing vast quantities of carbon dioxide and producing a significant amount of the world's oxygen.Rainforests have their own perfect system for ensuring their own survival;the tall trees make a canopy(树冠层)of branches and leaves which protect themselves, smaller plants, and the forest animals from heavy rain, intense dry heat from the sun and strong winds.Amazingly, the trees grow in such a way that their leaves and branches, although close together, never actually touch those of another tree.Scientists think this is the plants'way to prevent the spread of any tree diseases and make life more difficult for leaf-eating insects like caterpillars. To survive in the forest, animals must climb, jump or fly across the gaps. The ground floor of the forest is not all tangled leaves and bushes, like in films, but is actually fairly clear. It is where dead leaves turn into food for the trees and other forest life. They are not called rainforests for nothing!Rainforests can generate75%of their own rain.At least80inches of rain a year is normal-and in some areas there may be as much as430inches of rain annually. This is real rain-your umbrella may protect you in a shower, but it won't keep you dry if there is a full rainstorm. In just two hours, streams can rise ten to twenty feet. The humidity(湿气)of large rainforests contributes to the formation of rainclouds that may travel to other countries in need of rain.32.What can we learn about rainforests from the first paragraph?()A.They produce oxygen.B.They cover a vast area.C.They are well managed.D.They are rich in wildlife.33.Which of the following contributes most to the survival of rainforests?()A.Heavy rainsB.Big trees.C.Small plants.D.Forest animals.34.Why do the leaves and branches of different trees avoid touching each other?()A.For more sunlight.B.For more growing space.C.For self-protection.D.For the detection of insects.35.What can be a suitable title for the text?()A.Life-Giving RainforestsB.The Law of the JungleC.Animals in the AmazonD.Weather in Rainforests第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

Thats what I learnt from my new and special friend. On the first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didnt know.I looked around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady with a smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose, Im eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” She gave me a giant squeeze. “Why are you in college at such a young. Innocent age?” I asked jokingly. “I always dreamed of having a college education and now Im getting one!” she replied. After class we walked to the Students Union building and shared a chocolate milkshake there. We became instant friends.Every day of the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends whenever she went. At the endof the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football dinner. Ill never forget what she taught us.“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow old. That doesnt take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunities in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually dont have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.”She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Song of Rose. No school I have taught in has ever ignored spelling or considered it unimportant as a basic skill. There are, however, different ideas about how to teach it, or how much priority it must be given over general language development and writing ability. The problem is how to encourage a child to express himself freely and confidently in writing without holding him back with the complexities of spelling. If spelling becomes the only focal point of his teachers interest, clearly a bright child will be likely to “play safe”. He will tend to write only words within his spelling range, choosing to avoid adventurous language. Thats why teachers often encourage the early use of dictionaries and pay attention to content rather than technical ability.I was once shocked to read on the bottom of a sensitive piece of writing about a personal experience: “This work is terrible! There are far too many spelling errors and your writing is terrible.” It may have been a sharp criticism of the pupils technical abilities in writing, but it was also a sad reflection on the teacher who had omitted to read the essay, which contained some beautiful expressions of the childs deep feelings. The teacher was not wrong to draw attention to the errors, but if his priorities had centered on the childs ideas, an expression of his disappointment with the presentation would have given the pupil more motivation to seek improvement.32.Teachers are different in their opinions about _________.A.the difficulties in teaching spellingB.the necessity of teaching spellingC.the complexities of the basic writing skillsD.the role of spelling in general language development33.The underlined expression “play safe” probably means “________”.A.to write carefullyB.to avoid using words one is not sure ofC.to use dictionaries frequentlyD.to do as teachers say34.Teachers encourage the use of dictionaries so that ________.A.students will have less trouble in correcting mistakesB.students will have more confidence in writingC.students will be able to express their ideas more freelyD.students will learn to be independent of teachers35.The major point discussed in the passage is _______.A.the relationship between spelling and the content of a compositionB.the importance of developing writing skillsC.the correct way of marking compositionsD.the complexities of spelling第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)When you live in America, it is not uncommon to see many children coming home from school to an empty house. 36 Some may hide. But all of them have something in common. It never came to my mind what they meant.” 38 .She and her husband began talking to the children. A dirty stream, for example, often became clear after flowing through plants and along rocks where tiny creatures lived. When he got older, John started to wonder if this process could be used to clean up the messes people were making. After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions. Why can certain plants trap harmful bacteria (细菌)? Which kinds of fish can eat cancer-causing chemicals? With the right combination of animals and plants, he figured, maybe he could clean up waste the way nature did. He decided to build what he would later call an eco-machine.The task John set for himself was to remove harmful substances from some sludge (污泥). First, he constructed a series of clear fiberglass tanks connected to each other. Then he went around to local ponds and streams and brought back some plants and animals. He placed them in the tanks and waited. Little by little, these different kinds of life got used to one another and formed their own ecosystem. After a few weeks, John added the sludge. He was amazed at the results. The plants and animals in the eco-machine took the sludge as food and began to eat it! Within weeks, it had all been digested, and all that was left was pure water.Over the years, John has taken on many big jobs. He developed a greenhouse-like facility that treated sewage (污水) from 1,600 homes in South Burlington. He also designed an eco-machine to clean canal water in Fuzhou, a city in southeast China."Ecological design" is the name John gives to what he does. "Life on Earth is kind of a box of spare parts for the inventor," he says. "You put organisms in new relationships and observe what's happening. Then you let these new systems develop their own ways to self-repair."4.What can we learn about John from the first two paragraphs?A.He was fond of traveling.B.He enjoyed being alone.C.He had an inquiring mind.D.He longed to be a doctor.5.Why did John put the sludge into the tanks?A.To feed the animals.B.To build an ecosystem.C.To protect the plants.D.To test the eco-machine.6.What is the author's purpose in mentioning Fuzhou?A.To review John's research plans.B.To show an application of John's idea.C.To compare John's different jobs.D.To erase doubts about John's invention.7.What is the basis for John's work?A.Nature can repair itself.B.Organisms need water to survive.C.Life on Earth is diverse.D.Most tiny creatures live in groups.阅读理解The goal of this book is to make the case for digital minimalism, including a detailed exploration of what it asks and why it works, and then to teach you how to adopt this philosophy if you decide it's right for you.To do so, I divided the book into two parts. In part one, I describe the philosophical foundations of digital minimalism, starting with an examination of the forces that are making so many people's digital lives increasingly intolerable, before moving on to a detailed discussion of the digital minimalism philosophy.Part one concludes by introducing my suggested method for adopting this philosophy: the digital declutter. This process requires you to step away from optional online activities for thirty days. At the end of the thirty days, you will then add back a small number of carefully chosen online activities that you believe will provide massive benefits to the things you value. In the final chapter of part one, I'll guide you through carrying out your own digital declutter. In doing so, I'll draw on an experiment I ran in 2018 in which over 1,600 people agreed to perform a digital declutter. You'll hear these participants' stories and learn what strategies worked well for them, and what traps they encountered that you should avoid. The second part of this book takes a closer look at some ideas that will help you cultivate (培养) a sustainable digital minimalism lifestyle. In these chapters, I examine issues such as the importance of solitude (独处) and the necessity of cultivating high-quality leisure to replace the time most now spend on mindless device use. Each chapter concludes with a collection of practices, which are designed to help you act on the big ideas of the chapter. You can view these practices as a toolbox meant to aid your efforts to build a minimalist lifestyle that works for your particular circumstances.8.What is the book aimed at?A.Teaching critical thinking skills.B.Advocating a simple digital lifestyle.C.Solving philosophical problems.D.Promoting the use of a digital device.9.What does the underlined word "declutter" in paragraph 3 mean?A.Clear-up.B.Add-on.C.Check-in.D.Take-over. 10.What is presented in the final chapter of part one?A.Theoretical models.B.Statistical methods.C.Practical examples.D.Historical analyses.11.What does the author suggest readers do with the practices offered in part two?A.Use them as needed.B.Recommend them to friends.C.Evaluate their effects.D.Identify the ideas behind them.阅读理解On March 7, 1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the "wisdom of crowds" effect. The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren't always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and some to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate. If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won't cancel each other out. In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people's estimates be independent. If for whatever reasons, people's errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. But a new study led by Joaquin Navajas offered an interesting twist (转折) on this classic phenomenon. The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. Did they tend to go with those most confident about their estimates? Did they follow those least willing to change their minds? This happened some of the time, but itwasn't the dominant response. Most frequently, the groups reported that they "shared arguments and reasoned together." Somehow, these arguments and reasoning resulted in a global reduction in error. Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain, the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous.12.What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?A.The methods of estimation.B.The underlying logic of the effect.C.The causes of people's errors.D.The design of Galton's experiment.13.Navajas' study found that the average accuracy could increase even if________.A.the crowds were relatively smallB.there were occasional underestimatesC.individuals did not communicateD.estimates were not fully independent14.What did the follow-up study focus on?A.The size of the groups.B.The dominant members.C.The discussion process.D.The individual estimates.15.What is the author's attitude toward Navajas' studies?A.Unclear.B.Dismissive.C.Doubtful.D.Approving.二、任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues.“They get outside,”she says,“and they feel successful.”4.What do we know about Abby Jaramillo?A.She used to be a health worker.B.She grew up in a low-income family. Adults are portrayed(描绘)alone in many settings and poses—absorbed in a volume, deep in thought or lost in a moment of leisure. These scenes may have been painted hundreds ofbut it’s unusual to find places in a city that are relatively wild.Past research has found health and wellness benefits of nature for humans, but a new study shows that wildness in urban areas is extremely important for human well-being.The research team focused on a large urban park. They surveyed several hundredpark-goers,asking them to submit a written summary online of a meaningful interaction they had with nature in the park. The researchers then examined these submissions, coding(编码) experiences into different categories. For example, one participant’s experience of“We sat and listened to the waves at the beach for a while”was assigned the categories“sitting at beach”and“listening to waves.”Across the320submissions,a pattern of categories the researchers call a“nature language”began to emerge. After the coding of all submissions, half a dozen categories were noted most often as important to visitors. These include encountering wildlife, walking along the edge of water, and following an established trail.Naming each nature experience creates a usable language, which helps people recognize and take part in the activities that are most satisfying and meaningful to them. For example, the experience of walking along the edge of water might be satisfying for a young professional on a weekend hike in the park.Back downtown during a workday, they can enjoy a more domestic form of this interaction by walking along a fountain on their lunch break.“We’re trying to generate a language that helps bring the human-nature interactions back into our daily lives. And for that to happen,we also need to protect nature so that we can interact with it,”said Peter Kahn,a senior author of the study.12.What phenomenon does the author describe at the beginning of the text? A.Pocket parks are now popular.B.Wild nature is hard to find in cities. C.Many cities are overpopulated.D.People enjoy living close to nature. 13.Why did the researchers code participant submissions into categories?A.To compare different types of park-goers.B.To explain why the park attracts tourists. C.To analyze the main features of the park.D.To find patterns in the visitors’summaries.14.What can we learn from the example given in paragraph5?A.Walking is the best way to gain access to nature.B.Young people are too busy to interact with nature.2.

The Foreign Minister said, "_______ our hope that the two sideswill work towards peace."A. This isB. There isC. That isD.
We keep in touch _____ writing often。
A. withB. ofC. onD. by解析:许多同学根据 keep in touch with(与.....保持联系)这一搭配推断出此题应选A。
但是选A错了,因为套此搭配此句意思不通,正确答案应是D,by 表示方式,bywriting 意为"通过写信",全句意为"我们通过经常写信保持联系"。
请再看两例:(1) We've talked a lot _____ cars. What about trains?A. ofB. withC. aboutD. in解析:由于受 a lot of 这一常用结构的影响,许多同学毫不犹豫地选了A,但是错了。

AMy color television has given me nothing but a headache. I was able to buy it a little over a year ago because I had my relatives give me money for my birthday instead of a lot of clothes that wouldn’t fit. I let a salesclerk fool me into buying a discontinued model, I realized this a day late, when I saw newspaper advertisements for the set at seventy-five dollars less than I had paid,The set worked so beautifully when I first got it home that I would keep it on until stations signed off for the night, Fortunately, I didn’t got any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed. Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static (静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it, I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it to remove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm muscles(肌肉) shaking my set. When neither of these methods removed the static noise ,I would sit helplessly and wait for the noise to go away. At last I ended up hitting the set with my fist, and it stopped working altogether .My trip to the repair shop cost me $62, and the set is working well now, but I keep expecting more trouble.21.Why did the author say he was fooled into buying the TV set?A. He got an older model than he had expected.B. He couldn’t return it when it was broken.C. He could have bought it at a lower price.D. How does the anthor sound when telling the story ?A. CuriousB. AnxiousC. CautiousD. HumorousBYour house may have an effect on your figure . Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off . You can make your environment work for you instead of against you . Here are some ways to turn your home into part of diet plan.Open the curtains and turn up the lights . Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating , for people are often less self-conscious(难为情)when they’re in poorly lit places-and so more likely to eat lots of food . If your home doesn’t have enough window light , get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.Mind the colors . Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites . In one study , peoplewho ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room . Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing , while cold colors make us feel less hungry . So when it’s time to repaint , go blue.Don’t forget the clock-or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories(卡路里)per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes, And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down , turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.Downsize the dishes, Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one ,total intake(摄入)jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.25.The text is especially helpful for those who care about_______.A. their home comfortsB. their body shapeC. house buyingD. healthy diets26.A home environment in blue can help people_________.A. digest food betterB. reduce food intakeC. burn more caloriesD. regain their appetites27.What are people advised to do at mealtimes?A. It used to be called the “year off” between school and university. The gap-year phenomenon originated(起源) with the months left over to Oxbridge applicants between entrance exams in November and the start of the next academic year. This year, 25,310 students who have accepted places in higher education institutions have put off their entry until next year, according to statistics on university entrance provided by University and College Admissions Serbice(UCAS).That is a record 14.7% increase in the number of students taking a gap year. Students who take a gap year are often more mature and responsible,” he said. But not everyone is happy. Owain James, the president of the National Union of Students(NUS), argued that the increase is evidence of student had ship – young people are being forced into earning money before finishing their education. “New students are now aware thatthey are likely to leave university up to £15,000 in debt. It is not surprising that more and more students are taking a gap year to earn money to support their study for the degree. US statistics show that over 40% of students are forced to work during term time and the figure increases to 90% during vacation periods,” he said.29.
