Books without any pictures are kind of boring for kids like me.Anyway, Alice spots a White Rabbit wearing a waistcoat and talking to itself, which is already pretty weird. But then it takes out a watch and says "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!" and runs off. Alice was so curious that she just had to follow it down a rabbit hole! While falling, she sees all sorts of wacky things like bookshelves and maps on the walls. She even grabs a jar of orange marmalade off one of the shelves and eats some! I love orange marmalade so I was kind of jealous. She can't get through any of themat first. Then she discovers a little door about fifteen inches high. When she peeks through, she sees the most beautiful garden you could imagine. Of course, the door is way too tiny for her to fit through. Kids can relate to that problem of things being too small for us!That's when Alice spots a glass table with a little golden key on it. She uses the key to unlock the tiny door, but then realizes she's still massive compared to the small door. So she starts crying a huge pool of tears on the floor! I also loved how they celebrated "un-birthdays" instead of regular birthdays. An un-birthday party every day? Sign me up!The Cheshire Cat was another super weird but awesome character. I loved how he could disappear and reappear, leaving just his big grin behind. And he always spoke in such confusing riddles, like "We're all mad here!" It was funny but also kind of creepy how he would show up unexpectedly. I'd be a little scared if a grinning, disappearing cat started following me around!I felt really bad for Alice a lot of the time though. It must have been so frustrating and lonely to be stuck in the crazy, nonsensical world of Wonderland where nothing made any sense. Like when she couldn't get through the tiny door into the beautiful garden because she was too big. Or when her neck stretched super long after drinking the bottle. Or honestly, just trying to have a normal conversation with any of the wacky Wonderland creatures! I'd be going crazy too if I was her.But Alice handled it all with a lot of patience and even started going a little mad herself by the end, which I thought was hilarious. When she declared herself as "The Queen" during that weird game of caucus race, I was cracking up. You go, Alice! Though I wouldn't want to mess with the real Queen ofHearts...yikes! That lady was terrifying. "Off with their heads!" No thank you, your majesty.The scenes with the Duchess, the Gryphon, the Mock Turtle, and the crazy Red Queen's game were all so ridiculous and silly too. I loved the talking animals and creatures, even if they didn't make a lot of sense. It was just such a weirdly wonderful world that Mr. Carroll created. Reading it kind of felt like I was Alice, falling down my own crazy rabbit hole of imagination and nonsense. Which was awesome!By the end though, I was relieved for Alice when she finally woke up from her bizarre dream in Wonderland. I can't imagine having to live in that kind of madness all the time. A little bit of Wonderland madness is fun, but I'll stick to the regular real world, thank you very much! No shrinking candies or talking animals for me. Reality can be pretty boring compared to a world of pure madness and imagination running wild.If you ask me, the lesson Alice learned is that you shouldn't be afraid to use your creativity and think in different, unconventional ways.
