What can we learn about the world's climate goals from the WMO report?______A. They are unrealistic.B. They are easy to reach.C. They are taken seriously.D. They are far from being achieved.9. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?______A. The economic losses in Europe.B. The causes of the climate crisis in Europe.C. The increase of extreme weather in Europe.D. The most destructive natural disaster in Europe.10. What is Buontempo's attitude towards Europe's effort to fight climate change?______A. Doubtful.B. Favorable.C. Unclear.D. Intolerant.11. What should Europe do to further cut emissions according to Taalas?______A. Take the lead.B. Set a higher goal.C. Make better preparations.D. Carry on their good work.DU.S.teens spend more than eight hours a day on screens, and there's growing concern over how social media may affect their mental health. Now,a new study has found that limiting screen time to about one hour a day helped anxious teens feel better about their body image and their appearance. The study arose from the personal experience of Helen Thai,a doctoral student in psychology at McGill University."What I noticed when I was engaging in social media was that I couldn't help but compare myself,"Thai says. She was well aware that social media posts often feature polished, airbrushed or filtered images that can alter(改变)appearances in an unrealistic way,but it still affected her negatively. So,Thai and a team of researchers decided to test whether cutting time on social media platforms including Instagram,TikTok and Snapchat would improve body image. They recruited a few hundred volunteers, all of whom had experienced symptoms of anxiety or depression, which could make them vulnerable to the effects of social media.Half of the participants were asked to reduce their social media to 60 minutes a day for three weeks while the other half continued to use social media with no restrictions, which averaged about three hours per day.The researchers gave the participants surveys at the beginning and end of the study, which included statements such as"I'm pretty happy about the way I look,"and"I am satisfied with my weight."Among the group that cut social media use,the overall score on appearance improved from 2.95 to 3.15 on a 5-point scale. This may seem like a small change, but any shift in such a short period of time is striking, the authors say."The study is encouraging, but it only included people who had symptoms of anxiety or depression. It's worth evaluating this approach with other groups, such as people with or at risk of eating disorders. It's also possible that the benefits of cutting back could extend more broadly to anyone in this age group,"says Psychologist Andrea Graham,co-director of the Center for Behavioral Intervention at Northwestern University.12. What problem may social media bring to teenagers according to Thai?______A. They may become addicted to the Internet.B. They tend to become sensitive to others' comments.C. They may have unrealistic expectations of their image.D. They tend to compare themselves with the images posted online.13. What can we learn about the participants during the study?______A. They scored their appearance twice.B. Half of them stopped using social media.C. They hoped to improve their body image.D. Most of them showed dissatisfaction with their weight.14. What did Graham think of the study______A. It was a good try but had limitations.B. It was well designed but poorly conducted.C. It was a failure but the methods deserved praise.D. It was encouraging but the evidence was unreliable.15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?______A. Shorter Screen Time,Better Feelings on LookB. How to Help Teenagers Limit Screen timeC. How Social Media Changes TeenagersD. Less Anxiety,Better Image二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共12.5分)Any time of the day you can commit to exercising is a good time for getting active. However, the best time for exercise is different for each person. 欧洲三大工人运动:工人阶级的历史斗争和社会主义运动

欧洲三大工人运动:工人阶级的历史斗争和社会主义运动The history of Europe is marked by several significant workers' movements that have shaped the course of the working class struggle and socialist movement. In this article, we will explore the three major workers' movements in Europe, namely the Chartism movement in the United Kingdom, the Paris Commune in France, and the Russian Revolution.1. Chartism Movement (1838-1848):The Chartism movement emerged in the mid-19th century in the United Kingdom, during a time of increasing industrialization and social inequality. Chartists demanded political and social reforms, including universal suffrage, secret ballots, and the abolition of property qualifications for Members of Parliament. The movement gained significant support from the working class, as they faced appalling working and living conditions. Chartists organized mass demonstrations, strikes, and petitions to demand their rights. However, despite theirefforts, the movement ultimately failed to achieve its goals. Nonetheless, the Chartism movement laid the foundation for future workers' movements and influenced the fight for workers' rights in the UK.1. 《宪章运动》(1838-1848):《宪章运动》于19世纪中期在英国兴起,当时工业化和社会不平等问题日益加剧。

A dirty stream, for example, often became clear after flowing through plants and along rocks where tiny creatures lived. When he got older, John started to wonder if this process could be used to clean up the messes people were making. After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions. Why can certain plants trap harmful bacteria (细菌)? Which kinds of fish can eat cancer-causing chemicals? With the right combination of animals and plants, he figured, maybe he could clean up waste the way nature did. He decided to build what he would later call an eco-machine.The task John set for himself was to remove harmful substances from some sludge (污泥). First, he constructed a series of clear fiberglass tanks connected to each other. Then he went around to local ponds and streams and brought back some plants and animals. He placed them in the tanks and waited. Little by little, these different kinds of life got used to one another and formed their own ecosystem. After a few weeks, John added the sludge. He was amazed at the results. The plants and animals in the eco-machine took the sludge as food and began to eat it! Within weeks it had all been digested, and all that was left was pure water.Over the years, John has taken on many big jobs. He developed a greenhouse — like facility that treated sewage (污水) from 1,600 homes in South Burlington. He also designed an eco-machine to clean canal water in Fuzhou, a city in southeast China.“Ecological design” is the name John gives to what he does. “Life on Earth is kind of a box of spare parts for the inventor,” he says. “You put organisms in new relationships and observe what’s happening. Then you let these new systems develop their own ways to self-repair.”4. What can we learn about John from the first two paragraphs?A. He was fond of traveling.B. He enjoyed being alone.C. He had an inquiring mind.D. He longed to be a doctor.5. Why did John put the sludge into the tanks?A. To feed the animals.B. To build an ecosystem.C. To protect the plants.D. To test the eco-machine.6. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Fuzhou?A. To review John’s research plans.B. To show an ap plication of John’s idea.C. To compare John’s different jobs.D. To erase doubts about John’s invention.7. What is the basis for John’s work?A. Nature can repair itself.B. Organisms need water to survive.C. Life on Earth is diverse.D. Most tiny creatures live in groups.CThe goal of this book is to make the case for digital minimalism, including a detailed exploration of what it asks and why it works, and then to teach you how to adopt this philosophy if you decide it’s right for you.To do so, I divided the book into two parts. In part one, I describe the philosophical foundations of digital minimalism, starting with an examination of the forces that are making so many people’s digital lives increasingly intolerable, before moving on to a detailed discussion of the digital minimalism philosophy.Part one concludes by introducing my suggested method for adopting this philosophy: the digital declutter. This process requires you to step away from optional online activities for thirty days. At the end of the thirty days, you will then add back a small number of carefully chosen online activities that you believe will provide massive benefits to the things you value. In the final chapter of part one, I’ll guide you through carrying out your own digital decl utter. In doing so, I’ll draw on an experiment I ran in 2018 in which over 1,600 people agreed to perform a digital declutter. You’ll hear these participants’ stories and learn what strategies worked well for them, and what traps they encountered that you should avoid. The second part of this book takes a closer look at some ideas that will help you cultivate (培养) a sustainable digital minimalism lifestyle. In these chapters, I examine issues such as the importance of solitude (独处) and the necessity of cultivating high-quality leisure to replace the time most now spend on mindless device use. Each chapter concludes with a collection of practices, which are designed to help you act on the big ideas of the chapter. You can view these practices as a toolbox meant to aid your efforts to build a minimalist lifestyle that words for your particular circumstances.8. What is the book aimed at?A. Teaching critical thinking skills.B. Advocating a simple digital lifestyle.C. Solving philosophical problems.D. Promoting the use of a digital device.9. What does the underlined word “declutter” in paragraph 3 mean?A. Clear-up.B. Add-on.C. Check-in.D.Take-over.10. What is presented in the final chapter of part one?A. Theoretical models.B. Statistical methods.C. Practical examples.D. Historical analyses.11. What does the author suggest readers do with the practices offered in part two?A. Use them as needed.B. Recommend them to friends.C. Evaluate their effects.D. Identify the ideas behind them.DOn March 7, 1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the “wisdom of crowds” effect. The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren’t always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and some to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate. If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won’t cancel each other out. In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people’s estimates be indep endent. If for whatever reasons, people’s errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. But a new study led by Joaquin Navajas offered an interesting twist (转折) on this classic phenomenon. The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. Did they tend to go with those most confident about their estimates? Did they follow those least willing to change their minds? This happened some of the time, but it wasn’t the dominant response. Most frequently, the groups reported that they “shared arguments and reasoned together.” Somehow, these arguments and reasoning resulted in a global reduction in error. Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous.12. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?A. The methods of estimation.B. The underlying logic of the effect.C. The causes of people’s errors.D. The design of Galton’s experiment.13. Navajas’ study found that the average accuracy could increase even if ________.A. the crowds were relatively smallB. there were occasional underestimatesC. individuals did not communicateD. estimates were not fully independent14. What did the follow-up study focus on?A. The size of the groups.B. The dominant members.C. The discussion process.D. The individual estimates.15. What is the author’s attitude toward Navajas’ studies?A. Unclear.B. Dismissive.C. Doubtful.D. Approving.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

英文演讲欧洲历史

英文演讲欧洲历史Europe has a long and complex history that has shaped the continent into what it is today. From the ancient Greeks and Romans to the rise and fall of empires, Europe has seen it all. The history of Europe is characterized by wars, conquests, and the clash of cultures. One of the most significant events in European historyis the Renaissance, which began in Italy in the 14th century and spread across the continent. The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and intellectual growth, with advancements in art, literature, science, and philosophy. It marked the transition from the medieval period to the modern era.Another important period in European history is the Age of Exploration, which began in the 15th century. European explorers like Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, and Ferdinand Magellan set out on voyages that would forever change the course of history. The Age of Exploration led to the colonization of the Americas, Africa, and Asia, as well as the establishment of vast empires by European powers. The Industrial Revolution, which began in the late 18th century, was another pivotal moment in European history. It brought about significant technological advancements and transformed European society from agrarian to industrial. The Industrial Revolution also had far-reaching consequences for the global economy and contributed to the rise of capitalism. The 20th century saw two devastating world wars that had a profound impact on Europe and the world. World War I and World War II were some of the deadliest conflicts in history, resulting in millions of deaths and widespread destruction. The aftermath of these wars led to thedivision of Europe into East and West, with the Cold War pitting the Soviet Union against the Western powers. In more recent times, Europe has seen the rise of the European Union, a political and economic union of 27 European countries. The European Union has promoted peace, stability, and cooperation among its member states, while also facing challenges such as Brexit and the migrant crisis.Overall, the history of Europe is a rich tapestry of events and developments that have shaped the continent into a diverse and dynamic region. From ancient civilizations to modern nation-states, Europe's history is a reflection of the triumphs and struggles of its people.欧洲有着悠久而复杂的历史,塑造了今天的欧洲大陆。

大学英语四级模拟试卷145(题后含答案及解析)

大学英语四级模拟试卷145(题后含答案及解析)题型有:1. Writing 2. Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning) 3. Listening Comprehension 4. Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) 5. Cloze 8. TranslationPart I Writing (30 minutes)1.Is Environmental Pollution a Crime? 1.破坏生态环境是一种犯罪行为2.破坏生态给人类造成经济损失及生存危机3.保护环境人人有责正确答案:Is Environmental Pollution a Crime? When it comes to crimes, we invariably talk about stealing, robbing and killing, and some other offenses, which cause damages to people’s possessions and lives and therefore must be punished by law. Probably not many people associate crimes with environmental pollution. But in view of its increasingly serious consequences, pollution is undoubtedly an act that also deserves legal punishment. Anyone who doubts this point needs only to look at what the nature is suffering as a result of man’s shortsightedness and greed. Ever since the industrial revolution, man has been slowly poisoning his environment in the mad pursuit of material things. Now the sky is darkening with choking and stinging air hovering over cities; misused insecticides are killing plants and wildlife; Sewage-filled rivers are causing a rapid loss of drinking water and an valuable food supply -- fish. Besides these horrible facts, there is also the enormous financial cost involved in the so-called environmental projects. Take a small paper-making factory as an example. The factory may have provided employment for local people and contributed 100,000 yuan income tax to the society. But on the other hand, it also polluted a river by pouring sewage into it. To save the river, the government may have to spend a million on the sewage-treatment projects. So there is no overestimating the losses pollution is causing, both direcdy and indirectly, to human beings. And there is certainly no exaggeration in considering pollution as a crime. It’s time to seriously carry out environmental laws to protect the earth -- our home.Part II Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning) (15 minutes)Directions: In this part, you will have 15 minutes to go over the passage quickly and answer the questions attached to the passage. For 11 years, a 58-year-old anthropologist (人类学家) kept a journal of nearly 5,000 dreams. By analyzing colorpatterns in the dreams, Arizona-based researcher Robert Hoss could accurately predict certain things about the man’s emotional state. Hoss correctly identified two separate years when the man experienced crises in his life. The anthropologist confirmed that in 1997 he clashed with a colleague over a management issue, and in 2003 he had a falling-out with a friend that left deep emotional scars. Hoss is among a growing group of researchers who, thanks to advanced psychoiogical research and cutting-edge medical technology, are beginning to reveal the secrets .hidden in our dreams and the role dreaming plays in our lives. A look at some of their latest discoveries can give us new insights into the language of dreams and help us make the most of our time asleep. Why Do We Dream? Dreams are a way for the subconscious to communicate with the conscious mind. Dreaming of something you are worried about, researchers say, is the brain’s way of helping you get prepared for a disaster in case it occurs. Dreaming of a challenge, for example, giving a presentation at work or playing sports, can enhance your performance. And cognitive (认知的) neuroscientists have discovered that dreams and the rapid eye movement (REM) that happens while you are dreaming are linked to our ability to learn and remember. Dreaming is a “mood regulatory system,”says Dr. Cartwright, chairman of the psychology department at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She has found that dreams help people work through the day’s emotional ups and downs. It’s like having a built-in therapist. While we sleep, dreams compare new emotional experience to old memories. As she puts it, “you may wake up and think, ‘what was uncle Harry doing in my dream? I haven’t seen him for 50 years.’ But the old and new images are emotionally related.” It’s the job of the conscious mind to figure out the relationship. In fact, dream emotions car help real therapists treat patients undergoing traumatic (创伤性的) life events. In a new study of 30 recently divorced adults, Cartwright tracked their dreams over a 5-month period, measuring their feelings toward their ex-spouses. She discovered that those who were angriest at the spouse while dreaming had the best chance of successfully coping with divorce. If their dreams were calm, they hadn’t started to work through their emotions and deal with the divorce. For therapists, this finding will help determine whether divorced men or women need counseling or have already dreamed their troubles away. One Interpretation Doesn’t Fit All No device lets researchers read the content of dreams while we sleep, but scientists are finding new ways to interpret once we have awakened. Forget Sigmund Freud’s notion that dreams contain images with universal meanings for all his undeniable authority in the field of dream interpretation. A new generation of psychologists insists that dream symbols differ depending on the dreamer. In a recent study, Joseph Koninck, a psychology professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada, asked 13 volunteers to make two fists: one of details recalled from recent dreams, and another of recent events in their waking fives. When analysts were asked to match which volunteer experienced which dream, they failed. Koninck’s conclusion: Each person understands his or her dreams better than anyone else -- including traditional psychoanalysts. “There’s just no evidence of universal dream symbols,” says Koninck. “My advice is to throw away your dream dictionary if you really want to interpret your dreams.”Your Brain on Dreams A centuryafter the Freud era, scientists are only now decoding the biology of how we manufacture dreams. At the Sleep Research Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Nofzinger “looks into” the brains of sleeping subjects using PET scans normally employed to detect cancer and other diseases. By injecting subjects with a mildly radioactive substance, he has traced the source of the brain that controls emotions. During dreaming, the limbic system explodes like fireworks with neural (神经的) activity, filling our dreams with drama. “That’s why so many dreams are about emotional states,” says Nofzinger, “where we are running from danger or facing an anxious situation. The part of the brain that controls dreams also manages our instincts, drives, sexual behavior and fight-or-flight response.” That’s why dreams are often strange combinations of events and people. Decoding the Meanings Today, psychologists are applying modem technology to probe the content of dreams. Hoss uses a computer-based approach called content analysis to interpret the colors in dreams. More than 80 percent of people dream in color, he says, though only a quarter of them recall the shades the next morning. To collect data, he analyzed nearly 24,000 dreams, catalogued in two databases. His study suggested that specific colors represent particular emotions. For example, red means action, excitement and desire; blue equals calmness and harmony; black hints fear, anxiety and intimidation. The clues are in the colors. Hoss has been trying to determine the emotional states of a dreamer based on his/her dream colors. But, as with symbols and action, one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to interpretation. Using color is your brain’s way of painting dreams with your emotion, and different people have different ways of using color. What Dreams Can Do for You Psychologists have long known that people can solve their problems at work and home by “sleeping on it”. The challenge has always been to train yourself to dream up the solutions. Dr. Barret, editor of the journal Dreaming, advises individuals to consider questions just before falling asleep (Should I take this job? Should I marry this guy?), and then let the subconscious provide the answers. “I’ve known artists looking for inspiration who simply dream up a future show of their art and wake up with plenty of new painting ideas,” says Barrett. “More and more people are learning these techniques to control their dreams.”Some researchers believe you can guide your dreams while you are sleeping. In recent years, Stephen La Berge, PhD, has pioneered a way of directing the sleeping mind through “lucid dreaming”, in which a sleeping person realizes he/she is dreaming while it is happening. Lucid dreamers can experience fantasy adventures -- like flying to the moon, traveling through time or making love on a beach -- while fully aware that they are dreaming. According to La Berge, lucid dreamers can use the experience for a variety of purpose: problem solving, developing creative ideas and healing. Patricia Keelin, a 55-year-old photographer has used lucid dreaming for everything from talking to her long-dead father to feasting on sweets. “Chocolate always tastes better in lucid dreams since you don’t have to worry about calories,” she says, “Lucid dreaming is great and exciting, because it’s free and ‘available to everybody.”Well, not entirely free. Although everyone has the potential to dream lucidly, it rarely happens routinely without special training. Instructional workshops are needed to help individuals participate in their dreams. If you have repeatingnightmares that make it difficult to sleep, try to change the endings. Once you awaken from a bad dream, imagine a change in the action to create a more positive outcome. If you are trapped, try to fly. In you dream, you can do what you want. Indeed, your dreams are like private movies where you are the star, director and writer all at once. And as the latest research indicates, you are also the most insightful movie critic. The best interpreter of your dreams is you.2.By means of dreams, the human subconscious is sending important messages to the conscious mind.A.YB.NC.NG正确答案:A解析:参见“Why Do We Dream?”部分第一段第一句。

欧洲教育家的英语作文

欧洲教育家的英语作文

欧洲教育家的英语作文European education is a rich tapestry of traditions, innovations, and philosophies that have shaped the minds of countless individuals. From the classical roots of ancient Greece and Rome to the modern educational systems found in countries like Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, Europe has long been a hub of intellectual thought and academic excellence. One of the key figures in European education was Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, a Swiss pedagogue and educational reformer who lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Pestalozzi believed in the importance of a holistic education that focused on the development of the whole person, including their intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being. He emphasized the use of hands-on learning experiences and the importance of learning through observation and discovery, rather than rote memorization.Pestalozzi's ideas had a profound impact on educationin Europe and beyond, influencing thinkers such asFriedrich Fröbel, the founder of the kindergarten movement, and Maria Montessori, whose educational philosophy is still widely practiced today. Fröbel believed in the importanceof play-based learning and the nurturing of creativity in young children, while Montessori advocated for a child-centered approach to education that focused on each child's individual needs and abilities.Another influential figure in European education was John Amos Comenius, a Czech philosopher and educator who lived in the 17th century. Comenius is often referred to as the "father of modern education" for his pioneering work in the field of pedagogy. He believed that education should be universal, practical, and comprehensive, and he developed a system of education that emphasized the use of pictures and illustrations to aid in learning.Comenius's ideas laid the foundation for modern educational practices, such as the use of visual aids in teaching and the concept of education for all. Hisinfluence can still be seen in classrooms around the worldtoday, where teachers strive to make learning engaging and accessible to all students. In conclusion, European education has been shaped by a diverse array of thinkers and innovators who have left a lasting impact on the field of education. From Pestalozzi's emphasis on holistic learning to Comenius's advocacy for universal education, these figures have helped to shape the way we think about teaching and learning. Their ideas continue to influence educational practices today, reminding us of the importance of a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole person.。
