冠词分为不定冠词a/an和定冠词the,a/an用在单数可数名词前,the的用法较灵活。

l 不定冠词(1)不定冠词的用法。

①泛指一类人或物。

This is a pencil case.这是一个铅笔盒。

She’s a doctor.她是一个医生。

②指不具体的某个人或物。

I met an old man on my way home.我在回家的路上遇到了一个老人。

③用在序数词前,相当于another。

There’s a third boy near the shop.在那个商店的附近还有第三个男孩。

④用在表示数量、时间等名词前,表示“每一(个)”,相当于every。

They have music lessons twice a week.他们一周有两次音乐课。

⑤用在某些物质名词或抽象名词前,表示“一阵、一份、一类、一场等”。

如:There will be a strong wind in South China.在中国南部将有一场强风。

⑥用于可表示整体的两个名词前。

如:a knife and fork一副刀叉。

⑦固定搭配。

a lot of,a lot,a little,a few,a glass of,such a/an,have a word with,have a look,have a try,have a swim,a quarter,half an hour,three times a day,have a talk,give a talk等。

注意:不定冠词的选择在于名词的首字母发音是元音还是辅音,a 用于辅音音素开头的词前,an用于元音音素开头的词前。

(2)不定冠词的位置。

①不定冠词一般放在所修饰的单数可数名词前。

如:a bike,an egg。

②当名词被such,what,many修饰时,不定冠词放在这些词之后。

Unit1 定冠词(the)冠词用在名词前,帮助说明名词及其意义。

冠词分为不定冠词a/an和定冠词the,a/an用在单数可数名词前,the的用法较灵活。

l 不定冠词(1)不定冠词的用法。

①泛指一类人或物。

This is a pencil case.这是一个铅笔盒。

She’s a doctor.她是一个医生。

②指不具体的某个人或物。

I met an old man on my way home.我在回家的路上遇到了一个老人。

③用在序数词前,相当于another。

There’s a third boy near the shop.在那个商店的附近还有第三个男孩。

④用在表示数量、时间等名词前,表示“每一(个)”,相当于every。

They have music lessons twice a week.他们一周有两次音乐课。

⑤用在某些物质名词或抽象名词前,表示“一阵、一份、一类、一场等”。

如:There will be a strong wind in South China.在中国南部将有一场强风。

⑥用于可表示整体的两个名词前。

如:a knife and fork一副刀叉。

⑦固定搭配。

a lot of,a lot,a little,a few,a glass of,such a/an,have a word with,have a look,have a try,have a swim,a quarter,half an hour,three times a day,have a talk,give a talk等。

注意:不定冠词的选择在于名词的首字母发音是元音还是辅音,a用于辅音音素开头的词前,an用于元音音素开头的词前。

(2)不定冠词的位置。

①不定冠词一般放在所修饰的单数可数名词前。

如:a bike,an egg。

②当名词被such,what,many修饰时,不定冠词放在这些词之后。

It took me half an hour to finish my homework.我花了半个小时完成家庭作业。

He left in such a hurry that he forgot to close the door.他离开得如此匆忙以至于忘记了关门。

What a dangerous job it is!多危险的一份工作呀!Many a man has gone to the big cities for work.许多人都去大城市工作了。

③当名词前的形容词前有so,how,too等词时,不定冠词应放在形容词之后。

She was so nice a girl that she took the blind man to the station.她是一个如此善良的一个女孩以至于她送那个盲人去了车站。

④当名词前面有形容词和quite,rather,very时,不定冠词放在quite,rather 之后,very之前。

It is quite a good book.这是一本相当好的书。

That is rather a useful too1.那是一个相当有用的工具。

This is a very interesting story.这是一个非常有趣的故事。

2定冠词的用法1)表示上文中提到过的人或物。

I have two children,a boy and a girl.The boy’s name is Mark.The girl’sname is Penny.我有两个孩子,一个男孩和一个女孩。

男孩的名字是马克,女孩的名字是潘妮。

(2)特指某(些)人或物。

The girl in a red skirt comes from America.那个穿红裙子的女孩来自美国。

(3)指说话人和听话人双方都知道的人或物。

My shoes are under the bed.我的鞋在那张床下。

Give me the book,please.请把那本书给我。

(4)用在形容词最高级或部分比较级前。

Shanghai is the biggest city in China.上海是中国的最大的城市Tom is the taller of the two boys.汤姆是两个男孩中比较高的(5)用在序数词前。

但是如果不表示顺序,而表示“又一”“另一”时,用不定冠词Monday is the second day of a week.星期一是一周的第二天.The first lesson is very easy.第一课非常简单。

(6)用在世界上独一无二的事物前,如太阳、月亮、世界、地球、天空、宇宙等。

The moon moves round the earth.月亮绕着地球转.(7)用在某些形容词前,表示一类人或物。

如:the rich(富人),the poor(穷人),the deaf(聋人),the blind(盲人),the dead(死者)。

(8)用在复数姓氏前,表示“某某一家人,,或The Greens are having dinner at home.格林一家(9)用在乐器前。

如: play the piano/guitar/violin/drums。

(10)用于表示世纪年代或人的大约年岁前。

In the 1970s,a highway was built to link up the city with my hometown.在二十世纪七十年代,为了连接这座城市和我的家乡建了一条高速公路。

I think he is in the thirties.我认为他三十多岁。

(11)用在普通名词组成的专有名词和习惯用语中。

如:the United Nations,the Great Wall,the Summer Palace。

the Palace Museum,in the end,in the day,in the middle of,all the time,in the east,by the way,on the way to,the more…the more…。

(12)在江河、湖泊、海洋、海峡、海湾、山脉等名词前。

注意:通常情况下,定冠词的位置是在所修饰词的前面,但如果定冠词和all,half,both或表示倍数、分数的词连用时,则需要放在这些词的后面。

如:Look,all the books are here.看!所有的书都在这儿。

Both the boys are from No.5 Middle Schoo1.这两个男孩都来自五中。

This room is three times the size of that one.这个房间是那个房间的三倍大。

零冠词(1)名词前有各种代词(指示代词、物主代词、疑问代词、不定代词等)时,不用冠词。

That girl is my friend.那个女孩是我的朋友。

Lucy is her sister.露西是她的姐姐。

Which man is Mr Green?哪个人是格林先生?(2)复数名词、物质名词、抽象名词表示一类人或物等概念时,不用冠词。

Those young men are teachers,not students.那些年轻人是老师,不是学生。

Snow is white.雪是白色的。

Does she like music?她喜欢音乐吗?(3)在三餐、球类运动和棋类游戏前不用冠play basketball/soccer/chess,have lunch/supper/dinner。

(4)在人名、地名、节假日、星期、月份、学科和节目前不用冠词。

如:Tina,China,Beijing University, New Year’s Day,Tuesday,January,Travel around the World。

June 1st is Children’s Day.六月一日是儿童节。

(5)在某些固定搭配中,不用冠词。

如:at noon,at work,at home,by bus,by air,on foot.from morning till night,at night,go to school,go to bed,at last。

(6)季节前不加冠词,但如果是特指某年的某个季节,就需要加the。

l like winter because I like skating.我喜欢冬天,因为我喜欢滑冰。

The winter in 2009 will be warm in China. 中国2009年的冬天会很温暖。

(7)在称呼,头衔、职务前,不用冠词。

注意:在以下词组中,在用冠词和不用冠词两种情况下,短语的意思有较大区别。

in hospital(住院),in the hospital(在医院)。

in prison(坐牢),in the prison(在监狱里);at table(吃饭,用餐),at the table(在桌旁);in front of(在某个范围之外的前面),in thefront of(在某个范围之内的前面);go to college(上大学),go to the college(去那所大学);take place(发生),take the place(代替); a number of…(许多),the number of…(……的数目)。
