Traffic lights are usually placed at busy street corners to help control traffic. Sometimes, they are on streets near schools and shops, too. Most young children are taught what each of the colored lights means, so everybody can stay safe. The first traffic signals were used for trains. The signals were put alongside railway tracks(轨道). The color red was used to mean “stop” because it warned people of danger. A red light was also the easiest color to see from a distance. Train drivers could see the red “stop” light ahead and had enough time to slow down and stop their trains. A green light was used to mean “take care” and a white light meant “go”.However, there were many dangerous accidents on the train tracks. Some train drivers thought a star shining in the night sky was a white light that meant “go”. So the signals were swapped. The “go” light was changed to green and the “take care” light was changed to white.During these times, people travelled by train or in carts pulled by horses. Years later, when cars were built, people began to drive them because they could travel much faster than horses. However, the road rules for drivers were not very clear and many people were hurt crossing the roads. Yellow warning signs had to be placed beside the roads to remind drivers to take care and allow people to cross safely.Today, towns and cities all over the world have traffic lights. Red and green lights match the signals used on the railways. Yellow lights are easy to see, so they are used to warn drivers that they should slow down and prepare to stop.21. Why was the color red used to mean “stop”?A. It reminded people of traffic rules.B. It helped trains run smoothly.C. It gave people a warning of danger.D. It was the first color people thought of.22. What does the underlined word “swapped” in Paragraph 3 mean?A. Designed.B. Exchanged.C. Suggested.D. Compared.23. In which order did the “take care” light develop?a. A white lightb. A green lightc. Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. These usually try to show the things that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family. The most common things, from paper to clay are turned into objects of beauty.Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. (69) Paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, fish, animals, and things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and wal ls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year.Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very real. The pieces are usually cute children or lively characters from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are carefully shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. They are then polished and painted. (70)完成这一切要花几周时间。

These lion statues lie at the sides of the entrances to restaurants and shopping malls as well (the pair in the picture stand guard within the Forbidden City). They are also found in Chinese communities around the world. In Chinese culture, the lion is a symbol of strength and good luck and defends against something bad.Whether made of stone or metal, these big and heavy statues are always used in pairs, one on each side of a door or gate. Looking out on the left (your right as you move towards the entrance) is the male lion, with his right front paw on a ball that stands for the world. On the other side, the female lion rests her left paw on a baby lion, standing for the raising of life. The two lions show us the Chinese idea of yin and yang: opposites that create one whole. In the mouths of some lion statues is a big pearl, a symbol of wisdom and power. These statues are designed so that the pearl can move around but not be removed.Historians believe lions were brought to China during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.), a time of increasing trade along the Silk Road. The lions were from Central Asia and were smaller than the more familiar African lion. Interestingly, in China, unlike in the West, these statues are never called “fu dogs”. Here are some interpretations: some think the lions are like Chinese dogs, such as the shih tzu (狮子狗), chowchow and so on. Others say that “fu” sounds like the Chinese word for “success” and the word for “Buddha”.11.People place the lion statues at the sides of the entrance because ________.A.they are from the Forbidden City B.they can fight against bad peopleC.they are important buildings in China D.they stand for strength and good luck 12.Paragraph 2 is mainly about ________.A.what the lion statues are made of B.what the lion statues stand forC.how much people like the lion statues D.where the lion statues come from13.The underlined words “interpretations” in Paragraph 3 mean ________.A.agreements.B.collectionsC.explanations D.translations14.The passage was probably written by ________.A.a person who likes animals very muchB.a businessman who runs shopping mallC.a foreigner who designs stone or metal lionsD.a researcher who is interested in historical treasure(2022·辽宁·铁岭县莲花第一初级中学一模)Gourds (葫芦) have a history of 7,000 years in China. Having a history of about 200 years, it is developed from absorbing (吸收) many other dramatic forms, mostly from the local drama ‘Huiban’, which was popular in South China during the 18thcentury. It is a scenic (戏剧的) art integrating music, performance, literature, aria, and face painting.Theatrical art forms in many other countries do not present singing, dancing or spoken parts in one single drama. An opera singer, for example, neither dances nor speaks on stage; there are no singing or dancing parts in a modern play; in a dance drama, the dancer has no speaking role and does not sing either. Traditional Chinese drama, including Beijing Opera, is a kind of entertainment which includes spoken parts, singing, dancing and acrobatics. In addition to its presence in China, Beijing Opera has spread to many other places. Mei Lanfang, one of the most famous performers (表演者) of all time, was the first to introduce Beijing Opera to foreigners and made highly successful tours to foreign countries.“You will be puzzled (困惑的) all the way through and a little bored from time to time; but you will be charmed and interested. You will be strongly attracted to Beijing Opera even if you know nothing of the dramatic background.” This is how one American traveller described his first experience in watching Beijing Opera.Beijing Opera is China’s national opera and it is full of Chinese cultural traditions. The hotel isn't usually completed until January 7th. The ICEHOTEL is built under the open sky, using the natural materials of the winter season. So the finishing date depends on nature and there are sometimes changes to the plan. In spring , as the weather gets warmer, the hotel melts (融化 ).

Ⅱ . 任务型阅读。 It is a cold and dry winter morning. When you wake up , you suddenly feel that your throat hurts. You begin to sneeze and later you may cough. You must have a cold! Wait a second. Could it just be a common cold or the flu that's been going around? Usually you feel better after a week. A cold gives you a runny nose and cough. But it's usually easy to deal with. Some take medicine such as aspirin while others try home treatments like herbal( 草本的 ) tea or chicken soup.
The flu on the other hand can be much more dangerous. It usually gives you fever. Sometimes it can be deadly. The worst flu , the so called Spanish Flu of 1918 to 1919, killed about 50 million people, according to the Atlantic . Don't worry. Getting a flu vaccine(疫苗 ) can protect you from the virus(病毒 ). Flu vaccines work by giving the body a small amount of flu viruses. This causes our body to develop antibodies( 抗体 ). So next time you get the flu, the antibodies should help protect you. Unfortunately, the flu virus changes every few years. Therefore , there are so many types of flu, such as H1N1 and H7N9. The antibodies for one type of flu can't protect us against all types of flu. That's why we need to get the vaccine every year.
