Chapter 1: English weeklyToday, I went to the country with my mother. I walked alone on the farm path. Walked, a slowly moving small animal into my eye.Take a closer look, but it was a small snail. I had a whim. I wanted to take a walk with the little snail. So I walked slowly, for fear that the little snail could not keep up with it. When I took a few steps and looked back, the little snail was so far away.I pushed it behind it, but it still crawled like that. I urge it, I fool it, I blame it, the snail looked at me with regret, as if to say: "I have tried my best!"The snail, though it may not climb fast, still climbs. To get where you want to be, so that you can accomplish what you have set for yourself. What is our goal? How do we accomplish these goals? Snail, by its own efforts, never give up the spirit, to achieve their goals. We should learn the spirit of snail and accomplish our goal!Life often gives inspiration, but life does not take the initiative to "Enlightenment" to the door. Life goes according to its own appearance and regularity, and everyone has the right to learn it from it. It gives everyone a chance, and the question is whether we can find the Apocalypse ourselves". Diligent people think, in a sense, is hard to find inspiration to people - with problems in suspense to, with all the doubts go. Think about life itself, and think about the phenomena in your life, and you willreceive the gift of life.Article two: English week notesIn the US, also have some small or taking place: the students because many operations and changxuduantan; complaining because of poor grades; two students and an honour to win bukekaijiao; dinner queue caused outrage......Some of these phenomena we have heard of, some have seen, and more have happened to ourselves. In the face of these, I can attribute it to one reason: "inner peace."". Just imagine, if we are to quiet the mind to face every day, with a smile the face of everything, heart no resentment and rapid, but calm and happy, this is "does not" harmonious. The salesman received counterfeit money, she learned a lesson; to the coffee shop owners who discuss the payment issues, admire each other's intellect became friends; hatred of the two sides similar association, but found that is a misunderstanding......We patiently and carefully written work, all right; our efforts, progress, will not regret; we voted, although there is only one good, in our hearts there are two; lined up, one will be to your son.So, people met with a comfortable smile, friends, everywhere. An almost ideal harmonious society has been built up quietly!Article three: English week notesSummer vacation, summer, red. I like the red summer, red symbolizes the fiery, sunny, bright mood as if only red can be set off. This season, red, pink, orange, different colors, blending in on a piece of fabric, but also adds a fashion beauty for it. I like red because I always have a fire burning in my heart. I love life, love everyone around me, and always like to help people in need.Outgoing and easy to please me, I am always very pleased with my little progress; I am thankful for my little wish; sad and sad is only a few minutes. Whether in school or at home, everything gives me a warm feeling. For me, there is no life in the Hom, so I am happy every day, the mood is like a red flame, always jumping in joy.Article four: English week notesDuring the summer vacation, I saw "Crazy Rock". There is a plot deep in my mind, still fresh in my memory. There is a man carrying a suitcase, just off the plane waiting for the car on the side of the road. Suddenly a man rushed over his eyes and asked, "guess who I am?" Have three chances, think it over and then answer it." The blindfolded man said, "Sir, I think you've made a mistake."." "Two more chances."." The blindfolded man thought, "this voice is so strange, he must have made a mistake.". The blindfolded man put down his trunk. Meanwhile, one of them came to pick up the trunk and stopped a taxi. The blindfolded man said, "Sir, you are really mistaken. Please hold your hand."." "Okay, let me go. You can't peek."." The moment he opened his hand, the man blinded by his eyes disappeared. He was about to pick up his suitcase when he found his suitcase missing. In daily life, sometimes a very casual action, the nature is actually quite different, one is to steal things, one is to protect the young mind. This makes me understand: our world is not perfect, justice is sometimes not entirely rational, evil sometimes may not be excusable. A lie can sometimes deceive itself, and a lie can be beautiful at times.。

Week9_solution
WEEK 9 (22 September - 26 September) - Introduction to Corporate Financial ReportingDiscuss how the conceptual framework is used in financial reporting?Refer to Section 2.2 of Picker et al. for discussion of this topic. In summary the Framework has a variety of uses such us:•Guides IASB and IFRIC members in deliberating and establishing International Financial Reporting Standards•Helps ensure that standards are internally consistent•Preparers and auditors use the Framework as a point of reference to resolve an accounting question in the absence of a standard or interpretation. It also establishesthe boundaries for the exercise of judgement in preparing financial statements, hencereducing the need to have voluminous standards and implementation guidancePicker, Chapter 2, Problem (Pr) 2.1A year ago you bought shares of stock in an investment company. The investment company, in turn, buys, holds, and sells shares of business enterprises. You want to use the financial statements of the investment company to assess its performance over the past year.a.What financial information about the investment company’s holdings would bemost relevant to you?b.How would reliability be affected if the investment company only buys shares oflisted companies versus if it invests in shares of private high-tech companies?c.The investment company earns profits from appreciation of its investmentsecurities and from dividends received. How would the concepts of recognition in the IASB Framework apply here?a. The performance of an investment company results from income earned on itsinvestments (dividends and interest) and changes in the fair values of its investments while they are held. I would like to know:•Fair values of the securities that the investment company holds•How those fair values changed during the year. It would not matter much to me whether the investment company actually sold the investments (in which case they would have to replace them with other investments) or held on to the investments.Either way, the fair value changes represent gains and losses to the investment company and, therefore, to me as an investor in the investment company.•How the fair value changes of investments managed by this investment company compared to changes in similar investments in the market as a whole.•Turnover of the portfolio, and related transaction costs such as commissions.•Interest and dividends earned.•Information about risks in the portfolio.•Income taxes are usually based on only those fair value changes that have been “confirmed” by a sale transaction. If that is the case with this investment company, I might want to know how the fair value changes were split between “realised”(relating to investments that have been sold) and “unrealised” (relating to investments that are still held). In many countries, investment companies that distribute their earnings rapidly to the investors do not themselves pay taxes – only the investors pay the taxes on realised gains and dividend and interest income.b. Measurements in financial statements must be reliable – that is, they must accuratelyrepresent what they purport to represent. In the case of investment securities, a fair value measurement should represent the price that a willing buyer would pay and a willing seller would reasonably charge in an unforced arm’s length transaction. Clearly, it is easier to get fair values for listed securities, because there is a quoted market price. However, if the investment company only invests in shares of private high-tech companies, it is more difficult, and may not be possible, to get a reliable measure of fair value. Recent transactions may provide an indication of fair value in these cases, or valuation models may be appropriate.c. Under the IASB Framework, an item that meets the definition of an asset, liability, income, or expense should be recognised if:(a) it is probable that any future economic benefit associated with the item will flow to orfrom the entity; and(b) the item has a cost or value that can be measured with reliability. With respect to income, the IASB Framework states that income is recognised in the income statement when an increase in future economic benefits related to an increase in an asset or a decrease of a liability has arisen that can be measured reliably. Appreciation of the fair value of investment securities does represent an increase in an asset. For an investment company, it is an important component of performance. As to dividends, when the investment company’s right to receive payment is established, it can recognise dividends as revenue. Because fair value changes and dividends are different in nature, they would be reported separately.。

Lesson 7 Memory in interpreting (for Nov. 1)3.3 Steve Forbes on Forbes(史蒂夫·福布斯谈《福布斯》)My grandfather came to the U.S. in the early 1900s. He came from Scotland with very little money. He was one of 10 children, but he had had a great school education. Like many who came to the U. S., he was full of dreams and ambitions. He started the Forbes magazine to write about the doers who were doing things, people who make things happen in business我祖父二十世纪初来美国。
My grandfather used to say, the purpose of business is not to pile up millions or billions, but to produce happiness. In our articles today when we discuss companies or business, we use a lot of numbers. But the focus is always people. People make the difference more than the balance sheet. My grandfather believed that, and we believe that today.

we need to have P > V , otherwise the formula would give a
negative value for the quantity Q.
The quantity P − V is called the contribution margin per unit (CM). The total contribution margin (TCM) is
P Q = T F C + V Q,
which is when
TFC
Q=
.
P −V
Remember, • P is the unit price for the product • T F C is the total fixed costs • V or V C is the (variable) cost per unit • Q is the number of units sold of the product
Example
We have a product that sells for a price of $200. The fixed costs for the period are $3400, and the variable cost per unit is $30.
If we sell a quantity Q over the period, the total revenue is 200Q. Total variable cost is $30Q.
Week 9
COST VOLUME PROFIT ANALYSIS (CVP)
The profit made by producing over a product over a period is total revenue − total costs.
Writing in English:LifeWriting in English:LoveWriting in English:How to grow?2.
