黑龙江省友谊县红兴隆管理局第一高级中学高一下册期中考试英语试题(有答案)
A Many years ago, when I was fresh out of school and working in Denver, I was driving to my parents’ home in Missouri for Christmas. I stopped at a gas station (加油站) about 50 miles from Oklahoma City, where I was planning to stop and visit a friend. While I was standing in line at the cash register (收款台),I said hello to an older couple who were also paying for gas.I took_off, but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car.I stopped and wondered what I should do. A car pulled up behind me. It was the couple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend’s. We chatted on the way into the city, and when I got out of the car,the husband gave me his business card.I wrote him and his wife a thank you note for helping me. Soon afterward,I received a Christmas present from them. Their note that came with it said that helping me had made their holidays meaningful.Years later,I drove to a meeting in a nearby town in the morning. In late afternoon I returned to my car and found that I’d left the lights on all day,and the battery(电池)was dead. Then I noticed that the Friendly Ford dealership-a shop selling cars was right next door. I walked over and found two salesmen in the showroom.“Just how friendly is Friendly Ford?”I asked and explained my trouble. They quickly drove a pickup truck to my car and started it. They would accept no payment,so when I got home,I wrote them a note to say thanks. I received a letter back from one of the salesmen. No one had ever taken the time to write him and say thank you,and it meant a lot,he said.1“Thank you”-two powerful words. They’ve easy to say and mean so much.1.The author planned to stop at Oklahoma City________.A.to visit a friendB.to see his parentsC.to pay at the cash registerD.to have more gas for his car2.What happened when the author found smoke coming out of his car?A.He had it pulled back to the gas station.B.The couple sent him a business card.C.He called his friend for help.D.The couple offered to help him.3.The battery of the author’s car was dead because________.A.something went wrong with the lightsB.he forgot to turn off the lightsC.the meeting lasted a whole dayD.he drove too long a distanceBIt was mid-night while the horrible phone call was ringing in the darkness. I sat up, so that I could hear the phone call better. To my surprise, I heard my mom burst into tears. “Get the car Dean! Andrea has been in a car accident. ”We ran every stop sign on the way to the hospital and our tires screeched around every corner. We got to the hospital, but were not allowed to see Andrea. The next morning, after wearing masks, we were allowed to go to the ICU to see Andrea. Well, the least I could say was that everything was injured in her body and she lost all of her memories. It was a serious accident.Over the next two months, I lived more at the hospital than I did at my house. I watched as Andrea worked so hard to gain back everyday motor skills. She never once complained or pitied herself, her determined spirit was shining through. After two weeks in the ICU and two months of the regular hospital treatment, Andrea was able to come home. She missed several months of school, so it was hard for her to catch up. Andrea had tasks to accomplish, and no matter how hard it was, she stuck with them until the job was done. Though busy with dealing with pain, she always found time to love and play with me.I’ll never forget the effect that this incident made on my life. I admire her strong-willed personality and her determined spirit. Today she is perfectly normal, despite the scars and the pins holding her leg in place. I couldn’t ask for a better sister, hero, or best friend.4. The organizer told the editor that the oldest Lomographer who came here is in his forties while the youngest one is about nine years old, but most of the people who are into Lomo are about 20 years old. In China the concept of Lomography is not only about Lomographyer taking photos with Lomo camera, but also a kind of spirit. “I think, generally, the Lomo spirit is everyone trying to love one‟s own life and discover the beauty of everyday life,” the organizer said, “what I think more important is the idea of freedom and creativity. They all have black eyes and black hair. But they are not Chinese citizens. They are not people of the People‟s Republic of China. For example, we all know the famous scientist C. N. Yang (杨振宁). I asked him about it and hesaid they’d been out of order and that he couldn’tafford a new pair. His family needed money. The use of iPad has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teacher. All communication with parents is now done by email.Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The wholeclass can look at one child’s work by attaching(连接)the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant(相关的)page and send it to the student in class. Soon a fire was put to the town's greatest pot as the soldiers dropped in three smooth stones."Now this will be a fine soup", said the second soldier; "but a little salt and some parsley(欧芹)would make itwonderful!” A villager shouted excitedly, “What luck! I have some!”And off she ran, returning with a basket of parsley. Then carrots, beef and cream had found their way into the great pot. They ate and danced and sang well into the night, refreshed by the feast and their new-found friends. In the morning the three soldiers awoke to find the entire village standing before them.At their feet lay a box of the village's best breads and cheese."You have given us the greatest gifts:the secret of how to make soup from stones", said an elder, "and we shall never forget." The third soldier turned to the crowd, and said:"There is no secret, but this is certain:working together, with each of us contributing a bit, we can be successful.” Then the soldiers went off.5. When a dog has been properly trained, he will always lead his blind master in the right direction and keep him out of danger. For example, seeing-eye dogs learn never to cross a busy road when cars are coming, even if their master ordered them to do so.Horses are also able to learn many things. Horses that are used for guard or police duty must learn never to be frightened of noises, traffic, and other disturbances. Racing horses are able to run much faster than other horses, but they are also quite high nervous. Therefore, it is necessary for those people who train them to be very patient and understanding. The moving pictures and television can use trained animals too. Some animals, such as monkeys and foxes, are easy to film. All you have to do is make a trail in front of the camera by dragging something that smells good to the animals over the ground. Big animals, such as lions and tigers, can be photographed as they bound happily back to their families and dinner. If a movie actor is nearby, the well-trained animal will pay no attention to him. However, the audience may imagine that the actor escaped a terrible death by the skin of his teeth.9. Dogs who help blind people must learn .A. to obey all ordersB. to obey only safe ordersC. never to cross roadsD. to cross road when ordered to do so10. Race horses are hard to train because they are .A. faster than other horsesB. smaller than other horsesC. clever than other horseD. more nervous than other horses11. What does “make a trail” mean here in the last paragraph?A. place something to attract the animalB. give the animal a certain taskC. order the animal to do thingsD. follow the animal to huntDTwo days ago I was woken up at 1 am. APeter Owen was born in Wales in 1771. At the age of ten he went to work. H is employer had a large private library so Owen was able to educate himself. He read a lot in his spare time and at nineteen he was given the job of superintendent(监工) at a Manchester cotton mill. He was so successful there that he persuaded his employer to buy the New Lanark mill in Scotland. When he arrived at New Lanark it was a dirty little town with a population of 2,000 people. Nobody paid any attention to the workers' houses or their children's education. The conditions in the factories were very bad. There was a lot of crime (犯罪)and the men spent most of their wages (工资)on alcoholic drinks.Owen improved the houses. He encouraged people to be clean and save money. He opened a shop and sold the workers cheap, well-made goods to help them. He limited the sale of alcoholic drinks. Above all, he fixed his mind on the children's education. In 1816 he opened the first free primary school in Britain.People came from all over the country to visit Owen's factory. They saw that the workers were healthier and more efficient than in other towns. Their children were better fed and better educated. Owen tried the same experiment in the United States. He bought some land there in 1825, but the community was too far away. He could not keep it under control and lost most of his money.Owen never stopped fighting for his idea. Above all he believed that people are not born good or bad. He was a practical man and his ideas were practical. "If you give people good working conditions," he thought, "they will work well and, the most important thing of all, if you give them the chance to learn, they will be better people."1. For Owen, his greatest achievement in New Lanark was _______.A. improving worker's housesB. helping people to save moneyC. preventing men from getting drunkD. providing the children with a good education2. We may infer form the passage that no children in Britain could enjoy free education until____.A. 1771B. 1816C. 1825D. 1860BI recently read a book named Silent Spring written by Rachel Carson. In this book, she warned that some chemicals used in pesticides (杀虫剂) were polluting the air, the water, the eart h, and all creatures on earth. After reading the book, I felt deeply concerned. So you may ask, “Are pesticides really dangerous to use?” My answer is yes. And here are my reasons. Do harm to life in waterPesticides do not stay in one place. Their particles (颗粒) fly through the air when they are used, sinking into the soil in the end. The chemicals are then carried away by runoff water, often into rivers and oceans, where they can kill water plants. In the US, for example, pesticides flow into the Mississippi River every year. They then travel to the Gulf Coast, where the rest chemicals kill off yards of wetlands. According to experts, pl ants in rivers and oceans provide 80 percent of the oxygen content. When pesticides harm these plants, life in rivers and oceans will be harmed as a result._____________________Pesticides not only go into water sources, causing problems there, but they also cause problems on land. When species on land often contact these chemicals, the result can be those animals’ lowered weight, lowered power to fight diseases, loss of att ention, and even death.Do harm to humansHumans are not immune (免疫的) to the effects that wildlife experiences. Pesticides may become part of the food eaten by humans. They remain and increase gradually in our bodies. Some chemicals in pesticides can cause cancer. They may also harm skin and lungs. Recent studies have shown that pesticides can affect human brainwave activity and cause loss of memory and inability to concentrate. Now we can conclude that pesticides are really dangerous to use. They should be replaced for the sake of nature and our health.5. When reading the book Silent Spring, the writer was extremely _______.A. interestedB. boredC. inspiredD. worr ied6. . To prove that pesticides are dangerous to use.CWhen I began planning to move to Auckland to study, my mother was a little worried about the uncertainty of living in a place that was so different from India, where we lived. She worried particularly about the lack of jobs and cultural differences and the chance that I would face racism(种族主义).Despite these concerns, I came to New Zealand in July 2009.I found the place and the people very nice and supportive. Soon after I arrived, I realized the importance of getting a job to supply my living expenses.Determined to do this on my own, I spent a whole day going from door to door for a job. However, I received little or no response. One afternoon, I walked into a building to ask if there were any job opportunities. The people there were very surprised and advised me not to continue my job search in that manner. As I was about to leave, a clerk in the building, who had been listening to what others had said, approached me and asked me to wait outside. Fifteen minutes later, he returned, and asked me what my plans were and encouraged me to stay confident. Then he offered to take me to his friend’s company, Ro yal Oak, to search for a job. The following day, I received a call from a store in Royal Oak offering me a job.It seems that the world always gives back to you when you need it. And this time, it wasa complete stranger who turned out to be a real blessing.9. What wasn’t the author’s mother worried about?A. There might be cultural differences.B. People might look down on the author.C. The author couldn’t speak the local language.D. It might be difficult for the author to find a job.10. Then the te lephone rings, you say hello, and the drama starts. The person on the other end has a depressing(令人沮丧的)tone in his voice as he starts to tell you how terrible his morning is and that there is nothing to look forward to. You are still in a wonderful mood? Impossible!Communicating with negative (消极)people can wash out your happiness. It may not change what you think, but communicating long enough with them will make you feel depressed for a moment or a long time.Life brings ups and downs, but some people, are stuck in the wrong idea that life has no happiness to offer. They only feel glad when they make others feel bad. No wonder they can hardly win others' pity or respect. When you communicate with positive people, your spirit stays happy and therefore more positive things are attracted. When the dagger(匕首)of a negative person is put in you,you feel the heavy feeling that, all in all, brings you down.Sometimes we have no choice but t o communicate with negative people. This could be a coworker,or relative. In this case, say what needs to be said as little as possible. Sometimes it feels good to let outyour anger back to the negative person, but all this does is to l ower you to that same negative level and they won't feel ashamed of themselves about that.Negativity often affects happiness without even being realized. The negative words of another at the start of the day can cling to (附着)you throughout the rest of your day, which makes you feel bad and steals your happiness. Life is too short to feel negative. Stay positive and avoid negativity as much as possible.12.The purpose of the first paragraph is to__________.A.make a comparison B.offer an evidenceC.introduce a topic D.describe a daily scene13.How can negative people have effect on us?A.By influencing our emotion. Can’t you see things from my point of view?”I shook my head stubbornly—and felt the ache in my tooth. I’d thought I could hold out till my dentist came back from holiday, but the pain was really unbearable. I started calling the dentists in the phone book, but no one could see me immediately. Finally, at about lunchtime, I got lucky.“If you come by right now,” the receptionist said, “the dentist will fit you in.”[I took my purse and keys and rushed to my car. But suddenly I began to doubt about the dentist. What kind of dentist would be so eager to treat someone at such short notice? Why wasn’t he as busy as the others? In the dentist’s office, I sat down and looked around. I saw nothing but the bare walls and I became even more worried. The assistant noticed my nervousness and placed her warm hand over my ice-cold one. When I told her my fears, she laughe d and said, “Don’t worry. The dentist is very good.”“How long do I have to wait for him?” I asked impatiently.“Come on, he is coming. Just lie down and relax. Living just a few blocks from the beach, Natalie can see the ocean and hear the waves from her house. “It’s the ocean that makes Rockaway so special.” she says.On October 29, 2012, that ocean turned violent. That night, Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast, and Rockaway was hit especially hard. Fortunately, Natalie’s family escaped to Brooklyn shortly before the city’s bridges closed. When they returned to Rockaway the next day, they found their neighborhood in ruins. Many of Natalie’s friends had lost their homes and were living far away. All around her, people were suffering, especially the elderly. Natalie’s school was so damaged that she had to temporarily attend a school in Brooklyn. In the following few days, the men and women helping Rockaway recover inspired Natalie. Volunteers came withcarloads of donated(捐献的)clothing and toys. Neighbors devoted their spare time to helping others rebuild. Teenagers climbed dozens of flights of stairs to deliver water and food to elderly people trapped in powerless high-rise buildings.“My mom tells me that I can’t control what happens to me,” Natalie says,“but I can always choose how I deal with it.”Natalie’s choice was to help. She created a website page, matching survivors in need with donors who wanted to help. Natalie posted information about a boy named Patrick, who lost his baseball and collection when his house burned down. Within days, Patrick’s collection was replaced. In the coming months, her website page helped lots of kids: Christopher, who received a new basketball; Charlie, who got a new keyboard. Natalie also worked with other organizations to bring much-needed supplies to Rockaway. Her efforts made her a famous person. Last April, she was invited to the White House and honored as a Hurricane Sandy Champion of Change.Today, the scars(创痕) of destruction are still seen in Rockaway, but hope is in the air. The streets are clear, and many homes have been rebuilt. “I can’t imagine living anywhere but Rockaway,” Natalie declares. “My neighborhood will be back, even stronger than before.”【1】When Natalie returned to Rockaway after the hurricane, she found _______.A.some friends had lost their livesB.her neighborhood was destroyedC.her school had moved to BrooklynD.the elderly were free from suffering【2】According to Paragraph 4, who inspired Natalie most?A.The people helping Rockaway rebuild.B.The people trapped in high-rise buildings.C.The volunteers donating money to survivors.D.Local teenagers bringing clothing to elderly people.【3】How did Natalie help the survivors?A.She gave her toys to other kids.B.She took care of younger children.C.She called on the White House to help.D.She built an information sharing platform.【4】What do you think is the best title of the passage?A.A Girl Helps Make a DifferenceB.A Hurricane Disaster.C.Home is Best.D.Technology is Power.4.A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves — the positive(积极的) and negative(消极的) effects are just as lasting. We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit. This “self-talk” helps us motivate(激励) ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably respond in a similar manner. However, harsh and critical language will most probably cause the clerk to be defensive.Words possess power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem(自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours.【1】The main idea of the first paragraph is that ________.A.not sticks and stones but words will hurt usB.inspiring words give us confidenceC.negative words may let us downD.words have a lasting effect on us【2】There is no sense for us to feel embarrassed when we talk to ourselves because ____.A.almost everybody has the habit of talking to themselvesB.we can benefit (受益) from talking to ourselvesC.talking to ourselves always gives us courageD.it does no harm to have “self-talk” when we are alone【3】The underlined part in the third paragraph means that we should also timely______.A.remind ourselvesB.praise ourselvesC.make ourselves relaxedD.give ourselves entertainment【4】The author would probably hold the view that ________.A.encouraging words are sure to lead to kind offersB.negative words may stimulate us to make more progressC.people tend to remember friendly wordsD.it is better to think twice before talking to others二、其他Both men and women are living longer these days in industrialized countries.【1】 In general, they can expect to live six or seven years more than men. One reason for this is biological. One important biological factor(因素) that helps women live longer is the difference in hormones between men and women.【2】 Between the ages of about 12 and 50, women produce hormones that are involved in fertility(生育能力). These hormones also have a positive effect on the heart and the blood flow. In fact, women are less likely to have high blood pressure or to die from heart attacks.【3】 They help the body defend itself against some kinds of infections. This means that women generally get sick less often and less seriously than men. The common cold is a good example: women, on average, get fewer colds than men.【4】 Scientists are still not exactly sure how genes influence aging, but they believe they do. Some think that a woman’s body cells have a tendency(倾向) to age more slowly than a man’s. Others think that a man’ s body cells have a tendency to age more quickly.【5】A.However, women, on average, live longer.B.The biological factor plays an important part.C.Women are also helped by their female genes.D.The female hormones also protect the body in another way.E. Recent research seems to support both of these possibilities.F. Therefore, women are more healthy than men and can live a better life.G. Hormones are chemicals which are produced by the body to control various body functions.三、完形填空One day, a professor entered the classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test.
