Flying for a long time, you finally arrive at the place where you can relax—your hotel room. Now you throwyour bag on the bed, turn on the TV and watch an international news programmeon a satellite channel probably from UK or the USA.The main international broadcasters are BBC World and CNN. With an audience of over 1.5 billion people, these are popular channels that offer good-quality news programmes. In both companies, the journalists are experienced writers that produce journalism of a high standard. However, there are alternative news channels which people watch because they want a less traditional or non-Western view on world events. Russia Today and Al Jazeera International , an Arabic company, are international channels that broadcast in English. Both companies say theygive a fresh view on big stories, and their experienced journalists often report from places where Western journalists do not work, and so they give us stories that we don't normally see.The Internet offers more variety. OneWorldTV is an Internet site where you can find stories about the developing world and human rights, rather than the usual stories about US politics and business. The writers for this company are often local people who write the stories for free. This non-professional journalism is increasing, and it certainly offers more choices. This increase in citizen journalism means that you can write the news, too. Main news broadcasters often use photographs and stories that members of the general public send to them, especially when there is a dramatic breaking news story. Besides this, some blogs are popular sources of news, and the website NowPublic lets you write stories using information you can get from anywhere, including sites like Youtube, Flickr and Twitter .(1) The first paragraph is meant to.A. offer a suggestionB. give a warningC. explain a reasonD. introduce the topic (2) It can be learned from the text that more and more people will.A. prefer to read local newsB. pay more attention to world newsC. start a career in citizen journalismD. give up watching TV news programmes(3) What would be the best title for the text?A. Youth football team members rescued more than two weeks after sudden flooding trapped them in a cave in Thailand are now being well looked after at a hospital in the northern city of Chiang Rai. In addition to treating the boys for potential body fluid loss, inadequate nutrition and lack of oxygen, their doctors also plan to closely monitor them for symptoms of diseases that may have been infected by animals living in the cave."The next step is to make sure those kids and their families are safe, because living in a cave provides a different environment, which might contain animals that could transmit…disease," said the local hospital. The boys and their family members have been told to watch for symptoms such as headache, nausea(反胃), muscle pain or difficulty breathing, the reports added.Yet based on the location where the boys were trapped—more than four kilometers from the cave complex's main entrance, past some fully submerged passages—and the fact they have been swimming out wearing full scuba face masks, it seems unlikely that they were living with bats in the cave or breathed in bat-associated bacteria during their rescue, several infectious disease experts said. "It's hard to imagine bats got that deep into the cave because of all those narrow passageways, but it is possible," says Ian Lipkin, an animal expert and professor at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. "It's unlikely that there would be many animals in there," notes Jonathan Epstein, a doctor at EcoHealth Alliance, a nonprofit organization that studies diseases and how to prevent them. Bats typically like to rest in areas they can easily enter and exit, not in places that fully flood, he adds.Bats in Thailand have been linked with a wide range of viruses that are similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)—Lipkin says. But it seems more likely the boys would have been exposed to infection-causing bacteria when they swam through the dirty water with cuts and scrapes. "If you are trying to prioritize issues with respect to health care for these kids, number one would be psychological damage and second will be bacterial infections from the cuts and scrapes they may have encountered." Lipkin says.(1)According to the passage, which of the following is NOT the potential symptom of the rescued team members?A. Lacking body waterB. Unbalanced nutritionC. Pain in the head and musclesD. Adequate oxygen(2)The underlined word "submerged" in paragraph 3 means ____________.A. under the waterB. wild and dangerousC. with animalsD. bat-associated (3)Which is true about the caves and the trapped people?A. Jonathan Epstein thought it possible for the team members to be attacked by bats in the fully-flooded cave.B. Lipkin argued bats were not able to get deep into the narrow cave where the kids were trapped.C. Lipkin said the victims might be infected when their body were exposed to bacterial water during the rescue.D. Lipkin believed the most important issue for the cave-trapped teenagers was infectious bacteria examination.(4)What is the text type of the passage?A. An academic essay about bats.B. A newspaper article.C. A medical magazine.D.

When times get tough, we all look for ways to cut back. When we're hungry, we eat at home instead of going out. We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all-time highs, high school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education. One cost-cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor's degree in three years instead of four. Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there's a question: Would the quality of undergraduate education suffer? Few US universities have formally approved a "three-year degree" model.I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three-year curriculum any time soon. For one thing, most universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits. In addition, at famous universities, the committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives are unlikely to suddenly "throw out" one quarter of the required credits. Professors will resist "diluting (稀释)" the quality of the education they offer. In my opinion, a quality four-year education is always superior to a quality three-year education.A college education requires sufficient time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down education, any more than it's not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through university, we should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns (实习生) in meaningful part-time jobs that relate to their university studies, such as the five-year co-op program at Northeastern University.(1)Which of the following can best sum up the main idea?A.It's time to shorten the learning process.B.Best learning takes place over time.C.University education should be watered down.D.College education calls for reform.(2)We can learn from the passage that ________.A.most American universities are against the "three-year degree" modelB.many famous US universities are considering adopting the "three-year degree" modelC.professors are willing to accept the "three-year degree" modelD.The "three-year degree" model can make college learning more efficient(3)In most US universities, ________.A.college students are offered the co-op programB.electives' credits make up one quarter of the required creditsC.all students are required to finish four-year education before graduationD.some excellent students can graduate ahead of time(4)We can infer that________.A.the author is a college professor exploring ways to make learning more efficientB.the author thinks the cost of a university education is too high for people to affordC.the author considers the university education quality very importantD.the author pays special attention to the all-round development of college students【答案】(1)B(2)A(3)D(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,作者认为把大学四年的学制缩短为三年不是一个好主意,保证足够的时间才能保证大学教育的质量。

I received a brief 18-months of undivided attention and love as the only child, before three more appeared. The second was a severe blow. No doubt, learning the need to share was important, but I had tasted the life of an only child. Then came years of requests to look after the siblings(兄弟姐妹), being urged that, You should be setting a better example, “Again and again the others got away with doing wrong but I didn't. We each played our roles; the second one who later skipped school to meet boys; the ever so attractive third, the boy who could do no wrong; and finally the surprise appearance of the fourth, seemed certain to be spoiled even now. So that left me: the reasonable, quiet one who got the grades, did the housework and became a chameleon(变色龙)—skilled at reading a situation and being what was needed. Then eventually came the chance to be the first to leave and experience life on the outside, not defined(定义)as the eldest. The moment I had waited for. But now, many years later, being the eldest matters again. It's down to me; it seems, to take the lead in caring for our parents, AH the time I was made to learn about sharing; however, when it comes to responsibility, it no longer seems to apply. The others are too busy, too far away, or too unconcerned. So dutifully I travel many times across the country for hours to provide care and support. Requests to my siblings to help out more fall on deaf ears. To me, the dutiful first born, it feels like the right and only thing to do; to be there for our parents as they were for us. Sadly, that feeling isn't shared by the second, third or fourth.(1)How does the author comment on the four children in the second paragraph?A. Angrily and Bitterly.B. Angrily and proudly.C.

1.主旨题的标志:mainly about,mainly discuss,the best title2.

It was when I was walking to my office, trailed by three young people whose ages ranged from 16 to 25, flowing down the corridor behind me like the tail of a kite, that I thought of it for the first time. This could be because I am not actually a mother. Until recently, I was not a "real" stepmother either. But I have been living with the man who is now my husband, Bernardo for 10 years and in those 10 years, not only have his younger daughters spent every other weekend and half of their school holiday with us but also his son has lived with us full-time. In fact, when Bernardo asked me to move in, he asked his son for permission first.Being a step mum is hard enough but being a sort-of-step-mother is about the most awkward position a mature woman can find herself in. With my sort-of-steppies, I have occupied a place of influence, power and sometimes extreme anger by turns. I have stepped on a delicate path between being a grown-up friend, a bridge of influence with their father, the woman of the house, and a figure of authority – but not too much.Love the kids or hate them, you must always remember that no matter how much you cook, clean, hug, comfort and discipline, you will never actually count. To survive, I trained myself to love the stepkids as hard as I could, but not to care. It's a handy piece of good mental health trickery I recommend to anyone in my position. I can help with homework, yes, but not bother about the results of that homework. I can teach them good manners, but not care about the bad habits they learn at home. Semi-detached is the position.(1)Which of the following is true about Bernardo?A. Bernardo seldom cares about the kids.B. Bernardo dislikes living with his kids.C. Bernardo respects the opinion of his kids.D. Bernardo doesn't recognize his wife as a "real" stepmother.(2)What does the author think of her role in the family?A. She was totally favored by the kids.B. She has acted as an enemy of the kids.C. She didn't have any influence in the family.D. She was the communication bridge between kids and their father.(3)What's the author's advice for stepmothers in the last paragraph?A. Be partly engaged in kids' life.B. Care little about kids' behavior.C. Seldom get involved in kids' homework.D. Become the absolute authority of the family.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了作为一个继母应该如何与孩子相处才是一个适当的度。

As he observed her and spoke with her, he admired her more and more. He showered her with kindness and words of praise until she consented to be his wife. Not long after they were married, however, the beautiful woman found out that she was more the object of his artistic interest than of his affections. When he admired her classic beauty, it was as though he were standing in front of a work of art rather than in front of a human being to whom he had pledged his love and promised his life. And soon he expressed his great desire to put her rare beauty on canvas.“Please sit for me in the workroom,” he pleaded, “and I will make your beauty permanent. The work will be my masterpiece!”She was humble and patient as well as flattered by his words, so she said, “Yes, my love. I will be happy to sit for you.” So the beautiful, young wife of the artist sat meekly for hours in his studio, not complaining. Day after day she sat patiently, smiling as she posed, because she loved him and because she hoped that he would see her love in her smile and obedience. She sometimes wanted to call out to him, “Please love me and want me as a person rather than as an object!” But instead, she spoke nothing but words which pleased him.At length, as the labor drew to close, the painter became wilder in his passion for his work. He only rarely turned his eyes from the canvas to look at his wife. As he stood there gazing at his beautiful work of art, he cried with a loud voice, “This is indeed life itself!” Then he turned to his beloved and saw that she was dead!(1)In what way did the artist express his appreciation of his wife's rare beauty?A. Two of the saddest words in the English language are "if only". I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying "Take the extra minute to do it right." I always try to live by the "extra minute" rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an "if only" moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫) onto the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.I don't only avoid those "if only" moments when it comes to safety. It's equally important to avoid "if only" in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say "I love you" or "I forgive you." When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn't be here. But then I thought about the fact that he was 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn't give up an opportunity to see him. I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.I know there will still be occasions when I have to say "if only" about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that I'm doing the right thing. I'm buying myself peace of mind and that's the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being.(1)Which of the following is an example of the "extra minute" rule?A. Start the car the moment everyone is seated.B. Leave the room for a minute with the iron working.C. Move an object out of the way before it trips someone.D. Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better.(2)The underlined word "foregone" in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to______..A. abandonedB. avoidedC. lackedD. taken(3)The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to ________.A. join in the holiday celebration of the companyB. keep her appointment with the eye doctorC. finish her work before the deadline approachedD. meet her father who was already an old man(4)What is the best title for the passage?A. Tori Nelson got the idea after noticing that Matthew Finney, a shy boy from her homeroom at Winlock Miller Elementary School in Washington state, was standing outside his classroom crying and wearing a winter hat.Ms. Nelson could see the back of his neck had been shaved, and since Matthew usually had very thick brown curly hair, she realized that he'd had a haircut over the weekend. She asked him what was wrong, and he said he'd gotten a buzz cut for the summer. But this morning, a fifth grader on the bus made fun of him, and he didn't want to come to class and get teased by other kids. Ms Nelson tried to convince Matthew to come inside, but since school rules prohibit kids from wearing hats indoors he refused – explaining that he was afraid of showing his haircut to the other children in case they also made fun of him. Finally I said: "If you take off your hat and come to class, I'll let you give me a buzz cut, too," 'Ms Nelson told Yahoo Parenting. I figured it's just hair, and mine is already short anyway. I might as well get it shorter in time for the warm weather.'Matthew excitedly took her up on the offer, and Ms Nelson and another teacher gathered all the fourth graders together during break time. A school employee brought in scissors, which Matthew used to the cheers of his classmates, excitedly watching as his teacher's hair fell away onto the ground in the schoolyard.'It was a lot of fun for the kids, and it helped Matthew feel better about himself,' said Ms Nelson.' A study, conducted by David Evans of the World Bank and Anna Popova of Stanford University, looked at 19 programs around the world in which individuals were given cash transfers from the government, either as a handout or as a "reward" for something like getting kids to school on time or taking them to the doctor for checkups.Evans and Popova looked at the impact those cash transfers had on the family budget and whether or not they led to an increase in spending on alcohol and cigarettes .What they found was that they almost always led to a reduction in a family's alcohol and tobacco purchases. The news may surprise some people, but it's true, and the researchers have several theories about why.One theory is that the cash transfer made things possible that once seemed impossible. Investing in their kids' education or buying healthier and more expensive foods may be within reach now, but without the cash handout, these goals weren't even a possibility. So families cut back on other expenses (like alcohol and tobacco) to make those dreams a reality.Another theory is that people just generally seem to do what they're told. If they are given money and told to use it for their family's welfare, in most cases, they will do just that. And that leads to the third theory: These cash transfers are usually given to women, and studies show that when women control the purse strings, more money is spent on taking care of their children.Whatever the reason for the trend, the data is clear—families that receive cash handouts don't waste the money on booze and cigarettes as was previously thought. Instead, they typically use that money for the benefit of their families. And that's money well spent.(1)The study proves that .A. cash transfers help poor families get what would seem unavailable otherwiseB. cash should be given to poor people as a reward for something good for kidsC. given cash handouts, poor people would spend the money on alcohol and tobaccoD. poor people would save the cash given by the government for emergency needs(2)A cash transfer led to a reduction in a family's alcohol and tobacco purchases because .A. the education gained with the cash would help them drop alcohol and tobaccoB. the money previously for alcohol and tobacco would help realize their dreamC. buying healthier and more expensive foods left less money for alcohol and tobaccoD. that was the promise made before the cash transfer was given to the poor family(3)In paragraph 5, when the author said "women control the purse strings", he just meant " ".A. women are told what to doB. women are given the moneyC. women know what to do with the moneyD. women have the final word for money(4)The passage mainly tells us .A. how the study was carried outB. why cash transfer is preferredC. the findings of a study and explanations to themD. the theories for a study about cash transfers【答案】(1)A(2)B(3)D(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,世界银行和斯坦福大学的专家进行了一项研究,给贫穷家庭一笔汇款,结果发现汇款能够减少烟酒方面的花销,作者分析了出现这一现象的原因。

Years ago, students applying to colleges and universities had to have their applications and personal essays printed out and then “snail-mailed”. Flash forward to today's world of Facebook, Instagram and WeChat, where photos, videos and mobile phones rule. Fortunately, several new tools are making it easier for college applicants to use technology to show off their personalities, skills and creativity.ZEEMEEOne of the more popular innovations in college applications is ZeeMee, a free mobile app that allows students to upload personal profiles and videos to create visual resumes. More than 220 colleges and universities offer a ZeeMee option as part of the application process. The video can show the unique creative aspects of the applicants.THE COALITION LOCKERAnother relatively new tool comes from the Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success, now used by more than 110 member colleges and universities. Among the group's stated goals are getting students engaged in college prep early and using technology to create a supportive application process that encourages reflection and self-discovery.Students who sign up for the free platform get access to a digital “locker”, which they can use all through high school to save class papers, artwork, newspaper stories, videos and photos to share with colleges when they eventually apply.VIDEO — CHAT INTERVIEWSAt some schools, an interview with an admission officer is an important part of the application process. To make it easier, several virtual interviewing tools have popped up, such as a video-based platform from Kira. More than 140 universities worldwide use Kira's video assessment tool to conduct real-time interviews with prospective students. During the interview, candidates are shown the questions prerecorded by the particular school and must respond in real time by talking into the camera on their laptop or phone. In addition to showing their ability, to speak fluently in English and think on their feet, it helps admission officers determine the “motivation, commitment and drive” of applicants.UNIQUE SCHOOL TOOLSSome universities have come up with their own ways to allow students to show their skills and personalities. For example, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, encourages applicants to display their technical abilities and creativity by submitting a “Maker Portfolio” —a written or videotaped description of a project that shows creative and problem-solving skills. While a new app would fit the bill, the project could be anything from an origami design to a potato cannon.(1)Which of the apps give students more guidance from their high school?A. ZEEMEE.B. THE COALITION LOCKER.C. VIDEO — CHAT INTERVIEWS.D. UNIQUE SCHOOL TOOLS.(2)What does the underlined word “it” in the fourth part of the passage refer to?A. The video interview.B. The description.C. The application.D. The student's ability.(3)What is the common feature required by colleges and universities according to the passage?A. Creativity.B. Braveness.C. Willingness to share.D.

The number of giraffes is becoming smaller across Africa, according to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. The total population has dropped by 40 percent in the last 15 years. Surprisingly, even scientists haven't given much attention to giraffes. We are learning more about their ecology, but what we know is still way behind what we know about other species. "It's a silent extinction," said Dr. Julian Hennessy, a wildlife scientist."The main reason for the smaller number of giraffes is their loss of living places," said Hennessy, "as an increasing part of land is used for farming. But hunting also has a big influence." You might wonder why hunters would focus on giraffes. First of all, once a giraffe is brought down, there is lots of meat with a small amount of effort. Besides, there is another thing encouraging the hunting. In Tanzania, Hennessy says, the latest word on the street is that eating giraffe meat could cure AIDS. Fresh giraffe heads and bones can be sold at prices of up to $140 per piece.Another widespread misconception about giraffes is that they are everywhere. Look at kids' books which are full of giraffes. They are always in zoo collections. They can be seen easily, so you don't think we have to worry about them. But the truth is that they are in danger of extinction. There is a lack of right and true data.Hennessy and other researchers are now pulling together the data needed to improve the situation of the entire giraffe species and all nine subspecies (亚种). The information will be used to change the giraffe's listing on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, which now lists the species as of "least concern" but two subspecies as "endangered". "It's a lot of work to gather the necessary information," Hennessy says. "And several other giraffe subspecies will be recommended for endangered listings next year or the year after." He hopes that the world will finally start to take notice of how endangered these beloved animals have become.(1)By saying "It's a silent extinction", Hennessy tells us that ______.A. giraffes are unpopular in AfricaB. the giraffe is always silent in daily lifeC. the ecology of Africa needs more attentionD. the extinction occurs without enough attention(2)What has caused the high price of giraffe meat in Tanzania?A. The country's custom.B. The illegal international trade.C. The cost of hunting a giraffe.D. The idea that it's a cure for AIDS.(3)The misconception in Para. 3 can be corrected by ______.A. preventing illegal hunting in AfricaB. rewriting kids' books about giraffesC. providing reliable data about giraffesD. spreading scientific knowledge of AIDS(4)The final purpose of Hennessy's great effort is to ______.A. collect more information about giraffesB. raise public awareness of protecting giraffesC. prove giraffes will disappear in the next few yearsD. work with the International Union for Conservation of Nature【答案】(1)D(2)D(3)C(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了长颈鹿濒临灭绝的原因,并指出提供准确的数据,提高人们的保护意识至关重要。

1.Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.Once again DC Comics and Warner Bros. have divided fans and critics over their latest superhero film. There had been worrying news about Justice League in the months before its release, with a lot of reshoots of scenes, a new director being brought in to finish the film after original director Zack Snyder's tragic loss of his daughter and, of course, a lot of talk about Ben Affleck's future in the role of Batman. Some people are saying that Justice League is another big disappointment, that it could have been incredible and instead fails to really entertain. Others say that Warner Bros. have finally got it right and that the future for the League looks bright. My opinion lies somewhere in the middle. The film was by no means a disappointment: it was exciting, funny and a lot of fun to watch. There's something special about watching the heroes from your childhood brought to life on the big screen and maybe that is affecting my opinion. However, I will say that a lot of work needs to be done if the producer wants to make a great success. Although the film was good, it was obvious which scenes had been reshot and how the characters had been changed. I also have to mention the several scenes in which the special effects were very badly done; these are the kinds of problems that you don't expect to see in a film with such a big budget.Another point to add is that it is good to see the producer making Superman slightly a brighter character and adding some jokes to the plot to keep things fun. But the producer must be careful not to make the mistake that another film producer—here, not mentioning the name—is coming very close to doing: turning all of the films into bright and colorful shows and losing a lot of seriously good stories. In the end, Justice League is not a perfect film but it is definitely not a terrible one. A lot of work is still to be done but I hope that DC does not completely lose its darker side.(1)Before the release of Justice League, many people showed their ______.A. pity for the director, Zack SnyderB. concern about the film's qualityC. higher expectation of the new directorD. support for the actor, Ben Affleck(2)According to the author, what's special about Justice League?A. It advocates social justice.B. It brings lots of fun to the audience.C. It has some brave heroes.D. It brings back childhood memories.(3)In Paragraph 5 the author mainly wants to express his ______.A. views on the film's weaknessB. advice to the film's directorC. love for the filmD. expectation of the film's sequels(4)The author mentioned another film producer to ______.A. stress the importance of fun in a filmB. show Justice League's lack of a serious plotC. serve as a warning to the producer of Justice LeagueD. set an example for the producer of Justice League【答案】(1)B(2)D(3)A(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇应用文,介绍了作者对《正义联盟》这部电影的看法。

Mrs. Jones was my first patient when I started medical school—and I owe her a lot.She was under my care for the first two years of my medical training, yet I knew very little about her, except that she was thin, perhaps in her mid 70s. It might seem rather negligent not to know the basic facts of my patient ,but I had a valid reason—Mrs. Jones was dead, and had been dead for about three years before I made a patient of her. Mrs. Jones was the dead body that I dissected(解剖)over the first two years of my medical training.Of course, her name wasn't really Mrs. Jones, but it seemed a little impolite to be conducting research into someone's body without even knowing its name, so out of courtesy, I thought she should have one. “Me and Mrs. Jones, we've got a thing going on,” went the song coming out of the radio as I unzipped the bag of her on my first day — and so she was christened. As the months passed, I soon forgot that Mrs. Jones had, in fact, once been alive. One day, though, she suddenly became very human again. I'd been dissecting Mrs. Jones a good 18 months before I got around to the uterus(子宫). After I'd removed it, the professor came up to me, “If you look at the opening carefully, you'll see that the angle indicates that this woman has had several children, probably three.” I stared at it, and I suddenly felt very strange. This woman, who had given me something incredibly precious that I'd begun to take for granted, wasn't a dead body. She was a person, a mother, in fact.At my graduation, the same professor came over to congratulate me. I explained the story about Mrs. Jones to him, and recalled what he'd told me about her having children and how that had affected me all those years ago.“Well,” he said, “at the beginning of your training you had a dead body and managed to turn it into a person. Now you're a doctor, the trick is to have a person and not turn them into a dead body,” and he laughed, shook my hand and walked away.(1)Why didn't the author know much about Mrs. Jones?A. Because he was irresponsible for his patients.B. Because he wasn't allowed to ask for her privacy.C. Because he didn't know her until she passed away.D. Because he was too careless while dissecting her.(2)How did Mrs. Jones get her name?A. It was passed down from the seniors of my school.B. It came from a song being played when we first met.C. She was named after a well-known singer I liked bestD. It just occurred to me when I opened the bag of her.(3)What could be the author's feeling for Mrs. Jones now?A. Grateful.B. Pitiless.C. Hateful.D. Guilty.(4)What did the professor imply by his words in the last paragraph?A. Medical students are able to bring the dead back to life.B. Being a doctor has nothing to do with the medical training.C. Good doctors never fail to save their patients from dying.D. Medical staff ought to have respect for life and humanity.【答案】(1)C(2)B(3)A(4)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,作者讲述了和琼斯夫人之间的故事,说明了医务人员应该尊敬生命和人道。

Every country may have to consider what, if anything, to do about "global warming". We should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true.Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now. This is known to the warming establishment, as one can see from the 2009 "Climategate" emailof climate scientist Kevin Trenberth: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming atthe moment and it is an irony that we can't." But the warming is only missing if one believes computer models where so-called feedback involving water vapor and clouds greatly amplifiesthe small effect of CO2. The fact is that CO2 is not a pollutant and it is a key component of the biosphere ( 生物圈)'s life cycle. Plants get better growth with more of it and part of the increaseof agricultural yields in the past century certainly came from additional CO2 in the atmosphere.Although the number of the scientists who are publicly opposed to the claim is growing, many young scientists secretly say that while they also have serious doubts about the global-warming message, they are afraid to speak up for fear of not being promoted or worse. Why is there so much passion about global warming? There are several reasons, but a good place to start is the old question "Cui bono?", or the modern update, "Follow the money". Alarmism (危言耸听) over climate is of great benefit to many, providing government funding for academic research, and thus those people who benefit from this fiercely defended their dogma(信条) and the privileges it brought them.Every country should support rational ( 合理的) measures to protect and improve our environment, but it makes no sense at all to back expensive programs that turn away resourcesfrom real needs and are based on alarming but shaky claims of "incontrovertible" evidence.(1)What can we infer about the author's opinion on global warming?A. Global warming hasn't happened in the latest 10 years.B. Global warming has become an urgent problem these years.C. Global warming has worsened a little bit in the recent years.D. Global warming has never happened since measures were taken.(2)Which of the following statements about CO2 does the writer probably agree with?A. CO2 greatly affects the global warming.B. CO2 makes crops more productive.C. CO2 involves water vapor and clouds.D. CO2 is the most important part of the biosphere.(3)Why is there so much passion for global warming?A. Because it is a good chance for young scientists to be promoted.B. Because the scientistswant to have an insight into the problem.C. Because the government values the problem and tries to solve it.D. Because some peoplecan greatly benefit from the research about it.(4)What's the writer's attitude toward the programs to protect and improve our environment?A. To support all the programs as long as they are beneficial.B. To support cheap programsinstead of expensive ones.C. To support the programs that are necessary and reliable.D. To support those programs that use less money and resources.【答案】(1)A(2)B(3)D(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,论述的是“关于地球的变暖。

根据第二段中的“Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now.”

根据第二段中的“Plants get better growth with more of it and part of the increase of agricultural yields in the past century certainly came from additional CO2 in the atmosphere.”

根据第四段中的“thus those people who benefit from this fiercely defended their dogma (信条) and the privileges it brought them.”

根据第五段中的“Every country should support rational ( 合理的) measures to protect and improve our environment, but it makes no sense at all to back expensive programs that turn away resources from real needs”可知,作者对保护和改善环境的计划的态度是支持那些必要和可靠的项目。
