1If You Were Going Sightseeing, What Transportation Would You Take?Traveling and exploring new places is one of the most enriching experiences in life. When you're out sightseeing, the journey itself can be just as memorable as the destinations. The mode of transportation you choose can greatly impact your overall travel experience, convenience, and even budget. As a student, I've had the opportunity to venture out and discover different cities, both near and far, and I've learned that the right transportation choice can make or break a sightseeing adventure. For shorter trips or city explorations, my go-to option is often good old walking. There's something truly special about experiencing a place on foot, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells at a slower pace. It allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture, stumble upon hidden gems, and appreciate the little details that might be missed when whizzing by in a vehicle.Plus, it's an excellent way to stay active and burn off all those delicious local treats you'll inevitably indulge in.However, walking isn't always practical, especially when covering larger distances or dealing with luggage. In these cases, public transportation can be a lifesaver. Buses, trains, and subways are not only budget-friendly but also offer a unique glimpse into the daily lives of locals. There's something incredibly humbling about squeezing onto a crowded metro car, surrounded by people from all walks of life, each with their own stories and destinations. One of my fondest memories is navigating the intricate subway systems of major cities like London and Tokyo. The thrill of deciphering the color-coded maps, the rhythmic rumble of the trains, and the occasional disorientation when emerging from underground stations – it all added to the adventure. And let's not forget the convenience of hopping on and off at various stops, allowing you to explore multiple neighborhoods in a single day.For longer journeys or when traveling with a group, renting a car can be a liberating experience. The freedom to set your own schedule, take spontaneous detours, and blast your favorite road trip playlist is unmatched. Plus, having your own wheels meansyou can venture off the beaten path and discover those hidden gems that are often overlooked by tourists relying solely on public transportation. One of my most memorable road trips was driving along the picturesque coastline of California's Pacific Coast Highway. The winding roads, breathtaking ocean views, and the ability to stop whenever a charming seaside town caught our eye made the journey just as memorable as the destinations themselves.Of course, renting a car also comes with its challenges, such as navigating unfamiliar roads, finding parking, and dealing with the inevitable traffic jams. But for me, the sense of independence and flexibility more than makes up for these minor inconveniences. For those seeking a more adventurous and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation, cycling is an excellent option. Not only is it a great way to stay active and reduce your carbon footprint, but it also allows you to truly immerse yourself in the local surroundings at a leisurely pace. Imagine pedaling through quaint villages, winding country roads, or even urban landscapes, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells that would be missed from the confines of a car or bus.One of my most cherished cycling experiences was exploring the stunning countryside of Tuscany, Italy. The gentle hills, vineyards, and medieval towns seemed frozen in time, and the freedom to stop and picnic under an olive tree or explore a hidden chapel added to the enchantment of the journey.Of course, cycling isn't without its challenges, especially when navigating busy city streets or steep terrain. But with proper planning, appropriate gear, and a sense of adventure, it can be an incredibly rewarding way to experience a new destination. For those seeking a true sense of luxury and indulgence, private transportation services like taxis, rideshares, or even hired drivers can elevate your sightseeing experience. While more expensive, these options offer convenience, comfort, and the ability to sit back, relax, and truly soak in the scenery without worrying about logistics. One of my most luxurious transportation experiences was hiring a private driver during a visit to Bali, Indonesia. Our knowledgeable guide not only navigated the winding roads with ease but also provided invaluable insights into the local culture, history, and hidden gems that we would have missed on our own.It was a splurge, but the personalized service and lack of stress made it well worth the investment.Of course, no discussion of transportation for sightseeing would be complete without mentioning the unique and often iconic modes specific to certain destinations. From iconic double-decker buses in London to sleek bullet trains in Japan, these unique forms of transportation can be attractions in themselves. One of my most memorable experiences was taking a traditional gondola ride through the canals of Venice. As our skilled gondolier navigated the narrow waterways, serenading us with Italian ballads, the enchanting atmosphere transported us back in time, making the journey itself a highlight of our Italian adventure.Ultimately, the mode of transportation you choose for sightseeing can significantly impact your overall experience. Whether you prefer the freedom of a rental car, the convenience of public transit, the adventure of cycling, the luxury of private services, or the unique charm of iconic local transportation, the journey itself can create lasting memories. As a student, I've learned that being open to different modes of transportation not only broadens your horizons but alsoallows you to truly immerse yourself in the local culture and embrace the spirit of adventure. So, the next time you're planning a sightseeing adventure, take a moment to consider your transportation options – it might just make all the difference in creating unforgettable experiences that will stay with you long after you've returned home.篇2What Mode of Transportation Would You Take if You Went Sightseeing? If I had the chance to go sightseeing somewhere new and exciting, the first thing I would have to figure out is how I'm going to get around. The mode of transportation you choose can really make or break a travel experience. Do you want to just kick back and relax while someone else does the driving? Or would you prefer the freedom and flexibility to go wherever you want, whenever you want? There are pros and cons to every option, but here's how I would weigh the different choices.Probably the most convenient option would be to take some kind of guided tour. That way, you've got a knowledgeable local guiding you around and making sure you don't miss any of the must-see spots. A lot of tours use coaches or small buses to getgroups from place to place. These can be a great option because you don't have to worry about driving or parking yourself. You can just sit back, relax, and take in all the sights from the window as your guide provides commentary and insights. The downsides are that you're on someone else's schedule, tours can be pretty expensive, and the buses don't exactly have the most comfortable seating if you're traveling all day.Another guided option could be to hire a private driver or even just take taxis between destinations. Having a personal driver gives you more flexibility than a group tour, but it's also pricier and you may not get as much insider info. Taxis are relatively affordable for shorter rides, but the costs can really add up, especially if there's traffic or you're crisscrossing all over. It's just not the most practical for doing a full day or more of intensive sightseeing. For seeing a city or concentrated area, one of my favorite options is definitely the hop-on hop-off bus tours. These double-decker buses have routes that stop at all the top attractions and landmarks. You can just hop off wherever you want to explore, then hop back on and continue the loop when you're ready. The buses run on a continuous cycle so you can be as spontaneous as you like. Having a live guide or at least anaudio commentary makes these really informative too. My only complaint is that the buses can get quite crowded during peak seasons. If I wanted to cover more ground and see multiple cities or regions, I would probably look into renting a car. This gives you ultimate flexibility to make your own schedule and itinerary. You're not confined to a bus route or dependent on other transportation timetables. Having your own set of wheels puts you in the driver's seat, literally! The cons are that it puts the responsibility and stress of driving on you, especially if roads are hectic or you're navigating an unfamiliar place. Plus there are the added costs of rental fees, gas, insurance, and parking to consider.Whenever possible though, my absolute favorite way to experience a new place is by foot. You just can't beat walking tours for really immersing yourself and discovering all thoseoff-the-beaten-path gems. On foot, you can wander down alleys and side streets that bus tours miss. You can pop into that intriguing cafe or market youpass by. You're not insulated behind glass, but out in the open, absorbing all the sights, sounds, and smells. The pace is low and unhurried so you appreciate every detail. The only downsides are that walking canbe tiring, especially in hot climates, and you obviously can't cover as much ground as quickly as motorized transport. For longer distances between cities or regions, I would look into taking trains. Riding the rails just has such a classic and romantic feel, doesn't it? You can stretch out, relax, and watch the scenery glide by in comfort. Trains are generally less hassle than air travel too, with more lenient security and no catching flights. The stations are usually centrally located, unlike some airports. My one gripe is that trains can be a bit slow, especially here in the States where our rail infrastructure isn't as built out as Europe's, for example. But for shorter hops, it's hard to beat the convenience and comfort of train travel.Of course, in some cases flying just makes the most sense if you need to cover vast distances quickly. I'd just try to book nonstop flights to avoid the hassles of connecting through multiple airports. Once you land, then you can look into other localized transport. The only real downsides of air travel are the extra security, the costs if you don't plan ahead, and just that general feeling of being hurried and herded around that comes with flying these days. For exploring more rural or coastal regions, I've always thought it could be awesome to go on some kind of boating orsailing tour. How cool would it be to cruise around the Greek islands on a private yacht, for instance? You could cover a lot of ground, but still get that slower, more intimate experience of arriving by sea. Ferries could be a fun and affordable option too for island hopping. I just get motion sickness pretty easily, so I'd have to plan ahead with the Dramamine! In summary, if cost was no issue and I just wanted the most seamless, effortless travel experience, I would probably go with a combination of guided tours and private transportation, whether that's buses, drivers, or even private jets for long haul flights. In reality though, I'd aim for a mix of affordable public transport, trains, and lots of good old-fashioned walking tours in order to really immerse myself in the local culture and pace. Some carefully planned self-driving could allow for additional exploring off the typical tourist trails. And maybe I'd even budget a splurge activity like a helicopter tour or boat cruise for at least one leg of the trip, just for that extra "wow" factor. No matter how you get around, I think the most important thing when traveling is to remain flexible, open to improvisation, and ready to embracing the unexpected. Some of the most memorable travel experiences often arise spontaneously when you're willing to go with the flow and take the road less traveled, whether that's literally or figuratively. The best way to experience any place is to be fully present, observant, and receptive to everything it has to offer, not just rushing through to check items off a list. So by all means, make your plans and cover all your bucket list destinations, but also leave room for serendipity. That's when the real magic happens.篇3If I Had the Chance to go SightseeingI'm just a typical student, but like most people, I dream of traveling the world and seeing everything it has to offer. There are so many incredible sights, from natural wonders to ancient ruins to modern metropolitan cities. If I could go on a fantasy sightseeing adventure, how would I choose to get around? There are a lot of factors to consider! For me, the mode of transportation is a huge part of the travel experience itself. Sure, you could just hop on a plane and get somewhere fast. But where's the fun and sense of adventure in that? I think the journey is just as important as the destination when you're exploring this amazing planet of ours.I'm an environmentally conscious person, so obviously modes of transit that are fuel-efficient and have a smaller carbonfootprint would be ideal. Taking trains, buses, bicycles, and even walking from place to place appeals to me much more than renting a gas-guzzling car or SUV. Not only are those options better for the planet, but they allow you to really immerse yourself in the local culture and sights at a slower, more intentional pace.Another factor is cost - as a student, my budget is pretty limited. I'll have to be a frugal traveler, at least until I'm done with school and earning a decent income. Many public transportation options like buses, subways, and local rail systems tend to be affordable ways to get around, especially if you buy passes instead of individual tickets. Plus, you don't have to worry about high rental fees, insurance costs, parking fees, and gas expenses that come with having your own vehicle. With those priorities in mind, let me map out my dream multi-city sightseeing adventure and how I would get around using a variety of transportation modes:The journey would have to start with a long flight from my home airport to somewhere far away and exotic - let's say Bangkok, Thailand. I'd grudgingly accept the environmental impact of the flight to get there because, from Bangkok, I could rely mainly on urban rail systems, buses, taxis, tuk-tuks, andwalking to see the beautiful temples, palaces, museums, and markets of the city. After a few days in Bangkok, I would take an overnight train through the scenic Thai countryside to the historic city of Ayutthaya. There's nothing quite like the gentle rocking of a sleeper train to lull you into a restful journey. In Ayutthaya, I'd rent a bicycle or take a tuk-tuk tour to explore the ruins of ancient temple compounds like Wat Chaiwatthanaram. The next leg would be a bus ride across the border into Cambodia, where the majestic Angkor Wat temple complex awaits outside the city of Siem Reap. I'd spend a few days hiring a tuk-tuk driver to take me around the various sites like Angkor Thom, Bayon, and Ta Prohm, the haunting jungle-enveloped ruin famous from movies like Tomb Raider.Once I'd had my fill of ancient Khmer culture, I'd continue south by bus into Vietnam. In Ho Chi Minh City, the best way to experience the frenetic energy and enterprise of the streets would be by cyclo - those iconic three-wheeled pedicabs pedaled by drivers that allow you to take in all the local sights and smells as you whiz through the city. From Ho Chi Minh City, I would board an overnight sleeper train for the long journey up the coastline to Hanoi. The historiccapital city has an amazing public transit system of buses and trains, making it easy to use as a base while taking day trips by rail out to places like Ha Long Bay and the incredible seascapes of emerald waters dotted by rocky isles. If time and budget allowed, I could then take another train into China, bound for the bustling megacity of Shanghai. The subway system there is world-class - cheap, efficient, and one of the most extensive on the planet. Between the metro andride-sharing options, Shanghai's sights like the Bund riverfront, Yu Gardens, and towering skyscrapers would be easily accessible. From Shanghai, a domestic flight could bring me to Beijing where I'd undoubtedly want to spend some time exploring the incredible historical sites like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Great Wall of China. Guided tours with buses and/or hiking portions would probably be the best way to fully experience those landmarks.Depending on how much longer I could extend my travels, some combination of trains, ferries, and regional flights could get me over to Japan to soak in the neon-lit modern wonders of Tokyo as well as the stunning natural beauty and old-world charm of cities like Kyoto and Nara. Between the subways,Japan's high-speed rail network, and relatively affordable domestic air travel, it's easy to get around.Of course, this is just a hastily sketched dream itinerary - realistically, a trip like that could easily take 6 months or more to do properly while still being a budget-conscious student traveler. But no matter where I ended up going, I'd want my transportation choices to reflect an adventurous, environmentally sustainable, and culturally immersive way to experience the world.Whether trains, buses, bikes, boats, tuk-tuks, or just my own two feet, getting around by multi-modal local options is half the fun of travel for me. Constantly navigating unfamiliar transit systems and routes becomes a minor adventure and learning experience itself. You have to be resourceful, flexible, and ready to get a little lost sometimes. But that's part of what makes incredible memories. You meet locals, explore hidden corners, and make unplanned discoveries that you'd never encounter just zipping from place to place by plane or private car. The journey really does become part of the overall experience when you commit to public transportation, even with the occasional hassles and inconveniences that brings. In the end, we're all just temporary visitors on this earth. If I'm fortunate enough to go sightseeing one day, I want to explore in a way that appreciates our planet, learns from other cultures, and creates a lifetime's worth of irreplaceable memories through the adventures encountered along the way. For me, multi-modal local transit will hopefully be the key to making that happen.。

2021年上教版必修三讲义-Tourism controls 世界著名景点为控制游客数量出新招(教案

Tourism controls

Step 1 Vocabulary 词汇表tourism 词汇:旅游业jet off 乘飞机旅行attraction 景点must-see sight 必看景点breathtaking 美得惊人的ancient 古老的beauty spot 美景historic site 古迹charge 收费restriction 限制overcrowding 过度拥挤wear and tear 损耗,消耗tourist trap 旅游陷阱picturesque 图画般的,美丽的short-stay 只在某处短暂停留的mass tourism 大众旅游landing tax 入境税(乘船进入威尼斯的游客需交纳的税费)occupancy tax 占用税levy 税款accommodation 住宿infrastructure 基础设施love padlock 同心锁sightseeing 观光,游览Step 2 Reading and understandingI love holidays! There’s nothing better than jetting off to a foreign destination to visit the attractions it has on offer. Of course, I’m not alone. Millions of people are doing the same, and why not? The world has an amazing variety of must-see sights, from breathtaking natural scenery to impressive old cities. But the problem is that too many of us are visiting them at the same time, putting pressure on these delicate and ancient places. That’s why a number of beauty spots and historic sites have been introducing charges or restrictions on the tourists who visit. There are many reasons for this: to reduce overcrowding, which can spoil the ambience of a place, to manage wear and tear on old crumbling buildings, to tidy up the mess that visitors leave behind, or – as some may suggest – creating tourist traps to make more money out of the visitors. The famous Italian city of Venice with its picturesque canals has, for example, introduced an entry fee of up to €10 for short-stay tourists. Venetians have long complained that mass tourism is swamping the city. Now, passengers arriving by cruise ship will have to pay a ‘landing tax’ which Mayor Luigi Brugnaro says, “would generate much-needed income to keep the city clean.”Many cities in Europe already charge an occupancy tax on tourists who stay in hotels and guest houses. In the UK, Edinburgh is hoping to do the same, controversially making it the first city in the country to do so. This levy, that is usually charged per person per night of accommodation, raises money to help protect the environment, pay for infrastructure, or promote tourism. In Italy’s capital city, Rome, new laws are being introduced to clamp down on bad tourist behaviour, which some argue is spoiling the look and feel of the city. Rules include banning drinking water from fountains and attaching ‘love padlocks’ to bridges. As more of us can now afford to travel, tourist destinations are going to get busier, so maybe new laws and taxes are going to be a necessary part of the sightseeing experience.Step 3 测验与练习Task 1 阅读课文并回答问题。

Much of the groupware technology currently in use typically runs on office-based systems as software/hardware additions and peripherals. Standard PC configurations are either being supplemented by digital AV facilities, or dedicated and optimised personal computers are increasingly used to support, for example, desktop video-conferencing. Research in CSCW which contributed to commercial groupware systems has focused on the specifically ‘ collaborative’ aspects of work, typically involving investigation of how resources can be shared between participants, usually at remote locations. In simple terms this might mean that our personal databases, contact lists,

Much of the emphasis in the development of systems to support workgroups has been on the requirements for collaborative work - whether that is in terms of support for focused collaborative tasks, support for group process or for communication, There is however a growing recognition that the ‘ personal aspects’ of collaborative work are important. This recognition is based on questions such as: how do new forms of ‘ personal technologies’ into group fit working; how can technology provide the j7exibility to support both collaborative and personal work; and how can requirements for personal support be reconciled with those for collaborative work?
notes and documents form a resource for collaboration others as well as our personal work; a more complex with view
The issue of personal and collaborative work has been brought into focus with not only the development of more sophisticated ‘ office automation’ technologies which enable communication - particularly pagers, mobile phones, and voicemail - which are converging with computers and communications in the context of Personal Communication Networks (PCNs) - but also with the development of ‘ very personal’ technologies, such as the much-hyped PDA. These devices are ‘ personal’ in a way that groupware is not: most obviously they can be carried away from the desk and out of the office, but also they are invested with personal effort, information so that they fit into our personal work. Unfortunately, the issues in personal technology have often been framed merely in terms of mobility. The familiar myth of the ‘ road-warrior’ identifies one such consumer of personal technologies, but there are a variety of consumers of personal technologies ranging from ‘ roamers’ who work closely with others but who need some form of local communications, ‘ cruisers’ who have a greater degree of , mobility as part of their work and who may use a variety of information resources, and of course ‘ warriors’ who require , support for wide-area mobility and the ability to create and retrieve more complex information (figure 1).
Wide-area
of the issues suggest that our current projects
