We'd better develop our interest in English at the beginning of our study。

To develop interest in English study is not very hard。

We may have the feeling of satisfaction and achievement from our English study when we are able to say something simple in English, talk with others or foreigners in English and act as others' interpreters。

Plans are always very essential, so we must make some elaborate and workable plans before study。

And we should certainly carry out these plans to the letter。

制定英语学习计划太重要了,所以我们必须在学习前制定精细的和可操作的计划。

并且我们一定要严格执行这些计划。

请注意:千万不要干没有计划的傻事,那等于在浪费生命。

3。

Notes should be made whenever we study any book。

Lesson 1 A private conversation 私人谈话Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was very interesting. I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry. I could not hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They did not pay any attention. In the end, I could not bear it. I turned round again. 'I can't hear a word!' I said angrily.'It's none of your business,' the young man said rudely. 'This is a private conversation!'Lesson 2 Breakfast or lunch? 早餐还是午餐?It was Sunday. I never get up early on Sundays. I sometimes stay in bed until lunchtime. Last Sunday I got up very late. I looked out of the window. It was dark outside. 'What a day!' I thought. 'It's raining again.' Just then, the telephone rang. It was my aunt Lucy. 'I've just arrived by train,' she said. 'I'm coming to see you.''But I'm still having breakfast,' I said.'What are you doing?' she asked.'I'm having breakfast,' I repeated.'Dear me,' she said. 'Do you always get up so late? It's one o'clock!'Lesson 3 Please send me a card 请给我寄一张明信片Postcards always spoil my holidays. Last summer, I went to Italy. I visited museums and sat in public gardens. A friendly waiter taught me a few words of Italian. Then he lent me a book. I read a few lines, but I did not understand a word. Everyday I thought about postcards. My holidays passed quickly, but I did not send cards to my friends. On the last day I made a big decision. I got up early and bought thirty-seven cards. I spent the whole day in my room, but I did not write a single card!Lesson 4 An exciting trip 激动人心的旅行I have just received a letter from my brother, Tim. He is in Australia. He has been there for six months. Tim is an engineer. He is working for a big firm and he has already visited a great number of different places in Australia. He has just bought an Australian car and has gone to Alice springs, a small town in the centre of Australia. He will soon visit Darwin. From there, he will fly to Perth. My brother has never been abroad before, so he is fending this trip very exciting.Lesson 5 No wrong numbers无错号之虞Mr.James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst.Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr. Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury. The bird covered the distance in three minutes. Up to now, Mr.Scott has sent a greatmany requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other. In this way, he has begun his own private 'telephone' service.Lesson 6 Percy Buttons珀西.巴顿斯I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street. Yesterday a beggar knocked at my door. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. In return for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs. I gave him a meal. He ate the food and drank the beer. Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away. Later a neighbour told me about him. Everybody knows him. His name is Percy Buttons. He calls at every house in the street once a month and always asks for a meal and a glass of beer.Lesson 7 Too late 为时太晚The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House. While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!Lesson 8 The best and the worst最好的和最差的Joe Sanders has the most beautiful garden in our town. Nearly everybody enters for 'The Nicest Garden Competition' each year, but Joe wins every time. Bill Frith's garden is larger than Joe's. Bill works harder than Joe and grows more flowers and vegetables, but Joe's garden is more interesting. He has made neat paths and has built a wooden bridge over a pool. I like gardens too, but I do not like hard work. Every year I enter for the garden competition too, and I always win a little prize for the worst garden in the town!Lesson 9 A cold welcome冷遇On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minute hand did not move. We waited and waited, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted. 'It's two minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!' I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment, everybody began to laugh and sing.Lesson 10 Not for jazz 不适于演奏爵士乐We have an old musical instrument. It is called a clavichord. It was made in Germany in1681.Our clavichord is kept in the living room. It has belonged to our family for a long time. The instrument was bought by my grandfather many years ago. Recently it was damaged by a visitor. She tried to play jazz on it! She struck the keys too hard and two of the strings were broken. My father was shocked. Now we are not allowed to touch it. It is being repaired by a friend of my father's.Lesson 11 One good turn deserves another礼尚往来I was having dinner at a restaurant when Tony Steele came in. Tony worked in a lawyer's office years ago, but he is now working at a bank. He gets a good salary, but he always borrows money from his friends and never pays it back. Tony saw me and came and sat at the same table. He has never borrowed money from me. While he was eating, I asked him to lend me twenty pounds. To my surprise, he gave me the money immediately. 'I have never borrowed any money from you,' Tony said, 'so now you can pay for my dinner!'Lesson 12 Goodbye and good luck再见,一路顺风Our neighbour, Captain Charles Alison, will sail from Portsmouth tomorrow. We'll meet him at the harbour early in the morning. He will be in his small boat, Topsail. Topsail is a famous little boat. It has sailed across the Atlantic many times. Captain Alison will set out at eight o'clock, so we'll have plenty of time. We'll see his boat and then we'll say goodbye to him. He will be away for two months. We are very proud of him. He will take part in an important race across the Atlantic.Lesson 13 The Greenwood Boys绿林少年The Greenwood Boys are a group of pop singers. At present, they are visiting all parts of the country. They will be arriving here tomorrow. They will be coming by train and most of the young people in the town will be meeting them at the station. Tomorrow evening they will be singing at the Workers' Club. The Greenwood Boys will be staying for five days. During this time, they will give five performances. As usual, the police will have a difficult time. They will be trying to keep order. It is always the same on these occasions.Lesson 14 Do you speak English? 你会讲英语吗?I had an amusing experience last year. After I had left a small village in the south of France, I drove on to the next town. On the way, a young man waved to me. I stopped and he asked me for a lift. As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language. Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all. Neither of us spoke during the journey. I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said, very slowly,"Do you speak English?' As I soon learnt, he was English himself!'Lesson 15 Good news佳音The secretary told me that Mr. Harmsworth would see me. I felt very nervous when I went into his office. He did not look up from his desk when I entered. After I had sat down, he said that business was very bad. He told me that the firm could not afford to pay such large salaries. Twenty people had already left. I knew that my turn had come.'Mr.Harmsworth,' I said in a weak voice.'Don't interrupt,' he said. Then he smiled and told me I would receive an extra thousand pounds a year!Lesson 16 A polite request彬彬有礼的要求If you park your car in the wrong place, a traffic policeman will soon find it. You will be very lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. However, this does not always happen. Traffic police are sometimes very polite. During a holiday in Sweden, I found this note on my car: 'sir, we welcome you to our city. This is a "No Parking" area. You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs. This note is only a reminder.' If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!Lesson 17 Always young青春常驻My aunt Jennifer is an actress. She must be at least thirty-five years old. In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl. Jennifer will have to take part in a new play soon. This time, she will be a girl of seventeen. In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress and long black stockings. Last year in another play, she had to wear short socks and a bright,orange-coloured dress. If anyone ever asks her how old she is, she always answers, 'Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up!'Lesson 18 He often does this! 他经常干这种事!After I had had lunch at a village pub, I looked for my bag. I had left it on a chair beside the door and now it wasn't there! As I was looking for it, the landlord came in.'Did you have a good meal?" he asked.'Yes, thank you,' I answered, 'but I can't pay the bill. I haven't got my bag.' The landlord smiled and immediately went out. In a few minutes he returned with my bagand gave it back to me.'I'm very sorry,' he said. 'My dog had taken in into the garden. He often does this!'Lesson 19 Sold out票已售完'The play may begin at any moment,' I said.'It may have begun already,' Susan answered.I hurried to the ticket office. 'May I have two tickets please?' I asked.'I'm sorry, we've sold out,' the girl said.'What a pity!' Susan exclaimed.Just then, a man hurried to the ticket office.'Can I return these two tickets?' he asked.'Certainly,' the girl said.I went back to the ticket office at once.'Could I have those two tickets please?' I asked.'Certainly,' the girl said, 'but they're for next Wednesday's performance. Do you still want them?''I might as well have them,' I said sadly.Lesson 20 One man in a boat独坐孤舟Fishing is my favourite sport. I often fish for hours without catching anything. But this does not worry me. Some fishermen are unlucky. Instead of catching fish, they catch old boots and rubbish. I am even less lucky. I never catch anything -- not even old boots. After having spent whole mornings on the river, I always go home with an empty bag. 'You must give up fishing!' my friends say. 'It's a waste of time.' But they don't realize one important thing. I'm not really interested in fishing. I am only interested in sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all!Lesson 21 Mad or not? 是不是疯了Aeroplanes are slowly driving me mad. I live near an airport and passing planes can be heard night and day. The airport was built years ago, but for some reason it could not be used then. Last year, however, it came into use. Over a hundred people must have been driven away from their homes by the noise. I am one of the few people left. Sometimes I think this house will be knocked down by a passing plane. I have been offered a large sum of money to go away, but I am determined to stay here. Everybody says I must be mad and they are probably right.Lesson 22 A glass envelope玻璃信封My daughter, Jane, never dreamed of receiving a letter from a girl of her own age in Holland. Last year, we were travelling across the Channel and Jane put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle. She threw the bottle into the sea. She never thought of it again, but ten months later, she received a letter from a girl in Holland. Both girls write to each other regularly now. However, they have decided to use the post office. Letters will cost a little more, but they will certainly travel faster.Lesson 23 A new house新居I had a letter from my sister yesterday. She lives in Nigeria. In her letter, she said that she would come to England next year. If she comes, she will get a surprise. We are now living in a beautiful new house in the country. Work on it had begun before my sister left. The house was completed five months ago. In my letter, I told her that she could stay with us. The house hasmany large rooms and there is a lovely garden. It is a very modern house, so it looks strange to some people. It must be the only modern house in the district.Lesson 24 If could be worse不幸中之万幸I entered the hotel manager's office and sat down. I had just lost $50 and I felt very upset. 'I left the money in my room,' I said, 'and it's not there now.' The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing. 'Everyone's losing money these days,' he said. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. It contained $50. 'I found this outside this gentleman's room,' she said. 'Well,' I said to the manager, 'there is still some honesty in this world!'Lesson 25 Do the English speak English? 英国人讲的是英语吗?I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me. I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. he answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English?Lesson 26 The best art critics最佳艺术评论家I am an art student and I paint a lot of pictures. Many people pretend that they understand modern art. They always tell you what a picture is 'about'. Of course, many pictures are not 'about' anything. They are just pretty patterns. We like them in the same way that we like pretty curtain material. I think that young children often appreciate modern pictures better than anyone else. They notice more. My sister is only seven, but she always tells me whether my pictures are good or not. She came into my room yesterday.'What are you doing?' she asked.'I'm hanging this picture on the wall,' I answered. 'It's a new one. Do you like it?'She looked at it critically for a moment. 'It's all right,' she said, 'but isn't it upside down?'I looked at it again. She was right! It was!Lesson 27 A wet night雨夜Late in the afternoon, the boys put up their tent in the middle of a field. As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire. They were all hungry and the food smelled good. After a wonderful meal, they told stories and sang songs by the campfire. But some time later it began to rain. The boys felt tired so they put out the fire and crept into their tent. Their sleeping bags were warm and comfortable, so they all slept soundly. In the middle of the night, two boys woke up and began shouting. The tent was full of water! They all leapt out of their sleeping bagsand hurried outside. It was raining heavily and they found that a stream had formed in the field. The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent!Lesson 28 No parking禁止停车Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths. he has just bought a new house in the city, but ever since he moved in, he has had trouble with cars and their owners. When he returns home at night, he always finds that someone has parked a car outside his gate. Because of this, he has not been able to get his own car into his garage even once. Jasper has put up 'No Parking' signs outside his gate, but these have not had any effect. Now he has put an ugly stone head over the gate. It is one of the ugliest faces I have ever seen. I asked him what it was and he told me that it was Medusa, the Gorgon. jasper hopes that she will turn cars and their owners to stone. But none of them has been turned to stone yet!Lesson 29 Taxi! 出租汽车Captain Ben Fawcett has bought an unusual taxi and has begun a new service. The 'taxi' is a small Swiss aeroplane called a 'Pilatus Porter'. This wonderful plane can carry seven passengers. The most surprising thing about it, however, is that it can land anywhere: on snow, water, or even on a ploughed field. Captain Fawcett's first passenger was a doctor who flew from Birmingham to a lonely village in the Welsh mountains. Since then, Captain Fawcett has flown passengers to many unusual places. Once he landed on the roof of a block of flats and on another occasion, he landed in a deserted car park. Captain Fawcett has just refused a strange request from a businessman. The man wanted to fly to Rockall, a lonely island in the Atlantic Ocean, but Captain Fawcett did not take him because the trip was too dangerous.Lesson 30 Football or polo? 足球还是水球?The Wayle is a small river that cuts across the park near my home. I like sitting by the Wayle on fine afternoons. It was warm last Sunday, so I went and sat on the river bank as usual. Some children were playing games on the bank and there were some people rowing on the river. Suddenly, one of the children kicked a ball very hard and it went towards a passing boat. Some people on the bank called out to the man in the boat, but he did not hear them. The ball struck him so hard that he nearly fell into the water. I turned to look at the children, but there weren't any in sight: they had all run away! The man laughed when he realized what had happened. He called out to the children and threw the ball back to the bank.Lesson 31 Success story成功者的故事Yesterday afternoon Frank Hawkins was telling me about his experiences as a young man. Before he retired, Frank was the head of a very large business company, but as a boy he used to work in a small shop. It was his job to repair bicycles and at that time he used to work fourteen hours a day. He saved money for years and in 1958 he bought a small workshop of his own. In his twenties Frank used to make spare parts for aeroplanes. At that time he had two helpers. In a fewyears the small workshop had become a large factory which employed seven hundred andtwenty-eight people. Frank smiled when he remembered his hard early years and the long road to success. He was still smiling when the door opened and his wife came in. She wanted him to repair their grandson's bicycle!Lesson 32 Shopping made easy购物变得很方便People are not so honest as they once were. The temptation to steal is greater than ever before -- especially in large shops. A detective recently watched a well-dressed woman who always went into a large store on Monday mornings. One Monday, there were fewer people in the shop than usual when the woman came in, so it was easier for the detective to watch her. The woman first bought a few small articles. After a little time, she chose one of the most expensive dresses in the shop and handed it to an assistant who wrapped it up for her as quickly as possible. Then the woman simply took the parcel and walked out of the shop without paying. When she was arrested, the detective found out that the shop assistant was her daughter. The girl 'gave' her mother a free dress once a week!Lesson 33 Out of the darkness冲出黑暗Nearly a week passed before the girl was able to explain what had happened to her. One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water. During that time she covered a distance of eight miles. Early next morning, she saw a light ahead. She knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen. That was all she remembered. When she woke up a day later, she found herself in hospital.Lesson 34 Quick work 破案“神速”Dan Robinson has been worried all week. Last Tuesday he received a letter from the local police. In the letter he was asked to call at the station. Dan wondered why he was wanted by the police, but he went to the station yesterday and now he is not worried anymore. At the station, he was told by a smiling policeman that his bicycle had been found. Five days ago, the policeman told him, the bicycle was picked up in a small village four hundred miles away. It is now being sent to his home by train. Dan was most surprised when he heard the news. He was amused too, because he never expected the bicycle to be found. It was stolen twenty years ago when Dan was a boy of fifteen!Lesson 35 Stop thief! 捉贼!Roy Trenton used to drive a taxi. A short while ago, however, he became a bus driver and he has not regretted it. He is finding his new work far more exciting. When he was driving along Catford Street recently, he saw two thieves rush out of a shop and run towards a waiting car. One of them was carrying a bag full of money. Roy acted quickly and drove the bus straight at thethieves. The one with the money got such a fright that he dropped the bag. As the thieves were trying to get away in their car, Roy drove his bus into the back of it. While the battered car was moving away, Roy stopped his bus and telephoned the police. The thieves' car was badly damaged and easy to recognize. Shortly afterwards, the police stopped the car and both men were arrested.Lesson 36 Across the Channel横渡海峡Debbie Hart is going to swim across the English Channel tomorrow. She is a strong swimmer and many people feel that she is sure to succeed. Debbie's father will set out with her in a small boat. Mr. Hart has trained his daughter for years. Tomorrow he will be watching her anxiously as she swims the long distance to England. Debbie intends to take short rests every two hours. She will have something to drink but she will not eat any solid food. Most of Debbie's school friends will be waiting for her on the English coast.Among them will be Debbie's mother, who swam the Channel herself when she was a girl.Lesson 37 The Olympic Games奥林匹克运动会The Olympic Games will be held in our country in four years' time. As a great many people will be visiting the country, the government will be building new hotels, an immense stadium, and a new Olympic-standard swimming pool. They will also be building new roads and a special railway line. The Games will be held just outside the capital and the whole area will be called'Olympic City'. Workers will have completed the new roads by the end of this year. By the end of next year, they will have finished work on the new stadium. The fantastic modern buildings have been designed by Kurt Gunter. Everybody will be watching anxiously as the new buildings go up. We are all very excited and are looking forward to the Olympic Games because they have never been held before in this country.Lesson 38 Everything except the weather唯独没有考虑到天气My old friend, Harrison, had lived in the Mediterranean for many years before he returned to England. He had often dreamed of retiring in England and had planned to settle down in the country. He had no sooner returned than he bought a house and went to live there. Almost immediately he began to complain about the weather, for even though it was still summer, it rained continually and it was often bitterly cold. After so many years of sunshine, Harrison got a shock. He acted as if he had never lived in England before. In the end, it was more than he could bear. He had hardly had time to settle down when he sold the house and left the country. The dream he had had for so many years ended there. Harrison had thought of everything except the weather.Lesson 39 Am I all right? 我是否痊愈?While John Gilbert was in hospital, he asked his doctor to tell him whether his operation hadbeen successful, but the doctor refused to do so. The following day, the patient asked for a bedside telephone. When he was alone, he telephoned the hospital exchange and asked for Doctor Millington. When the doctor answered the phone, Mr. Gilbert said he was inquiring about a certain patient, a Mr. John Gilbert. He asked if Mr. Gilbert's operation had been successful and the doctor told him that it had been. He then asked when Mr. Gilbert would be allowed to go home and the doctor told him that he would have to stay in hosptial for another two weeks. Then Dr. Millington asked the caller if he was a relative of the patient. 'No,' the patient answered, 'I am Mr. John Gilbert.'Lesson 40 Food and talk 进餐与交谈Last week at a dinner party, the hostess asked me to sit next to Mrs. Rumbold. Mrs. Rumbold was a large, unsmiling lady in a tight black dress. She did not even look up when I took my seat beside her. Her eyes were fixed on her plate and in a short time, she was busy eating. I tried to make conversation.'A new play is coming to "The Globe" soon,' I said. 'Will you be seeing it?''No,' she answered.'Will you be spending your holidays abroad this year?' I asked.'No,' she answered.'Will you be staying in England?' I asked.'No,' she answered. In despair, I asked her whether she was enjoying her dinner.'Young man,' she answered, 'if you ate more and talked less, we would both enjoy our dinner!"Lesson 41 Do you call that a hat? 你把那个叫帽子吗?'Do you call that a hat?' I said to my wife.'You needn't be so rude about it,' my wife answered as she looked at herself in the mirror.I sat down on one of those modern chairs with holes in it and waited. We had been in the hat shop for half an hour and my wife was still in front of the mirror.'We mustn't buy things we don't need,' I remarked suddenly. I regretted saying it almost at once.'You needn't have said that,' my wife answered. 'I needn't remind you of that terrible tie you bought yesterday.''I find it beautiful,' I said. 'A man can never have too many ties.''And a woman can't have too many hats,' she answered.Ten minutes later we walked out of the shop together. My wife was wearing a hat that looked like a lighthouse!Lesson 42 Not very musical 并非很懂音乐As we had had a long walk through one of the markets of old Delhi, we stopped at a square to have a rest. 六年级下册英语unit2作文50个单词

六年级下册英语unit2作文50个单词

六年级下册英语unit2作文50个单词全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Wonderful FamilyI love my family so much! We have so much fun together. Mom is the best cook ever - her cookies are delicious. Dad tells the funniest jokes and makes us all laugh. My big brother helps me with my homework when I'm stuck. Little sister can be annoying sometimes, but she's really cute and sweet. On weekends, we go on adventures like hiking in the woods or having picnics at the park. Dad barbecues burgers and hot dogs. We play frisbee and tag. After, we snuggle up and watch movies together, munching on popcorn. Those cozy family times are my favorite. My parents work hard but always make time for us kids. They teach me good values like being kind, honest and working hard at school. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing, loving family. We may not be rich with money, but we're rich with happiness, love and wonderful memories together. My family is my whole world!篇2My Favorite Things in Unit 2Unit 2 in my English book is so much fun! It has cool stories and pictures about sports, games, and other fun activities. I really like learning about the different sports and games that kids play around the world. Some are just like the ones we play here and some are totally new to me!One of my favorite stories is about a game called sepak takraw. It's kind of like volleyball but you can't use your hands or arms - you have to kick or headbutt the ball over the net. The players have to be super acrobatic to keep the ball in the air. It looks really hard but also really exciting to play. I'd love to give it a try sometime!Another cool game I learned about is called kabaddi. It's kind of like tag but a lot more intense. There are two teams and one player runs into the other team's territory while chanting "kabaddi kabaddi." If they make it back to their own side before getting tagged and running out of breath, their team gets a point. It takes a lot of strategy and quick thinking. I bet it would be a blast to play with my friends during recess. My favorite part was reading about famous athletes from around the world who play these sports. Gymnasts like Simone Biles, soccer stars like Messi, and basketball legends like Michael Jordan are all so inspiring with their incredible skills and determination. Reading about them makes me want to work harder at the sports I enjoy like swimming and running track.Unit 2 wasn't all just about games and sports though. There were also stories about making healthy choices, having a positive attitude, and being a good teammate. Those are such important lessons, not just for sports, but for life in general. Treating others with kindness and respect, cheering each other on, and being a gracious winner or loser - those are the real games we should all strive to win.So yeah, Unit 2 was super engaging and I feel like I not only learned some awesome new English vocabulary, but also gained a deeper appreciation for the ways sports and games bring people together across cultures. Whether it's sepak takraw in Southeast Asia, kabaddi in South Asia, or basketball here at home, I love how these activities allow us to have fun, stay active, and celebrate what we all have in common as human beings. I can't wait to see what other fascinating games and inspiring athletes Unit 3 has in store!篇3Unit 2 was fun! We learned about daily routines. I liked the song "What Time Is It?" to practice telling time. The reading about a student's busy schedule made me think about my own day. Writing about my typical weekend was my favorite activity. And here is a longer 2000 word essay exploring the same topic in more depth, from a 6th grader's point of view:Unit 2 - My Daily RoutineUnit 2 in our English textbook was all about daily routines and habits. I thought it was a really interesting and useful unit to learn about. We did all sorts of activities related to talking about our schedules and ways we spend our time every day.One of the first things we did was learn a fun song called "What Time Is It?" to practice telling time. The song had different verses like "What time is it? It's 7 o'clock. Time to get up!" and then we'd all sing the rhyme together. My favorite part was doing the actions - like pretending to yawn and stretch for the "time to get up" verse. The song made telling time a lot more entertaining than just reading clocks! We also read a short story called "Marie's Super Busy Day." It was about a girl named Marie who had a packed schedule. The story described her entire day from waking up at 6:30 am, eating breakfast, going to school, her different classes, extracurricular activities after school, having dinner, doing homework, and finally going to bed at 9 pm. I could relate to some of Marie's routine, but her day seemed even busier than mine! After reading about Marie's daily schedule, we had to write about a typical day for ourselves. I wrote about my normal school day, describing when I wake up, what I have for breakfast, getting ready for school, my different classes, and my favorite activities. I also included some of my after-school activities like playing soccer practice twice a week. Writing out my own daily routine made me realize just how busy I am too!The unit also covered typical weekend schedules. We talked about leisure activities we enjoy like watching movies, playing video games, going to the park, or having sleepovers with friends. I particularly enjoyed the creative writing assignment where we had to describe our perfect weekend day, doing all of our favorite things from morning to night. I made sure to include delicious meals, family time, outdoor activities, and plenty ofrelaxation. It was fun to use my imagination and dream up my ideal weekend!Another activity I remember was interviewing a partner and taking notes about their daily routine. Then we had to present our partner's schedule to the class. This helped me practice asking questions about daily habits as well as listening carefully to describe someone else's typical day. It was interesting to see the variety of routines my classmates have.Overall, I felt that Unit 2 was very practical because having a conversation in English about your daily life is something really common. Whether traveling, making new friends, or communicating with English speakers for other reasons, talking about your daily routine is a great way to practice the language. The activities we did, like singing songs, reading stories, writing samples, interviewing each other, and sharing our schedules, helped prepare us for real-world situations.I can't wait to keep learning more practical English conversation skills. Mastering these fundamentals about daily life in the next units will give me more confidence to communicate fully in English. Developing these abilities at a young age will definitely benefit me in the future!篇4My School RoutineI'm a student in the sixth grade. We just started a new unit in our English class about daily routines. It's really fun and cool to learn about how kids in other countries spend their days.My daily routine is pretty simple. I wake up at 7am every morning. My mom comes into my room to wake me up. I don't like getting up so early, but I have to be at school by 8:30am. After I wake up, I get dressed for the day in my school uniform - white shirt, navy pants, and black shoes. Then I go eat breakfast. Usually it's cereal or toast with eggs.Next, I brush my teeth, comb my hair, and put on my backpack. My dad drives me to school at 8:15am. The drive takes about 15 minutes. I don't like sitting in the traffic, but I use that time to finish any last homework I didn't get done the night before. When I get to school, I go straight to my classroom and put my backpack in my locker. Class starts right at 8:30am with English. In English class this unit, we are learning how to talk about our routines using simple present tense verbs like "wakeup", "get dressed", "eat breakfast" etc. We also learn vocabulary words for everyday activities. After English, we have math class at 9:30am. Math is probably my hardest subject. We just started a new unit on fractions and decimals. I find it really confusing, so I have to pay extra attention in that class. At 10:30am, we get a short 15 minute break to snack and play outside for a little bit. That's my favorite part of the day because I get to run around with my friends. When we come back inside, we have science class from 10:45am to 11:45am. Science is my favorite subject because we get to do experiments and learn about cool things like planets, animals, and plants. Right now in science, we are learning about the life cycle of butterflies. After science is lunchtime from 11:45am to 12:30pm. I always eat the lunch my mom packs for me - usually a sandwich, fruit, and chips or crackers. Sometimes I also buy a milk or juice box from the cafeteria. In the afternoon from 12:30pm to 2:00pm, we have social studies and then art class. Social studies can be kind of boring when we just read from the textbook, but it's more fun when weget to learn about different cultures around the world. My favorite part of art class is when we get to paint or draw. I'm not a great artist, but I like being creative. Finally, at 2pm, it's time for gym class until 3pm. Gym class is awesome because we get to play sports and games like basketball, soccer, and dodgeball. I'm not very athletic, but I still love gym because it's a nice break from sitting at our desks all day.Once gym is over, it's time to go home! My dad picks me up from school at 3:15pm. In the car ride home, I tell him a little bit about my day. When we get home around 3:30pm, I have a small snack like fruit or pretzels while I start my homework. I spend about 1-2 hours working on homework every night. My mom helps me if I get really stuck on something.Around 5:30pm, I take a break from homework to eat dinner with my family. After dinner around 6:30pm, I finish up any remaining homework I have. Once my homework is all done, I finally have some free time! I like to read books, play games, or watch a show on TV to relax before bed.I start getting ready for bed around 8:30pm. I take a shower, brush my teeth, put on pajamas, and make sure my backpack isall packed for the next day. Finally, I get into bed and try to fall asleep by 9pm to restart my routine all over again tomorrow! That's my typical daily routine as a sixth grade student. While it's pretty scheduled and busy, I'm grateful to have the opportunity to learn new things every day. Hopefully reading about my routine helps you understand what life is like for a kid my age!篇5My Favorite Unit in English ClassUnit 2 in our English textbook this semester is definitely my favorite unit so far! The unit is all about food and healthy eating habits. As a 6th grader, I think this is such an important topic for kids my age to learn about. The first few lessons introduced a ton of new vocabulary words related to different foods and meals. I learned words like "vegetable", "fruit", "grain", "protein", "dairy", and more. We also went over words for specific foods like "broccoli", "strawberry", "rice", "chicken", and "yogurt". I really enjoyed learning all these new words through fun activities and games. After building up our food vocabulary, the unit moved on to teaching us about nutrition and a balanced diet. We learned about the different food groups and which nutrients our bodies need from each group. I found the section on vitamins and minerals really fascinating. Did you know that vitamin A is good for your eyesight and vitamin C helps heal cuts? So cool!My favorite part was when we had to track our eating habits for a week and analyze whether we were getting proper nutrition. It was kind of shocking to see how many unhealthy snacks I was eating and how few vegetables made it onto my plate. This unit has really encouraged me to make better food choices and try incorporating more fruits, veggies, and whole grains. We also learned about healthy vs. unhealthy fats, as well as good protein sources besides meat. I had no idea things like nuts, beans, and tofu were packed with protein! The lessons on portion sizes were eye-opening too. I'm much more aware now of appropriate serving sizes for different foods.Overall, this unit taught me so many useful things about developing lifelong healthy eating habits. The vocabulary and concepts we covered will definitely stick with me. I feel way more prepared to make nutritious choices for my growing body. I've already started packing fresh fruit for snacks and asking myparents to incorporate more veggies at dinnertime. Who knows, maybe I'll evenbecome a chef or nutritionist when I grow up! For now, I'm just excited to put what I've learned into practice.篇6My Favorite Season - SummerSummer is my favorite season of the year! I love the warm weather, the bright sunshine, and all the fun activities we can do during summer break. Let me tell you why summer is so amazing.First of all, the weather is just perfect. No more shivering in the cold or bundling up in heavy coats and scarves. Instead, we can wear light, comfortable clothes like shorts and t-shirts. The sun feels so nice and warm on our skin, and we can spend hours playing outside without feeling chilly.Summer also means no more school for a few months! That's right, no more waking up early, no more homework, and no more tests to worry about. We have so much free time to do whatever we want. My friends and I love to sleep in late, watch movies, play video games, and just hang out together. One of the best things about summer is going to the pool or the beach. There's nothing better than splashing around in the cool water on a hot day. I love swimming, building sandcastles, and playing beach volleyball or frisbee with my friends. And who can resist an ice cream cone or a cold popsicle on a sunny day?Summer is also a great time for family vacations and road trips. Last year, my family and I went camping in the mountains for a week. We hiked through the woods, roasted marshmallows by the campfire, and slept under the stars. It was such an adventure! This summer, we're planning to visit my grandparents in another state.Summer is also a time for fun activities and events in our community. There are outdoor movie nights in the park, concerts and festivals, and lots of sports camps and activities for kids. My friends and I love to sign up for soccer or basketball camps, or take art or cooking classes during the summer. As you can see, summer is truly the best season ever! From the warm weather and freedom from school, to all the fun activities and events, there's so much to look forward to. I wish summer could last forever, but I guess that's what makes it so special. Every year, I count down the days until school is out, and summer vacation finally begins!。

本周问题:由伊恩•弗莱明写的第一个詹姆斯•邦德故事的小说名是什么?a) Diamonds Are Forever 《金刚钻》b) From Russia With Love 《来自俄罗斯的爱情》c) Casino Royale 《皇家赌场》让我们一起来听节目,找答案吧。

听力内容:James BondNB: This is not a word for word transcriptAlice: Hello, I'm Alice.Rob: And I'm Rob.Alice: And this is 6 Minute English! I have to say Rob, you’re looking very smart and sophisticated in your dinner jacket and bow tie.Rob: Oh, thanks, Alice. I’m tryi ng to get in to character as James Bond because that's who we're talking about today.Alice: Ah, James Bond, probably one of the most famous fictional spies.Rob: Yes, British agent 007 was the smooth spy and hero of the novels by Ian Fleming.Alice: Well, even though Ian Fleming died in 1964, a new Bond book has just been published. But before I tell you more about it, Rob, here’s our question today. Do you know the title of the first-ever James Bond story that Ian Fleming wrote? Was it:a) Diamonds Are Foreverb) From Russia With Lovec) Casino RoyaleRob: Hmm… they all sound like old titles, but I’ll have a guess at Casino Royale.Alice: OK, well, as usual, I'll tell you the correct answer at the end of the programme. Now let's talk about this new James Bond novel. It's called 'Carte Blanche'.Rob: 'Carte Blanche'. This is the first story about James Bond that's not written by Ian Fleming.Alice: That's right. It has been written by American author, Jeffery Deaver. He normally writes crime novels, but of c ourse he’s a big fan of Ian Fleming and started reading his books when he was eight years old.Rob: Wow! That's quite young to be reading something that’s more suitable for adults!Alice: It is. Let's hear what he has to say about his parents encouraging him to read.Insert 1:Well, my parents had an odd rule in the household: my sister and I could read any book we could get our hands on - books were good. There were some movies that we were not allowed to see, so I picked up the James Bond books and was captivated with them. So Fleming was always part of my life as a reader and when I started writing, which was only a few years later, I modelled my books after his writing.Alice: That was Jeffrey Deaver who said he was captivated by the James Bond books.Rob: Captivated, so he was hooked on reading about him, especially as he wasn't allowed to watch any films – or movies.Alice: And when he started writing he modelled - copied the style of - the books on the writing of Ian Fleming.Rob: So it seems like he’s a good choice for someone to write the next Bond book. And it must have been a huge honour for him.Alice: A huge honour. He got the news by text message but, as he says, he didn't take long to say yes.Insert 2:I remember I was driving down the motorway and my phone buzzed with a text message. And of course I pulled over and I looked at it, and I debated 7, 8 seconds and answered that yes I would. The thrill was unsurpassed - I just can’t describe it.Rob: So he got a text message when he was driving. He pulled over and debated it with himself for 7 or 8 seconds. So he discussed it with himself!Alice: Yeah, and then he said yes! He said the thrill – the excitement – was unsurpassed; it couldn't be any better!Rob: I'm sure. But Alice, I know the world of James Bond is constantly being reinvented and updated, so how different is this new book from the old ones?Alice: Well, as you know, one of the best things about the Bond stories are the gadgets. And as this is the first book to be set in the 21st Century there are some very up-to-date ones, including an app to help eavesdrop on people.Rob: An app – or application – used on a smart phone. That sounds great. Anything else?Alice: Yes. There is a gadget for iris recognition. It can check who you are by looking at your eyes!Insert 3:Spies have always been on the cutting edge of technology and Bond is always outthinking the bad guys - he has to have his gadgets. The trick of if you have to give a message to an agent on the street, and yet you know you’re be ing listened to or observed - you tie your shoelaces in a slightly different pattern and that will convey the message. I love little things like that.Alice: So Jeffrey says that Bond is always out-thinking the bad guys.Rob: So he means he’s trying to thi nk beyond what the villains are thinking?Alice: I think so! That's why he said spies are always on the cutting edge of technology. They need them to catch the bad guys.Rob: Well, there aren't many Bond villians I would like to meet anyway, but they are very good to watch in the Bond films.Alice: They are, and of course the Bond film franchise is hugely successful. I wonder if this new book, Carte Blanche, will ever become a film? Anyway Rob, let's see if you got the correct answer to the question I gave you earlier.Rob: Ah, yes. You asked me what was Ian Fleming's first-ever James Bond book. And I said Casino Royale.Alice: And you were right.Rob: Ah!Alice: Casino Royale, first published in 1953. Well done! And before we go, let’s hear some of the word s and phrases that we’ve used in today’s programme.Rob: sophisticatedfictionalnovelscaptivatedmodelleddebatedunsurpassedeavesdropiris recognitionout-thinkingcutting edgefranchiseAlice: Thanks, Rob. Well, we hope you’ve had fun with us today on 6 Minute English - and that you’ll join us again next time. Both: Bye.

When we are writing we are often told to keep our readers in mind, to shape what we say to fit their tastes and interests. But there is one reader in particular who should not be forgotten. Can you guess who? Russell Baker surprised himself and everyone else when he discovered the answer.我们写作时常常被告诫,脑子里要有读者,笔者所云一定要符合读者的口味和兴趣。

Writing for MyselfRussell Baker 1 The idea of becoming a writer had come to me off and on since my childhood in Belleville, but it wasn't until my third year in high school that the possibility took hold. BBC Learning English6 Minute EnglishNew words in EnglishNB: This is not a word for word transcriptAlice: Hello! I’m Alice and this is 6 Minute English…. I’m joined today by Rob. Hi Rob.Rob: Hello Alice.Alice: Today we’re talking about some of the new words which have entered the English language recently.Rob:These are words which have been added to the Oxford Dictionary of English this year.Alice: There are quite a few but we thought we’d pick some which you might enjoy using. But first – a question – Rob can you guess how many newwords or phrases were added in this latest edition? Is it: 100, 2,000 or10,000.Rob:I would think that there are thousands of new words every year but not all of them are added to the dictionary. Let me have a think about it. Alice:I’ll let you know at the end of the programme, but first let’s hear from Catherine Sommes from the Oxford English Dictionary talking abouthow they choose which new words will make it into the new edition.Extract 1:What we can do – we’ve got software tools that actually show how words are being used, how widely they’re being used, so it’s not just a question of numbers, it’s a question of different places it’s being used so everywhere from magazines, to newspapers to chatrooms.Alice: So the company have software tools which are able to monitor newwords, how and when they are used.Rob: Catherine Sommes says it’s not just a question of numbers – theydon’t just measure how often a new word is usedAlice:And she uses that phrase again. It’s a question of different places –they also look at the different places where the word is used – forexample she says in magazines, newspapers and chatrooms.Rob:So a word must be used in a variety of places.Alice: That’s right. In order to make it into the dictionary it can’t just bejargon – words which are specific to particular fields of interest. Many of the new words this year come from social networking. Here’sCatherine Sommes again to explain:Extract 2Social networking as well is so huge – so we’re getting words in the dictionary now like de-friend, or un-friend which means take somebody off your friend list on a social networking site such as Facebook. We’re seeing lots of words like that come into the language now.Alice:Rob have you heard the words ‘de-friend’, or ‘un-friend’?Rob: I’ve never used them myself but I know what they mean!Alice: If you remove someone from your friend list on socialnetworking sites you might de-friend them, or un-friend them. It’seasy to make a new word just using the prefix de- and un- but it doessound a bit clumsy!Rob: How about blogging?Alice: Blogging has been in the dictionary for a while – but what about micro-blogging? That’s a blog which is really small – it could just bea sentence, a quick video-link or an image.Rob:Now, Alice, Do you know what a dictionary attack is?Alice: No.Rob:It’s an attempt to find out your secret computer password by trying an enormous number of words which might unlock it.Alice:That sounds nasty! And so do some of the new words and phrases which come from talking about the problems in the world’s economy. Can you explain what toxic debt is Rob?Rob:I’ll try! It’s the phrase used to describe a class of assets which were once valuable – mortgages or financial products – which are nowworthless.Alice:Pretty good! A toxic debt can be worthless or at least have a reduced value which is hard to find out. Here’s another one we’ve heard quitea lot over the last couple of years. Quantitative easing. That’s whengovernments put new money into the national money supply to easepressure on the economy.Shall we have something more entertaining? My favourite new word isthis one:Extract 3: VuvuzelaRob: Aha – that’s probably what the year 2010 will be remembered for. The hum of the vuvuzela at the Football World Cup in South Africa. Alice:So Rob have you thought about the answer to my question at the beginning of the programme. How many new words do you think wereadded to the dictionary this year? Was it 100, 2000, or 10,000?Rob: I think 100 is too little, and 10,000 is too many. So I’m going for 2000. Alice:Well done! It’s actually slightly more than 2000 new words andphrases in this year’s edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.Shall we hear some of them again?Rob:Yes of course. And here’s some of the other language we heard in the programme:editionsoftware-toolsa question ofchatroomsjargonsocial networkingde-friend, un-friendmicro-bloggingdictionary attacktoxic debtquantitative easingvuvuzelaAnd we’ve got time to listen to Catherine Sommes from the OxfordDictionary of English talking about the 2010 edition again:Extracts 1 and 2 (repeated)Alice:Well that’s all we’ve got time for today. Thanks for joining us and see you next time. Bye!。
