The biggest secret about invention is that anybody can do it! Perhaps this sounds crazy, but it’s true. Maybe you have the wrong idea about invention, so read on to discover the truth.
★Wrong idea 1: An invention has to be something completely new.
Inve ntion means creating something “new”, but the idea could come from something that is already there. Take Wright brothers for example, they got the idea of building a “flying machine” from watching birds.
★Wrong idea 2: Inventors are born, not made.
There are a lot of factors (因素) that make invention possible. Take Mozart for example. He was born with a musical talent. But other factors were also important for his creativity. His father was a music teacher, and Mozart practiced for hours every day from the age of four. Thomas Edison said that being an inventor was “99% hard work and 1% inspiration”!
Very successful creators don’t give up when they get something wrong. As Robert Stevenson said, “In order to succeed, you must fail, so that you know what not to do next time.”
★Wrong idea 3: ________
Don’t believe that you can’t invent anything when you are young. Here are two examples of young inventors: Louis Braille went blind when he was a child. When he was fifteen, he invented a system of reading and writing for blind people that is still used in most countries today.
As a young man, George Nissen was watching some artists performing in a show. He watched how they fell into the safety net and then jumped back up again. This gave him an idea, and he invented the trampoline (蹦床).
4.How many examples are there in the Wrong idea 1 and Wrong idea 3?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
5.Who said “In order to succeed, you must fail, so that you know what not to do next time.”

C.To introduce some famous inventors.
D.To explain the factors of making invention.

Tomatoes taste great. With a lot of vitamins, they are good for you, too! People all over the world enjoy this amazing fruit.
Not all tomatoes are red. They can be yellow, orange, pink, or white. All tomatoes are green before they are ready to be picked. Then the tomatoes turn their true color. That’s when they’re ready to eat!
Tomatoes first grew in the Americas. The Incas grew them over 1,000 years ago. They were introduced to Europe by the Spanish in the early 16th century. The Spanish and Italians seem to have been the first Europeans to accept them as food. In France, people grew tomatoes in the garden just to enjoy their beauty. Many people there thought tomatoes would make them sick. It was years before some of them would eat tomatoes.
Tomatoes are fruits. They grow from seeds. They won’t grow in cold weath er. But with water, sunlight and warmth, tomatoes grow fast. They can grow in pots or in the ground. As the plant grows taller, people may tie it to a stick. Next is the blooming stage. Flowers appear. The flowers turn into fruit. Some kinds of tomatoes can be picked in about six more weeks. Some tomatoes are large. One kind of tomato can weigh as much as two pounds.
You can eat raw tomatoes. First, wash them. Then, cut them up for salads or sandwiches. Tomatoes can be cooked, too. They can be grilled, boiled, or even fried. Do you use ketchup? It is made from tomatoes. Tomatoes don’t have a smell. But they taste great in foods around the world. Many dishes from India use tomatoes. Spaghetti sauce and pizza from Italy use them, too. Raw tomatoes are in Mexican salsa.

A.come in different colors B.can grow in all weathers
C.have a special smell D.grew in Europe first

Ten, nine, eight, seven … The fifth Long March 5 carrier rocket with the Chang’e 5 lunar probe (月球探测器) launched (发射) at 4:30 am on Nov. 24th, 2020.
The Chang’e 5 lunar probe plans to return with samples (样品) of the moon. The whole mission (任务) will last about 23 days, according to the China National Space Administration. If this mission is successful, Chang’e 5 will be the first lunar sample-return spacecraft since 1976, when the former Soviet Union’s unm anned Luna 24 brought 170.1 grams of lunar samples back.
As one of the most difficult missions, the Chang’e 5 mission aims to bring back a larger sample and explore a new area of the moon.
“The three unmanned lunar probes of the former Soviet Union—Lunar 16, Lunar 20 and Lunar 24—carried out three lunar samplings and return missions, and the lunar soil samples brought back were only about 330 grams, while Chang’e 5 plans to bring back 2 kilograms of lunar samples,” Pang Zhihao, a space activity researcher a nd author in Beijing, told Science and Technology Daily. The great increase in sample weight can play a key role in Chang’e 5’s lunar orbit unmanned docking program (月球轨道无人对接计划). With the program, the ascender (上升器) only requires a small amount of fuel (燃料), so even a heavier sampling will not influence the normal return of the spacecraft.
The best part of the journey is Chang’e 5’s lunar landing site—the northwest part of Oceanus Procellarum, also known as the Ocean of Storms—on the near side of the moon, where no probes have visited before.
12.When might the Chang’e 5 lunar probe return to the earth in 2020?
A.On Nov. 16th. B.On Nov. 24th. C.On Dec. 5th. D.On Dec. 17th.
13.What is the aim of the Chang’e 5 lunar probe according to the passage?
A.To be the first lunar sample-return spacecraft in the human history.
B.To bring back more lunar samples and explore a new area of the moon.
C.To find the three unmanned lunar probes of the former Soviet Union.
D.To visit the Ocean of Storms as other probes did before on the moon.
14.Which is TRUE about C hang’e 5’s lunar orbit unmanned docking program?
A.The ascender can normally return to the earth with a little fuel.
B.The ascender doesn’t need to bring back lunar samples any more.
C.The ascender is only able to carry lunar samples that are not very heavy.
D.The ascender no longer needs fuel to be back to the earth.
15.What is the tone (基调) of the passage?
A.Upset but romantic. B.Scientific and informative.
C.Proud but unclear. D.Doubtful and disappointed.
