Do you use emoji very often? It's said that emoji is the fastest growing language in history. Five billion emojis are sent every day just on some social media, such as Wechat and Facebook.
They're appearing in some surprising places too. One court ( 法庭) judge in England used a smiley face emoji in a document ( 文件, 文献) to make it easy to explain the court's decision to children. It's not surprising that there's a day to celebrate emojis, but what do you know about its organizers, the website Emojipedia?
The company Unicode actually creates the computer code that gives us emojis, but Emojipediais where you can learn exactly what each emoji means and how to use it. Most of us probably know and use the most popular emojis, like the classic smiley face, heart or the smiling face with tears of laughter. But if you want to grow your emoji vocabulary, you can use Emojipedia to find out new ways to speak emoji.
Unicode adds new emojis all the time. They might take time to be shown on all platforms and phones, but you will see them immediately on Emojipedia. An important improvement to the emoji list, which had 2, 823 emojis after its 2018 update, is to make the emojis more various. The code for each emoji is the same, but different platforms, like Wechat or Facebook, design their emojis in different ways. When Emojipedia was deciding on which day to hold World Emoji Day, only Apple was using a calendar emoji with a date on, 17 July. So, they decided to celebrate World Emoji Day on 17 July too.
If you want to send someone a message using emoji to celebrate World Emoji Day, Emojipedia has plenty to choose from, including six colors of raising hand emojis, five party emojis and two kinds of fireworks. You can even choose a world globe that shows the part of the world you live in. Whichever emojis you choose to celebrate, we wish you Happy World Emoji Day!
1.Why did a court judge use a smiley face emoji in a document?
A.To surprise children. B.To play a joke on children.
C.To attract children to study the law. D.To explain the court's decision to children.
2.Different platforms .
A.add new emojis all the time B.improve the emojis after 2018
C.design the emojis in different ways D.use the same emojis in the same situation
3.Which of the following is true?
A.Only Apple celebrates World Emoji Day on 17 July.
B.We can choose 13 emojis to celebrate World Emoji Day.
C.We can find out new emojis and how to use them on Emojipedia.
D.Five billion people send emojis every day on Wechat and Facebook.

15、Living abroad to study can certainly be an interesting experience but is that alone a good enough reason for spending years far away from home? To make the experience truly valuable, there has to be a purpose behind the decision to study abroad. This may be a wish to perfect language skills in a foreign language environment, or a clever move in your career development. You must also consider the costs, not just of living and studying abroad, but of applying (申请). Most universities now require international students to pay for application.
If you are sure that you want to apply to study abroad after considering these points, your next step is to choose the right programme of studies. Research your choices and choose carefully. You must do your homework well. Most universities have information online but you can also email and ask them to send you more details. Y ou can find a lot of information on school ranking from education websites. But read carefully. Different universities emphasize different strengths (强调不同的强项). Don’t just think about the university’s reputation (名声); look for the most suitable for your purposes.
Next, you must deal with a large pile of paperwork. This includes filling in application form, preparing your school records, and getting recommendation letters. Reading the instructions and requirements of the universities carefully is of great importance. Sadly, many fine applicants (申请者) get kicked out in the first round, simply because they don’t follow the application procedure (程序) properly.
Money is another important consideration. Some scholarships are provided by governments, others by schools and colleges. This information, again, can be found on the Internet. If you find a scholarship that is suitable for you, follow the application procedure carefully; the earlier you apply, the better your chance of getting it.

17、Students all around the world think it great to have some money in their pocket. But how much do they get?
In the US, a little pre-school kid may get a dollar or two, but older children get more. A lot of American parents give
pocket money to their children, but their children have to do chores.
In Britain, kids in primary school get 4 or 5 pounds each week. When they enter middle school, they get about 9 pounds. In London, children get 10 pounds every week, children in Scotland get 8 pounds, and children in Wales get the most, about 13.5 pounds! Also, in British, boys get a little more pocket money than girls.
Like kids in the US, British children do chores to earn their pocket money. That’s why British children know a lot about spending money. 7% of them spend less than £1 each week, 22% spend between £1 and £5, and 20% spend over £5 each week. What do they buy with their money? Most of them spend it on sweets, crisps and chocolate.
Some parents may ask the question, the answer is: Of course yes!
If children have some pocket money, they can learn to find out what things cost, save money for things that they want. There are lots of good lessons to learn:
★If you spend it all at once, there is no money until your next “pay day”.

18、International tourism is becoming more and more popular. Large numbers of people from all over the world come to visit famous places, such as the Great Wall of China and the Sistine Chapel(西斯廷教堂)in Vatican City. These visitors contribute (贡献)a lot to the local development, but at the same time they have caused many problems. They’ve thrown rubbish everywhere, brought more traffic and even done serious damage(破坏)to these places.
As for the damage, there are many different causes. For example, the paintings in the Sistine Chapel are being damaged because people breathe onto them when they visit. Damage in other places such as the Great Wall is serious partly because tourists climb on delicate(脆弱的)areas. Even though some of the walls were built of stone, after so many years, they are already in poor condition and need to be rebuilt.
▲On the one hand, we have to cut down tourist numbers, because fewer visitors will result in less damage. On the other hand, we should make strict rules about which areas people can visit and what they can do when they get there. For example, special paths(路径)can be built and people will not be allowed to walk off the paths. Visitors to indoor places can be asked to wear masks(面罩)to protect the paintings.
It is necessary to control tourism at famous places. If we do not do this, these places will disappear from our planet. And people who live hundreds of years later will have no chance to see these great places.

19、Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, my dear teachers and fellow graduates. It is a great honour for me to make a speech on behalf of the graduating class of 2009.
It has been three great years for us to study in this beautiful school. Our teachers always try to make their lessons lively and interesting. We have learned a lot over these years, but we could hardly succeed without our teachers' efforts, our parents' support and our classmates' help. At this moment, I would like to thank all of you for what you have done for us.
I wish our school more beautiful and all of us a wonderful future!
Goodbye, our beautiful school, our dear teachers and our friends.
Thank you for listening!。
