She is a cute, quiet girl. As a daughter, she has no secrets from her mother, who is very pleased with her. But recently she has become somewhat mysterious, not so open as before. She has a diary that she keeps under lock and key. Her mother cannot help worrying about her: what if she falls in love, which is too early for a girl of her age. After all, she is reaching the “dangerous stage”. These thoughts have caused trouble in the mother’s mind.
One weekend the girl came to tell her mother that she was going to the cinema with her schoolmate and would return late. This was the first time her mother agreed, and she couldn’t help worrying because her daughter had never been away at night before. The mother waited till nine and her uneasiness got the upper hand over her. She decided to go out to meet her daughter. Just at that moment the noise of a car pulling up drew her to the window and –there was her daughter, waving goodbye to a boy. Her heart missed a beat. When the girl came in, the mother was watching TV, pretending nothing had happened. “Mum, I’m back.”“Yeah.”“Sorry to be late. Still sitting up?”“Yes, Oh, that…Who’s that boy?”The daughter was stunned (发愣) for a moment. “Ah. It’s my m onitor. He gave a lift on his way home. Mum, I’m going to bed.” “All right. Go to sleep early.”
Next morning when the mother went to the daughter’s room to do some tidying, she found her diary left at her pillow. As we know, Bob told his mother that if he got married he would like to be a DINK. His mother is very worried about it. In order to make her happy, Bob downloads the following article from the Internet for her.
What has caused the sudden popularity of the DINK (double income, no kid) lifestyle? Mr. Buchanan lists three factors that lead to the DINK lifestyle and help explain why today’s culture mocks the old idea that “the good life for a woman means a husband and a houseful of kids.”
The first facto r is what Professor James Kurth calls “the greatest movement of the century”, the movement of women from their homes to offices, which is similar to the 19th century migration(迁移) of men from the farm to the factory.
The second factor is some women begin choosing to follow a career(职业) rather than raise a family. Modern industries offer well-paid jobs to able women, who can compete successfully with men. With more women working, families become wealthier and smaller.
The third factor is the end of the “family wage”. Before 1964, employers paid a man a “family wage” enough to support a wife and family. However, as women’s pay has greatly increased, men’s pay has dropped, and the traditional marriage and family have suffered. Young women are now more likely to be financially(经济上) independent and more likely to delay their marriage, or just not marry at all. Some choose to be DINKs.
To be a DINK is an increasingly popular lifestyle choice, one that is becoming more and more acceptable in our society.
49. Bob downloads the article from the Internet in order to__________.

Jogging is basically running at a steady speed over short or long distances. It has become
popular some twenty years and remained a favorite way of keeping fit for lots of people. One of the main advantages of jogging over many other sports is that it can be done anywhere.People jog around college campuses,in parks,in the countryside and even in urban areas.Special courts, fields and running tracks are not necessary.Similarly, no special equipment is required—no costly hats,or balls, and no expensive sports kit.Good quality running shoes are advisable, but otherwise the jogger can simply wear loose, comfortable clothing.Special jogging suits are widely available these days and can be bought quite cheaply but these are not necessary.
In addition to being able to jog anywhere, you can also jog at any time,in any season! It’s not unusual to see
joggers exercising in the height of summer or in the depth of winter! Jogging is a solo sport. You don’t need to wait until you have gathered a team or found a partner. You can jog alone. A few words of warning, however: lone female joggers should be especially careful to choose sensible jogging routes, particularly at night time.
The act of jogging doesn’t require any special training or skill. You do need to be basically healthy but then, after a few basic warm-up bends and stretches, you are ready to begin. You simply start running, gently, and then build up to a steady pace.Do not overtire yourself by trying to go too fast.A steady, comfortable pace is your aim.
Jogging is excellent for keeping fit. It’s good for the lungs, the heart and the circulation. It’s easy and it’s convenient. Why don’t you try it? If you require more information, talk to one of the instructors at the sports centre. We are only too happy to help. Please remember:if you do decide to jog.talk to your doctor first if you have any health worries.Happy jogging!
