In Canada you can find dogs, cats, horses etc. in almost every family. These are their pets. People love these pets and regard(看待) them as their good friends. Before they take them to their houses, they take them to animal hospitals to give them injections(打针) so that they won’t worry about diseases. They have pet food shops. Some people spend two hundred dollars a month on animal food. When you go to Canadian people’s homes, they will be glad to show their pets, and they are very proud of them. You will also find almost every family has a bird feeder in their garden. All kinds of birds are welcomed to come and have a good meal. They are free to come and go and nobody is able to kill any animals in Canada. They have a law against killing wild animals. If you kill an animal, you will be punished.
People in Canada love animals very much. Do you know why? One of the reasons may be: in their families when children grow up, they leave their parents and start their own life. Then the old people feel lonely. But pets can solve this problem. They can be good friends and never leave them.

They also eat cakes, cookies and a little sandwiches at tea time. This is so called “Afternoon Tea” in Britain.
In the United States, people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapots(茶壶).In summer, many Americans drink cold tea. Sometimes they drink iced tea from cans like soda (汽水).

Dear Xiao Qiang,
It’s a good idea to bring a small present when you go to a dinner party. Flowers are always nice, or you may bring a bottle of wine if you know that your friends drink it. You should arrive on time or five to ten minutes late. Don’t get there early.
If you are going to be more than fifteen minutes late, you should call and tell them.
Try to be free at the dinner tabl e. If you don’t know how to use the fork and the knife, just watch the other people, and follow them. If you still have no idea of what to do, ask the person next to you. Of course, you should thank them for the dinner and for the kindness.
Yours,
Alice。
