When I was a junior high school student in 1980, God gave me a gift. It was happiness.
One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home a car ran me over and cut off my arms because of its high speed.
Several days later when I woke up in the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life1arms. How sad I felt at that time!Even I was full of fears.2 slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over it. I couldn't get my arms back even though I 3 every day.
However, it's easier said than done. It took me nearly half a year to get out of the sadness4.
I got so much from my past story. From then on, I could treat my life with a5mind. But in our daily life, I often see my classmates get6about little things: They get a bad grade on a test; their bus comes7; they don't have a mobile phone but 8 have, and so on. But I only enjoy life. I was lucky to realize from an accident: It is a waste of our life to focus on what you have 9. We should always think of what we have. So why are so many people unhappy?Someone may say, "My whole life would improve 10I have a new car." But when you get the car, what will happen? For a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.
Happiness depends on what we have! It's in our heart. It's a state of mind. Even though you own the whole world, you may still feel unhappy. Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating(感激)and taking pleasure in what you really have.

10. (6分)阅读理解
As an English, I can speak three languages-English, German and French, so do you think the British people are very good language learners? The fact is that they aren't.
Some statistics(数据)from the survey done by the European Commission(欧盟委员会) showed that 62% of the British people only speak English.38% speak at least one foreign language and 18% speak two or more. Compared with the British people, 56% of the people in other European countries speak at least one foreign language and 28% speak two or more. From this you can see that the British people are famous for not speaking foreign languages and that they are not good language learners in Europe.
And the survey also showed that English is the most widely-spoken foreign language. Many European people can have a conversation in English. That's why my people don't think it is necessary to learn a foreign language.
In Britain, students are not required to learn a foreign language. That means learning a foreign language is only an option at school. In UK schools it is common for children to start learning a foreign language at l1 and many of them give it up at 14. So why don't students continue learning foreign languages at school? Because they think it is more difficult to get good marks in languages than in other subjects such as science or history.
To solve this situation, the British government is looking for different ways to improve language learning at school. One way is to start learning it at a much younger age. Another one is to give school children more choices.

12. (8分) Today we can use the Internet for many things: shopping, business, writing letters, talking to people, getting information and so on. In recent years, a new kind of English has grown on the Internet. There's no real word for it yet, so we call it e-talk.
People don't like typing too much. To save time, they turn phrases into a few letters, acronyms(首字母缩略词). Acronyms are often used in chat rooms. Some are as follows:
BRB (be right back), BTW (by the way), LOL (laughing out loud), IMO (in my opinion)
People also use many abbreviations. They are shortened forms of words. Some common abbreviations include info (information), pic (picture), puter (computer), sec (second), etc.
We usually don't see people when we communicate on the Net, so people have new ways to show feelings. Most people use their keyboards to draw "feelings", such as:
:-) (happy) ;-) (joking) :-( (sad) :-O (surprised)
These days, many public discussions have picture feelings, for example:
(happy) (sad) (angry) ( (cool)
There are even whole new words, like "newbies"(someone who is new on a chat board or forum). When you write something bad about someone else, it's called "burning" the person.
It takes time for people to get used to e-talk. Also, different groups on the Net have their own special ways of communicating. Newbies sometimes have to ask other people what they mean. As the Internet grows, e-talk will continue to grow and change.
(1)Why do people type acronyms?
A . To type them quickly.
B . To make jokes.
C . To make newbies puzzled
D . To show their feelings.
(2)What does the sentence “BTW, my puter is n ot working well. :-( ”mean?
A . The person is happy about getting a new computer
B . The person has to go away from their computer
C . The person is sad that his computer is having problems.
D . The person is angry at somebody.
(3)If someone is angry, what may he type?
A . LOL
B . BRB.
C .
D .
(4)E-talk will probably____________.
A . stay the same
B . keep changing
C . be used by people on the telephone
D . be easy for newbies to understand
(5)The best title for this passage is________.

Clara, 15 at the time, pressed the call button. An air hostess came by and explained the situation. "We have a passenger on the plane who's blind and deaf," she said. The passenger seemed to want something, but he was traveling alone and the air hostesses couldn't understand what he needed.
Clara had been studying ASL for the past year to help blind and deaf people and she knew she'd be able to finger spell into the man's palm. In fact there are lots of videos of school bullying online every year. We feel angry with the bullies and sorry for the victims in fights and blackmails. Some middle schools and primary schools in some far counties and villages are the worst-hit parts. Nearly half the victims of bullying in middle schools choose to stay silent rather than ask for help or ways to solve the problem, China Youth Daily reported.
There is a study on junior middle school bullying made by the China Women's University. It showed that 48.9 percent of the students never asked for help after being bullied. And the study also told us 52.6 percent kept silent because they were af raid of “losing face among schoolmates”.
The China Youth and Children Research Center made a survey of 5,864 primary and middle school percent of students suffered bullying, while 6.1 percent were often bullied by senior schoolmates.

Unlike direct arguments usually seen between boys, the violence between girls more often took the form of insults, which terribly caused victims have strong feelings, it was added.
A study published by the Beijing High People's Court showed that 68 percent of offenders attacked their schoolmates in a cruel manner and nearly 60 percent of school violence cases were caused by small matters, Legal Daily said.
Earlier, Tang Jun of Renmin University of China told reporters that the social risks of school bullying have been given too little care. We should train our teachers to deal with school bullying, improve their skills of preventing it, and help the victim students to recover physically and mentally. At the same time, students and their parents should know the school's rules about bullying and what they should do if it happens. Second, children should be taught to stand up for themselves.
