Canadian scientists have found a method to help aging people get less forgetful by improving their cognitive(认知)abilities through training.Everyone experiences memory loss and cognitive decrease as they get older. The decrease usually becomes noticeable after 50,when people may find it slightly more difficult to focus on tasks, organize everyday jobs
and remember how to do things in the right order.
A team of psychologists(心理学家)in Toronto created a strategy(策略)of cognitive training to help people preserve these abilities.“Our most important aim was on improving the use of general strategic abilities because they are particularly weak to the aging process,"said Dr. Donald Stuss, director of the study.
The team examined 49 healthy older adults with normal cognitive decrease, all of whom were between the ages of 71 and 87.Over the course of l2 weeks, psychologists taught them methods to improve their strategic abilities. The l2-week course was broken up into three four.week sections, focusing on different strategic abilities:memory, goal management and psychosocial function.Afterwards, researchers saw a l5 to 40 percent improvement in the memories of all these people.“Over a period of six months their improvement not only maintained, but increased,”said Dr。

Gordon Winocur.
“We wanted to develop a cognitive training program that would produce improvement over a short period of time,so people who take part in this program could benefit more on that while they’re still functional and slow down the rate of decrease。

" said Winocur.“If we can work with people in the early stages of cognitive decrease, then we can slow down the rate of this decrease and help them maintain a higher level of function for a longer period of time."
59.The underlined word “maintained'’ in the third paragraph probably
means““
A.weakened B.changed C.strengthened D.preserved 60.From what Winocur said in the last paragraph,we can learn that A.the training can prevent one’s memory from decreasing
B.the cognitive training program has been proved successful
C.the training has little effect on aging people who suffer from cognitive decrease
D.they aim to help aging people suffer less from memory loss and cognitive decrease
61.According to the passage we can learn that
A.the training time for each strategic ability is l2 weeks B.improving general strategic abilities can bring an end to cognitive decrease
C.improving the general strategic abilities can help aging people get less forgetful
D.aging people can avoid forgetfulness by improving cognitive abilities through training
62.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Saying no to the memory decrease.
B.Helping aging people preserve memory.
C.A new way to develop a good memory.
D.The importance of cognitive abilities.
D
We are not born doubting ourselves. We learn to do it.In fact,we are usually taught to doubt ourselves. We can learn some ways that allow us to become more accepting of ourselves.Following are two behaviors that might explain the reasons why you can’t move towards greater self—acceptance.
One thing that might cause you not to accept yourself is over—generalizing about something you’ve done that you don't like. For example,if you fail a test you might generalize and say,“I'm really a stupid person.’’When you do this you are making a statement about all of you all of the time and not just about this one situation at this time.Instead, you might decide that your grade on this test in this subject at this time was indeed poor, and then go on to decide what you want to do about your poor grade,if anything.Getting stuck in over-generalizing discourages you from taking steps that might allow you to do better on the next exam and to build an expectation of future failure。

Having standards that are impossibly high is a second way you can not accept yourself. It may not come as a surprise to you that most of us are more demanding of ourselves than we are of others. We don’t know why we can tolerate the fact that other people fail, that they aren’t always kind, that they’ve done things they aren’t proud of,but we have difficulty accepting those on ourselves. The need to be perfect is another way to set yourself up for failure and strengthen the feeling that you are not acceptable. We all make mistakes.Accepting less than perfection
simply means recognizing the limitations natural in being born a human being.Learn to value who you are rather than who you could become.Wouldn’t it be overpowering if we always had to do what we imagine we could do? Nobody has the time and energy to do all of that.We must make choices about what we will seek and do them the best we can under the conditions, which aren't always ideal.by the way.63.From the passage we can learn that 。

A.over-generalizing might cause you not to accept yourself B.over—generalizing might encourage you to expect the future C.we can tolerate the fact that we've done things we aren’t proud of D.we can feel that we are perfect when we set ourselves up for success 64.What has caused the lack of self—acceptance?
A.Tolerance and high—1evel.B.Limitation and expectation.C.Over—generalization and high—standard.D.Extreme difficulty and complete failure
65.Which of the following would the author agree to?
A.It’s necessary for people to be perfect.
B.It’s acceptable for people to be imperfect.
C.It’s strange for people to be bona w ith limitation。

D.It’s good for people to do everything they can imagine·
第二节(共3小题;共5分)
阅读下面文章并根据题目要求回答问题。

The kids get home from school-tired,hungry and looking for
entertainment. The last thing they want to do is to get on with their homework. However,at this vet)"time, parents often remind the kids to do their homework by nagging(唠叨).If that doesn't work, homework wars break out. But with some basic rules and good habits, they can be avoided。

When it comes to preparing your kids for homework success, one of the first things to begin is the environment they are working in.Not all children will like working alone in their bedrooms. Some children might prefer to study at the kitchen table, and providing that location works for the family, there’s no reason to force them into another room.Try to keep the house quiet and flee of distractions(干扰).If you‘re worried.you can’t provide the right equipment or environment at home, see whether the local library could offer a reading room to study. Also, some schools will offer homework clubs, where students can finish homework and seek help from teachers if needed.
Once you've got the study environment sorted, think about when it is the best time for homework to be done.If children are old enough to make plans,it can be worth sitting down together and breaking projects into smaller tasks to be finished on different nights. This can stop kids from feeling depressed and it also teaches them time management skills. If you follow the above rules, you can avoid homework wars. And remember that a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
66.What is the last thing the kids want to do after they get home from
school?
67.Apart from a quiet room at home, what other two good places can children study in?
68.What’s the main idea of the passage?
