My Awesome Summer Vacation
By Claude the Computer
Oh boy, oh boy! Summer vacation was so much fun! I had the best time ever! Mom and Dad took me and my little sister on a trip to America. We went to so many cool places and did a bunch of really neat stuff. I can't wait to tell you all about it!
We started our trip in New York City. That's a huge city with really tall buildings called skyscrapers. We went up to the top of the Empire State Building and I could see the entire city! It was amazing. We also went to this gigantic park called Central Park right in the middle of the city. You wouldn't believe how big it is! We rode bikes, had a picnic, and fed some birds and squirrels. The squirrels were so cute and would eat right out of your hand!
Then we took a train down to Washington D.C. to see all the monuments and museums. The first thing we did was go to the National Air and Space Museum. They had real rockets and
airplanes inside! My favorite was getting to sit in a flight simulator and pretend to fly an airplane. We also saw the White House where the President lives. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be. My sister and I got to meet Mickey Mouse at the White House Easter Egg Roll too! How cool is that?!
After Washington, we flew down to Florida to visit the Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks. We rode tons of awesome rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, the Haunted Mansion and more. My favorite was definitely the Rock 'N' Roller Coaster at Universal where you get to go upside down! My little sister was too scared to go on that one though. We also got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald Duck and all the other Disney characters. They even have a magic wand that makes it snow on Main Street! For our last night, we watched the fireworks show over the castle at Magic Kingdom. It was the best fireworks I've ever seen.
Our last stop was out west in Colorado to go hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains. We saw tons of wildlife like elk, deer, bighorn sheep and even a black bear! We went on a really long hike up to a waterfall, which was tiring but the waterfall was beautiful. Camping out under the stars was amazing too. You could see so many more stars than you can at home. We roasted
marshmallows and my dad told us scary stories around the campfire at night. I didn't want to leave!
Overall, it was just the best vacation. I got to see and do so many incredible things and make memories that will last forever.
I bought tons of souvenirs and took about a million pictures too.
I can't wait to go back to America again someday. I just had the best summer ever!

My Amazing Day at the Zoo
Hi friends! I'm so excited to tell you all about my awesome day at the zoo last weekend. My mom and dad surprised me and said we were going on a special family trip. When we got there, I could hardly believe my eyes! There were so many cool animals from all around the world.
First up, we went to see the monkeys. They were swinging from branches, making funny noises, and playing together. One cheeky little monkey even stuck out his tongue at me! I laughed so hard. The zookeeper told us monkeys are super smart and can use tools just like humans. Amazing!
After that, we walked over to the big cat area. The lions were lounging around soaking up the sun. But when the zookeeper brought out their lunch, wow! They came alive, letting out mighty roars that shook the ground. The zookeeper said a lion's roar can be heard up to 5 miles away! I was just a few feet from these powerful kings of the jungle.
The tiger was lurking in the shade, its stripes perfectly camouflaged. Suddenly, it pounced towards us, stopped by the safety glass. I jumped back, my heart racing! The zookeeper calmed me down, saying the tiger was just playing. Apparently, tigers are actually really curious cats at heart. I felt braver knowing they're not as ferocious as they look.
Then we went into the Reptile House, which was nice and warm. A thick branch was suspended above my head, and slithering along it was a huge green snake! It turned its head towards me, flicking its forked tongue in and out. The zookeeper said the tongue is how snakes smell since they don't have noses. Pretty neat! But I was glad there was thick glass between me and that monster snake.
In another room, there were all sorts of lizards and dragons basking on hot rocks. My favorite was the frilled lizard with the weird neck frill that puffs out. The zookeeper did a trick, tapping
on the glass, and the lizard puffed out its frill, opening its mouth wide. Looking pretty fierce! I could see why it's called a lizard dragon.
After the Reptile House, we got to go on the prairie dog trail walk. Hundreds of cute little prairie dog heads were popping in and out of their holes, keeping a lookout. The zookeeper explained how they are very social animals that live in underground villages with rooms and tunnels. I thought it was so cool that tiny little animals could build such complex homes!
The last stop was the aviary, a huge netted area with birds from the rainforest flying freely everywhere. We walked along the path as parrots, toucans, and other colorful birds zipped past our heads. At one point, a bird even landed right on my arm! The zookeeper said it was ok and that birds are very curious, too. It felt a little ticklish but I tried to stay super still. After taking a few looks at me, the pretty little bird flew off to join its feathered friends again.
By the end of the day, my brain was bursting with so many new facts about animals big and small. I had such an amazing experience seeing all these incredible creatures up close. The zoo is definitely one of the coolest places on earth for an animal lover like me! I'm already bugging my parents to take me back again
soon. Who knows what other awesome animals I'll get to see and learn about next time? I can't wait!

My Awesome Summer Vacation
Summer vacation is the best time of the year! No more waking up super early, no more homework, and two whole months to do whatever I want. This summer was especially awesome because my family took an amazing trip to the United States!
In Unit 1 we learned about travelling and different cultures. I got to experience so many new things on our trip. It started when we flew from China to San Francisco. I had never been on a plane before so I was really excited and a little bit nervous too. The plane was huge inside with lots of tiny windows to look out. The flight felt like it took forever but I watched movies, ate snacks, and tried to sleep to pass the time.
When we finally landed in San Francisco, everything looked and sounded so different from back home. The buildings were unique styles, the cars drove on a different side of the road, and everyone was speaking English instead of Chinese. My dad rented us a cool minivan to drive around in during our stay.
We spent a few days exploring San Francisco and saw so many famous landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and the crazy crooked part of Lombard Street.
I loved walking around Chinatown which felt almost like being back home, except everyone spoke English of course. The best part was riding the iconic cable cars - they were so steep and jerky but also totally fun!
After San Francisco, we drove down the California coast along the famous Highway 1. The views of the Pacific Ocean were breathtaking. We stopped at lots of little beach towns along the way and went tidepooling, built sandcastles, and just relaxed by the beautiful blue water. I had never seen an ocean before this trip so it was an incredible experience.
Our last stop was Los Angeles, the entertainment capital! We went to Hollywood and I got to walk along the Walk of Fame looking at all the handprints and footprints from famous stars. My mind was blown by the massive handprints from the Incredible Hulk! We also went on a studio tour which was really cool to see how they make movies and TV shows.
The highlight of LA though was definitely Disneyland. I had been dreaming about going there my entire life and it did not disappoint! From riding the incredible roller coasters to meeting
my favorite Disney characters, it was a full five days of pure magic and pixie dust. We also stopped by Universal Studios which had awesome rides themed to movies like Jurassic Park and Harry Potter.
Throughout our travels, I got to experience so many new cultures, languages, foods, and sights. My favorite meals were the delicious Mexican food in California - the burritos, tacos, guacamole, everything was so flavorful and different from Chinese food. I also loved all the fresh seafood we ate since we were right by the ocean. The most interesting cultural experience though was visiting The Getty Museum in LA to see all the inspiring artwork and antiquities from civilizations around the world.
In Unit 2 we learned about outdoor activities, sports, and lifestyles. I got to try so many new outdoorsy hobbies on this trip that I had never done before back in China. Hiking in the Hollywood Hills was challenging with all the steep climbs, but the views of the city below were amazing. We also went horseback riding one day which was incredibly fun and a little scary at first since the horses were so big!
My favorite new sport I tried was surfing. When we stayed in one of the beach towns, my dad signed us up for surf lessons
and I was able to successfully catch a few small waves which was exhilarating. It's a lot harder than it looks though and I definitely ate a lot of ocean water. Someday I'll get good enough to surf those giant waves!
As you can probably tell, this summer vacation was the best trip of my life so far. I got to experience a whole different culture, see iconic sights, eat delicious foods, spend quality family time, and just have a total blast. I'm grateful my parents worked hard to make this dream vacation a reality for us. It allowed me to make so many wonderful memories that I'll cherish forever. I can't wait for my next adventure!

My Summer Vacation and Healthy Habits
Hey everyone! My name is Tommy and I'm gonna tell you all about what I did this summer and how I'm trying to be healthier this school year. It was a pretty awesome vacation!
So first of all, my family went on this really cool trip to the Grand Canyon. We flew there on a plane which was so much fun because I had never been on a plane before. The flight attendants gave us pretzels and drinks and we even got to watch movies. I picked a superhero movie to watch. When we finally
got to the Grand Canyon, it was breathtaking! It's this humongous canyon that just seems to go on forever. The layers of red and orange rock are incredible. We went hiking along the rim trail and took tons of pictures. My dad tried to get me to do a stupid posed photo but I was like "No way, dad!" That's so embarrassing. We stayed in a hotel right near the park entrance and at night we could see millions of bright stars since there wasn't any light pollution.
After the Grand Canyon, we drove to San Diego to visit my cousins. It's about a 5 hour drive from the Grand Canyon. My cousins live right near the beach though which is awesome. We spent almost every day at the beach swimming, boogie boarding, and building sand castles. One day we even saw a few dolphins swimming pretty close to shore! My cousin David said it was a pod of dolphins traveling together. I didn't know they traveled in pods like that. We also went to some really fun waterparks and did a ropes course which was challenging but I loved it. Basically we just had a blast the whole time we were there.
When I got home from vacation, I knew I wanted to get back into some healthy habits for the new school year. I basically just sat around playin video games and eating junk food all summer which isn't good for you at all. So I decided I'm going to start
exercising more, eating better foods, and getting enough sleep at night.
For exercise, my dad helped me put together a schedule where I have to do at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Some days I go for a bike ride or do push-ups and sit-ups, but my favorite is just shooting hoops in our driveway. Basketball is my favorite sport by far. I'm hoping if I stick to this exercise routine, I'll be in really good shape for basketball tryouts later this year. My dad also said exercise helps your brain focus better in school which would be awesome.
As for eating better, I finally stopped drinking sugary sodas which was SO hard at first. I used to drink like 3 Cokes per day which is just not good for you at all with all that sugar and caffeine. Now I only drink water, milk, or 100% fruit juices. I've also been way better about eating fruits and veggies at every meal. My mom has been making these delicious salads with grilled chicken and all sorts of fresh veggies. I still allow myself a candy bar or chips every once in a while of course, but way less than before.
Finally, I'm working on getting at least 9 hours of sleep per night. I have a bad habit of staying up way too late watching YouTube videos or playing video games. My mom set a rule that
I have to put all my tech stuff away at 9pm so I can get ready for bed. I'll admit the first few nights it was pretty hard to fall asleep, but now I'm getting so much better sleep and I wake up feeling refreshed instead of a zombie. Getting good sleep is just as important as diet and exercise.
So those are the healthy habits I've been working on - exercising daily, eating nutritious foods, and getting enough sleep. Eighth grade started a couple weeks ago and I can already tell a difference in how I feel. My energy levels are so much higher and I'm able to focus way better in class compared to last year. Shoutout to my parents for helping me get into this routine! I'm gonna keep it up all year.
Welp, that's all I got for now folks! Eighth grade is going great so far. I'm excited for basketball tryouts, gonna keep up my healthy habits, and most of all I can't wait for summer vacation again next year. Maybe we'll go to Hawaii or something! Until next time, peace out!

Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I love learning English and want to tell you all about the first two units
we covered in my 8th grade English textbook this year. It was really fun and interesting!
The first unit was called "My Favorite Things" and it was all about describing the things we like and why we like them. We learned a bunch of new adjectives to describe different objects and activities. Some of my new favorite adjectives are "fantastic", "marvelous", and "spectacular"!
In this unit, we had to write a short essay about our favorite toy, food, TV show, etc. I chose to write about my favorite stuffed animal - a big fluffy teddy bear named Mr. Snuggles. I described how soft and cuddly he is and why he's so special to me. I used descriptive words like "velvety", "squishy", and "comforting". My teacher said I did a great job using all the new vocabulary!
We also read a fun story called "Paul's Favorite Day" which was about a boy who loooooved Saturdays because he got to do all his favorite things like sleep late, play video games, and eat pizza. It made me really look forward to my favorite day too!
The second unit was called "Trying New Things" and it focused on stepping out of your comfort zone and having new experiences. One of the first things we learned was how to politely make requests using phrases like "Could you please..." and "Would you mind..."
For example, we practiced asking things like "Could you please pass me the scissors?" or "Would you mind opening the window?" It's a much nicer way to ask for something instead of just demanding it.
We read a really inspirational story about a girl named Julia who was afraid to try the school play at first because she was shy. But her best friend encouraged her to audition, and Julia ended up getting the lead role! She worked super hard to overcome her stage fright, and in the end she had an amazing experience. It taught me that trying new things can be scary at first, but really rewarding in the end.
As a writing assignment for this unit, we had to pen a letter to a friend or family member persuading them to try a new activity with us, using phrases like "I think you would enjoy..." and "It would be a great opportunity to..." I wrote my letter to my grandma asking her to take a cooking class with me. I told her all the reasons why I thought she'd love it and how fun it would be for us to learn something new together.
My favorite part of this unit was when we did activity role plays in small groups. We got suggestions for different scenarios and had to act them out using the polite request phrases we learned. One time I played someone asking a classmate if they
could borrow a pencil, and another time I was someone requesting that my partner speak more softly in the library. It was a blast!
Overall, these first two units were jam-packed with awesome stories, activities, and new vocabulary to help improve our English skills. I feel like I've already learned so much this year and can't wait to see what other cool stuff is coming up next. Learning a new language isn't always easy, but it's super important and exciting! I'm going to keep practicing and one day I'll be a English master. Maybe I'll even become an English teacher myself when I grow up so I can make learning fun for other kids too!

My Summer Adventure
Hey guys! I'm so excited to tell you about the awesome adventure I had this summer. It was the best summer ever and I learned so much English along the way!
It all started at the end of the school year when my parents surprised me with plane tickets to visit my aunt and uncle in Australia. At first I was a little nervous because I'd never been on such a long flight before. But my parents promised we'd have an
amazing trip and that it would be great practice for my English skills.
The flight from China to Sydney took forever! I watched a bunch of movies on the little TV screen and tried my best to understand them in English. I even ordered my meals and drinks from the nice flight attendants using English phrases I've learned in class. "Excuse me, may I please have an orange juice?" I'd say, trying hard not to mix up my vocabulary words.
When we finally landed in Sydney after what felt like a million hours on the plane, the first thing I noticed was how bright and sunny it was outside. The second thing was that everyone was speaking English! I could understand a lot of it from my lessons, but there were definitely some thick Aussie accents that took me a while to get used to.
My aunt and uncle were waiting for us with big smiles.
"G'day mates! Welcome to Oz!" my uncle boomed in his deepest Australian accent. I giggled at how different he sounded compared to our textbook audio recordings. This was going to be an awesome English learning experience!
We spent the first few days just hanging around Sydney, going to the beach, visiting museums, and sampling all the delicious foods. Everywhere we went, I tried my best to order for
myself, ask questions, and chat with the locals in English. By the end of day three, I felt like my English conversational skills had improved a ton!
Then it was time for our big outback adventure. We rented a camper van and hit the road, driving through the vast Australian countryside. The landscape looked like nothing I'd ever seen before - mile after mile of wide open spaces with hardly any trees or buildings in sight. Just blue skies, red desert sand, and kangaroos hopping across the road!
Our first stop was at a huge cattle ranch owned by some of my uncle's old friends. As soon as we arrived, the ranch hands started chattering to me a million miles an hour in that strong Aussie slang I could barely understand. "You're the little sheila from Chiiiina, ayy? Welcome to the station, mate!"
I just smiled and nodded at first, having no clue what a "sheila" or a "station" was. But soon enough I picked up on the context clues and realized they were calling me a young girl and that the "station" was what they called their ranch. Still, words like "arvo" for afternoon and "mozzie" for mosquito had me scratching my head.
The ranch owner's kid, a boy just a little older than me named Zac, showed me around and taught me all about life on a
cattle station. He even got me up on a horse for the first time, which was both terrifying and exhilarating! Zac's English was a lot easier for me to follow than the adults', and pretty soon I was even picking up a bit of his Aussie twang.
After a few days on the ranch, we packed up the camper van again and continued driving west, deeper into the Outback. We passed incredible natural sights like Uluru, the famous sandstone rock formation that juts up out of the pancake-flat desert. At night we'd park the van, make a campfire, and cook dinner together underneath a sparkling canvas of more stars than I'd ever seen before.
One night around the campfire, my uncle challenged me to tell them everything I'd learned about Australian culture and English slang so far. Calling on all the new vocabulary words I'd picked up, I launched into my best imitation of a true blue Aussie:
"No worries, mates! This arvo we'll toss some snags on the barbie for a true blue Aussie cookout before the mozzies come out. Then we can kick back with some lekker bevvies and have a right proper chinwag! If you chuck a shickery, I'll even show you how to crack a nifty grouse...no dramas!"
As I yapped on and on, mangling the slang words and overdoing the accent, my aunt, uncle, and parents burst into laughter. They had no idea what I was saying half the time, but they were so proud of how much English I'd absorbed on our adventure so far. From then on, my mission for the rest of the trip was to become as fluent in Australian English as I possibly could...no dramas!
We kept exploring the Outback, driving deeper into the remote desert landscape. I practiced my English every chance I got, ordering meals, asking directions, and chatting up anyone willing to lend me their ear for a nice chinwag. By the time we looped back around towards the east coast, I was stringing together whole sentences in my best Aussie slang.
"Beauty day for a dip at the beach and a cheeky bevvy at the pub later, ayy cobbers?" I'd say, or "These new pluggers are giving me a ruckered foot!" when my sandals were hurting. Granted, I sounded completely ridiculous to native English speakers. But I was having so much fun embracing the Aussie culture and stretching my language skills to new limits.
On our last day in the country, we visited the famous Sydney Opera House for a tour and show. As we entered the grand theatre, the posh usher looked me up and down and asked in a
thick British accent, "Is the young lady requireeng...child-priced tickit for the day's performeence?"
I couldn't resist. Squinting my eyes, tilting my head back, and thrusting out my chin in my best Aussie bloke impersonation, I let him have it:
"CHILD priced?! You're havin' a larf, ya drongo! This bondi beauty's an Aussie sheila now, fair dinkum! Just toss us the full ruckered and we'll spatchcock her in, no wuckus!"
The mortified usher's eyes went wide as I let loose with gibberish slang-word vomit all over him. That's when my aunt and uncle finally intervened, apologizing through stifled laughter and explaining that I was just an American student having a bit of cultural fun on my last day in Australia.
That night as we ate one final delicious meal of shrimp on the barbie, I reflected back on what an incredible English language immersion my summer Down Under had been. In just a few months' time, I'd gone from knowing basic classroom English to really getting a taste of the rich cultural diversity in how people speak it across the world. Crazy slang, idioms, accents - each region puts its own unique spin on the English language.
I can't wait to get back to class and share all my new English skills with my teachers and classmates. More than anything though, this trip has me so excited to keep exploring the world. Who knows, maybe next summer I'll get to visit someplace like Scotland or Jamaica and pick up their wacky English slang. For now though, it's ″No wuckus, cobbers! Just a beaut arvo and a couple bevvies for this little Aussie ripper!"。
