1.L ittle Chimp and Baby Chimp
“W here is Mother Chimp?” said little chimp. “I can’t find her.”
Big chimp said, “Mother Chimp has gone into the forest. You can stay here and play with your friends.”
Little chimp played with his friends.
They played in the trees. They got some food to eat.
Then little chimp looked for Mother chimp again. “Oh, where is she?” he said. “Look!” said big chimp. “Here she comes!”
Little chimp ran to see his mother. Then he saw a baby chimp!”
All the chimps came to see Mother chimp, They patted her baby.
Little chimp sat down by his mother. “ I can help you look after baby chimp,” he said, and he patted the baby, too.
The sun went down. All the chimps went up into the trees. They made beds to sleep in up in the trees.
Little chimp s aid “I am big mow. I can make a bed for myself up in this tree,”
Mother chimp made her bed by little chimp, baby chimp went to sleep with her.
Little chimp went to sleep in his new bed, up in the tree.
2.T he House on the Hill
One day the white sheep said “M y house is very old. It is no good. I will get some wood and make a new house up on the hill. But who will help me?”
“I can help.” Said the grey rabbit. “ No you can’t” said the white sheep. “You are too little.”
“I’m not too little,” said the grey rabbit.“ I can dig the holes for the house.”
“I can help,” said the brown duck. “No you can’t” said the white sheep. “you are too little.”
“I’m not too little,” said the brown duck. “I can get some mud for the walls.”
“I can help.” said the red hen. “No you can’t.” said the white sheep. “You are too little.”
“I’m not too little,” said the red hen. “I can fly up and make the roof.”The grey rabbit dug the holes. The white sheep made the walls
The brown duck got the mud.
The red hen made the roof.
“We have made a very good house,” they said.
“Yes” said the sheep. “Thank you for helping me.”
Then they all went inside the new house on the hill
3.T he Swan Family
Mother Swan made a nest down by the water.
Father Swan got some sticks and grass for her
The nest got bigger and bigger and bigger.
Mother Swan sat down on her very big nest to lay her eggs.
Father Swan went down to the river. but he did not swim away. Mother Swan sat on her six white eggs for weeks
Then six baby swans came out of the eggs.
They all stayed in the nest with Mother Swan for two days.
Father Swan ran to help Mother Swan and the six babies.
Father Swan looked very big with his wings out. He ran at the boy. The boy ran away from the swans’ nest. He ran very fast.
Then Mother Swan and the six little babies walked down to the river. They all went into the water.
And the babies climbed up on Mother Swan and Father Swan to have a ride.
4.R abbits’ Ears
Emma said, “Look at my big ears, Gran! I’m a rabbit in the school play.” “and I’m a fox.” said Matthew.
Mum and Gran sat down,. They looked up at the stag. The rabbits came on and said, “We are little rabbits, Coming out to play. The foxes will not get us, we can jump away.”
The rabbits jumped up and down, the rabbits’ ears went up and down, up and down. “Oh, no!” said Mum. “Look at Emma’s ears!”
Emma’s ears went down onto her nose, then they came off.
Emma had to go on jumping with the rabbits, they jumped to the rabbit hole, but Emma had no ears.
Matthew came onto the stage with the foxes, they said, “We are t he foxes, One, two, three, Looking for some rabbits Where can they be?”Then Matthew looked down. He saw Emma’s ears. Matthew ran to the rabbits’ hole with Emma’s ears.
The rabbits and the foxes came back onto the stage, emma had her ears on.
“Now I look like a rabbit again,” said Emma, “said Emma, “Thanks, Matthew.”
5.N ew Glasses for Max
“Grandad,” said Max.
“I can’t see the words in my book.”
“I will take you to the eye doctor.” said Grandad.
The eye doctor looked into Max’s eyes.
“I will have some glasses made for you .” she said.
“They will be ready next week.”
The next week, Max went to get his new glasses.
He put them on.
“I can read my book ,now.” he said.
“You can take your glasses to school in this little case.”
smiled Grandad.
One day,Grandad said, “Where are your glasses ,Max?
You can’t read your books without your glasses.”
“I’m not going to take them to school any more .” said Max .
“A boy always laughs at me.”
“Come over here ,Max.” said Grandad.
“and look in this old photo book.”
“That is a photo of my dad.” said Max.
“Yes,” said Grandad.
“ In this photo he was six like you.”
“Your dad had glasses,too.” said Grandad.
“ You look like him,Max.”
“My dad has got his glasses on in all the photos,” said Max.“Yes,” said Grandad .” He liked them.”
Max went over to his toy box .
“I hid my glasses in here,” he said.
“I don’t care if that boy laughs at me.”
“Jake is your best friend ,”said Grandad,
“and he does not laugh at you.”
Max put his glasses on.
Max looked in the mirror.
“I do look like my dad.” he said.
6.T he Rocket Ship
Emma and Matthew loved staying with their Gran and Grandad. They had an old house with lots of rooms to play in.
But best of all ,Gran and Grandad had a big tree in their garden.
One morning, Matthew looked out the window.
“It’s windy again,”he said to Emma,
“and we can’t go out and climb the tree.”
“It’s raining, too,” said Emma.
“We will have to play inside today.”
That night, the wind blew very hard.
Emma called out to Matthew.
“Matthew,” she said. “I’m scared!”
Gran and Grandad came in to see them.
“It’s a very windy night,”said Grandad.
“Try to go to sleep.”
Then……
“The big tree had fallen over!” said Gran.
“Oh,no!” said Matthew.
“Now we won’t have a tree to climb.”
“We atre lucky that it didnit hit the house,” said Grandad.
Gran gave them a hug.
“Go to sleep,” she said.
“The wind will stop blowing soon. We will have a godd look at the tree in the morning.”
The next morning, they all went out to look at the tree.
“Oh ,dear,”said Grandad.
“It was the best tree ever,”said Emma.
“We could climb into the branches and hide there. No one could see us.”
“And now I will have to cut it up for firewood,”said Grandad.
“Please don’t cut it up,Grandad,”cried Matthew.
“We could still play on it .”
“Yes,”said Emma.
“It could be our rocket ship.”
“We could fly all over the place in it .”said Matthew.
“Come on ,Emma.”
Matthew and Emma raced over to the tree and climbed up.
“I’m the captain,”said Emma.
“Are you ready for take-off , Matthew?”
“Ready , Captain!” shouted M atthew.
“Ready to fire the rockets ….. now!
10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1!”
“We have lift-off!”
Emma shouted back at him.
“Here we go!” “Whoosh!” laughed Gran and Grandad.
7.T he Blow-away Kite
Mum and Dad gave Ben a beautiful kite for his birthday.
It was pink and orange, with a red tail.
It had a long string that went round and round a white plastic ring. “Let’s go down to the beach and fly it!” said Dad.
“It’s a good day for flying a kite.”
They took the kite down to the beach.
“We will show you what to do.” M um said to Ben.
“Put your arm in the plastic ring. Then the kite won’t blow away from you.”
Ben put his arm in the ring and held onto the string.
Dad held the kite up, and Ben started to run down the beach.
Then Dad let go of the kite.
The kite went way up into the air. They all watched it .
Ben was very pleased with himself .
“That looks like fun!” said Dad.
“You can have a turn now,” said Ben, as he pulled the kite down. “But please be careful with it .”
“I’ll be careful,” said Da d, and he ran along the beach with the kite. Dad was looking up at the kite. He was not watching where he was going.
Dad tripped over, and the string slipped out of his hand . The kite went flying away in the wind.
The kite went out over the waves.
“Oh ,no !” cried Ben.
“My new kite has gone! I will never get it back.”
But then the kite splashed down into the sea.
Dad ran down the beach and right into the waves.
He saved the kite just in time.
“I’m sorry I let your kite go ,” Dad said to Ben.
Ben and Mum laughed.
“You have to put your arm in the plastic ring ,”said Ben.
“Then it won’t blow away from you!”
The Little Blue Horse
Clare was Abby’s best friend. When she went to Abby’s place, they always played with Abby’s toy horses.
Clare and Abby would make the horses go across the table and jump over little fences.
The horse that Abby liked best was a little blue one with a long white tail.
Abby was always careful when she played with it.
She didn’t want her best horse to get broken.
But one day, the l ittle blue horse slipped out of Clare’s hand and a leg broke off.
Clare looked down at the little blue horse.
She started to cry.
“Don’t cry, Clare ,” said Abby’s mum.
“I can glue the leg on again.”
Clare and Abby watched as Mum tried to fix the horse.
“Soon your horse will be as good as new,” said Mum.
But when the glue was dry, the little blue horse kept falling over. They could not get the blue horse to stay on its feet.
Clare and Abby were very sad.
The next Saturday, Clare was in town with her dad.
They stopped to look in a shop window.
Clare could see a lot of things.
She saw some old teddy bears and some old books.
And then Clare saw a little horse with a long white tail.
It was just like the one she had broken.
“Dad , look at that little horse!” cried Clare. “I have to buy it for Abby.”Clare took her money out of her pocket and looked at it.
“Do you want me to come in with you?” asked Dad.
“No thanks,” said Clare.
“I want to buy it all by myself.” And she went into the shop.
Then Dad took Clare to Abby’s place.
“Look, Abby !” said Clare.
“Look what I found in a shop!”
“A little blue horse!” laughed Abby.
“It’s just like my other one. Oh thank you, Clare!”
8.C hooky
Chooky and her nine little yellow chicks were walking around the farm. Chooky was looking for food to give her babies.
She looked in the grass and she looked under the stones .
Chooky didn’t see a big rat hidding under the hen house. It was watching Chooky and her nine little chicks.
The rat wanted to catch a chick to eat. Chooky always tried to keep her babies with her.
But it was very hard to watch them all the time.
One little chick saw a worm by the long grass and ran to get it . Chooky didn’t see the little chick run over to the worm.
But the farm cat , who was sitting on the fence ,saw the little chick.
The cat was just going to jump down and get the little chick, when the rat ran out from under the hen house.
The rat had seen the little chick, too.
The cat jumped down from the fence. But he didn’t try to get the chick.
He wanted to get the rat. The rat was bigger , and it would be much better to eat.
The cat raced after the rat.
Chooky truned around , She saw the cat running after the rat.
“Chook! Chook!” she called to her naughty little yellow chick. “Chook! Chook! Chook!”
The little chick got the worm and ran back to Chooky.
Chooky opened her wings , and all the little yellow chicks ran to her.
She sat down with the little chicks under her wings.
Now they would be safe from the cats and rats on the farm.
9.L ook out!
Kylie and Zoe came out of their classroom. They looked at all the
children who were playing outside.
“I want to go and play by the trees ,” said Zoe.
“But we can’t.” “No ,” said Kylie.
“When we go past the wall , some big girls jump out at us.”
“And I always get scared ,” said Zoe.
“Let’s just stay here and play .”
“I can’t see the girls today ,” said Kylie.
“We could try and get past the wall.”
“But they will be hiding behind it and waiting for us ,”said Zoe. “When we get there, they will jump out at us .”
“No they won’t ,” said Kylie.
“They are not always there.”
Zoe and Kylie walked slowly over to the wall. Then they saw one of the girls looking around it . Kylie and Zoe stopped. The big girls were hiding behind the wall.
“Let’s go back to our room ,” said Zoe.
Just then , Miss Bell came walking past.
As she got to the end of the wall ,the big girls jumped out.
They got a surprise when they saw a teacher!
Miss Bell got a surpwise , too .
She was very cross with the big girls.
“Come here , all of you !” she said.
“That was a very silly thing to do. You could have hurt someone !”
The girls looked at Miss Bell. “Sorry!” they said.
But Miss Bell was still cross.
“Now stay away from here!” she said.
“I don’t want to tell you again! You must never jump out like that!”
Kylie and Zoe started to laugh.
“The big girls looked so funny when they saw Miss Bell ,”said Kylie.“Yes ,” said Zoe.
“And now they will never jump out at us again.”
10.The little work plane
Jed was a pilot at a big airport. He flew the work planes.
They were kept in the big sheds by the runway.
One day , Jed got a call from a man at the airport.
“Please come now in your little plane. We need you to help us.”
Jed started up the engine.
The little pland went slowly down the runway and stopped by the big planes.
The big planes looked down at the little work plane and laughed. “You will have to get out of our way ,” they said.
“We are going to take off soon .”
A man came running over to the little plane. He gave Jed two big bags.
“Take these bags up to the farm on the big hill ,” said the man.“There is so much snow up there that the farmer can’t get out. He needs this food for his family .”
Jed pulled the bags of food into the little plane,and it moved slowly down the runway.
The little plane went faster and faster .
Then away it went up into the sky.
It went out over all the houses and the farms.
Soon it came to the big hills. There was snow all over them.
“I hope I can find the farm,” said Jed.
The little plane flew around the hills again and again.
Jed looked for the farmhouse. Then he saw it.
The farmer was outside. He was waving to the little plane.
“That looks like the place,” shouted Jed.
Jed pushed the bags of food out . They fell down into the snow by the farmer.
“Good work!” shouted the farmer.
And the little plane flew back to the airport.
The little plane went slowly past the big planes.
“I did a very good job today,” said the little plane.
“I helped someone who needed me.”
11.The Goats in the Turnip Field
Once upon a time, a boy was taking his goats home along a road. When the goats saw a field of turnips , they jumped over the gate. The boy tried to chase them out of the field.
But they would not go . So the boy sat down and cried.
Rabbit came along.
“Why are you crying ?” he asked.
The boy said , “I’m crying because I can’t chase the goats out of the turnip field .”
“I’ll chase them out ,” said Rabbit.
But the goats would not go.
So Rabbit sat down and cried ,too.
Fox came along.
“Why are you crying ?” he asked Rabbit.
Rabbit said , “I’m crying because the boy is crying . He is crying because he can’t chase the goats out of the turnip field.”
“I’ll chase them out ,” said Fox.
But the goats would not go.
So Fox sat down and cried, too.
Wolf came along.
“Why are you crying ?” he asked Fox.
Fox said , “I’m crying because Rabbit is crying .”
“Rabbit is crying because the boy is crying. He is crying because he ca n’t chase the goats out of the turnip field ,”said Fox.
“I’ll chase them out ,” said Wolf.
But the goats would not go.
So Wolf sat down and cried, too.
A little bee came along.
“Why are you crying ?” she asked Wolf.
Wolf said , “I’m crying because Fox i s crying .Fox is crying because Rabbit is crying.”
Rabbit is crying because the boy is crying.And he is crying because he can’t chase the goats out of the turnip field ,”said Fox.
“I can do that,” said the litle bee.
Wolf and Fox and Rabbit and the boy laughed at the bee.
“You can’t chase the goats out of the turnip field ,”they said.
“You are too little.”
“Watch me ,”said the bee.
And the bee flew to the goats and buzzed in their ears.
The goats all ran out of the turnip field!
And they boy took them home at last.
12.Saving Hoppo
Hoppo was Ben’s little brown rabbit. She lived outside in a cage,on the grass.
Every morning,Ben put new straw in Hoppo’s house.
He pulled some carrots out of the garden for Hoppo’s breakfast.
Ben liked to watch Hoppo nillbe the carrots .
After school,Ben played with Hoppo.
He talked to her and patted her.
Then he put her back into the cage for the night.
One night it started to rain. It rained all night long.
It was still raining in the morning when Dad went to work.
Ben woke up and looked outside.
There was water all over the grass.
“Mum!” shouted Ben.
“There’s a flood outside. The water could go into Hoppo’s house! She will get all wet and cold.”
“Oh, dear !”said Mum.
“We will have to move the cage out of the water.”
“Hurry!” cried Ben.
“We have to save Hoppo!”
Ben and Mum got dressed in a hurry. They went outside.
“We are coming, Hoppo!” called Ben.
Ben ran to Hoppo’s cage.
The water was just coming in the door of her house.
Ben tried to move the cage,but it was too heavy.
“Wait ,Ben !” called Mum. “I’ll pull the cage.”
“I’ll take Hoppo out first ,” said Ben.
“Then she won’t be scared when you move the cage.”
Ben picked Hoppo up and held her in his arms. He patted her.
Mum pulled the cage out of the water.
She pulled it across the grass and up to the big tree.
Ben put Hoppo back in her cage.
“Now you will be safe ,”he said.
Ben looked at Hoppo’s wet house.
“I’ll get you some dry straw ,”he said to her.
“And I’ll get her some breakfast ,”said Mum.
“This is a better place for Hoppo’s cage ,”said Ben.
“Now Hoppo won’t get wet every time it rains.”
13.The Ant and the Dove
Once upon a time, There was an ant, who went down to a pond to get a drink of water.
But he was in too much of a hurry.
As he ran down to the pond , his tiny feet slipped in the mud, and he fell into the water.
The ant could not swim.
He went round and round in the cold water.
There was no one to help him.
A dove was sitting up in a tree by the pond.
She looked down from her branch, and saw the little ant in the water. The dove wanted to help the ant.
She took a leaf in her beak, and let it fall into the water.
The leaf came down beside the ant and he climbed onto it.
The dove had saved him!
Then the leaf moved slowly across the pond.
It stopped by some long grass.
But as the ant rested on the grass, he saw a man’s foot right beside him.
He looked up, and saw that the man had a net in his hand.
The man was going to catch the dove!
Now it was the ant’s turn to save the dove.
He ran onto the man’s foot, and bit him as hard as he could.
The man shouted out, and the dove turned around.
She saw the man with the net!
Thanks to the little ant, the dove had time to fly away.
And that is the story of how the dove helped the ant and the ant helped the dove.。
