Instead, Tunney 28that he would become a scientific boxer and win the title as a boxer, not a slugger. 29historians will tell you that he developed into one of the 30boxers who ever fought. They also will tell you that as a boxer, he would not have had the 31to beat Jack Dempsey, who was considered by many to be the hardest 32in heavyweight history. Tunney would never have been the champion 33he had not had the problem of his broken hands.

She may have lacked a home, but now this teen has top honors. A 17-year-old student who spent much of high school living in homeless shelters — and sometimes sleeping in her car — recently graduated as the most excellent student of her class at Charles Drew High School in Atlanta.
Chelsea Fearce, who held a 4.466 GPA and scored 1900 on her SATs despite having to use her cell phone to study after the shelter lights were turned off at night, “I know I have been made stronger. I was homeless. My family slept on mats (垫子) on the floor and we were lucky if we got more than one full meal a day. Imagine this situation. You pass a group of people. The people are talking to each other. You cannot hear what they are saying. But suddenly they start laughing. What would you think? Would you think they were laughing at something humorous that one of them said? Or — be honest with yourself — would you think they were laughing at you? Yes, you.
Being laughed at is a common fear. But a major study published recently found that this fear is not the same around the world. It differs from culture to culture.
People in Finland were the least likely to believe that people laughing in their presence were making fun of them. Less than ten percent of Finns in the study said they would think that, compared to eighty percent of people in Thailand.
Some people in the study said they didn’t feel confident when other people laughed in social situations but hid their feelings of insecurity (不安全). Others said they avoided social situations where they had been laughed at before. The study found that people in Turkmenistan and Cambodia were more likely to be in the first group. But people in Iraq, Egypt and Jordan were more likely to try to avoid such situations if they felt they had been laughed at before.
Shy people often avoid situations that would force them into close contact with other people. They worry that something they say or do will make other people laugh at them. Some people worry much more and feel upset every day. What’s worse, they may dream bad dreams every night. This fear of laughter can be really sad for those who live with it.
41. What does the underlined word “humorous” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Funny.
B. Serious.

Bob Darden is now a college professor in Texas. But in 1960, he was a small child whose father had just brought home the family’s first long-playing phonograph (留声机). Two of the records were known as pop songs and country music but those did not interest the boy. The other one was different. It was Mahalia Jackson’s Christmas album (专辑). He played it over and over.
Bob Darden’s interest in that kind of music never went away. When he grew up, he became black gospel music (福音音乐) editor for Billboard Magazine. As years passed, he found it harder and harder to find the music he loved. In 2005, Bob Darden wrote a letter to the New York Times newspaper. He expressed concern that black gospel music was disappearing. A man named Charles Royce read the letter and called that day. Charles Royce’s gift was used to help create the Black Gospel Music Restoration Project at Baylor, where Bob Darden taught. Two years later, with the help of Charles Royce, the music collection has grown.
In 2011, former President George W. Bush learned about the collection. And then he invited some people from the t eam to come up to show him the project and what they’ve accomplished. He said that was a wonderful project and that he was very impressed.
Experts say African-American gospel music was the basis (基础) of most American music in the 20th century. Every rock-and-roll African American artist, every rap, every soul artist came out of the church, and sang these songs.
Now, parts of this collection are on the way to Washington. It is an important gift to both the United
States and the world. It has made black gospel music available for more people. In the future, more and more people will have access to this kind of music.
46. What kind of music did Bob Darden like when he was young?
A. Pop music.
B. Country music.
C. Classical music.
D. Black gospel music.
47. When did the collection of black gospel music progress much?

B. In 2007.

D. The project will make more people hear black gospel music.
49. What can we learn from the passage?

D. Bob Darden has made a great contribution to the development of black gospel music.
50. What’s the best title of the passage?

D
I’m not sure why my parents were surprised when I told them that I was applying to go into family medicine. It seemed like a logical transition (转换) after spending six years working on public health and primary c are, but in my parents’ opinion, I couldn’t have made a more ridiculous (荒谬的) career choice. I was shocked by the line of questioning, but they’re my parents, so I had to answer the basic question — why family medicine?
For me, the answer is simple: I went into medicine to improve the health condition of my community and our society, and when I think about the most pressing health issues facing our nation, I think they are preventable diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 75 percent of our health-care costs and 7/10 of deaths come from chronic (慢性的) diseases that are largely preventable.
We’ve largely been unsuccessful at getting people to engage in healthy behavior. Luckily, that’s where family medicine doctors are uniquely positioned to succeed. For one, the family doctors have lots of training to serve everyone in a community, and in doing so, they can influence community behavior as a whole.
Second, as I’ve learned, through my own journey of overcoming obesity (肥胖) by losing 40 pounds in
the past year, that so much of one’s ability to lead healthy lifestyles lies on whether one can insist on or not. Again, that’s where the family doctor comes in. A family doctor has the benefit of deep interpersonal relationships developed through continuity of care to more effectively coach a patient to success.
The potential (潜力) for primary care to fix our society’s biggest health-care problem and to have a real effect on overall population health is why I’m choosing to go into this field. When I told my parents this, their response was, “There are already a lot of smart people trying to fix this problem but still unable to find an answer —so what makes you think you can?” They don’t think I’m smart enough for family medicine. The problem that primary care has been charged to solve is so big that my parents don’t think I can do it. Maybe my parents are right, but that won’t stop me from trying. Ignoring the issue doesn’t make it any less urgent (紧迫的).

第三部分写作(共两节, 满分35分)
第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
You’ve known your best friends for many years and shared many wonderful moments together. They have always been there for you and have stayed close to your heart when you are down. Now someone is
making you send them away, and you may never see them again. How do you feel?
This is how many Harbin families are feeling at present as a new policy (政策) has recently been passed preventing large dogs from being kept inside the city. Sadly then, all present owners have to _____________________. Understandably this is heartbreaking.
The animals are being made to leave the city under the banner (旗号) of public safety and cleanliness. It’s understandable that city government wants to create a safe and clean environment for the people of Harbin, but is the decision reasonable? Are big dogs more dangerous and dirtier than smaller dogs? I can underst and the cleanliness problem: there’s nothing worse than walking in the dog waste and having to clean it off your shoes. It makes you sick! But smaller dogs can just give you the same trouble, so the problem will still be there.
Cities in other countries have no policies on what kind of dog one can own. But their streets are still clean and no people are trying to run away from crazy dogs. Dog owners should be taught to look after their animals well and be punished for breaking th e laws. The dog doesn’t break the law by using the sidewalk (人行道) as a toilet; the owner does for not cleaning the waste.
56. What does Paragraph 1 talk about? (no more than 10 words)
57. What are the two reasons for larger dogs being taken out of the city? (no more than 15 words)
①②
58. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3? (no more than 5 words)
59. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 2 with proper words. (no more than 6 words)
