Several weeks ago, our headmaster, Mr. Gaudi, told us that our school had been chosen to compete on Smart Aleck—a game show which my best friend Carla and I 41 love. Carla has a good imagination, and I know a lot of history, so we thought we’d be good 42 for the team.
A few days later, Mr. Gaudi held a meeting with everyone interested in the 43 . He told us that Smart Aleck uses a five-member team. He also said that three more people would be needed as backup(替补). 44 , four times that many students were at the meeting. So Mr. Gaudi said we would have a 45 and the top eight scorers(得分者) would become the team and the backup. Everybody agreed that this was a 46 way to decide.
Yesterday, all of the hopefuls went to the dining hall after school. We would have to decide the starting line-up(阵容). Mr. Gaudi acted as the host. After a few hours, all the 47 on the team were chosen except one. Carla and I tied(打成平手) for that last position. We had to hold a one-on-one competition 48 the two of us. The winner would be on the team and the loser would be the backup.
Midway through our two-person competition, I was starting to pull ahead(领先). 49 I saw the look on Carla's face. I waited for a second and knew what I had to do. As much as I wanted to be on Smart Aleck, Carla wanted 50 even more. So, starting with my next question, I held back and let Carla 51 , just by a little bit. She felt sorry for my not being on the team as she 52 she would be on th e show. And since I will go as backup, I’ll
still have the fun of 53 the show up close.
Was I cheating(欺骗) by not trying as hard as I could? I don’t think so. No one noticed, and Carla and I didn’t 54 it. It won’t hurt the team 55 Carla will be a very good competitor on the real show. I think that making my best friend happy was the right thing to do.

Are you a gourmand(美食主义者)? Do you want to eat every delicious food in the world? Then do you watch the popular program?“A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)” is a documentary on Chinese delicious food which has been broadcasted by Chinese central television. Is there any holiday that isn't celebrated with a special festival food? Here are several traditional Chinese foods:
Eggs hold a special meaning in many cultures, and China is no exception(例外). The Chinese believe eggs mean producing something new. After a baby is born, parents may hold a "red egg and ginger party," where they pass out eggs to announce the birth. In some areas of China the number of eggs represents the sex of the child, for example, an even number(1,3,5,…) for a girl, and an odd number(2,4,6…) if a boy has been born.
Noodles are a symbol of longlife in Chinese culture. They are as much a part of a Chinese birthday celebration as a birthday cake with lit candles is in many countries. Since noodles represent long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut it off.
Although westerners sometimes may be very sorry to see fish lying on a plate, in China a whole fish is a symbol of richness. In fact, at a party it is traditional to serve the whole fish last, pointed toward the valued guest. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish, yu, sounds like the word for richness or plenty, and it is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the year to come.
A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi. This tasty dish is made of rice dumplings with meat, peanut or other delicious food in bamboo leaves. The tradition of Zongzi is meant to remind us of a great man, Qu Yuan.
The 50-minute program tries to bring something new by presenting more cultural elements(元素),such as eating habits and the quality of eating.

Text messaging, or simply "texting", which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.
The advantages(优势) of texting are obvious(明显的). Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second. Texting helps you to "talk" to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to "talk" to someone secretly if you don't want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so
amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.
However, texting has its disadvantages. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can't receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.
What's more, if you don't do texting properly, for example, texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries(伤害) and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, the USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don't notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the USA are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.
66. What’s the passage talking about?
A. Mobile phones
B. Text messaging
C. Computers
D. Festivals
67. How many advantages of texting are mentioned in the passage?
A. Two.
B. Three.
C. Four.
D. Five.
68. What did the researchers at Stony Brook University find?
A. Texters are easier to have an accident.
B. Texting is a good way of communication.
C. 6,000 people were killed and injured.
D. Many people text to greet families and friends.
69. The underlined word “restricting” probably means “_________” in English.
A. not telling
B. not allowing
C. enjoying
D. making
70. This passage is written to tell us that __________.
A. we should do less texting

听第一篇短文,回答第13-15小题。

请根据短文内容,选择正确答案,完成信息记录表。

Have you ever heard your own voice? "Of course," you say.
But that's not quite true. Nobody else has ever heard your voice - the way you hear it. When you talk, you set up sound waves. The air outside your head carries the sound waves to your outer ears. But, of course, the sound of your voice begins inside your head. The bones of your head carry the sound waves straight to your inner ears. You get the sound from the outside and the inside too. Other people get just the sound waves from the outside. That's why they don't hear your voice the way you do.

Once there was a famous film star called Kitty Brown in England. She was in a lot of films. People could easily remember a film if she was in it. However, nobody knew how old she was.
Then in a film magazine, someone guessed that her age was 42 the next week. One of her fans wrote a letter to the magazine and said she was at least 50. Kitty was very angry and wrote a letter to the magazine herself. It said, “I am 39 years old and have been for several years.”。
