“Hang on! What do you mean by doggy bed?”

The little master was already downstairs. After eating breakfast, he ran out. I followed him as usual and made sure he got to school safely.
On my way home, a van stopped beside me. Then I was stuck in a net and thrown into the van. I started struggling and barking. Immediately I was given a needle and calmed down. When I woke up, I was lying on a bed. Looking around, I realized I was in a science lab. Strangely, I found I wasn’t a dog anymore! I was human!
I started yelling for help and an old man walked in. On seeing me, he shouted excitedly, ‘It worked! It worked!’Then I was given another needle. The next thing I remember is that you woke me up. So that’s why I ended up asleep here naked.”

The Cathedral of Augsburg in the Bavarian region of German is credited with the world’s oldest stained glass windows from the 12th century. Originally constructed in the 9th century, this Romanesque style church is a short 40-mile drive north of Munich.
These windows are typically found in churches and were first made for this purpose. Natural light is used to light the stained glass window in order to help tell the story described by the church. The illustrations (图示) on each window appear to be alive with the natural light which is result of God’s symbolic presence. Each design told a story from the Bible or of an important individual in history in pictures, rather than words since most people could not read. Visitors who wanted to learn more about the exciting story being told in the stained glass window could ask the guide of monks for more details.
The Renaissance (文艺复兴)which began in the late 13th century saw the usage of stained glass windows expand from churches to other public buildings. However, many of the medieval (中世纪) era windows were removed during the 18th century as they were viewed to be old and replaced with painted glass. The former half of the 19th century saw the Gothic Revival movement in England where artists made new bathroom stained glass windows in the medieval style for new Gothic buildings. These Gothic works were used to decorate churches by replacing the simple painted glass ornamental windows that had crept into churches.
John LaFarge and Louis Comfort Tiffany took the lead in the American glass movement in the late 19th century, when they made stained glass windows . LaFarge and Tiffany were American painters, who worked independently at first and then competed with each other. Harvard University’s Memorial Hall, Boston’s Trinity Church, and New York City’s Judson Memorial Church are some of Lafarge’s most famous works. In 1879, it was Tiffany who became a leading figure within the American glass movement.
Today, stained glass is used in homes as an accent for windows not only for light, but to match artwork that allows light to shine through. Some will even hang a frame of stained glass on a blank wall for decoration. As history has shown, the usage of these works has developed from just churches to public buildings and then to private homes.
59.The world’s oldest stained glass windows came out________________.

Tongue clicking is an important part of language for some southern African groups. And it could help disabled people control their wheelchairs. The key is a device that is put in the ears and listens for tongue clicks and then translates the sounds into commands for a wheelchair.
Mouth interfaces (接口)that interact with wheelchairs are already common for seriously disabled people. One device that fits within the roof of the mouth houses buttons that can be pressed with the tongue.
“But everything that involves tongue movement requires putting something in the mouth,”says Ravi, from the University of Bristol, UK. Besides issues of hygiene (卫生),these devices make it difficult for the user to eat or speak, if they are able to ,while using it. Monitoring tongue movements through the ear avoids these problems.
The new device, a simple microphone that looks like an earphone for listening to music, picks up certain sounds made by four sorts of tongue clicks. The microphone sends the information to a signal processor which sorts out the clicks and passes the information to the wheelchair, where each click type moves the chair in a distinct direction.
Ravi’s group has used the interface to control a virtual wheelchair. They have also used it to control the reaching and grasping movements of a robotic arm. The four tongue clicks can be mastered in a couple of hours, say the researchers. ”This is a promising technique,” says Jose del R. Millan, who has been working on brain interfaces for controlling wheelchairs at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. If it can be combined with real wheelchairs and shown to work reliably it could be very valuable for patients, he says.
The researchers plan to start using real wheelchairs, but in the meantime they are looking at whether the number of commands can be increased by using a microphone in each ear, to get clearer signals to the wheelchairs. “Even if four clicks prove to be the limit, it only takes 0.2 second to detect each sound, so it’s possible to spread high-level commands through combinations of clicking sounds,”the researchers say.
63.What plays the most important role in controlling the wheelchair by tongue clicking?
A.The tongue. B.The device. C.The wheelchair. D.the brain. 64.What problem will be caused if mouth interfaces are used to monitor the
wheelchair?
A.It is very difficult to operate the device.
B.The device is dirty and leads to disease.
C.The device makes it difficult for people to eat or speak.
D.People are disturbed by the device when listening.
65.What do we know about the new device according to the passage?
A.It is actually an earphone used to listen to music.
B.It hasn’t been put into practice to control wheelchairs.
C.It can pick up all sounds made by tongue clicks.
D.It can give orders where the wheelchair should go .
66.What problem are Ravi and his groups trying to solve now?
A.That the device can’t detect more commands.
B.That it needs a long time to detect each sound.
C.That it can only combine some easy tongue clicks.
D.That it takes a long time for the disabled to learn tongue clicks.

The “aha moment”(顿悟时刻) for Arjun Nagendran came one recent afternoon while he was cleaning up the muddy paw prints, and his pet dog, Rocky, was tracking across the house “again”.
“Why not make shoes for dogs?” the 10-year-old boy thought. For most kids, the moment might have ended right here. But for Arjun and five of his classmates from Littleton School, an accidental idea proved talent when they won first place at the first-ever Student Inventors Day at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. The winning invention, “Green Paws”—an eco-friendly dog shoe made from bark, three leaves and recycled rubber—got the group a $1,000 prize, two television appearances and a shot at being the next “As Seen on TV” hit product.
More than 20 schools, most of them from New Jersey, gathered at the center to show their green inventions. Each team had 10 minutes to introduce their inventions to the judges. In the end, the chief judge Khubani announced that it was the Green Paws product that stood out, particularly because his company had been looking into the very idea of how to keep paws clean.
Pet products are usually popular sellers, he said, noting that his company has marked four new pet inventions this year alone. And while his senior managers had put forward the idea of new paw wipes, they had never thought of pet shoes, he said.
“We thought about cleaning pets’paws, but we never thought about keeping them clean in the first place.” Khubani said after the event. “They actually have an idea that is marketable.”The company will begin conducting market research on Green Paws this week, he said. But Arjun and his team will have to put off another day before they receive congratulations from their classmates.
67.What is the direct reason for Arjun’s inventing “Green Paws”?
A. That his school inspired students to join in the invention competition
B. That Khubani’s company invited him and his classmates to invent it
C. That his pet dog made the floor dirty with dirty paws
D. That his parents encouraged him to be a great inventor
68.The underlined sentence in Paragraph2 may mean ____________.
A. not all children are talented because of IQ
B. most children think twice before taking action
C. most children end their fresh ideas with actions
D. most children don’t translate their ideas into action
69.What does the forth paragraph aim to tell us?
A. To prove Arjun’s idea is marketable.
B. To praise Arjun’s talent in
invention.
C. To complain his employees are not creative.
D. To explain what is the
“aha” moment.
70.Why will Khubani’s company carry out market research on “Green Paws”?
A. They plan to give Arjun and his classmates more prizes
B. They hope to produce more “Paws” to make profits
C. They hope to ensure the fairness of the competition

Possible version:
There is no doubt that everybody makes promises all his life. But just as the proverb goes, “promise is debt”. Once you have made a promise, you must keep it; otherwise, you won’t be worthy of good faith. What’s worse, you will lose your friends and even fame.
Take myself for example. One day when playing with my good friend Xiao Ming, I saw a beautiful bird flying in the sky. Liking it so much, I asked Xiao Ming to draw it for me and I would give him my doll in return. But after he finished the drawing, I broke my word and refused to give him the doll because I liked it so much too. Since then, I have lost my good friend.
Therefore, I think what is said can never be what is unsaid. It is necessary and important to for you to think it twice before making a promise. Once you have made it, no matter what happens to you, you should keep to it. Only in this way can you be reliable, which will help you make a friend indeed and establish a good fame.。
