This website is a public service made possible by the newspapers of Illinois at no additional cost to taxpayers. Public Notice (PNI) was first launched in August 2008 as a central repository (存储库) for all public notices in Illinois. It was redesigned and relaunched in 2011 with updated functionality and search capabilities. According to a

Email notification option for those who routinely search public notices, need to save search criteria, print multiple notices at the same time, or receive automatic search results daily.
PLEASE NOTE
Every state in our nation, including Illinois, has laws that regulate the manner in which public notices are published. These laws are designed to ensure that people within a community receive
important information about the actions of their government. Local newspapers remain the preferred venue to distribute public notices. When she was a child, Passant was curious about Chinese. Interestingly, her father paid special attention to China's economic development at that time, who believed the relationship between Egypt and China would become increasingly close. Later, with many Chinese companies setting up operations in Egypt, her father realized that lea rning Chinese was very beneficial for one’ s future development. So, at the suggestion of her father, Passant embarked on the journey of learning Chinese.
Although Passant made full preparations for her study, her journey of learning Chinese was not withou t challenges. “Chinese is completely different from my native language. Almost all of us have them in our body, they accumulate throughout our lives and they may be causing serious health conditions. They've been called “forever chemicals”, but what are they, where do they come from, and what can we do about them “Forever chemicals” take their name from the fact that they contain fluorine-carbon bonds (碳氟键), and because they last, if not forever, for a very long time. These chemical bonds are incredibly difficult to break down, which means that pollutants from these chemicals build up over time in our environment. As well as in our bodies, they've been found in the soil and in drinking water. While some have now been banned, these chemicals have been used in a wide range of consumer products. They have a repellent effect (驱避效应) on oil and water and so have been used for stain-proofing furniture and carpets. Forever chemicals have been
used to make non-stick pans and grease-proof (防油脂的) food packaging. You can find them in waterproof clothing. Particular concern has been raised about their use in makeups and other personal care products. These products are often used near mucous membranes (黏膜), like those in our eyes and mouths, which could make it easier for chemicals to be absorbed into our bodies.
The exact level of risk is uncertain, but studies have suggested links between these compounds and conditions such as cancer, reproduction problems, developmental problems in children, and reduced immunity. However, the level of exposure at which people become at risk is not yet clear. It may be unlikely to completely avoid these chemicals, but people can take steps to reduce their exposure. Using air and water filters (过滤器), as well as reducing the amount of dust in our living spaces is one way to do this. Another way is to carefully check the ingredients of makeups as well as the materials in carpets and furniture before buying them.
28. Why does the author mention three questions in the first paragraph
A. To introduce the topic.
B. To make comparisons.
C. To provide examples.
D. To put forward a definition.
29. What does the underlined word “conditions” in Paragraph 4
mean
A. Panics.
B. Deaths.
C. Situations.
D. Diseases.
30. What might be the character of “forever chemicals”
A. They can absorb oil and water.
B. They are hard to break down.
C. They are beneficial to our bodies.
D. They are particularly used in care products.
31. What can we conclude from the last paragraph
A. We' re likely to take measures to put an end to forever chemicals.
B. There are uncertain links between conditions and forever chemicals.
C. It is unnecessary to check materials before we buy furniture.
D. The less we are exposed to forever chemicals, the better.

The shapes and textures (纹理) of quartz grains speak to the processes that changed and transported them. Stanford researchers have developed an AI-based tool – SandAI - that can reveal the history of quartz (石英) sand grains going back hundreds of millions of years. With SandAI, researchers can tell with high accuracy if wind, rivers, waves, or glacial (冰川的) movements shaped and deposited grains of sand.
The tool gives researchers a unique window into the past for geological and archeological studies, especially for eras and
environments where few other clues, such as fossils, are preserved through t ime. SandAI’s approach, called microtextural analysis, can also help with modern-day forensic (法学的) investigations into illegal sand mining and related issues.“Working on sedimentary deposits (沉积物) that haven't been disturbed feels about as close as you can get to being in a time machine - you' re seeing exactly what was on the surface of Earth, even hundreds of millions of years ago. Sand AI adds another layer of detail to the information we can pull from them,” said Michael Hasson, an assistant professor of Earth and planetary sciences Stanford University. Historically, microtextural analysis has been done by hand and eye, using magnifying glasses and microscopes to attempt to draw inferences about sand grains’ histories. Modern science has confirmed the approach, showing that transport principles do indeed convey telltale characteristes - for example, grains that traveled farther often appear more rounded because they’ve had their sharp corners dulled; waves and wind also leave distinctive abrasion (磨损) patterns.
However, traditional microtextural analysis is highly subjective, time-consuming, and scattershot across different studies. Thanks to the new tool, which employs the power of machine learning to deeply examine microscopic images of sand grains, microtextural
analysis can now be far more quantitative, objective, and potentially useful across a wide range of applications. It also analyzes individual sand grains instead of lumping multiple grains into a single category, offering a more complete evaluation. “Instead of a human going through and deciding what one texture is, we are using machine learning to make microtextural analysis more objective and rigorous(严密的),” said Lap tre, another researcher from Stanford.
32. What is the function of SandAI
A. To help with sand mining and related issues.
B. To change and transport quartz grains.
C. To analyze quartz grains accurately.
D. To examine environment.
33. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Researchers.
B. Investigations.
C. Sedimentary deposits.
D. Geological and archeological studies.
34. What do we know about modern microtextural analysis
A. It has been done using magnifying glasses and microscopes.
B. It doesn't depend on microscopic images of sand grains.
C. It can be far more quantitative, objective and useful.
D. It has been used worldwide.
35. What does the text mainly talk about
A. The application of SandAI.
B. Geological studies.
C. The research on quartz grains.
D. Earth science.

If you are not sure how to turn to references for help before applying for a job, here are some tips for you.
Examine your references carefully
You may have several references to choose from. But not all references will be appropriate for what you' re applying for. 36 . Recruiters (招聘人员) usually ask for three references, so don't add more than that.
37
When you get to the interview stage, the recruiters will likely contact the references in your resume. Without being asked in advance, your references will feel confused about the call from the recruiters. If you are lucky enough, the reference happens to know you well and responds positively. But this may hurt your relationship with that unsuspecting person.
Reach out early enough
Generally speaking, remembering someone who contacts you out of the blue is extremely difficult, so making connection with your references early is essential. 38 , you can describe your previous
work experience with them in your email or phone call. You can even reconnect the relationship with a fun anecdote.
Check contact information for each reference
Double-check your references’ information. A simple mistake in an email address or phone number can make the entire process go wrong. If the recruiters cannot contact your references, 39 . Follow up to thank your references
If a potential employer contacts your references, make sure to follow up with them. 40 . Thank them for the time they spare to speak to your potential employer. Give them a phone call to show your attitude, if you' re close to them.
A. If they have forgotten you
B. Contact the references in your resume
C. You should choose the most relevant ones
D. Ask people before adding them as a reference

During my annual check-up with my optometrist(验光师)a few years ago, I noticed a shoe-collection box placed next to the used-eye glasses collection box in the waiting area. I asked the receptionist why they were collecting shoes. The receptionist told me one of their optometrists participated in an annual eye-care mission in Africa. For a few weeks every year, they serviced people who didn't have access to eye care or glasses. During the previous trip, he observed many of the children lining up for eye care had bare feet. He intended to take the donated shoes and offer them
to his patients on his next eye-care mission.
The woman sitting next to me snorted (哼) and made bad comments about the poor. I was shocked and disturbed and clarified directly that her remark was not acceptable to me. I told the woman there were many other countries in the world that had similar issues. She challenged me to provide a personal example of how I was aware of this.
I described our first trip to Cuba years ago when our family spent Christmas at what was advertised as a pleasant resort in Holguín, a city in eastern Cuba. The good-natured hotel staff and beautiful beach made up for the lack of personalized services and convenient equipment.
My husband is a tennis lover and decided to take some tennis lessons, while I sat on the sidelines observing his performance. During his first lesson, we both noticed the instructor's tennis shoes were in poor condition. My husband enjoyed his instructor's company and, after each lesson, we would have a chat with the instructor about the social and economic challenges of everyday life there. One day, the instructor commented on how much he admired my· husba nd’ s tennis shoes. He talked about how expensive it was to obtain good tennis gear (装备) in Cuba. During their conversation, my husband learned they had the same shoe
size.
