除夕由来传说英语作文
The Legend of Chinese New Year's Eve。

Chinese New Year's Eve, also known as the Spring Festival Eve, is the most important day of the Chinese New Year. It is celebrated on the last day of the lunar calendar, which usually falls in late January or early February. The day is filled with traditions and customs
that have been passed down for generations, but where did these traditions come from? Let's explore the legend of Chinese New Year's Eve.
According to legend, there was a monster named Nian who lived in the mountains and came down to the villages every New Year's Eve to eat people and livestock. The villagers were terrified and would hide in their homes, but one day an old man came to the village and told the people that he could help them defeat the monster.
The old man said that Nian was afraid of three things:
the color red, loud noises, and fire. He told the villagers to hang red lanterns and banners outside their homes, set off firecrackers, and light bonfires. The villagers followed the old man's instructions and on New Year's Eve, Nian was scared away by the loud noises and bright lights.
The villagers were overjoyed and asked the old man to stay in the village and teach them more ways to protect themselves from Nian. The old man agreed and became the
first "God of Wealth" in Chinese mythology.
From then on, the tradition of hanging red lanterns and banners, setting off firecrackers, and lighting bonfires on New Year's Eve became a way to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck for the coming year. The color red is still considered lucky in Chinese culture, and firecrackers are set off to scare away evil spirits.
Another tradition that is still practiced today is the reunion dinner. Families gather together on New Year's Eve to enjoy a feast and spend time together. This tradition dates back to ancient times when families would offer
sacrifices to their ancestors and gods on this day.
In modern times, the reunion dinner is a time for families to catch up and share stories from the past year. It is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.
In conclusion, the legend of Chinese New Year's Eve is a story of triumph over evil and the importance of
tradition and family. The customs and traditions that have been passed down for generations continue to be an important part of Chinese culture and are celebrated by millions of people around the world.。
