Louis Braille was born in the nineteenth century. When he was three years old, an accident at his father’s workshop left him blind. As a young boy, Louis was hard-working and clever. His teachers suggested that he should go to the National Institute for Blind Youths. ①At that time, this was the only school for the blind in France. At the institute, Louis was eager to learn to read and write. To his great disappointment, the few books he found at the institute used raised (凸起的) letters. This method of reading was difficult for the blind, because they had to feel slowly each letter. ②到他们摸到句子末尾时,他们已经忘记开头是关于什么了。

Louis wanted to develop an easier reading system for the blind. His idea of such a system came from Charles Barbier, a French army officer. Barbier had invented a system called “Night Writing”, which was made up of dots and dashes. Soldiers used this system to communicate with one another during the night. Louis adapted (改编) this system for his own use. He produced a simpler system based on dots. For example, “A” is represented by a single dot. Many blind students found this system much easier to use. This came to be known as the “Braille” system. Today, millions of blind people are able to read, thanks to the work of a young blind man.任务一:将文中划线的句子①翻译成汉语。

A rich and kind baker(面包师) sent some bread to twenty of the poorest children. He said to them, “In this basket, there is some bread for you. Each of you can have one loaf(一条面包) every day until the hard days end.”The impatient children couldn't wait to gather around the basket. They shouted and fought for the bread because each wished to have the largest loaf. At last they went away without even thanking the good gentleman. But recently, a group of researchers found something unusual in amber—a feathered tail! The tail includes bones, soft tissue and even feathers. It is 37 mm long, which is about the length of a matchstick. It looks like a plant at first sight. But researchers later identified(确定) it as part of the tail of a dinosaur that couldn't fly almost 100 million years ago.Xing Lida of Beijing's China University of Geosciences discovered the amber in a market in M yanmar in 20xx.“It is an amazing fossil(化石) and the finest details of feathers can be seen in 3D,” he said. The researchers note in their paper that this finding is particularly special because, although dinosaur feathers have been found in amber before, we don't know which dinosaurs they came from. If so, then you could be a super recognizer.Usually it is easy for someone to recognize the faces of their family members and friends. But it could be difficult for them to remember faces that they have only seen once. However, studies have found that super recognizers have amazing face recognition skills. They can remember at least 80 per cent of faces they have ever seen. According to the Daily Mail, at least one in 50 people are super recognizers.A study was carried out in Bournemouth University of UK recently. Researchers tried to find whether super recognizers have a different way to remember faces. They found that when these people look at faces, they spend more time looking at the person's nose. They also found that these people are not smarter than others. Their super ability is restricted (有限的) only to face recognition.Another important finding is that there are two subtypes (子类型) of super recognition. Some never forget faces. But for some, if you show pairs of faces to them at the same time, they can quickly decide whether the faces are of the same person or two different people. In fact, many super recognizers say they are very good at recognizing faces in a crowd. These subtypes of super recognition could be applied to many areas of life. AI is a group of technologies that help machines get, understand and use information to do tasks.AI's recent developments have got a lot of social attention. Some people have welcomed AI because it makes things possible. For example, AI will have a big influence on areas like medicine and engineering. But this attention has also produced a lot of fear. Especially, many workers are worrying that AI could make them lose their jobs.According to a recent study, nearly five percent of jobs will disappear because of AI. In some industries,AI is already doing the work that people used to do, such as assembling(装配)cars, digging the coal and lifting goods. Self- driving cars and trucks controlled by AI will also take away the driver's jobs in the future. On the other hand, AI will also create many new jobs for people. More people will be needed to write programmes for AI systems(系统)and they will set up and work on them, too. Meanwhile, jobs that require feelings, excellent communication skills with people will not be replaced(取代)by AI. These includes jobs in fields like teaching, nursing and personal training.AI is here. It is changing how people live and work in many ways. That makes AI important to watch, not to fear.1、2题完成句子;3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下第二段的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。

A special area of the eye drips (滴) all the time.It keeps the eye humid. If you look in a mirror, you can see tiny holes in the corners of your eyes. Each hole leads to a small tube that runs to your nose. Tears run slowly into this tube drip by drip. Day and night the holes drain (流走)the tears away. If they didn't,you would always look as if' you were crying. If you begin to cry, there are many more tears. The holes can't drain all of them. But is it true?Of the studies about Murphy's Law,the most famous one is the buttered toast (烤面包片)phenomenon (现象) :One toast with butter falls,it lands butter- side down most of the time.To prove this, Robert Matthews did a lot of experiments with more than 1,000 British school kids in 2001.In the first experiment, each student put a piece of buttered toast on a plate, let it fall off 20 times and noted which side it landed on. Of almost 10,000 experiments, toast landed butter-side down 62 percent of the time. But you may ask: Is it the butter that plays a role? Here comes Matthews' second experiment. This time, instead of butter, the toast had a letter "B"written on one side. It still landed 58 percent of the time on the B-side.This proved that Murphy's Law is true: If the toast can land butter-side down,it will do so.Matthews did another experiment. When students threw the toast from a height of 2. 5 metres, the toast landed butter-side down only 47 percent of the time."Toast lands butter-side down because humans aren't tall enough to let it land any other way," Matthews said.( )1. Jane Eyre was not the first book that Charlotte had sent to a publisher. Over a year ago she had written another book, The Professor, and sent it to one publisher after another. Each publisher had sent it back, in a packet addressed to Currer Bell. And then Charlotte had sent it, in the same old packet, to another publisher, and then another, and got it back again.“Why didn't you change the paper on the packet, my dear?” I asked.Charlotte smiled. “I didn't think of it, papa. The worst day was when we were in Manchester, going to the eye doctor. Do you remember? The packet came back then. That was the day before I started writing Jane Eyre.”“Do you mean that you started writing Jane Eyre while I was lying in the dark room in Manchester?”“That's right, papa.”“But that's only six months ago, and here is the book in my hand!”“Yes, papa. The book was printed a month later after I sent it to the publisher.”“My dear! They decided very quickly that they liked it, then!”“I think they did, papa. After all, it is a good book, isn't it?”She smiled at me. I don't think I have ever seen her so happy. She is a very small person, Charlotte, and not a beautiful woman; but when she smiles like that, her face shines like a fine painting. My wife used to look like that sometimes when I first met her.I took her hand in mine. “It is a very good book, my dear. I cannot tell you how proud I am.”She touched my hand. “Thank you, papa. But you must not be proud of me alone.
