Like many people, I’ve spent much of my life trying various diets and methods of losing weight, some quick and painless, others slow and tiring. most of them including the so-called “cheat day”.The principle of the cheat day is simple: After going on a diet throughout a week or a month, you can eat anything you like on that day. The day makes all my eating and drinkingnot only satisfactory but acceptable. After all, I deserve it.However, the problem for me was that cheat days were never quite that. Either they became happy cheat weeks, cheat months and sometimes cheat years, or they filled me with anxiety of going off-track so that I couldn't truly enjoy them. Using food as a reward only perpetuated my unhealthy relationship with food, and it troubled me in my approach to health. After struggling for a couple of months, I came to realize the true colors of the cheat day. It goes to extremes —none or all. Also, cheat days imply that foods can be divided into “good” and “bad”. That's why I fe lt guilty when I had a piece of cake for breakfast instead of fat-free milk. But food, in fact, has no moral (道德的)value. It is simply intended to fill your body and provide nutrition. Hopefully it tastes good, too. This simple thought has inspired me to quit cheat days. I don't feel worried or ashamed any more and start to reconsider my relationship with food. I just pay more attention to the signs of my stomach, and eat what I desire while being mindful of the health results. Doing away with cheat days lightens my mind and improves my relationship with food.(1)What do people do on a "cheat day”?A Tell lies.B Eat what they like.C Go on a diet.D Try gaining weight.(2)What does the underlined word “perpetuated” in paragrap h 3 mean?A Ruined.B Continued.C Repaired.D Improved.(3)What does the author mainly want to tell us?A A healthy relationship with food matters.B One needn't feel guilty about eating little.C “Cheat day” is effective in nutrition control.D Losing weight does harm physically and mentally.3. We know that carbon dioxide is a major driver of climate change, so the more that can be taken out of the atmosphere by plants, the better. With the warmer climate leading to a longer growing season, some scientists have suggested that more carbon dioxide would be absorbed by trees. But a new study has turned this theory on its head. The researchers, led by Deborah Zani at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, studied certain tree species and recorded how much carbon each tree absorbed per season. With data from other projects, the researchers found as the rate of photosynthesis (光合作用)increased with warmer climate, leaves changed color and fell earlier in the year.Climate-controlled experiments show what could be behind this unexpected result. In the trials, the trees were exposed to full sun, half shade or full shade. The results show there's a limit to the amount of photosynthesis that a tree can carry out over a growing season and that certain trees can only absorb a set amount of carbon each year. Think of it like filling a bucket with water. It can be done slowly or quickly, but once the bucket is full, there's nowhere for any more water to go.Once that limit is reached, leaves begin to change color. The limit is set by the availability of nutrients, particularly nitrogen, which is a key nutrient that plants need to grow. The amount of available nitrogen often limits total growth. That's why farmers and gardeners use nitrogen fertilizer. These new findings have significant implications (启示) for climate change modelling. Ifwe accept that warmer weather and longer growing seasons won't allow trees to take up more carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide levels will rise more quickly than previously expected. The only way to change this will be to increase the capacity(容纳能力) of trees to absorb carbon.(1)What does the new study suggest?A More carbon dioxide would be absorbed by trees.B Global warming shortens the growing season of plants.C The amount of carbon dioxide decides the photosynthesis.D Warmer climate may cause leaves to change color earlier.(2)How did the researchers carry out the study?A By analyzing collected data.B By measuring temperature.C By observing changes of shade.D By modeling climate change.(3)The example in paragraph 3 helps readers understand________.A the ways to fill in a bucketB the process of controlling climateC the limitation of carbon absorptionD the importance of sunlight exposure(4)Why do the farmers and gardeners use nitrogen fertilizers?A To stop total growth of plants.B To change the shape of plants.C To slow the rate of photosynthesis.D To overcome plant growth limitation.二、七选五4. While it's safer to leave the show to the professionals and attend a public display, many people also love to shoot off their own.(1)Fireworks can cause serious burns and injuries, even death. It's extremely important that you do everything you can to deal with fireworks safely.(2)The first step to keep yourself safe is to obey all local fireworks laws. 1. A Chinese MasterZhang Daqian, born in 1899 in Sichuan Province, was one of China's most brilliant and popular artists. Not only was he extremely productive﹣it is said that he created an averageof 500 paintings a year﹣but he was also able to master a variety of painting styles, ranging from detailed portraits(人像) to expressive landscapes.Born into an artistic family, Zhang Daqian was first taught how to paint by his mother and siblings. He also travelled in a widespread way, improving his craft: from learning colouring techniques in Japan to studying Buddhist mural(墙壁的) paintings in Dunhuang. However, traditional Chinese painting remained one of the great passions of his life, and he always considered himself part of that tradition.A Spanish PioneerPablo Picasso was one of the most influential European artists of the first half of the 20th century. He pioneered Cubism(立体主义) and also influenced Symbolism and Surrealism. He was a painter and a sculptor who moved between many diverse styles.Picasso was born in 1881, into a creative family in the Spanish city of Malaga. It is said that the two artists admired each other. At that meeting, they gave each other some artworks. Picasso gave Zhang 600 works in total, all of which were his imitations of Chinese paintings. He asked Zhang to teach him how to draw bamboo. Following this meeting, the two artists became friends and exchanged letters after Zhang's return to China. The two artists had more in common than mutual admiration. People across Western Europe are experiencing a heat wave this week, with the worst still to come on Thursday. Officials sounded high﹣temperature health warnings on Wednesday, mindful that some heat waves before had caused thousands of deaths across an area where people are not used to such weather and few homes have air conditioning.Rene Pierron, 51, a street cleaner at Paris City Hall, was not lucky, and said it was difficult to work outdoors under such conditions. "The buildings and roads here take the heat in during the day and act like radiators (散热器)﹣it's unbearable, " he said while taking a break near the Avenue des Champs﹣Elysees.Kate Simmonds, also 51, who works in a restaurant in central London, could commiserate (同情)."It's so hot﹣we can't work like this, " she said on Wednesday. But she said business was good this week, with plenty of people buying cold drinks and ice cream. Nation after nation have given health﹣related warning for people becoming tired and weak in the heat. Belgium gave its highest warning since its weather warning system was put in place 20 years ago, and Germany placed the whole country under a heat warning.Britain's weather service, the Met Office, placed five of England's nine areas, including London, on a "Level Three" heat health watch, one level short of a national emergency.Liz Bentley, the chief executive of Britain's Royal Meteorological Society, warned: "While a country like Britain is not used to heat waves, they could become more common because of the changing climate. If you live in a Mediterranean(地中海) country, the population adapts to these temperatures. But we'll see the number of deaths go up in the next coming days."(1)What did Rene Pierron think of the weather?________A It created some business chances.B It made his work more difficult.C It might cause people to die.D It would end sooner or later..(2)How did Germany deal with the heat wave?________A It provided air conditioning for poor people.B It suggested people stay away from work.C It has carried out many helpful actions.D It warned the whole country of the heat..(3)On which level is a heat national emergency in Britain?________A Two.B Three.C Four.D Five..(4)Which of the following did Liz Bentley agree with?________A Such weather will appear less frequently.B The danger of the weather have been gradually realized.C People from Mediterranean countries adjust to theweather. Fertile Sichuan has long been one of China's major tea﹣ producing regions. Chengdu had been noted for its teahouses by the Tang dynasty﹣as early as the ninth century. For centuries, teahouses were places for entertainment as well as tea, with performances of storytelling, music, and Sichuan opera in particular. That is a fading art these days, but Yuelai Teahouse beside Jinjiang Theater still hosts opera every Saturday afternoon. You will find most of Chengdu's old﹣school teahouses in parks and temple compounds (大院). Heming Teahouse in Renmin Park buzzes with morning retirees, lunchtime office workers, and afternoon visitors. All of them sit under red lanterns by a lotus pond. When the loud confused noise gets too much, move on to Shaocheng Teahouse in the same park.________ are older and quieter. They bring songbirds on outings, hanging their cages in the branches of willow trees, and play mahjong in a pavilion covered with moss. In more recent years, however, increasingly elaborate(精致的) teahouses have opened to appeal to the younger generation. They tend to have a taste for superior teas in a more contemporary style. The most famous one of them is Mi Xun Teahouse in Taikoo Li, which is right in the city's most fashionable retail(零售) district. As in all teahouses, the tea comes in individual packets with a thermos of water. Maofeng green tea from Mount Emei, south of Chengdu, is the traditional favorite. Shake the loose leaves into your palm﹣sized cup. The cup usually comes with a saucer and a lid that both functions to strain surface﹣floating leaves and to keep the tea warm. Don't let the water level in your cup get too low, since any bitterness from the tea leaves is concentrated at the bottom. A wildfire is a fire that burns strongly and out of control in the wild. Wildfires are becoming even more powerful and harmful over time. That is in part because of climate change. Hotter temperatures and drier forests are helping to cause wildfires. The fires start from natural causes, like lightning. Humans can start fires with cigarettes or campfires, accidentally.Sometimes, people can set fires on purpose. This is to help an ecosystem and those that live there. For thousands of years, humans have set fires on purpose. Fire does put living things in danger, but this happens naturally, Over time, ecosystems have adapted to the benefits from regular fires, because fires clear out dead material. Some plant and animal populations actually need fire to survive and reproduce. The fires help encourage healthy ecosystems. Of course, these are controlled burns. Modern fire experts now know how to set controlled burns that are well planned and safe. Why is fire necessary? As dead or decaying(腐朽的) plants begin to build up on the ground, they may prevent organisms in the soil from getting nutrients(养分).They may keep animals on the land from getting to the soil. This coating of dead matter can also choke the growth of smaller or new plants.Fire removes that layer of decay. The soil gets nutrients from the burned material faster than if it had slowly over time. This allows healthy parts of the ecosystem to grow stronger and stronger. Some plants actually need fire to continue their life cycles. Seeds from some pine trees grow in pine cones that are covered in a thick sap(汁液). The seeds release from the pine cones when fire melts the sap. Fires allow more seeds to get to the soil and grow. The healthier plant populations after a fire can help animals, too Animals that live in nine trees benefit from more growing trees. Plant growth provides the food sources of animals.Humans should prevent most uncontrolled damaging wildfires. But trying to prevent all fires might make matters worse. Understanding the benefits of fire is the only way to truly keep our ecosystem safe from its dangers.(1)What is the main idea of the first paragraph?A The causes of wildfires.B The effects of wildfires.C The functions ofwildfires. D The characteristics of wildfires.(2)Why do humans set controlled burns purposely?A To scare dangerous animals away.B To encourage healthy ecosystem.C To offer nutrients to the animals.D To control plant and animal populations.(3)What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?A Humans should prevent all wildfires.B Plant growth cuts down the food sources of animals.C Humans are permitted to set forests on fire anytime by law.D Without fires, it would be difficult for seeds in pine cones to release.(4)Which of the following is the best title of the text?A The Balance of NatureB How to Prevent Forest FiresC How to Protect Our EcosystemD The Ecological Benefits of Fire二、七选五4. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem—inability to read.In t he library, I found my way into the “Children’s Room”. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal com panion I ever had as a child. He was my “secret sharer”, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical(相同的) to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos: the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Withoutopening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.Under the shade of a brush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running togetherMy mother’s call returned me to the real world. I s uddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them.I never told my mother about my “miraculous(奇迹)” experien ce that summer, but she saw a slow but remarkable improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and authored his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. The power of the words has held.4. The happy ending of the story attracted him.7. Which one could be the best title of the passage?A. My Passion for ReadingB. Mum’s Strict OrderC. Reunion with My Beagle.D. The Charm of a Book.CWhen you think of a map, is north on the top or the bottom? Usually, maps are designed with north on top, though when we think about it, there is no logical reason for this bias. After all, there is no up or down in space. So what is wrong with south, east or west being on the top of the map? The answer is:nothing at all. In fact, north-up maps only became the norm in the last few hundred years.Ancient Egyptian maps had south at the top because the Nile River flows downhill from mountains in the south to the Mediterranean Sea in the north. Mecca was to the south of most early Muslim civilizations, and south-up maps were designed so that viewers would look up to see Mecca. Medieval Christian maps had east at the top, as they believed the Garden of Eden was in the east. The only early maps that had north at the top were those of early China because the emperor lived in the north.North seems to have settled at the top of maps during the 16th century, largely thanks to a Flemish mapmaker, Mercator. Mercator was a great admirer of an early Greek mapmaker, who, for reasons now unknown, put north at the top of maps, so Mercator did, too. When Mercator s world map became the standard map to navigate the oceans, north up became standard as well. What is the implication of this north-view of the world? Psychologically, people tend to think of up as good and down as bad. Just think of words and phrases like “upmarket”,“upbeat” and “moving up in the world", and how they contrast with their opposites. Because north is so consistently put at the top of maps, people now think of north as good, too.Several attempts have been made in recent years by introducing south-up maps to the market. These maps not only give us a chance to see the world differently, but also give everyone the chance to see themselves on top.8.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?A.North-up maps were rare in ancient times.B.Deciding up or down in space is ridiculous.C.Mecca maps were based on a legend.D.The south-up map first appeared in ancient Egypt.9.Why is north associated with good?A.An illogical reason.B.The spread of Mercator' s maps.C.People's preference for up.D.An age-old tradition in Greece.10.What is the authors attitude to south-up maps?A.Cautious. B.Supportive. C.Uncaring. D.Disapproving. 11.What's the main purpose of the text?A.To explain a phenomenon.B.To compare various facts.C.To correct a cultural bias.D.To argue for a viewpoint.DHardware in general, and smartphones in particular, have become a huge environmental and health problem in the Global South' s landfill sites(垃圾填埋场).Electronic waste(e-waste) currently takes up 5 percent of all global waste, and it is set to increase rapidly as more of us own more than one smartphone, laptop and power bank. They end up in places like Agbogbloshie on the outskirts of Ghana's capital, Accra. It is the biggest e-waste dump in the world, where 10,000 informal workers walk through tons of abandoned goods as part of an informal recycling process. They risk their health searching for the precious metals that are found in abandoned smartphones. But Agbogbloshie should not exist. The Basel Convention, a 1989 treaty aims toprevent developed nations from unauthorized dumping of e-waste in less developed countries. The E-waste industry, however, circumvents the regulations by exporting e-waste labelled as “secondhand goods” to poor countri es like Ghana, knowing full well that it is heading for a landfill site.A recent report found Agbogbloshie contained some of the most dangerous chemicals. This is not surprising: smartphones contain chemicals like mercury(水银), lead and even arsenic (砷 ) Reportedly, one egg from a free-range chicken in Agbogbloshie contained a certain chemical which can cause cancer and damage the immune system at a level that's about 220 times greater than a limit set by the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA), Most worryingly, these poisonous chemicals are free to pollute the broader soil and water system. This should concern us all, since some of Ghana's top exports are cocoa and nuts. Some governments have started to take responsibility for their consumers' waste. For example, Germany has started a project that includes a sustainable recycling system at Agbogbloshie, along with a health clinic for workers. However, governments cannot solve the problem alone, as there is am almost limitless consumer demand for hardware, especially when governments’ green policies are focused on issues like climate change.Only the manufacturers can fix this. A more economically sustainable and politically possible solution is through encouraging hardware manufacturers to make the repair, reuse and recycling of hardware profitable, or at least cost-neutral.12.What can we infer from paragraph2?A.Electronic products need improving urgently.B.Electronic waste is too complex to get fully recycled.C.Electronic waste requires more landfill sites across Ghana. D.Electronic pollution is a burning question in Agbogbloshie.13.What does the underlined word"circumvents" in paragraph 3 mean? A.TightensB.AbolishesC.AvoidsD.Follows14.What should be the biggest concern according to the text?A.The violation of EFSA’s standardB.The lack of diversity in Ghana s exports.C.The damage to chickens immune systemD.The threat of polluted food around the world15.What does the author think is the best solution to the e-waste problem? A.Manufacturers' developing a sustainable hardware economy.B.Governments' adjusting their green policies about e-waste.C.Reducing customers' demands for electronic products.D.Letting governments take on the main responsibility.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

In a research paper.B. In a short story.C. In an ad page.D. In a student's book.BIt is said that most people have not more than 30 friends at any given time, and 400 over the whole of their lives. However, on social networking sites, most users have about 150 friends. If these numbers are correct, then friendship means different things in different situations. Also, there are no rules about friendship. There are no instructions about how to make friends, how to keep friendships going, and how to finish friendships if we want t o move on. People havevery different opinions about this: some people would die for their friends and they value themmore than family. Others say that friends are temporary, only there to hel p each other until theyare no longer needed. If people with such different views become friends, this can lead toproblems.Because of these different definitions of friendship, it is easy to be unh appy about our friendships. We may want them to be deeper or closer, or we may want to have more friends in our lives.Sometimes we simply do not have the time to develop our friendships, or w e fear we have left ittoo late in life to start. If we move to another country or city, we ha ve to find ways to make new friends again. This dissatisfaction shows us how important friendships are for most of us.We should not thinkthat it could be too late to build friendships. We also need to understan d that the need to bearound other people is one that is shared by many. Therefore, we should n ot be too frightenedabout starting to talk to people who in the future may become our friends : it is likely that theytoo would like to get closer to us. Remember what people say: strangers are friends we have not met yet.24.According to the text, how many friends do the majority of people proba bly have?A. Over 400 friends in their whole livesB. 30 friends or fewer at a certain stageC. 400 internet friends in their whole livesD. 150 internet friends at a certain stage.25.What is the main idea of paragraph 2?A. There is a rule about making friendsB. People with different views can become friendsC. Friendships mean different things to different peopleD. Some people would die for their friends if they need to26.We can learn from the text that most of us_________.A. need to be with othersB. build friendships late in lifeC. are dissatisfied with our friendsD. are frightened to talk to people27.What is the author’s attitude towards talking to a stranger?A. UninterestedB. CautiousC. DoubtfulD. PositiveCDoes stress cause gray hair? Many people believe that tension and stress can cause your hair to lose its color. In fact,it is an old wives tale that being upset all the time can result in premature graying. Here is a closer look at this situation and why some believe that this old wives tale could be true.As one ages, the hairs on the head also age.In fact, just about everything on the human body begins to show signs of wear and tear after a while. The joints wear and become stiff and skin wears and becomes wrinkled.Hairs on the head grow and eventually die. They are replaced, but in the process something else happens. When new hairs are replaced, the color or pigment(色素)is also added to them. However,as one ages, this pigment becomes less and less available. At first, hairs will have a limited amount of pigment and they will appear to be grayish in color. In time, they will lose all of their pigment and will be white. Many things are known to cause graying.and genetics is a very powerful factor. If one of your parents turns gray at an early age, there is a good chance that you will too. Some people begin the graying process in high school, while others may be over the age of forty.Constant worry and tension can have many harmful effects on the human body.It is a known fact that stressful times can cause one to suffer hair loss.It would make sense that if it can cause these problems, perhaps it also may contribute to graying. However, there,is no sound evidence to support this.On the other hand, many medical professionals believe that there may be a link:between graying and a constant state of anxiety or tension.Does stress cause gray hair? There is no scientific evidence to support the theory, but it is best to avoid stressful situations.28.The underline d phrase in the first paragraph most probably means.A.clever remarks B.silly remarksC.exciting remarks D.disappointed remarks29.The second paragraph mainly tells us ..A.every part of body is replaced with ageB.hairs will grow weak but not dieC.skin becomes wrinkled with ageD.every part of body ages with age30.From the passage we can infer that . . A.stress causing gray hair is still in questionB.gray hair has nothing to do with tension.C.stressful situations can be of benefit.D.sound evidence has been found.31.What might play the most important role in the graying process? A.Genetics and the amount of sleeping timeB.The amount of food people eat and living envi ronmentC.The amount of pigment and geneticsD.Genetics and the amount of water people drinkDIf you have a little child, who hates sitting in a car seat, then the FreedomRide is the answer to your problem..Would you want to be stuck in an unchangeable position every time you’re in the car? No. You wouldn’t !When an adult sits in a car for any length of time, we stretch, we change the position, we move our legs again and again. We do this without thinking. But kids in a traditional car seat can’t do this. They are stuck in one position, and they can’t move. We move because the circulation of blood needs to be recovered in our legs as we sit in the same position for any longer. In a traditional car seat, the child can’t move to reduce the pain, so it puts them in anger. The FreedomRide lets them have a little freedom, and still be safe. The 5-Point Harness(背带)gives them addit ional safety over a traditional child car seat.I am the Webmaster for , and when JoeySafe asked us to redo their website,I was attracted by this system. That is because I have two small children, both girls, aged3 and4 and we obviously use car seats. I lived in Southern California, and every couple of months, my wife, the girls and I, go to see grandma who lives in Nevada. It’s a 5-hour drive, so the FreedomRide works well. Our trips are so much better now, especially since there is more room in the car without the car seats. The FreedomRide really did make it easier to go on trips. The only thing you need when you use the JoeySafe instead of your old child car seat is a pillow. Besides, my kids want to take a pillow anyway! As a dad, I feel safe driving with the kids in the FreedomRide.I am a very safety-oriented person.32.From the text we can infer the FreedomRide is a _______.A.car seatB.car for childrenC.safety beltD.game on 33.The FreedomRide is likely to be designed for________.A.a person hating sitting in the car for longB.an adult often driving a traditional carC.a child requiring some freedom in the carD.a driver needing comfortable seats34.The purpose of the last two paragraphs may be to ________.A.support the topic of the child car safetyB.describe the advantage of the FreedomRideC.introduce the detail of the author’s work and web.D.describe what the author does with his child car seat35.The next part following the last paragraph may mention________.A.the way of ordering B.the way of communicatingC.the inventor of this product D.the advantage of the product第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
